The Ultra Recon Squad
"Pew!" The crowded streets of Heahea City began to murmur excitedly at the sudden appearance of Nebby II.
"What is that thing?!"
"I don't know but it sure is cute!" People pulled out their Rotom Phones and began snapping pictures of the cosmic cloud while a few younger trainers excitedly reached for their Pokeballs.
"I'm gonna catch it!"
"P-Pew!" Nebby shivered lightly, his eyes narrowed as the flash blinded him making him easy prey for the Pokeballs.
"Hey what's going on over there?" Mallow questioned. Zach, Dawn and Mallow had just returned from their Ula'ula Island adventure and were on their way to get something to eat when their attention was diverted by the murmuring crowd.
"It looks like... Nebby?" Dawn questioned with a light tilt of her head. "But I don't see Lillie or Ash anywhere."
"That is Nebby, right?" Zach turned to Lucario who swiftly nodded in response.
"Carr..."
Zach quickly took note of the trainers preparing to catch Nebby. "Did Lillie ever catch him?" If she did then there was nothing to worry about as the Pokeballs would simply bounce right off him.
"I'm not sure, she always keeps Nebby inside of her bag." Mallow frowned while performing a light shrug.
"Then we've got to put a stop to this, Umbreon and Lucario use Psychic to stop those Pokeballs!" Zach shouted while tossing a Friend Ball into the air.
"Umbre!" The shiny Umbreon cried out upon bursting from his ball, his eyes quickly shined bright blue alongside Lucario's while a similar glow surrounded the various Pokeballs and froze them in place with some mere inches off from Nebby!
"P-Pew..." Nebby shivered as people continued snapping pictures of him, the blinding light was making it difficult for him to teleport away.
"Don't worry Nebby, I got you." Mallow made her way through the crowd before taking hold of Nebby, shielding him within her arms.
"Pew..."
"Hey you can't do that!"
"Yeah, I was going to catch it!"
"No, I was going to catch it!"
"None of you are going to catch it, it belongs to somebody else!" Mallow exclaimed.
"Not according to the Pokedex app." One of the trainers piped up.
"Yeah, you're just some girl. We can take you easily, right Decidueye?!"
"Hoot!"
"Yeah, Incineroar and I will curbstomp you easily!"
"Roar!"
"Please, my Primarina will wipe the floor with all of you!"
"Priiima!"
Mallow went pale and shivered lightly as various trainers began readying up their Pokeballs. Tsareena was the only Pokemon that she owned and she wasn't anywhere near as experienced as her friends. If a fight broke out she was liable to get hurt.
"Hey if you want to touch her, you'll have to go through me!" Zach, Lucario, Cinderace and Umbreon pushed their way through the crowd before taking defensive positions in front of Mallow.
"Who are you, her boyfriend?" A random trainer scoffed.
"No but I am her friend and I'm not about to stand by and let you hurt her!" Zach shouted out.
"Carr..."
"Ace!"
"Umbre!"
The trainers glared back making it appear as if a fight was ready to break out.
"Hey wait a moment, I recognize that guy. He was with our Champion when he defeated Eternal Night or whatever that creature was called!" A trainer anxiously exclaimed while slowly backing off.
"Oh shoot, didn't he catch one of those wolves?" Another trainer asked. "I really don't want to go up against that thing!"
"Me either!"
Zach and Lucario shared a brief look before Zach pulled an empty Ultra Ball from his pocket. "As a matter of fact, I just happen to have Zamazenta here today! If I say the word, he'll come out and use Behemoth Bash on the lot of you!" Zach shouted while holding up the Ultra Ball.
"Screw that, I don't have a death wish!" Most of the trainers turned tail and ran, one remained behind and appeared to call his bluff however as soon as he realized he was alone and got a good look at Lucario and Cinderace's level, he too turned and ran off.
"Heh, I can't believe that actually worked." Zach sweated. Dawn rolled her eyes in a playful fashion before planting a kiss on her boyfriend's cheek.
Mallow gave Zach an appreciative look while retrieving her own Rotom Phone. "Hello Lillie? We found Nebby."
Ash and Leaf gave each other challenging looks as they stood on opposite sides of the battlefield. After finishing their double date, Ash and the others ventured back to the Battle Tree so Ash and Leaf could have their Pokemon battle. The two childhood friends were eager to see how strong the other had become since setting off on their respective adventures so it didn't take long for a battle to break out as soon as they arrived at the Battle Facility.
"As per Battle Tree rules, this battle will be a full six on six Pokemon battle." Gary explained to Ash while standing on the battlefield's sideline. "No substitutions are allowed and you're only permitted the usage of one regional gimmick so choose wisely!" Gary advised.
"Works for me!" Ash flashed Leaf a light smirk while his hand reached for his belt.
"Then by all means let the battle begin!" Gary flashed a playful smirk while performing a mocking bow.
"Squirtle, I choose you!"
"Let's go, Poliwrath!"
"Squirtle, squirt squirt!" Squirtle cheerfully cried out while performing a brief pose upon emerging from his Pokeball.
"Poliwrath!" The muscular Water type leered down at Squirtle but the Kanto starter gazed upwards with a determined gaze.
"Dynamic Punch!" Leaf cried out.
"Poli!" A blue aura engulfed Poliwrath's fist as he shot forward, his fist pulled back as he took a swing at Squirtle! "Poliwrath!"
