Elementary Alchemy
Chapter 1: Stranger in a strange land.
By Vox Deruste
In the dense rain of Resembool walked a tired, haggard figure. Dazed and confused and weighed down in the mud. Her every stepped was a struggle against her own sore body. Drenched in the freshwater of the rain and the saltwater she barely remembered.
The only memory in her mind was that of pain and that of water. First drowning, then blackness, then waking up smothered in the rain near a destroyed home. The foundations burned. Her memories were blurry and felt blocked, She didn't even know her own name. All she knew was that she was trying to get to someone...for help. Help with what she did not know. She wandered the road in the rain until she got to a small house with a sign that she couldn't read.
She weakly knocked on the door.
A small old woman greeted her.
" I'm sorry but we aren't taking order-" The old woman looked up at the weary girl. " What happened to you?" The girl took that as an invitation and walked into the house.
" Sorry but I need...rest." The girl's breath was shallow and she nearly collapsed onto the floor.
" I got you." The small old woman held her up and lead her to a coach. The sounds of feet rushing down a staircase followed.
" Granny! Was that Edward-" A blond girl with blue eyes saw the tired girl on the couch. Breathing in shallow breaths and resting on the couch. " Are you all right?" The blond girl asked as she got to the tired stranger's side.
" I'm...lost...tired….where am I?" She asked with breaths in between the words.
" Resembool." The old woman answered. " I'm Pinako, and this is Winry." Pinako introduced herself.
" Can you tell us something about yourself? Your name?" Winry question in a careful tone. The strange girl put a hand over her face and tried to focus. She tried to remember, something, anything that might mean anything to her. She remembers a few words. One held her attention, Avatar. And one name did come to her mind.
" Korra. Avatar Korra." She answered with some reservation, the closet memory was what she remembered as a battle. Blaming her for something. Many faints impressions of expectations and disappointment.
" That's a strange name. Does a place named Xing or Ishval mean anything to you? Winry asked sincerely. Korra saw it and wanted to answer honestly but her memory was still unreliable and vague. It was jogging but only the feelings and some facts, not the meaning behind them or the context.
" I don't think so...aren't familiar." Pinako shook her head the answer.
" Guess we have no choice." Korra nearly immediately started to get up. Pinako slapped a piece of wood on her foot.
" Ow!"
" I meant how are we going to help you rest." Pinako swelled the young women. " Your half tired and half-starving. You need nourishment, not to get back into the rain. Jeez, your nearly as thick-headed as a pipsqueak I know." Korra looked toward both of them.
" I can rest?" She question.
" For now. Once you better for walking around, you can do some chores for us and we can figure where you can go from there. People under my roof work for their supper." Pinako explained. " You don't mind stew with milk right?" Korra raised her eyebrow but Pinako went into the kitchen all the same.
Winry looked the girl up and down noticed the bruises and muscles on the girl.
" Are you with the military?" She asked extra cautiously. Korra shook her head.
" Don't know where I am." She responded softly.
" Right. When you somehow are in the countryside of Amestris." Winry said lackadaisically. " You kinda have a soldier body so I kinda assumed. Do you fight?" Korra looked at her hands and could feel the lingering feeling of clenched fists and rough cresses on her fingers.
" Fought a lot." Korra said with a slight smile. " I'm very good at fighting."
" Huh, maybe you can give a friend of mine a run for their money sometimes." Winry said before giving Korra a blanket. " Granny will probably let you stay and maybe give you some money if you do some work around here. We're a long way from anywhere." Winry explained. Korra only felt more confused by the question of how she got there. She was sure she was near seawater, the salt she felt on her arms couldn't be a lie but did that turn up on a meadow afterward.
" I hope you enjoy soup." Pinako carried out a bowl of soup for Korra. She downed the bowl in one gulp, loudly burping after doing so. " Well...I guess another mouth to feed for now. I hope you enjoy milk and soup." Pinako walked up the stairs whistling. " I'm having Den watch over you while you're here." A dog with a metallic leg walked down with a happy face and a tongue sticking out. Korra gave it a peculiar look. A confused stare mixed with curiosity.
" Den here was one of our first customers!" Winry said proudly, pointing to the leg. Korra said nothing and Winry noticed the look. " You don't like dogs?" She asked.
" It's...just a dog." Korra said with a disappointment she couldn't quite place.
" Yeah, a dog." Said a confused Winry.
