AN: Alright guys, just to let you know this is going to be one of those "Minor" stories I've told you about. As I've stated in my Status Update, these kinds of stories will be on my DeviantArt account (xXAgentWashingtonXx) but I'm posting the first chapter here as something of a teaser. And who knows? Maybe it'll go up on this site if things go well. Anyways, it's Showtime!
Quick heads up, this chapter contains heavy spoilers from the Fuuka manga series and TWEWY game. If you don't want any spoilers, leave now. You've been warned…
Disclaimer: I do not own Fuuka or The World Ends with You
Chapter 1: The First Day
It was an ordinary day in the city of Tokyo, Japan. People buzzing around, minding their own business with talking of various things. Meanwhile on a sidewalk, a young teenage girl was running past everyone. She had an excited look on her face with a bright smile to match her feelings.
She had light skin, short blue hair, and blue eyes with a set of headphones adorning her head. She was wearing a red plaid scarf, a gray long-sleeved sweater, a blue plaid skirt, and black boots that went up to her knees. And strapped around her shoulder was a purse. This girl's name was Fuuka Akitsuki and to her, everything was right in the world.
A long time ago, she's been inspired to make music which was one of things she absolutely loved. She even "sees" the colors and feelings of songs and music. To express her love of music, she formed a band with four other people, naming it Fallen Moon.
The band consisted of her as the vocalist, Makoto Mikasa the keyboardist, Kazuya Nachi who is the drummer and school's track team member, Sara Iwami the guitarist, and last but not least, Yuu Haruna the bass player who not only inspired her but also became Fuuka's boyfriend.
Yuu gave Fuuka the idea to form this band and the two bonded a bit before that, a lot more after. Right now, Fuuka was on her way to one of her band's major debut concerts in a night club. She didn't want to be late so she ran as fast as she can.
She was now crossing the crosswalk intersection before noticing a keychain fall off her cellphone strap. Fuuka noticed this and ran back for it before picking it up. She smiled before resuming her path. She then stopped upon hearing something. She turned to her left and saw…an oncoming truck inches away from her and it didn't seem set on stopping.
Fuuka didn't have enough time to react before everything went black for her.
(Elsewhere)
Inside a dark lounge, there were three people talking to each other.
"Looks like the Game is starting again." A voice said, sounding rough and brutish. "Can't wait to see how the others will do this week! I'm eager to earn bonus points!"
"Calm down now, dear." A female voice said, sounding polite and elegant. "I'm more interested in those that can advance in the rounds. It's like finding a rare fruit."
"You can keep your fruits and points. What I want to know is how can someone like 'him' play dumb and think he couldn't get away from this." A young male voice said.
Meanwhile outside, on top of a building, a young man was standing and looking over the city. He had ash-blond hair and lavender-colored eyes. He was wearing a light grey button-down shirt, with a fairly exposed neck and collar. He was also wearing dark grey pants and plain white shoes with black laces. This young man had many names…but for now, he preferred the name Joshua.
Joshua had a lollipop in his mouth before noticing something out into the distance. He threw out the lollipop and smiled.
"Well, well…looks like we're going to have a busy week." Joshua remarked before noticing something behind him. He just smirked as he allowed himself to fall off the roof he was on.
(Somewhere else)
Fuuka started stirring before she opened her eyes, she found himself on the floor of a crosswalk. She looked around to see people minding themselves before noticing something else. She recognized the place she was in the famous Scramble Crossing of Shibuya, a special ward in Tokyo.
Fuuka just looked confused as she didn't recall being in Shibuya before…
"!" Immediately, Fuuka got up and inspected herself as her last memory was a truck coming to end her life. So far, everything looked in order and there was no blood anywhere around here.
'But that can't be…I remember the truck…aren't I supposed to be dead?' Fuuka wondered before feeling something in her hand. She opened it, revealing the keychain…and a black pin with a white skull-like design on it.
"A pin?" Fuuka wondered as she placed the keychain away. "I don't remember owning this." She said before flipping it.
Just then she suddenly started hearing voices flew from the air and enter her ears, despite wearing headphones.
"Where's Kyoji!? I asked him to come here by ten and it's almost noon! He totally owes me a bowl of ramen now!"
"I gotta remember to drop Lucy off at the daycare, hopefully the other dogs will like her."
"Need to remember to buy the latest Koyuki CD!"
Soon the voices stopped and Fuuka's eyes widened in shock.
"W-What was that!?" Fuuka said before looking at the abnormal pin. "What is this!?"