"Squirtle!" Squirtle cried out as the attack sent him flying through the air, he grunted out as his back crashed against the ground before swiftly hopping back to his feet in order to perform a light glare at his opponent. "Squirt!"
Ash stared at Leaf's Poliwrath for a moment, there was a fairly good chance that it had the Water Absorb ability so it'd be foolish to use a Water type attack against it. Fortunately for them, Squirtle had some attacks that weren't Water based. "Use Skull Bash!"
"Squirt!" Squirtle lowered his head before charging at his opponent, bashing his skull directly against Poliwrath's chest!
"P-Poli!" Poliwrath's arms flailed about as he struggled to keep balance, almost falling onto his back had he not managed to catch himself at the last second. "Wrath!"
"Earth Power!" Leaf excitedly cried out.
"Wrath!" Poliwrath slammed his fist against the ground causing golden cracks to form along the ground, the cracks raced along the battlefield before bursting from the ground upon reaching Squirtle's feet.
"Squirt!" Squirtle grunted out as the attack pushed him back a few feet.
"Hang in there Squirtle, you've got this! Use Ice Beam!"
"Squirtle squirt!" A beam of ice shot from Squirtle's mouth and struck Poliwrath's feet, freezing them solid!
"W-Wrath!" Poliwrath grunted out while trying to free himself from the ice.
Leaf clenched her fists while offering Ash a light smirk. "That won't stop us, you may not be able to use Water attacks but we aren't! Poliwrath use Hydro Pump!"
"Wrath!" A massive geyser of water erupted from Poliwrath's body and shot off across the field as the attack made it's way towards Squirtle.
"Launch yourself into the air with Hydro Pump!" Ash shouted out.
"Squirtle!" Squirtle aimed towards the ground beneath his feet while another geyser burst from his own mouth, the force of the water sent him flying up into the air allowing him to evade Poliwrath's attack!
"Heh." Gary smirked.
"Now finish it with Skull Bash!"
"Squirtle..." Squirtle lowered his head as he launched himself from his attack, the turtle Pokemon flew through the air in a downward descent before making direct contact with Poliwrath's chest!
"Poli!" Poliwrath grunted out as the air was knocked out of his chest, the muscular Water type stared his opponent down while heavy breath emitted from his throat before eventually falling onto his back as swirls formed within his eyes. "Wrath..."
"Alright Squirtle, you did it!"
"Pi Pikachu!"
"Squirtle Squirtle!" Squirtle posed while offering his trainer a bright smile.
"Poliwrath return!" Leaf frowned for a brief second as she placed Poliwrath's ball back upon her belt. Her cheerful smile soon returned as she enlarged a Great Ball before hurling it forward. "Let's go, Kangaskhan!"
"Kangaskhan!" The Kanto kangaroo cried out.
'First a Lure Ball then a Great Ball? It looks like Zach's not the only one that uses different variations of Pokeballs.' Marnie thought to herself.
"Alright Squirtle there's no holding us back this time, use Hydro Pump!"
"Squirt!"
"Sucker Punch." Leaf smirked.
"Kanga!" Before Squirtle could even fire the attack, Kangaskhan swiftly came up behind him before performing a powerful blow to the back of his head!
"Squirt..." Squirtle grunted out as he fell onto his side, swirls formed within his eyes.
"Squirtle!" Ash cried out.
"Squirtle is unable to continue battling!" Gary declared.
"Squirtle return, you were great out there and deserve a rest." Ash returned Squirtle to his ball and took a deep breath before throwing another ball forward. "Bulbasaur, I choose you!"
"Bulba, Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur cried out upon emerging from his ball.
Leaf gave Ash a questioning look while Gary snapped his fingers. 'He's using his Kanto team!'
"Use Solar Beam!"
"Bulbasaur!" Just like Ash expected, the Solar Beam fired directly from Bulbasaur's bulb without having to charge up as a result of Alola's warm climate. The blast of solar energy shot across the field and blasted Kangaskhan, knocking her back.
"Kanga..." Kangaskhan grunted out.
"Fire Punch!" Leaf smirked.
"Kanga!" Kangaskhan roared out as hot fiery flames engulfed her fists. She raced across the field before slamming her fiery fist against Bulbasaur's bulb causing him to cry out.
"Bulba!"
Ash gritted his teeth. Had he known Leaf's Kangaskhan knew Fire Punch he'd likely have chosen somebody else but he had faith that Bulbasaur could pull through this.
"Magical Leaf!"
"Bulba!" Multiple glowing green leaves flew out of his bulb and began spiraling towards his opponent before making contact with her body. Kangaskhan gritted her teeth before forming a light smirk as she stared Bulbasaur down.
"Fire Punch one more time!"
"Counter with Solar Beam!"
"Bulba... saur!" Another beam of solar energy erupted from Bulbasaur's bulb and fired towards Kangaskhan as she raced towards him with another fiery fist. Kangaskhan gritted her teeth and forced herself to continue until she was about to deliver a fiery blow to Bulbasaur's backside with her promptly falling to the ground shortly afterwards.
"B-Bulba..." Bulbasaur grunted out but remained on his feet much to Leaf's surprise.
"Huh?"
"Alright Bulbasaur!" Marnie cheered.
"Bulba, Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur beamed.