" Just a dog."
" Again, yes?" Winry was somewhat confused by Korra's focus on Den's species than the metallic leg. She especially made the latest model and Korra was overlooking that for the fact of Den being a dog. Like something was missing.
" The metal leg is strange yet I feel...I don't know. That I have seen a stranger, but don't remember it." Korra tried to articulate. Winry tried to nod. She honestly hoped her memory problem was a physical one, she could help with that but this ailment seemed outside her talents.
" Den will keep you company. Night Korra." Winry went up the stairs, leaving Korra with the happy dog. She stroked Den's back and lay on the couch, Thankful for the grandmother and granddaughter duo's kindness. While also lamenting her current situation. Where will she go? Where should she go? And why does she feel that there is something she needs to return towards? If it was important why would she forget it?
A nagging voice kept whispering in her ear, barely audible. A quiet female one that sounded ancient. She felt the pull of dreams slowly overtake the whispering as Den crawled onto the couch. The voice slowly became silent as she tried to figure out who she was?"
Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric have had bad days, and while they did have worse. The last few days have been some of their worst. The Nina incident, the run-in with scar and nearly dying by his hand. The week was nearly saved by the discovery of Doctor Marco and that a philosopher stone is possible.
The boys were still badly damaged by the fights, Alphonse with his entire side that the living armor needed to be carried in a box, and Edward was missing his arm.
The two alchemist brothers were followed by Major Alexander Louis Armstrong. In a bodyguard capacity. A large muscular man with a flair for the dramatic and the flamboyant. Carrying the box with Alphonse with one hand.
The first friendly face in their way was the barking face of Den. And a dark-skinned, muscular woman chopping wood. The brothers walked slightly cautiously around her.
" Hey! You two know the Rockbells!? She shouted out, carrying a stack of chopped wood. The brothers were weary, the state of their bodies is a secret to outsiders and strangers, especially the vacant armor of Alphonse. It's hard to tell people that your brother is bound to a suit of armor by a seal of blood because you both committed the greatest taboo of Alchemy. The girl persistently ran toward them.
" Yeah. My name is Edward Elric, That's Alphonse and Major Armstrong." Armstrong waved with his free hand and looked the girl in the eyes.
" It's always nice to see another builder of great physique." Armstrong proclaimed.
" Oh, your thouse's Elrics. Winry's been wondering when you would come." Korra walked by the side of the group. Armstrong lifted Alphonse in such a way as to block Korra's view of the armor's tear and possibly the seal of blood.
" And you are?"
" Edward, don't be rude." Armstrong reprimanded. " It's not proper to treat a lady as such."
" He's kinda right to be suspicious, Kinda walked out the rain with no memory and Pinako's been letting me stay for the last few days." Edward and Alphonse were expecting a 'I'm kidding' but Korra let the explanation sit in.
" I swear if you're conning them-"
" Then I'll let you slug me." Korra said bluntly. "If I was the kind of terrible person to do that I would rather use the anesima thing to be someone better." She explained as they got within sight of the Rockbell home. Edward was cut off guard by the bluntness but appreciated something straightforward after such a complicated week.
Korra stood outside the door while Edward showed his broken automail to Winry.
After some slugging and some deal-making, Korra was let back into the room. Korra saw a replacement prosthetic limb being put into the sockets of Edward Elric's left leg and right arm.
She didn't want to admit to it but she stared at the wound. Korra's memories have been slow to come back to her but she did feel that she was a fighter like she told Winry. She had thoughts and vague impressions of fights and fighting techniques. It seemed most of her lingering memories revolved around fighting.
But yet the sight of the wound made Korra cringe for a few more seconds than she wanted.
" I know that I have said that I'm a bit suspicious but is having me stay out of earshot of the room necessary. I can handle blood." Korra believed. She wasn't quite sure. The impression of fights she remembered seemed strangely bloodless.
" This is technically a medical problem so patient-doctor confidentiality." Winry explained. Korra nodded but still found it strange that Armstrong was allowed to stay in the room. Korra caught a glimpse of the arm, the complex machinery, and the intricate metalwork that went into it. Also, the strange damage that it had on it. Like flakes of chipped wood.
" What causes damage like that?"
" Well, these idiots keep bringing my beautiful automail into harm's way in pointless fights." She glared at Edward.
" Someone tried to kill them." Korra said out loud but she meant to say it internally. Winry's glare turned slightly softer.
