"Let's start the meeting. We have work to do."
Riley taking point had already heard the stories the others shared. Having gathered in Heaven the five guardians all came together as Zoey removed the second jewel from her ear. Zoey showing Ash, May and Dawn the orange and red jewel the spirits in the girls earrings spoke up instead.
"For those who have a body I am Flareon. My specialty as the name says is fire."
"Nice to meet you Flareon. I'm Ash." Ash introduced himself to he fourth spirit he'd get to know.
"So you're the second aura guardian. Always nice to meet someone that can understand me out of the family." Flareon sharing the sisters sentiment to aura guardians.
"My name is Dawn. I am holding Umbreon now." Dawn removed her hair showing off her black and yellow earring.
"And I'm May. I'm the new Glaceon." May removed a bang showing off the white and blue jewelry.
"Hello sister." Umbreon said with a hint of dissatisfaction which Dawn picked up on.
"Blacky, nice to hear you too." The fire spirit teased her sibling.
"Don't think I haven't forgiven you for ruining that lovely darkness when you lit the torches in the pyramid."
"That was nearly 7 centuries ago. Get over it."
"I too would get over it if you would stop burning my plants!"
"And my ice!" Leafeon and Glaceon both yelled at Flareon. The five humans all responded in a different way at the sibling rivalry.
"What's going on?" May wondered herself as Leafeon answered for the trio.
"We teach each of you skills outside of fighting. Flareon on the other hand is more of the motto, if you can't burn it, hear up the flame some more till it does."
"I can be subtle."
"You're as subtle as a snowstorm in August!" Glaceon screaming now at Flareon's lack of discretion Riley had enough and let out a nasty cough drawing attention to himself stopping the bickering sisters.
"Forgive me, but as much as you might have missed each other we don't have much time. Can we move it along?" May nodded in agreement as she was in a rush.
"He's right. We need to find that big lipped guy dad mentioned and help the police where we can." Still understaffed any way the five can help keep order was welcome.
"Let's start with how Flareon got here." Ash wanting to know how one of Dawn's many relatives ended up in his hometown.
Flareon telling the five protectors of Veilstone City in their hideout her story of how she got here. The black masked figures attacked her host family years ago and the overwhelming amount of them too much she got taken away from her bloodline. The five listening into her story nodded in agreement. They all had their own little pains to deal with but they all were ready for another fight.
"I got taken from my host family. There wasn't much they could do. Then I got stuck on some random woman by the necromancer. I knew cremation was the better option for a final farewell."
"At least you kept your sense of humor." Glaceon glad to hear her sister was still into fire puns as much as she is into cold ones. Despite the rivalry they were still family in the end all looking for a happy ending and healthy civilization. Flareon had expressed her gratitude multiple times and the bore of being without a host is something none of them wanted to experience.
"I have to thank all of you. In particular Riley."
"You're welcome." The aura guardian just doing what is right didn't boast about it.
"You can really aid us if you can tell the identity of the necromancer." Ash asked her if she was a part of his army of dead for some time. The spirit had bound to see the one responsible for most of their fights.
"His identity as necromancer, he calls himself Cofagrigus. As for his normal name Mr. Kaan, owner of the largest mortuary in town."
"The police have trying to get into his house and mortuary for ages. Dad said they were going to get into Mr. Kaan's house one way or another even without a search warrant. A S.W.A.T is going to invade both places tonight at the same time." May having heard the plan from Norman the police's patience wore thin.
"Do you know what he wants?" Dawn asked Flareon.
"I do. He's not related or an aura guardian so he has no clue I've been listening in on him so I've learned a lot." Having spied in him without him being aware of it Flareon had a great amount of information to spare.
"As for what he wants its the usual. Man full of delusions with power and wants to take over the city. Nothing we haven't seen or experienced before." Making it sound like the most normal case in the world the humans just snickered in the amount of difference in experience.
"Then why all of those attacks?"
"He's testing all of you, the strength of this city. The museum theft where you discovered the undead existence, the kidnapping of mothers and daughters, the prison break, Spiritomb's attack, the police station assault. All of those events are nothing more but to determine your capabilities and limits so that whenever he starts his grand plan he knows our strengths and weaknesses and where to strike."
"So why hasn't he killed us instead of just probing us?" Zoey asked.
"I don't know what he has hidden but it must be something big." Flareon owing them the true danger and surprise Mr. Kaan has remaining. The five figured they had gotten enough information for now.
"Then let's split up again and keep an eye on the police if their raids go wrong. In the meantime patrol the city for minor crimes and opportunistic looters." Zoey suggested as the police were still understaffed from the attack on the station. Although it had nothing to do with her number one enemy but creating a good reputation will eventually aid her when she went back home.
"Or help me return to the family I belong too? If I know the host I got taken from well enough, she still trained her daughter in fighting. A bit of extra guidance from me and she should be ready to join your little guild."
"It be great to meet another one like us!"
"Yeah, we can always use another sis!" Dawn sharing May's excitement in making their little group bigger. Zoey more stoic in her response like the aura guardians at the friends cheering they all smiled though with the prospect of a new companion.