"Heh, I see Bulbasaur's gotten stronger as well!" Gary smirked. "Leaf's Kangaskhan is a Pokemon most trainers struggle with taking down."
"Yeah well we'll see if his luck carries over to the next round," Leaf offered Ash a challenging look while reaching for a Nest Ball. "Let's go, Tangrowth!"
"Tangrowth!" The large vine Pokemon cried out as he burst onto the battlefield, towering over his opponent.
"Bulba..."
"Poison Powder!" Ash shouted out.
"Saur!" Venomous purple colored dust burst from Bulbasaur's bulb and spread across the battlefield, sprinkling down upon Tangrowth's body.
"T-Tangrowth..." Tangrowth groaned out while a faint purple tint became visible from within his vines.
"Power Whip!" Leaf cried out.
"Growth!" Tangrowth's vines began extending allowing his arms to have a greater reach. Tangrowth slammed his fists down against Bulbasaur's body, smacking the smaller Grass type across the face!
"B-Bulba..." Bulbasaur grunted out before collapsing onto his side as swirls formed within his eyes.
"Bulbasaur return, you were great out there today and deserve a long rest. We'll pick up from here." Ash smiled at the Pokeball before placing it back upon his belt as he reached for another. "Alright Pidgeot, I choose you!"
"Coooo!" Pidgeot cooed out as he emerged from his ball.
"Use Hurricane!" Ash shouted out.
"Cooo!" Pidgeot began rapidly flapping his wings, summoning up a powerful gust of wind that swept Tangrowth off his feet.
"T-Tan!" Tangrowth's arms and legs flailed about as he flew through the air before falling down against the ground below with a loud heavy thud! "Tangrowth..." Tangrowth grunted out while slowly raising back to his feet.
"Ancient Power!" Leaf cried out.
"Growth!" A silver colored energy orb formed between Tangrowth's arms before firing off into the air, the orb soared through the air before clipping Pidgeot's wing causing the bird to cry out as he was knocked out of the air but fortunately Pidgeot managed to correct himself before he could hit the ground below.
"Alright Pidgeot let's use Brave Bird!"
"Cooo!" A bright orange aura engulfed Pidgeot's body as he soared through the air before slamming into his opponent's body! Tangrowth grunted out as the powerful force almost knocked him over but he managed to keep himself on his feet.
"Use Ancient Power!" Leaf cried out.
"Growth!" Another silver energy orb shot into the air, quickly making it's way towards Pidgeot before making direct contact with his chest!
"C-Coooo!" Pidgeot gasped out as the air left his lungs, sweat poured down his face as he began tiring out but a determined expression swept his gaze while his eyes locked onto his opponent. "Coo..."
"Alright Pidgeot, that's the spirit! Let's finish things off with Aerial Ace!" Ash excitedly cried out while clenching his fists.
"Cooo!" A blue blur surrounded Pidgeot's body as he swiftly flew across the field however before he could even make contact with him, Tangrowth dropped to the ground as the poison finished him off!
"Growth..." Tangrowth groaned as swirls formed within his eyes.
"Tangrowth is unable to continue, that leaves Leaf with three Pokemon to Ash's four Pokemon!" Gary declared.
"Alright Pidgeot, that was-"
"Coooo..." Pidgeot promptly dropped from exhaustion, swirls formed within his eyes.
"Pidgeot is unable to battle, that evens the two of you out to three Pokemon each!"
Ash and Pikachu sweated lightly before Ash returned Pidgeot to his ball. "Enjoy your rest, Pidgeot. You earned it!"
"Pika!"
"Tangrowth return," Leaf's eyes fixated upon Pikachu as she reached for another ball. "Let's go, Nidoqueen!"
"Primeape, I choose you!"
"Primeape!" Primeape lashed out at the air as he burst from his Pokeball. Nidoqueen burst out and uttered out a light grunt while crossing her arms as she stared her opponent down.
"Stomping Tantrum!" Ash shouted out.
"Ape!" Primeape angrily cried out, his foot slammed against the ground causing a massive chunk to splint up. Primeape swiftly took hold of the earth shard before hurling it across the field, the chunk smacked directly against Nidoqueen's forehead causing miniature Torchic to spiral around her head for a moment.
"Queen..."
"Sludge Wave!" Leaf swiftly countered.
"Nidoqueen!" A massive wave of purple sludge swept across the battlefield, knocking Primeape off his feet!
"Ape!" Primeape gasped out as he collapsed onto his back. The feisty monkey was quick to spring back to his feet with an enraged expression as he violently lashed out at the air. "Primeape!"
"Huh, Primeape's ability is clearly Anger Point but he doesn't appear to have taken a critical hit." Gary stroked his chin while watching Primeape's behavior. "If I were to guess, Primeape's simply got anger issues and found a way to use it to his advantage in battle."
Leaf gritted her teeth. "Superpower!"
"Queen!" An orange aura surrounded Nidoqueen's body as she lashed out at Primeape, attempting to strike his body.
"Counter with Outrage!" Ash shouted out.
"Ape!" A red aura flared around Primeape's body while his eyes shot dark red. Primeape violently lashed out and stopped Nidoqueen in her tracks by delivering a powerful blow to her stomach!
