LYSA
"Mother where are we going?" Robin asks his mother Lysa Arryn as they travel in a wheelhouse.
She wipes her eye, "We are going to Riverrun, where I grew up. You are going to meet your Uncle Edmure and Grandfather Lord Hoster Tully."
"What about father?"
"Your father and I are...We..." She sighs, "He will not be your father anymore."
"Why?"
"Shush now my son." She had not the heart to tell him yet. But she is determined to stand up to her father and beg if she must to have her son made a Tully or give him his father's name. She would also demand that he give her son his own keep. No, the man she loved would die with no heir. And her son will not be a bastard.
After three weeks of travel, they finally reach her childhood home. Riverrun is the seat of power in the Riverlands and it has always been home to the Tullys. Not the largest castle in the Riverlands. The castle had a river flowing to the right and left of it making it very hard to lay siege to. There is a draw bridge to reach the main gate that can be extended or retracted. The castle has six hundred rooms not including the main hall, barracks, the libraray and other amenities.
Edmure greets her in the courtyard. After speaking with the Vale guards they leave. "Lysa...It is good to see you."
"And you as well Ed. Where is father?"
"Gone hunting. He is feeling much better. That bastard Uthereydes was poisoning him."
"What!"
"Yeah. The Masked Dragon was in our home. He healed father."
Lysa's mind is spinning. She did not know about her father, but she wondered was her Baleish's death connected to Uther's betrayal. "Poisoned?"
"Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. Turns out that Baelish promised the old Maetser his own keep in the Vale if he did it. So tell me, why are you here?"
Should she tell him the truth? The truth would come out anyway, "Jon Arryn had our marrauge annulled."
He frowns, "Why?"
"I don't wish to talk about. Suffice to say that enough talking will be done when Father returns from his hunt. How long has he been gone?"
"Four days."
After introducing her son to Edmure she goes to her old room. If things did not go well with her father. She had her sister and then there was her mother's family the Whents of Harrenhal. Not willing to endure her brother's questions or stares Lysa takes her meals in her room with Robin. Her son is seven name days old and just weened off the breast to her shame.
The days pass by slowly and Lysa spends them mentally preparing for her father. "Lord Hoster Tully has returned!" A man declares in a booming voice. Lysa has her son remain in is room and she goes to his solar to wait for him after leaving word with a servant. Her heart pounds as his footsteps echo up the hallway. The door is already open. He enters with the Captain of his House Guards and her brother Edmure.
"Hello father."
He stares at her, "Leave us." The guard salutes and leaves. He walks around the desk and sits down. Edmure sits, but Lysa remains standing. A single tear slides down his face. "I know everything...The Masked Dragon told me. He also told me what he intended to do."
"Father..."
"Silence!" He yells interrupting her, "This House came to power over the Riverlands because Aegon the Conqueror rewarded it to us. Our ancestor Edmyn Tully betrayed the Haren the Great and the Iron Born to fight for the Dragon Lord...The Mad King had to be put down and I sided with Robert who is now King, Lord Stark and Jon Arryn...
Our alliance bought down the Targaryen Dynasty. You betrayed this family for that man...You plotted with him to kill Jon Arryn and if not for the Masked Dragon he would have killed Jon, Me and started a war...I owe my life and health to the Masked Dragon and when he takes the Iron Throne, I will bend the knee...
Family Duty Honor...Those are our words. Look into my eyes and tell me that you had no knowledge of Baelish's plot to poison me."
Lysa's face is wet with tears, "I had no knowledge of that...I swear by the seven...I swear on the life of my son."
He grunts, "You are my daughter...You can stay here. But you may not join me at meals. Do not speak to me or look my way. They say time heals all wounds and you my daughter have wounded me greatly."
"And my son?"
"Shares your blood. My blood...I will make him a Tully. You may tell him whatever story you wish...After a year he will head to Winterfell to be a ward of Lord Stark's. If I see none of Baelish in him...He'll get his own Keep and Lands in the Riverlands."
"Thank you, father." She thought he would be more severe with her, but he was not. It was the best she could hope for. There was no need to argue with him or stand up to him as she planned to do. As he told her Lysa was not welcome at meals in the main hall. Her brother visited her often and even ate with her. "Does it make father mad for you to eat with me?" She asks after a month passes.
"No."
"Does he ask about me?" he shakes his head no. After another month Lysa tells her son the truth of what happened and who his real father is. "I did not know that your father was having your grandfather, poisoned. I admonish you Robin to be a better man than your father was. Ambition is not a bad thing, so long as you keep your honor in your rise to power."