" I thought you knew nothing of alchemy.
" I don't but I apparently know how to attempt to kill when I see. It looks like a small explosion destroyed and seeing that it's his arm, someone probably aimed more for the fleshy body." Korra turned to Edward who kept a stern look.
" I'm a state alchemist, It happens." Edward turned to look at Armstrong.
" I can vouch that the Elric brothers were in a rather dangerous fight that caused it." Pinako and Winry both looked at what remained of Edward's arm and his leg.
" I'll have to rebuild from scratch." Winry started to crunch the numbers in her head. " I'll get out in three days but you'll be paying a fortune in rush order fees." She said happily. She ran off with the materials to the second floor.
" We'll also need to refit the leg, it appears you have at least grown some, however minuscule it might be." Edward looked like he was going to argue with the old woman but he sighed as Pinako installed an older, replacement leg. Edward stumbled on it but got around well enough on it. " Why don't you help around the house while you're here, Major Armstrong." Pinako pointed to the remaining logs outside that needed to be cut.
Korra was going to hand him the ax but Armstrong took off his shirt and punched the logs bare-fisted.
" I guess I'll find something else to do." Korra lamented.
" Help Ed where you can." Edward bristled at Pinako's words.
" I don't need it." Edward remarked as he put on his jacket.
" It's not about needing Edward, but about the gesture. Besides, you can't do much with your alchemy and I at least know you need both hands or a symbol to put a hand to do that." Pinako urged him.
" You can make sure I don't do anything suspicious." Korra added. Edward groaned but didn't stop Korra from following him. " What about your brother?"
Edward turned to his brother in the box.
" We can leave him with the chickens for now." Following Korra heaved the box with Alphonse in it above her knees. " Jeez, how strong are you?"
" Plenty." Korra said with pride. Korra lifted an Alphonse box in front of the house's chicken.
" Um, thanks." Alphonse shyly said. Korra was confused by how such a large figure had such a young voice but dropped it. There is a story behind the brothers but it was not her place to pry it open. " Are you going to-"
" Yeah Al. I am." Edward said sullenly. " I'll say 'Hi' for you." Edward walked away from his brother. Korra followed after him. It was honestly an uncomplicated route Edward took. He went straight to get a bouche of flowers and along the way to his next stop, met up with an old neighbor. Korra stayed close enough in case he fell and held the flowers for him.
She tried to guess who they were for. She guessed some things from the brothers' earlier exchange. She honestly thought that the Rockbells were their families but the last names were different, so maybe the flowers for a relative.
It started to become certain she was, in some sense, right as they went toward a Cemetery. It was clear when they got to a certain tombstone.
Trisha Elric.
" Do you want me to leave you alone for this." Korra softly asked.
" You can stay." Edward replied softly, never taking his eyesight away from the grave. He laid down flowers and stared at the tombstone.
" Are you going to say a few words?" Korra asked. Edward thought for a moment and gave the greeting to Al but stopped there.
" I'm not a spiritual person, I'm honestly an atheist at heart. I just…" Edward struggled to find the words.
" You want to honor the dead. How you do that is no one's business but your own." Korra tried to assure him. Before she saw a reaction from him, he looked out toward the hills. Near what looked like a ruin.
Korra remembered passing by it the night she came into the Rockbells house two days ago. The first thing she clearly remembered.
Edward wordlessly went toward the house. Stopping only before the edge where a stone wall used to be.
It was a small ruin. The beams of the house still standing straight surrounded by the rumble of floorboards and burned wood. Stone at the outer edges. He stared out for some into the ruins, the sun setting behind them both.
" I think we should get back to the house. Dinner's probably ready Edward." Korra placed a hand on his shoulder and he snapped back to reality. He followed Korra this time to the house as his thoughts seemed to preoccupy his mind. That concentration was broken when he opened the door.
A crying Armstrong grabbed him tightly, crushing the air out of him while Korra watched from the door frame.
" What unyielding love to try to bring your mother back to life! What a tremendous sacrifice to give up your arm in order to transmute your brother's disembodied soul! What determination to burn down your own house to make sure that there was no retreat!" Armstrong cried out in strong deference. " Come, Edward! Allow me to offer you this embrace." As he bear-hugged him with his bare chest like a vice. Only stopping noticing Korra's confused face. " Oh um…" Armstrong for once looked embarrassed.
