Dawn looked on to the mysterious entity. It was definitely going after Ash but for now it had its attention fixed fully on her. She stood her ground filled with adrenaline. She's been preparing for a fight for the longest time and at least now she could tell if she was not wasting her time and having delusions about being the new Umbreon. She took her stance ready to strike. The person snarled but Dawn was not intimidated by it or the glowing green eyes. Still holding a green sword it reminded Dawn a lot of Ash's aura but something felt off about this brand of energy.
"Green constructs. You can touch them as I'm protecting you from the screams from the dead aura."
"What's dead aura?" For the first time during a fight she can draw on advice of her spirit.
"Unlike your friends who use their own living aura it's made from the souls of the dead. Necromancers can collect the souls of others which then can be used as fuel burning them for aura constructs. Those souls don't have solid forms on their own but need to possess someone instead like the ome against you."
The opponent ran to her and began to slash the sword at Umbreon. She leaped over him as she then put both her feet at his upper back and vaulted herself of him as he stumbled forwards and she landed on her feet. Quickly turning round Dawn gave herself a little time.
"You said it's fuel. Does that mean he runs out eventually?"
"If he burns through all the souls in him yes."
The person threw the sword at her as Dawn ducked underneath it. It flew just by her head as it flew off the roof. The person made another one in his right hand.
"But since we don't know how much it has left assume the worst."
"Or the best since he's a perfect test subject!"
Satisfied with her reflexes Dawn really started to get into it. The purple clad being leaped high and was ready to slash down on her with the sword. She let him get closer as she rolled to her left at the last second. The creature did a sideswipe with the sword as she bended backwards letting it pass over her. Doing a reverse handspring she kicked him on his wrists letting the blade slip from his hand.
She wasted not a moment getting on her feet and striking her opponent in the chest. Feeling the hit the creature swung at her as Dawn managed to stop it blocking a left punch with her right arm. She kicked him low with her right leg as her opponent raised his left leg to block it.
Dawn felt the sensation of their bodies hitting each other echo in herself. Fully focused on pressuring her enemy so he didn't had the time to form a new construct to use against her she pressed on. Using rapid strikes against his chest Dawn felt a hit in her gut. Her opponent kneed her in the stomach and it knocked a bit of wind out of her. He then kicked with his right as Dawn caught the move with both her hands. She then leaped up and planted both her feet right in his face as he fell backwards, she landed right on his face as she stepped off it having performed successful counter.
The person on the ground made a long weapon with sharp point at the end and trusted it upwards. Dawn felt the wind coming off the strike as it barely missed her nose her reflexes saving her again. The person used the spear to help himself up and then took a stance to point it at her. Striking towards her agilely she spun and twirled avoiding the sharp point of it.
"OUCH!" It just nudged her on her left arm tearing the fabric of her costume. He speared again as she spun and took a hold off the black weapon with her left hand. She jumped up and did a spinning kick aimed for the chest, the person rolled through her kick as she landed and grabbed a hold of her left leg pulling her down as he let go off the green spear.
Dawn with her back on the ground kicked up with her right leg as she tried to make him release the hold on her but he grabbed her other leg too. He raised both his arms high as Dawn left the ground feeling a slight whiplash. He lowered his arms as he slammed her into the ground Dawn clenching her teeth at the impact.
Her opponent formed a weapon in his hands. This one much wider than any he made before it resembled the wide blade of a guillotine more than a hand weapon. Moving it down right on her neck Dawn quickly grabbed both of his calves and catapulted between his legs as he just barely missed her hair due to her quick reaction. Dawn back on her feet the figure tossed the blade at her legs as she jumped over it the object with a thud slid over the roof.
"That was close!" Her first real near death experience behind her Dawn took a quick breather. Still not scared at the close proximity of it, it felt good to put it behind her. Not much time to think about it she felt the urgency to end it now. Another slip up and her head truly would be separated from the rest of her body.