"Nidoqueen..." Nidoqueen gasped out for air before another fist struck her across the face, another fist lashed out and struck her face from the opposite direction causing her to fly across the field before landing in a defeated heap in front of her trainer while Primeape was left steaming in front of his trainer.
"Ape... Primeape!" Primeape heavily breathed from anger, not showing the slightest hint of fatigue.
"Way to go Primeape, that was amazing!" Ash cheered.
"Pika pi!"
"Primeape..."
"Blimey, Primeape took out Nidoqueen with relative ease!" Marnie gasped out.
"Morpek..." Morpeko gasped.
Leaf's eyes widened as she quietly returned Nidoqueen to her ball. "Well Ash, you've forced my hand. I have no choice but to unleash my own wildcard now! Let's go, Wigglytuff!" She cried while tossing a Love Ball into the air.
"Wigglytuff!" The Fairy Pokemon cried out upon emerging from her ball.
Ash tensed up for a brief moment as he recalled Wigglytuff besting Grimsley's Hydreigon with relative ease. "Close Combat!"
"Ape!" Primeape flew across the battlefield before unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks at his opponent from a close distance.
"T-Tuff..." Wigglytuff grunted out but remained firmly standing on her feet.
"Play Rough!" Leaf swiftly ordered out.
"Wiggly!" Wigglytuff flashed a playful smirk as she sprung into the air before falling down upon Primeape, a thick cloud of dust surrounded the pair as punches and kicks could be heard within the dust cloud before Primeape's body was sent flying out of it!
"Primeaaaape!" Primeape cried as he flew through the air before faceplanting against the battlefield floor, his body went limp as a defeated groan escaped from his lip.
"Primeape is unable to continue battling, Ash and Leaf are both down to their final two Pokemon!" Gary exclaimed.
"Primeape return, you did an amazing job and deserve a long rest." Ash returned Primeape to his ball before nodding towards Pikachu. "Alright Pikachu, I choose you!"
"Pika!" Pikachu flicked his tail as he sprang from Ash's shoulder.
"Use Thunderbolt!"
"Pikaaachuuuu!" Pikachu's cheeks charged up before a powerful electric bolt fired out, the bolt soared through the air before making contact with Wigglytuff giving her quite the electrical shock!
"Wigglytuff!" Wigglytuff screeched out.
"Rollout!" Leaf swiftly ordered.
"Tuff!" Wigglytuff curled into a ball and began rolling towards Pikachu before flattening him against the ground.
"Chaaaa!" Pikachu cried out, briefly resembling a pancake before springing back to his feet.
"She can't hit us if we change the battlefield, use Iron Tail on the ground!" Ash ordered out.
"Pikaa!" The silver glow returned to Pikachu's tail as he lashed at the ground causing a chunk to splinter up and form a large ramp.
Leaf clenched her fists however she had no choice but to use Rollout as Wigglytuff was stuck in the attack until she missed. Wigglytuff curled back into a ball and rolled towards the ramp causing her to get launched into the air above before disappearing into the sky above as a light twinkle could be seen.
Ash and the others turned their heads upwards as they waited for Wigglytuff to return. Fire could be seen falling towards them as Wigglytuff fell back towards the ground below. "Wigglytuff!" She cried out as her curled up form crashed against Pikachu.
"Chaaaaa!" Pikachu cried out, it felt as if a meteor had just struck him!
"Tuff!" Wigglytuff uncurled herself and panted out as she caught her breath, had she not been curled up she'd likely have suffocated as she nearly exited the planet's atmosphere!
"Pikachu, you okay?"
"P-Pi!" Pikachu turned and gave his trainer a thumbs up.
"Then let's hit them with Volt Tackle!"
"Pika!" Golden electricity formed around Pikachu's body as he raced across the field. "Pika pika pika pika!" He chanted out before slamming against Wigglytuff's body, giving the Fairy type another electrical shock.
"W-Wiggly!" Wigglytuff cried out as electricity surged through her body.
"Play Rough!"
"Wiggly!" Wigglytuff sprang at her opponent, a thick cloud of dust surrounded the pair as Wigglytuff began repeatedly lashing out at her opponent. "Tuff, Wigglytuff!"
"Chaaaa!" Pikachu cried out from within the dust cloud.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!" Ash shouted out.
"Pikaaachuuuu!" Electricity flared from within the dust cloud allowing them to see Wigglytuff's outline as electricity surged through her body.
"Wigglytuff!" She cried out.
"Now finish things with Iron Tail!"
"Pika!" Pikachu's tail shined bright silver as he performed a powerful swing, knocking Wigglytuff off her feet and onto her back!
"Tuff..." Wigglytuff grunted out, swirls were visible within her eyes as the dust cleared up.
"Wigglytuff." Leaf sighed out while gazing towards the ground.
"Wigglytuff is unable to continue battling!" Gary announced.
"Wigglytuff return," Leaf swiftly returned Wigglytuff to her ball before locking eyes with Ash as her determined expression returned. "Alright Ash this one's been with me since the very beginning and she won't let me down easily! Let's go, Venusaur!" She cried while tossing a standard Pokeball into the air.
"Venusaur!" The ball burst open to reveal the fully evolved form of Bulbasaur. Leaf raised her right arm, revealing a Mega Ring which she swiftly activated causing a bright pink light to envelop Venusaur's body.
"Alright Venusaur, let's show Ash that he's not the only one with a powerful bond. Time to Mega Evolve!"