" Guess even more people know now." Edward groaned as he gasped for air. He turned to face Korra. " You wouldn't mind keeping that to yourself. Would ya?" Edward asked. Korra was still trying to wrap her head around what was said but nodded. They awkwardly had dinner after the revelation.
Korra stewed over the information given.
Trying to bring people back from the dead? Giving up a piece of yourself to get back your brother's soul? Burning your own houses as a form of resolve?
Korra didn't quite know how to process all of it at once.
The days went by quickly after that. Two days of them.
Korra watched Edward pester Winry most of those days for the status of his arm, eventually, she kicked him out of her workroom. On that, she saw him laze around on the grass with his brother with Den. She walked up to them.
" Hi Korra." greeted Alphonse. " Are you bored?" Korra shrugged.
" Partially, Mister Armstrong takes care of the chores on his own." She sat next to Alphonse as Edward sat on the other side of the armor.
" Yeah well, at least you have all your limbs in use while you wait." Edward whined.
" They said three days. So give them three days." Alphonse suggested to Edward's chagrin. It went quiet as the three of them plus Den stared into the sky. An hour or two by as they laid in silence.
" This is a beautiful place you have here." Korra said as she took in the breeze.
" It really is." Edward agreed. " Do you know what you are going to do?"
" If it's the amnesia thing, I have been remembering things a bit more but it's still vague. I remember names but not who they are and I think some fighting moves." Korra remembered names such as Asami, Mako, Bolin. She even remembered her parents, Tonroq and Senna. But she barely remembered who they were, just their names and their faces. " I guess I don't really know where to go from here." Korra said sadly. She didn't want to impose on the Rockbell's any more than she already has but she can't just stay here.
Something in her mind was trying to tell her to come back but it was still too faint to hear clearly. Something about the convergence coming soon. What did that mean?
Alphonse noticed the forlorn tone in her voice.
" Want to show us the fighting moves you remember?" Alphonse asked. "Maybe if you try them out more of your memories will come out." Alphonse was asking so that Korra could take her mind off that question. He didn't know if it would jog her memory but she needed some encouragement.
A small smile came across Korra's face. She stood up and readied herself. Jabbing the air in quick succession, as she did this gust of air blasted out from her fist. Edward stood up in shock.
" Are you an alchemist?" He questioned as he tried to rationalize why air blasted from her hands. He guessed alchemy but there was no transmutation circle. But before they could question this more Winry came running with a complete arm.
" It's all done!" She yelled out to them. They gave a collected confused look at each other. They silently agreed to save the conversation for later. After Edward's arm is reattached.
After a painful ratchet joint, Edwards's arm was socketed into place.
" Now this has more of a percentage of chrome in it so it won't rust as easily, but it's weaker so be careful and go picking figh-" Korra tapped Winry's shoulder to show a bombastic Edward Elric leaving on his refurbished arm and leg. Running towards Alphonse. Korra followed close behind.
Korra caught a glimpse of alchemy for the first time. Winry explained that Alchemy was a technique to manipulate materials with circles and hands. She also told her that Ed and Al were very good at it. She saw what Winry meant as she saw Edward clapped his hands together and placed them next to Alphonse and several pieces of scrap metal. Within a second of brilliant blue light, the metal reformed to fit the missing bits of Alphonse's body.
" How are you feeling Al." Korra asked, impressed by the handiwork of the alchemy.
" Good as new." Alphonse declared before Edward struck his metal arm against Al's.
" Now we get to tracking down Doctor Marco's research notes and the philosopher's stone." Edward proclaimed with a smirk. Korra blasted some air and knocked him down. " Hey."
" Hey yourself. I've wanted to spare for a while and you look like you're on top of the world right now." Korra got into a fighting stance. " Someone needs to keep you humble." Korra said with a wide, mischievous smirk.
" Oh, I see." Edward got into a stance. " You think you can beat me."
" Replace 'think' with will and you'll be right." Korra started the sparring with quick jabs of wind. Winry, Armstrong, and Pinako watching from the house.
" They are certainly a lively bunch." Armstrong commented. He watched and saw the fighting style that Korra employed. It looked like a mix of boxing with wide evasive maneuvers but it seemed to lean more toward the attack. Evading and then coming in for hits straight after.
" Honestly I hoped Korra wasn't going to be as meat-headed as those two." She watched as Alphonse joined into the sparring.
" Is that alchemy she's using?" Pinako questioned.