Her enemy formed a new sword and did a piercing strike now aimed right at her heart. Dawn stepped sideways dodging the pierce and caught his right arm and moved her body in a twirl while holding onto it. Her opponent falling down on his stomach she immediately planted her left knee in the back of his neck. Still holding onto his right arm her adrenaline had reached its maximum level as she can only see him. The right arm she held onto, it turned violently as she felt a snap and a pop through her hands by her hands. Tearing the shoulder bone out of his socket she should've left him unable to use it and in a massive pain.
Still her full weight on his neck her opponent didn't budge. As if the break meant nothing at all and he shook it off. She felt him convulse underneath him. The body shaking wildly she didn't let go of her grip not willing to relent the upper hand. The downed man raised his left hand and tore off the mask he was wearing. Dawn could only see short brown hair as he raised his head to look forward.
"GGAAAAAAHHH!" He made a gagging noise that was followed by something coming out of his mouth as the body in kept convulsing. A purple substance flew out of him as the body below passed out and the cloud began to take shape. It's crescent green eye and large mouth stared at anger to her as she let go off the body and stepped back.
"Umbreon? Mind telling me what that is!?"
"Worse than just dead aura! A Spiritomb! It only has one objective in mind! Kill the people its creator send and create havoc on the world!"
"How do I stop it!?"
The purple cloud began to glow. From the roof they were on the spirit ripped some tiles off the roof and they floated next to him as they begun to spin in place.
"How much you know about ghosts?" Umbreon saw the tiles coming at her. Her host dodged underneath the scraps as she then began to punch and kick to the ones she couldn't as she was bombarded by them.
"Not much! That's what I got you for!" Dawn occupied at not being hit used most of her focus and new reflexes to not get struck.
"Use your shadow powers. You can't hit it physically but you can trap it using your shadow."
"I can do that!?" Dawn only got told that depending on how the lighting fell on her she'd be able to control things.
"Look I lied! Part of the learning process but even when you are in a room full of light or in daylight you can manipulate your own shadow into whatever you want!"
"This figure it by yourself process is stupid!"
Scolding her partner for keeping a crucial part of information that would've come handy a long time ago, Dawn raised her arms high as her shadow formed a black shield in front of her. The larger tiles smashed into guarding her as she placed her hands on it for extra stability. Not feeling any objects she saw from the corner of her red eyes the purple mist fly to her left side.
"Let's see how it works!"
She extended her right arm as that part of the shadow moved to the cloud. The black part left the ground and it grabbed a hold of the shadow Spiritomb was casting as she grabbed it. Dawn felt it tugging on her arm even if she was not directly touching it.
"I did it! Guess I am quicker than my own shadow!"
"And that you have it what are you going to do with it?"
"Good question." Almost embarrassed at her premature victory she didn't have a method to destroy a spirit like that. Dawn didn't even know if it was possible.
The cloud opened up his green mouth and from it fired a black beam of energy. Dawn couldn't dodge it as she clenched her teeth and closed her eyes to brace for the hit as she lifted her arms back up for her shadow to function as a shield again. She felt herself being grabbed by the waist being pulled from her spot. Dawn opened her eyes as the black beam made contact where she was standing and saw the one that grabbed her.
"Leafeon!"
"Sorry it took so long. I don't know of many good places to change here yet."
"No need…It's fine!" Dawn dropped her catchphrase in the middle of it. Now with Zoey here she fancied her chances more of not being beat up too much anymore and contain the evil Spiritomb.
"That's a neat power you got." Zoey saw the shadow move back to its caster. Having seen the shield and hold she had created only a glimpse was enough to give Umbreon the seal of approval.
"Didn't know I had it until just now."
"Focus girls. There's still pollution flying here." Leafeon brought the attention to friends back to the situation. The cloud stared at the two as it pondered its options. Continue to fight or find a new host to destroy them later. Still having enough souls to consume it opted for the former.
"Due to the lack of soil I can't do much up here. These stone tiles are terrible for growing plants." Zoey told Dawn. She rather take it close to the ground on some nice grass and dirt instead of being so high up away from it on the roof.
"So. How do we beat it?"
"Our plants wouldn't do much in this form. Only until it runs out of souls or we seal it. We let one of the aura guardians use their powers and trap it inside a large stone or statue." Leafeon telling the two humans how to stop the evil creation.