"Saur!" Venusaur cried out as the light faded away to reveal her Mega form!
"Solar Beam!" Leaf swiftly ordered out.
"Saur!" Venusaur fired off a beam of solar energy which shot across the field before exploding at Pikachu's feet, sending the electric mouse flying through the air before he landed in a collapsed heap in front of Ash's feet.
"Chaaaa!" Pikachu groaned out. Ash scooped Pikachu into his arms and carried him off the battlefield before placing him safely next to his feet.
"You were great out there, buddy. Now rest up and take a long rest, you earned it. Charizard will finish things from here."
"Pika." Pikachu faintly nodded.
"Charizard, I choose you!"
"Char!" Charizard shot a large stream of fire into the air upon emerging from his Pokeball. Ash then reached out and activated his own Mega Ring causing a bright pink glow to surround Charizard's body.
"Alright Charizard, time to Mega Evolve!"
"Char!" Charizard roared out as the pink light faded to reveal the form of Mega Charizard Y! Harsh sunlight began pouring down upon the battlefield upon his reveal.
"Use Flamethrower!"
"Charrrr!" Mega Charizard Y fired off a powerful stream of fire which caused Mega Venusaur to cry out as the flames made contact with her body.
Leaf lightly clenched her fists. Mega Venusaur's ability was Thick Fat but Mega Charizard Y's own ability canceled it out as Sunny Day allowed the Fire type attacks to provide the usual amount of damage, she was at an disadvantage but it wasn't time to give up!
"Sludge Bomb!" Leaf called out.
"Saur!" Mega Venusaur cried out while a large glob of sludge hurled from her mouth and flew across the field before splattering against Mega Charizard Y's body.
"Char..." Mega Charizard Y lightly grunted out.
"Hang in there Charizard, use Flare Blitz!"
"Char!" Fire engulfed Mega Charizard Y's body as he swept across the field before crashing into Mega Venusaur causing the Grass starter to grunt out as she was knocked back several feet. Mega Venusaur shook herself off before leering at her opponent.
"Return!" Leaf swiftly ordered out.
"Huh?" Ash blinked as he'd never heard of that attack before, trainers usually only said that when they were returning their Pokemon to their Pokeballs.
Gary smirked upon noticing Ash's confusion. "Return is an attack that grows stronger the deeper the connection one has with their Pokemon." He explained.
'I wonder how strong that attack would be if Pikachu learned it.' Ash thought while looking towards the electric mouse as he recovered from his injuries.
"Saur!" Golden energy surged around Mega Venusaur's body as she shot across the field before slamming into Mega Charizard Y, knocking the lizard onto his back! Mega Charizard Y faintly grunted out before slowly raising back to his feet.
"Blimey, that attack sure packed a punch!" Marnie gasped out.
Ash lightly clenched his fist before throwing out his arm. "Charizard use Flamethrower one more time!"
"Charrrr!" Mega Charizard Y roared out as a hot stream of fire poured from his throat, striking Mega Venusaur's body causing the Grass type to cry out as the fire ran across her body. Her eyes slowly rolled into her head as she collapsed against the battlefield floor, the pink light engulfed her body as she reverted back to normal while swirls became visible within her eyes.
"Saur..."
"Venusaur is unable to battle, that means this match goes to Ash and Charizard!" Gary exclaimed.
"Alright Charizard, way to go!" Ash cheered before hugging his Fire starter.
"Pika pi!" Pikachu cheered him on.
"Char!" Charizard shot a celebratory stream of fire into the air.
Leaf uttered out a light sigh before smiling as she returned Venusaur to his Pokeball. "You certainly have grown, I have no doubt that you'll be a Pokemon Master before long. Just don't get cocky and screw it up!" She playfully teased causing Ash to faintly sweat.
"Don't worry about that, I've learned that lesson plenty of times." Ash faintly chuckled.
"Pika..." Pikachu rubbed the back of his neck.
Leaf giggled out while Gary began making his approach, a steel chest sat within his arms.
"Well Ash, you did it! You managed to best my girlfriend in an official Battle Tree battle, meaning that you get to pick out a Mega Stone of your choosing!" Gary opened up the chest, revealing a large selection of Mega Stones! Ash could only stare at it in silence as he wasn't familiar enough with Mega Stones to determine what they were from a simple glance. Gary noticed Ash's confusion and playfully rolled his eyes. "If you can't tell the difference between them then no sweat, just tell me which Mega Stone you'd like and I'll pick it out for you!"
Ash gave Gary an appreciative look before looking thoughtful as his thoughts drifted towards the Mega Stones that he currently had within his possession. Latias, Gardevoir, Sceptile and Charizard had Mega Stones to call their own as did Gabite though he wasn't capable of using it yet. There were a few significant Pokemon that Ash had within his possession that could utilize the gimmick but only two were present for today's victory, one already had one to call his own so Ash felt it wouldn't be fair to obtain the other so soon. "I'd like Pidgeot's!"
Gary gave Ash a nod of approval before retrieving an orange Mega Stone. "This is Pidgeotite, I'll trust that you'll take good care of it."
"I sure will, I bet Pidgeot can't wait to try this out!" Ash excitedly shouted out, Pidgeot's ball lightly quivered proving Ash's statement to be correct.
"Nebby!" Lillie anxiously cried out as the ice finally crumbled away, freeing her from the icy prison.