She then tried again after taking her headphones off to make sure she was hearing this with her own two ears.
"Oh my god, I'm going to be late! Sensei is going to kill me now!"
"This new sweater is itchy! I need to change out of this in the restroom."
"I'm totally going to get high score in the karaoke lounge tonight!"
The voices stopped again and Fuuka now realized she was hearing people's thoughts. This pin was allowing her to read minds.
"W-Why do I have something like this?" Fuuka wondered, trying to remain calm. Just then…
BEEP! BEEP!
Fuuka noticed that tone as her ring tone. She quickly pulled out her phone and read the new text given to her.
"'Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. Fail, and face erasure. –The Reapers'." Fuuka read before gaining a slightly irritated look. "What? Is this supposed to a prank text? Not even gonna bother."
She deleted the text before…
BEEP! BEEP!
The same text appeared again.
"What the?" Fuuka tried again but…
BEEP! BEEP!
The text reappeared almost instantaneously.
"Okay great, I've had a near-death experience, a magical pin that lets me read minds, and now I have a text message from Hell. How can this day get any weirder?" Fuuka mused before thinking of resuming her path to the nightclub and pretend everything is normal before…
STING!
"OW!" Fuuka said as she felt a stinging pain in her right palm. "Did something just bit me?"
Fuuka then opened her palm to see…a timer which was counting down from 60:00. Now 59:59, 59:58, etc. Fuuka's eyes once again widened in shock as she now thinking she was having a dream.
Just then a sudden, whirring, synthetic sound grabbed her attention. The blue-haired girl looked up to see strange graffiti-like symbols floating in the air. The symbols then slowly transformed into weird, frog-like monsters.
Fuuka gasped before the monsters landed in front of her. She tried to remain calm despite the fact that they were eyeing her.
"Heh…good froggie, nice froggie…" Fuuka said, trying to appease the monster as she took a couple steps back. Just then one of them pounced on Fuuka and bit her. "Ow!"
She shook the creature off before noticing more of its brethren.
"Damn it, help!" Fuuka shouted but it seemed that no one noticed her. Now that she thought about it, she noticed that a lot of people around her didn't even notice the symbols or the symbols transforming into these monsters. Her train of thought was cut off as she saw the frog-like monsters getting near her. "Track don't fail me now!"
She then turned and sprinted for her life, putting all that training her parents gave her to use. She kept running as fast as she could while avoiding everyone in her way. As she was running, she noticed that no one was not even noticing her but also the monsters that were attacking. Her thoughts were cut off, upon noticing someone in her way.
"Look out!" Fuuka said as she was about to collide with someone. Then to her shock, she actually went through her mid-collision. She was only shocked for few seconds before remembering why she was running. So, she continued running until she was out of breath and stopped in a less crowded area with a large statue of a dog called Hachiko.
Memories hit her as she remembered having a small date of Yuu to watch a movie with her idol Koyuki Hinashi's song serving as the main theme. Fuuka would scream to Yuu how she was here with the statue when they couldn't find each other. Memory lane stopped for Fuuka as she then noticed the creatures attacking certain people, causing them to vanish.
"W-What!? Why are they disappearing!?" Fuuka wondered aloud before the creatures started to notice and swarm her. She started crying from fear since if she wasn't sure the truck killed her, these monsters will. The place where she started her first date will now be where she died for sure.
One frog-like monster pounced on her before…
"Found one!" A male voice said as Fuuka noticed a figure kicking the pouncing frog away. He landed in front of her, giving Fuuka a closer look at him.
He had a short-sleeved zipped-up black jacket with a high collar, black fingerless gloves, dark blue jeans, and dark gray converses. He had light skin, brown eyes, and short brown hair. He also seemed to be around Fuuka's age.
"Listen, you need to forge a Pact with me!" The boy said, offering his hand.
Fuuka just looked confused. She had no idea who this guy is or what's going on. And right now, what he's saying isn't making sense to her.
"A Pact?" Fuuka said before shaking her head. "Look we have a lot of other things to worry about!"
"Listen! If we forge a Pact, we can beat the Noise!" The young man said, making Fuuka more confused.
"Noise!?"
"Those things are called Noise!" The guy said, pointing at the frog creatures that are now starting to swarm the two. "And if we don't forge a Pact, these things are going to erase us! Hurry!"
Fuuka sweated with nervousness as she had few options; either work with a guy she never met or allow these Noise to kill or erase her. Fuuka then accepted his hand.