"Great." Dawn said seeing the uphill battle. Ash was keeping cover with Kenny and Brock and Riley is nowhere to be found.
"Neither of them are here so what do we do now?"
"We stall." Leafeon said.
From out of nowhere a blue orb came flying at Spiritomb. It passed through the cloud but it did take the shape out of it. The orb passed by the two girls and the one who fired it arrived as well on the roof.
"Or not."
"Lucario!" Dawn said the name of the aura guardian. She was expecting Ash but he was probably busy with other things. Riley looked at the thing that was floating and the two heroines.
"I felt a huge flare and thought it was the other. What is that thing?"
"We need you to seal it! We need a giant rock or statue for it which you then can seal it with aura!" Zoey yelled at him hoping Riley knew the trick Leafeon mentioned.
"Can we use the statue in front of the school!?" Dawn more known with her surroundings suggested the statue in front of the building. It was a monument to the meteors east of town who honored the finder of the meteors, the village which over the centuries turned into a city. The founders image portrayed Dawn didn't want to desecrate the monument but the evil spirit couldn't go and escape to cause more havoc.
"You can. We got to get it close first."
"Leave it to me!" Dawn's shadow stretched out again and held on to the evil spirits. Having a hold on it, it struggled wildly. Dawn moved towards the edge of the roof towing Spiritomb that didn't cooperate.
"Come on you stinking fog! Play along!" Riley gave Dawn a hand as he ran to her, lifted her up and jumped off the roof landing in front of the school near the statue. The school evacuated nearly everyone was outside. The fire department trucks on the road, they were wondering where the fire was since there was no smoke but the school fire alarm went off. Seeing the wolf and new black character there was a mixture of screams, confusion, panic and excitement as the wolf carried the new one closer to the statue as a black trial pulled something out of a nightmare.
Dawn and Riley were getting closer to the statue. The purple entity fired off a dark beam at the pair but with his free hand Riley formed an aura staff to split and deflect the energy around him and Dawn. Getting close to the statue
"Put your hands on the statue!" Umbreon told her host as Dawn did so. The sun lower it casted a longer shadow which she used to get a tighter grip on Spiritomb as she got more of it to use.
"Now touch the statue and focus your aura into it cause it will function as a lock!"
The guardian put his hand on it. As told he injected his aura into the stone as Dawn and him were connected. The blue streaks of aura coming from him crawled over Dawn's shadow right on to Spiritomb. The evil spirit truing to break out of it, felt itself being compressed into a ball. Riley began to sweat already under his mask. Sealing it took a lot more out of him then he expected.
Dawn created second chain of her shadow to increase the orbs density. Together they pulled on it as the orb of aura and shadow flew to the statue. The orb touched it and the stone began to glow green and blue. The light disappeared after a few seconds leaving no more trace of Spiritomb.
Dawn began to smile, a bit worn out but her attitude was fully charged. Her first big fight against something not human even and she survived. Seeing this as an absolute win on her part she celebrated at her victory by jumping exvitedly in the air.
"It's sealed! We did it!"
"Time to go." Umbreon said there was no time for celebrating.
Riley turned round towards the crowd that was still there. As Lucario he had to make sure nobody tries to break the statue or get close to it.
"Listen up everyone! This spirit is pure evil and the cause of a lot of chaos in Veilstone City! One who tries to get this forbidden power will bring nothing but death and destruction! You have been warned or face our wrath! Don't break this or else we will break you!" Thinking that warning is enough he and Umbreon left.
From on top of the roof Zoey watched Dawn and Riley escaped from the massive crowd after the wolfs message. Seeing her 'sister' and friend leave Dawn did a lot better than the others said she'd do.
"Nice job Dawn. Today is mostly your win."
"Who the hell are you!?" She turned round and saw the man Dawn was fighting clutch his arm. Dawn having broken it before he was in a massive pain and discomfort.
"He doesn't remember anything?" Zoey asked her companion as the man had recollection of the events. Still with them being alone now she might be able to get some info out of him about the origin of the evil spirit and the identity of the necromancer. And even if he did not cooperate she has plenty of methods to make him talk.
See you next year.
See you around.