Dulse shot a quick look around the area as he scanned the area with his helmet's sensor in an attempt to locate the energy that Ultra Beasts emitted but aside from Naganadel's presence, the entire island was clear of Ultra Beast aura! "Cosmog isn't here."
"You don't think those two got away with him do you?" Zossie questioned in a worrisome tone.
"There's only one way to be certain, I'll have to scan the entire region to see if-" Dulse started only to go quiet as Lillie's Rotom Phone rang out. "What sort of contraption is that?"
"It's my phone!" Lillie quickly reached into her pocket before retrieving her Rotom Phone. "H-Hello?"
"Lillie, it's Mallow! Nebby II is here on Akala Island, Heahea City to be precise. Where are you? We don't see you guys anywhere!"
"Heahea City?!" Lillie gasped out. Nebby must have escaped from the Team Rocket agents and teleported off to a safe location. "Stay there, I'm coming to get him!"
"No, we're coming to collect him. He is property of the Ultra Recon Squad!" Dulse swiftly retaliated.
"He is not your property, he's my friend!" Lillie fired back.
"That may be but Cosmog's our only hope, we don't stand a chance against Necrozma without him!" Zossie shouted out.
"N-Necrozma...?" Lillie's eyes widened as she recalled encountering the species. It wasn't a thing to be taken lightly.
"I see you're familiar with the creature." Dulse spoke. "Then you understand why we must take him?"
"I-I am but... what happened? I thought Necrozma was cured? Why is he attacking your people?" Lillie questioned.
"Because he's not in control!" Dulse exclaimed.
"Perhaps we ought to start from the beginning, Dulse." Zossie frowned. "It'll have her see reason I'm sure."
Dulse took a deep breath. "Very well, you see around a year ago our people found a human male that had been trapped in Ultra Space for quite some time. His hair had grown long, facial hair untamed... clothes a complete mess and he absolutely reeked! We took him back to our home world, Ultra Megalopolis to fix him up while determining which 'earth' is his earth."
"Hold up, there are other earths out there?" Lillie questioned.
"Belonging to other universes within the multiverse, yes. There are even other Ultra Megalopolis' out there too!" Zossie exclaimed.
"Your earth is referred to as earth one strangely enough." Dulse spoke.
"I'd like to visit earth two sometime, I heard it's quite blossomy!" Zossie beamed while glancing towards a certain direction.
"Huh? Who are you talking to..?" Lillie and Snowy followed her gaze but didn't see anything.
"Which is why we couldn't just send him back to a random earth, there could already be a version of him walking around. We had to find out where he belonged and send him back, however exposing a human to our technology was a mistake. His mind had already been lost and warped beyond repair, I imagine being trapped in Ultra Space for nearly two decades would do that. It's a miracle he even survived quite frankly. The stranger was smart enough to learn how our technology worked and quickly modified it, allowing him to fashion a suit that controlled Ultra Beasts with just a mere thought! The entire Naganadel population fell under his control as did Necrozma, my beloved Soliera attempted a bold maneuver with the aid of Lunala and Solgaleo in an attempt to put an end to his reign but unfortunately Necrozma absorbed Solgaleo and blasted Lunala and Soliera right out of the sky! Neither survived..." Dulse clenched his fists.
"I-I'm so sorry to hear that..." Lillie frowned.
"I don't need your sympathy, I need Cosmog. Without the aid of Lunala or Solgaleo, we don't stand a chance against Necrozma! Naganadel isn't enough to save our home world." Naganadel had been fortunate enough to not fall under the Beast King's grasp in the first place, Dulse wasn't sure why that was but he had a pretty good guess that it had to do with their bond. Naganadel would never harm him.
"Well if your people are in trouble then I'm sure that my friends will be willing to lend a hand!" Lillie piped up. "My brother and best friend are the strongest trainers in the region, and my best friend's currently traveling with two significantly strong trainers." Not to mention the fact that Kiawe was a Kahuna now and Lana often helped him train now that the pair were dating.
"I think we should take her up on that, Dulse. We've seen them go up against an Ultra Beast before, they were able to make quick work of them!" Zossie exclaimed.
Dulse stared towards the ground for a moment before looking up towards Lillie. "Alright but you must allow Cosmog to undergo a special training method, he's old enough and we can get him to become a powerful Lunala or Solgaleo within a matter of hours!"
"So long as it's not painful, I-I think I'll be okay with that." Lillie faintly smiled.
Zach, Dawn and Mallow sat within a HeaHea City diner as they patiently waited for Lillie's arrival. The three and their Pokemon were enjoying their food when Lucario suddenly tensed up and jerked his head towards the distance as a light growl emitted from his throat.
"Carr..."
"Hm? What's up?" Zach turned towards his best friend, wondering what upset him before a loud cry echoed throughout the city followed by a loud explosion.
"AHHHHH!" Mallow tensed up and turned pale upon hearing the familiar cry while outside the diner, people were pushing and shoving each other out of the way as they raced down the streets.
"First Fula City and now this?! We're getting a refund for those tickets!" An angry tourist shouted while pushing his way through the crowd. "I'm going to the Hoenn region where it's safe, that region's already gone through a crisis!"
"What's going on out there?" Dawn questioned while she and Zach rose from their seats.