" It's nothing I've seen before." Armstrong watched carefully the movements and saw how the wind-bent to her will when she performed those punches and kicks. " It's not alchemy, I'm sure of that." Armstrong had an idea fostering in his head.
After several hours of sparring and dinner. Edward went out cold, sleeping on the couch. Alphonse looking over Edward with Korra. Pinako and Winry walked in with warm tea.
" Just how you described." Winry said as she passed it to Korra.
" It's nice that I remembered a drink instead of a name this time." She said before taking a warm sip of tea. It went down her gullet smooth. " I think I remember some more stuff about me. I'm seventeen, I like noodles and soup, and have a...polar bear-dog." She said the last bit with reservation. While Winry and Alhpsone tilted their heads with slight confusion they focused on the positive.
" At Least you're getting back your memories." Alphonse put a hand on her shoulder. " Thanks for the sparring."
" How old are you two boy's now?" Pinako asked as she looked at the sleeping Edward.
" I'm fourteen, And brother's fifteen." Alphonse answered. Korra was slightly surprised Edwards's height made it slightly hard to see him as near her age but when she remembered the cemetery and story of his mother. He seemed mentally older than her. Or at least more worldly, for the moment. " Thank you both."
" What for Al?" Winry asked.
" I'm grateful that you both always welcome us as family. I know he'll never say it but I know he feels the same way. He said, pointing his helmet straight at Edward.
" He doesn't need to say. We're just that kind of folk." Pinako said while looking at Korra. She smiled and Korra felt warm inside.
" Granny, Winery. Thank you." Alphonse said softly.
Korra walked out of the room to give the brothers. When she exited she saw a slightly weepy Armstrong near the door. He composed himself when he saw Korra.
" Miss...do you remember having a last name?" Armstrong asked as he wiped a lingering tear with a handkerchief.
" No. I remember my parent's first names but not last names." Korra answered honestly as Armstrong led her away from the room.
" That is a shame, a person should not forget their family. Purposefully or forcefully." Armstrong said with sympathy. " What do you remember of your home?" Armstrong questioned leading Korra to a table. Korra and the Major took a seat.
" Vaguely, I remember stuff about snow and ice. A big home, I think I come from a tribe of some kind." Korra tried to explain. Armstrong dutifully kept track of the details and tried to think of a place that matched a location.
" Near mountains?" Armstrong asked with a raised eyebrow.
" No...No, I'm sure. I also think it is south or that south is in its name." Korra's mind went to the name Southern Water tribe. But it seemed too vague a name to give, she hoped that she could remember a proper name at some point that could help.
" Well, that eliminates the sounding nations?" Korra sighed over Armstrong's deductions.
" Great, it makes the search longer."
" Which means we're not in conflict with your home." Armstrong clarified.
" Okay, Winry told me that this country tends to get into a lot of war's but every country around it?" Korra was surprised by how she could've ended up in a country in border disputes with every neighbor.
" Amestris has always had a need for people ready to defend it." Armstrong said with some reservations. " Its military is a point of pride. Few nations have military state alchemists." Armstrong seemed to begrudgingly mention it. Korra sensed a sort of unease about him, as he talked about it.
" It feels like you're trying to recruit me?" Korra replied. Armstrong had a strong reaction but then calmed down.
" No, no, no. I'm not really one for recruiting." Armstrong said as he rubbed the back of his neck. A comfortable air stewed around him. " I do think that if you come with the Elric's to Central, we could use the resources to see if we can find any documentation." Korra raised her eyebrows in surprise.
" Are you asking me to come with you three?" Korra asked as she thought it over in her head.
" Only if you agree." Armstrong emphasized.
Korra thought about the offer. Winry and Pinako seemed to have mixed feelings about the military and she didn't know them. She only knew anyone for a few days, but the capital city must have some information about her. Something that could help her, something at the least.
" I honestly can't find a reason to say no. What will we do when we get there?"
" The Elric's want to go to the Central Library. And until the murderer Scar is caught they need a bodyguard." Armstrong looked Korra dead in the eye. " I don't know what kind of fighting style you use but you do seem to be an experienced fighter and the Elric's can pull their weight. I still have to give them a military escort but having more eyes and ears can't hurt." Armstrong explained.
" And you're fine with asking a stranger this?" Korra questioned.