"So what's the name?" Ash asked her as they might come from out of town so they can travel here to get what belongs to the family. It be better to hand it off personally then sending it over mail.
"The surname is Urara. But I vaguely remember her daughter being named Ursula."
The fire spirit calling it out Dawn and May stopped celebrating. The color on their faces paling Ash just threw his head backwards and stared at the ceiling groaning. Riley and Zoey found the three acting all weird.
"NOT HER!" Dawn yelled the loudest of them all.
"No! No! No! No!" May shook her head wild refusing to believe the opposite power of hers is the heritage to that person.
"You're kidding. Please tell me you're the sister with a sense of humor that loves clowning around." Ash shared his girlfriend and May's opinion. Out of everyone in the city why her?
"What is the problem?" Riley asked.
"Please tell me she isn't next in line to receive you. Not her."
"Who?" Zoey needed a few seconds more but the penny dropped and since the other girls knew her better it made sense how they reacted.
"Oh, that girl. I had a bunch of run ins with her thinking she can pick on the new girl. Let's say she's missing the basic attitude to join us from the start. Hard pass." Zoey new at school already had talks with the redhead. Talks she rather would've skipped altogether.
"You know the stereotype of vain bully girl that thinks she's better than everyone? You get Ursula Urara. Dawn and May are on the cheerleader team with her but from what I've heard in Ursula puts the M and E in team." Ash telling Riley who Ursula is the older guardian found it strange Ash talked the way he did about the redhead.
"Still she deserves to have a host just like us. I know what it's been not being used for more than a decade."
"Not you too!" Dawn getting where Umbreon came from at the lack of company due to her mom concealing the truth but she was already looking for different options.
"Can't one of us just take it and dual wield like Zoey did? Or give it to our moms instead? You have a little brother May, give it to him." Dawn wondered if there was a way to keep the gem out of Ursula's hands. Somebody with a fiery temper with fire powers to match would create more work for the fire department than they can bargain for.
"Urgh, giving Max fire powers compared to my ice sounds somehow worse." May loving her little brother did not want to supply him with her natural counter.
"That's not how this works. One gem, one host family." Glaceon telling them all they had traditions and rules in place that each 'sister' is supposed to follow. Flareon only allowed the use of her power by a non Urara to put out and save the lives of the cops in the sawmill.
"This is a stupid idea." Dawn always open for Umbreon's wisdom and knowledge went against it fully partnership be damned.
"This is a dumb idea." May joined in.
"This is a bad idea." Ash now joined as well.
"Anymore synonyms for not agreeing to it? I'm calling veto right. So who's giving me to her?" Flareon running out of patience was going to get to the Urara's one way or another.
"Not me!" May screamed.
"Can't you girls just slip it into her bag in cheer practice? Saves the confrontation and allows Flareon to explain and get her ready for the team." Ash suggested wanting as little contact with Ursula as possible.
"Fine, I'll do it."
Dawn sighed in the end having a change of heart. Going up to Riley she took Flareon from his hand. Looking at the earring she placed it in her right ear for now.
"I'm going to hate it but I owe Umbreon one. Like she said she knows what it is like to be out of the family for a long time." It being more as a favor for her spirit than Ursula Ash knew this was hard for her. She and Ursula had been rivals since they attended high school for the first day together and never would be friends. He wanted to show more support for the difficult decision but did not wanted to let his teammates suspect his feelings for Dawn.
"Ok. Take Flareon to Ursula and then keep yourself as Umbreon as long as you can. Only reveal this place once you're absolutely sure she's suitable." Ash told her not to just hand out the big secrets all at once. Unlike Zoey that got accepted right away, Ursula had to prove herself. With the plan set for today they went out and to protect Veilstone City some more while aiding the police search for the wanted Mr. Kaan.
"I hate this, I hate this, I hate this,"
Just before Dawn would do her patrol she made a large detour. Her powers and skill in sneaking surpassing all her teammates she rather get it over it. Being close to the house she knew Ursula lived Dawn saw a regular two story house almost in the same matter as hers.
Even during the daytime the streets were barren. Dawn seeing nothing made a leap for Ursula's house and checked the upper floors. The second window led to a room filled with posters of boybands and a beautiful salsa dancer with a red dress. Seeing no one in it she ckunted hersekf lucky as she set to work.
"Well. This is the place." Figuring it was Ursula's room Dawn used her shadow to unlock the window the same way she once did when she broke into Ash's house. Crawling inside a vanity mirror with a small table had a small pink chest with make up and jewelry placed in it. Opening it she unclipped Flareon's earring but not before looking at it one last time.
"I'm going to regret this so bad." Lamenting the horrible mistake she's about to make Dawn placed Flareon into the chest.
"Thank you Dawn."
Dawn closing it and leaving it behind as it was hurried out the window before locking it again from the outside in. Her task complete she raced off to join the others hoping it will take her mind off the potential abuser of Flareon's powers. Somehow a necromancer and a drug dealer with powers doesn't sound that bad.
Short one.
See you around.