"I-It's a Guzzlord!" Mallow shivered. "They're the strongest Ultra Beasts we know of and nearly unstoppable, nobody's ever managed to capture one. We've always had to push them through portals and send them back to their home world!"
"Well hopefully the other Ultra Guardians get here soon, until then I'm headed out there to try and stop it." Zach motioned towards his team. "Come on everyone, let's go!" Lucario, Cinderace, Garchomp, Empoleon, Umbreon and Zeraora swiftly ran after him.
"Hey wait up, you aren't going out there without me!" Dawn quickly sprang after him, worried that he'd get himself hurt again. Piplup, Lopunny, Typhlosion, Milotic, Ribombee and Lilligant followed after her.
Mallow watched the pair and glanced towards Tsareena with a light sigh before motioning with her hand. "Come on, we can't fall behind." 'I really got to catch more Pokemon.'
"Tsaree!" Tsareena swiftly nodded.
"Inferno Overdrive!"
"Hydro Vortex!"
"Bloom Doom!"
"Ace!" A massive ball for fire formed in front of Cinderace's body, the fiery rabbit sent it flying towards her opponent with a swift kick.
"Piplup!" A massive watery vortex formed around Piplup and spiraled around him before rocketing across the street where it soon crashed against Guzzlord.
"Tsareee!" A massive green energy beam erupted from Tsareena's body and shot across the street as it made it's way towards Guzzlord.
"Ahhh!" Guzzlord grunted out as the Z-Moves struck against his body.
"Alright, now's our chance!" Zach clenched his fists while enlarging a Beast Ball. "I always wanted to capture an alien!" 'Even if it's only for a few seconds.' He thought to himself while hurling the Beast Ball through the air, the Beast Ball began opening up as it made it's approach but Guzzlord swiftly lashed out with one of his arm pincers, the pincer swallowed the Beast Ball whole before burping out. "No sweat, May told me she caught her Munchlax this way. It should still work." Zach laughed while Dawn faintly sweated.
"Eh, I don't think so. Guzzlord digests things within seconds, how else would he be able to eat all of that?" Mallow pointed towards various chunks of buildings, billboards and even vehicles with the missing pieces having disappeared. "They eat pretty much anything they can find."
"So if he ate somebody then they're definitely not coming back." Zach gritted his teeth. "Zeraora use Plasma Fists, Lucario and Cinderace use Pyro Sphere, Umbreon use Dark Pulse, Empoleon use Steel Beam, Garchomp use Draco Meteor!"
"Piplup use Whirlpool, Typhlosion use Flamethrower, Lopunny use Solar Beam, Lilligant use Petal Blizzard, Milotic use Hydro Pump, Ribombee use Dazzling Gleam!" Dawn cried out.
"Tsareena use Trop Kick!" Mallow cried out.
Guzzlord grunted out as all thirteen of their Pokemon fired off their attacks but it wasn't enough. "Ahhhh!" The Ultra Beast leaped into the air before crashing down against his opponents, flattening them against the ground! Guzzlord then promptly stood up and walked away before resuming his work, revealing all thirteen of the Pokemon laying against the street with swirly eyes.
"Return!" Zach, Dawn and Mallow simultaneously shouted while recalling their Pokemon to their Pokeballs.
"So Dulse's people are in trouble?" Ash questioned as the group flew towards Akala Island. Ash, Marnie and Lillie rode atop Latias' back while Dulse and Zossie rode atop the shiny Naganadel. "Then we'll do whatever we can to help them out!" He had the slight suspicion that Solgaleo was the original Nebby but he'd help regardless of the fact!
"We appreciate it, Satoshi!" Zossie beamed.
"It's Ash actually." Ash sweated.
"Trouble ahead, Chosen One!" Latias piped up. "I sense an unusual and powerful aura ahead of us."
"Could it be another Ultra Beast?" Lillie questioned before the usual Ultra Guardian alarm blared off.
"Yep, it's an Ultra Beast." Marnie sweated.
"Then let's not waste any time, the others could be in danger!" Ash shouted upon noticing a Charizard and Vikavolt getting launched into the air by a powerful Dark Pulse attack.
Upon getting closer to the city Ash and the others noticed that a vast majority of it was in ruin, greatly resembling the alternate world that Ash once visited. Ash shivered lightly before looking around for his friends.
"Silvally!" Gladion cried out as Guzzlord launched the chimera Pokemon into the air, Lycanroc, Umbreon, Noivern and Zoroark laid in unconscious heaps alongside Gladion while Zach, Dawn, Mallow, Lana, Kiawe and Sophocles could only help escort people out of the city as their Pokemon had already fallen to the creature. Ash clenched his fists as he realized that this Guzzlord wasn't to be taken lightly. If all of them utilized Z-Moves like their deactivated Z-Rings suggested and Guzzlord was still stomping around then it was an insanely powerful Guzzlord!
"Dulse, it's power level is over 9,000!" Zossie cried out.
"What are you talking about? Level 100 is the max." Marnie narrowed her eyes.
"Our measurement is different than yours." Dulse casually explained. "Let me translate in terms you'll understand, he's at the maximum level that a Pokemon can reach!"
"Whoa!" Ash gasped out, sweat began pouring down his forehead as for a brief second he wondered if beating this thing was even possible! However his thoughts soon drifted towards the Tapunium that Tapu Koko had given him. Ash felt his pocket before pulling the Z-Crystal out and slapping it into his Z-Power Ring which he swiftly activated upon reaching the ground. "Latias, stand back!"