" Honestly I have a good amount of faith in people." Armstrong said with a slight smile. " I also can see that you're a straightforward person that at least seems to enjoy helping people. The Elric's could use people like that for their quest and they share this trait as well. Again you don't need to accept this offer, you can stay here and try to unlock the memory yourself." Korra gave it the last thought and nodded.
" I guess I could look around Central with the boys if you're offering to help me with this. I do think I like fighting...the boys do seem to get involved in a lot of fights." The Major chuckled slightly. " I guess I agree with that arrangement. I'm going to hate going in the morning though." Korra groaned.
" You get used to it." Armstrong said with a jovial smile. " Get some rest, it will help with the morning drowsiness." Armstrong got up from his seat and went to the cot the Rockbell's set up for him. " Good night miss Kora."
" Night Mister Armstrong." Korra left him with his cot and went to her's, left with the thoughts of the offer and what she would find out about herself. One half of her was worried she might have taken a bad deal, the other half was strangely excited. A new city, interesting people, a chance to show what she can do and figure out what that is. A part of her felt ecstatic about it. She didn't know if she could help the brothers or if they could help her but she might as well find some enjoyment from it.
She had fun sparring with them, and they didn't have a definitive winner. Maybe she just wanted to use them as a measuring stick for her progress. Thoughts of these kinds were in her mind as she nodded off to sleep.
At the first light of dawn. The Elric's, Major Armstrong, and Korra woke up from slumber. Korra is the least alert of all of them, drowsy and slumping.
" The morning is evil." Korra groaned.
" It's not that bad. If Me and Armstrong can do it, so can you." Edward handwaved.
" Your military." Korra complained. " I'm a hobbyist..as far as I know." Korra recanted.
" Do try and come by when you can." Pinako asked as she tapped the shoulder of an equally tired Winry.
" Be careful Korra…" Winry could barely make full sentences. " Knuckleheads...leads to *yawn* pointless fighting." Winry was buckling at the knee.
" Honestly, you want us to come all the way to the country for dinner?" Edward joked. A smile appeared on Pinako's face. A smaller one on Winry's face as she waved them all off.
" Take care of yourself!" Korra yelled out as they started to walk away.
" We'll come back when we can, maybe when my Ed's arm is not destroyed." Alphonse joked. Edward himself groaned but bit back his annoyance and waved back to Winry behind him.
" How long is the ride to Central?" Korra asked as they walked the dirt road.
" A couple stops and that's it. A full day?" Edward guessed, he never calculated the distance before. " Either way we can go to the library and try to kill two birds with one stone. Find Marco's notes and try to find stuff that will jog your memory. Are you fine with that?" Edward asked Korra. She shrugged.
" You know about this place so I'm just following your lead on this." They shook on it when the view of the train station was in their sight.
In another world.
" WHAT KIND OF A FOOL ARE YOU!" Screamed a deep and dark voice in the mind of the northern water tribe king.
Unalaq was overlooking a map of the world. The positions of his troops and that of the spirits coming into the material world were represented on it. Along with the last known location of the Avatar. Where his children supposedly lead her to her death.
"THE PLAN ONLY WORKS WHEN SHE OPENS BOTH PORTALS AND NOW, NOT ONLY CAN SHE NOT DO THAT. YOUR CHILDREN MAY HAVE WASTED A TEN THOUSAND YEAR OPPORTUNITY." The voice growled. " ALL THAT PLANNING FOR NOTHING."
Unalaq managed to trick the Avatar to open the southern portal by using the existing dark spirits to pressure her into it. But now that she was gone, that plan went out the window. If she was dead then they would need to find her reincarnated as an infant somewhere in the wider world. A needle in a haystack with a ticking clock of only a few weeks. If she was not dead then they would track her down, a daunting task with the civil war eating up the manpower and the resources.
" We can still track her down before the Convergence." The Unalaq tried to reason with the voice.
" I don't sense her or Raava in the material world, Human king. Only the faintest of tether's." The voice explained. " But on the day that the convergence comes and she is not there to open both the portals." The loud voice became quieter and yet fiercer. " I will have a pound of flesh from humanity or your family, whether by my own tendrils or that of my army. Walk carefully oh king of the north." The voice echoed away, the warning fresh in Unalaq's mind.
Unalaq had great disappointment for his children for force this situation but he took solace that as long as the portals are under his domain and reach, he could still accomplish the plan. He stewed over the question of where Korra has disappeared to?