"Koko!" Upon activation Tapu Koko came racing onto the scene before he began moving in synch with Ash.
"Alright Tapu Koko, let's do this! Guardian of Alola!" Ash shouted out.
"TAPU!" Tapu Koko screeched out as a massive golden body formed beneath him while he retreated into his shell, acting as the headless being's head. The guardian lashed out and struck Guzzlord, knocking Guzzlord through an abandoned building! Guzzlord shook himself off before retaliating with a Dark Pulse which the guardian tanked like a champ before unleashing a swift kick, sending Guzzlord flying through the air and through another abandoned building.
"Ahhhh!" Guzzlord screeched out before racing towards his opponent.
"Quick Dulse, have Naganadel open a portal to Guzzlord's home world! Any of them will do!" Zossie shouted out.
"Right, Naganadel it's time!" Dulse shouted out.
"Naga!" The shiny Naganadel opened up a massive portal behind the guardian Pokemon. Tapu Koko sensed the portal's presence and grabbed a hold of Guzzlord's tentacle as the Ultra Beast raced towards him before forming a tight grip on it.
"KOKO!" Tapu Koko cried out as he swung Guzzlord around, hurling him directly into the portal!
"Ahhhhh!" Guzzlord cried out as he flew towards the portal, his body flew in but his tentacles remained behind. One was anchored into the ground while the other lashed out and nabbed Pikachu from Ash's shoulder.
"Pikaaaa!" Pikachu cried out as Guzzlord lost his grip on the ground causing Pikachu to be dragged through the portal along with the Ultra Beast!
"Pikachu!" Ash desperately raced towards his best friend, grabbing hold of Guzzlord's pincer before grunting out as he tried prying Pikachu loose.
"Ash!" Marnie cried out before the sounds of the world vanished as Ash and Pikachu were yanked through the portal which closed up shortly after.
"No!" Gladion growled out.
"Master!" Latias cried out.
"Oh Arceus!" Lillie gasped out while tears fell from her eyes.
"This isn't good..." Dulse frowned.
"Finally!" Ash managed to pry Pikachu loose and let out an excited shout while pulling Pikachu close to his chest.
"Pika pika, pi!" Pikachu frantically cried out to Ash, alerting him to the situation that they were currently in. Ash noticed the air around him felt different and he began looking around to discover he was floating aimlessly through Ultra Space with Pikachu in his arms! Ash let out a panicked sound, looking towards a nearby portal and seeing Guzzlord made it back to it's own planet causing him to breath out a sigh of relief before turning around to try and find a portal back to his own. It didn't take too long before he'd come across a portal that looked remarkably just like Kalos, it was a huge gamble on rather or not it was his earth but he figured it was better than simply floating through space for potentially ever or at least until he ran out of oxygen. He looked down at Pikachu with a questioning look and the electrical mouse nodded before they launched themselves through it. If it wasn't their world then hopefully that world's Wicke or Clemont could send them back!
"Ugh, where am I?" Ash rubbed the back of his head upon hitting solid dirt, oxygen slowly returned to his lungs. "Are we in Lumiose City?" Ash opened his eyes only to discover that he sat on the remains of what appeared to be Lumiose Tower! He let out an alarmed gasp before leaping off of it and casting a quick glance around, Lumiose City appeared to be massive piles of rubble as far as the eye could see!
"What happened here?!"
"You happened!"
"Excuse me?!" Ash turned around and saw a bizarre version of one of his companions, possibly even two different companions? A version of Marnie with an eyepatch over her right eye and a robotic arm attached to the left side of her body stood across from him. And to her right stood somebody dressed up in a mask and body armor that resembled a Lucario, almost like Blaziken Mask but more advanced. A long scar could be seen coming down the right side of his face or at least the mouth area as that was the only part visible to Ash on account of everything else being behind a mask. There were a jackal and rabbit shaped skull on the man's armor with RIP painted on right above the two, the voice was all it took for Ash to know it was Zach under there.
"Don't play stupid, you killed my best friends! I'd know your aura anywhere!" Zach growled out. "And you murdered her brother!"
"I-I did?!" Ash stood in shock, wondering just what crazy dimension he landed upon but didn't have time to question it as Marnie released a Tyranitar while Zach released a Charizard before the two activated their Mega forms, turning them into Mega Tyranitar and Charizard X respectively.
"And now it's pay back time!" Marnie snarled out out. Along with seeming radically different both looks and personality wise these versions of his companions seemed stronger too as Ash could sense immense power coming off of the Mega Pokemon! No doubt he was in for the fight of his life.
Return never appeared in the anime so that's why Ash didn't know what it was. I thought it'd be cool if Leaf and Ash used their respective Kanto team's against each other so that's why the battle went the way it did, that and Bulbasaur/Squirtle needed some focus. And now Pidgeot has a Mega form!
I debated giving the earths fancier numbering before deciding to go with earth one and earth two. Legends Reborn is earth one, the 'main' earth. While Electric Blossom/Delta Emerald are set on earth two.
For alternate Zach/Marnie, I thought it'd be cool to give them Pokemon their counterparts don't use. Like I'd probably never give Zach a Charizard in an actual story haha