"Fine! DEAL!" Fuuka said before a burst of white light shot from where their hands connected while the guy helped Fuuka up. Soon the light faded. "What was that light show?" Fuuka asked in shock and awe before the guy noticed the Noise about to attack.
"Tell you what; we survive the day, I'll play Twenty Questions with you for as long as you like! For now, take this!" The guy said before grabbing Fuuka's hand and giving her something.
Fuuka took her hand back to see that it was a red pin with a huge orange flame decal on it.
"Use this to fight the Noise!" The young man said, making Fuuka even more confused. How was she supposed to fight with only an accessory?
Before Fuuka can say anything, the young man took out a pin with a katana on it before pressing his thumb against it, making it glow. It then transformed into an actual katana before the young man charged and sliced through a couple of the Noise. This obviously made Fuuka believe that her recently acquired pin can do something like that.
She started shaking her hand, hoping it would do something before a Noise tried to tackle her. Fuuka instinctively tried to block it with her free arm…before her hand on it shot fire, destroying the Noise in an instant.
"E-Eh?" Fuuka looked at her free hand to see that it was on fire but it didn't hurt. She noticed her comrade slicing down a few of the Noise before more appeared from behind. Fuuka shot a fireball at them, incinerating them instantly.
The guy turned to see her.
"You okay?" He asked, making her nod before the two focused on the rest of the Noise.
The guy cut through the Noise like it was nothing while Fuuka blasted the rest with smithereens with her newly-acquired fire powers. Soon, there was no more enemies left.
The two used this chance to take a breather while the guy transformed his katana back into a pin and Fuuka dismissed her fire and placed her pin in her pocket instead of her bag. The two walked up to each other while the guy smiled.
"Not bad using that pin. You must be really good at Psychs. Guess you're my Partner now." He stated while Fuuka was still trying to calm down. She had to admit that all this fighting made her a bit winded but she soon managed to quickly relax.
"Psyches? Is it that thing I've done with the fire?" Fuuka asked, making the guy nod.
"That's right. There other pins that give you different Psyches." He explained. "Anyways, where's my manners? My name is Subaru Akiyama. You?"
"F-Fuuka Akitsuki."
"Well Fuuka, looks like you and I are Partners now for the week. Let's make good work!" Subaru said before Fuuka remembered something.
"Hey, wait a minute! You promised me to answer my questions! Like how was I able to do that with the pins!? What is Noise!? How come everyone else can ignore us and them!? And what is this timer!?" Fuuka showed the timer on her hand.
Subaru looked at it to see that it was not counting down from 30:00, 29:59, etc.
"Shit! We have to get to the 104 building now!" Subaru said with a nervous look on his face, making Fuuka more confused.
"104?"
"Yeah, didn't you read the mission mail?" Subaru asked, making Fuuka remember the text she got earlier ago.
"You mean the text?"
"Yeah, we don't do the mission, we'll both be erased so let's go!" Subaru said and Fuuka hesitantly nodded, not wanting her efforts so far be for nothing. Her questions can wait…for now.
The two ran to the building with giant numbers of 104. The two were about to get there before Subaru bumped into an invisible wall.
"Ow…" Subaru said before inspecting it. "Damn it, no way through!"
As Subaru was looking for a way through the wall, Fuuka noticed a guy with a red hoodie seemingly guarding the place. He then noticed her and Fuuka noticed. She went to him.
"You a Player? Is that your partner?" He asked, pointing at Subaru.
"I-I guess, I made a Pact with him." Fuuka answered, making the red hooded guy nod in acknowledgement.
"Pact confirmed."
"Huh-?"
"Hey, it's gone!" Subaru said, getting Fuuka's attention.
"Really?" Fuuka said as she touched where the wall was supposed to be and felt nothing but thin air. She then looked at where the guy was, only to find him gone.
"We should move. Now." Subaru said, earning Fuuka's nod and reminding her that they were on a mission. The two ran for the building and when they made it, they felt a numbing sensation in their hands where the timer was. They looked to see that the timer was now gone.
"That was it? Seemed easy." Fuuka remarked.
"Yup but today was day one. Things are going to be harder from here on out." Subaru remarked, guessing that the Game was supposed a lot harder than it looks now. "Now then, I promised to answer your questions."
"Okay, what is going on and how did I get to Shibuya?" Fuuka asked with her arms crossed.
"Let's see…what's the last thing you remember?" Subaru asked back, making Fuuka take a trip again to memory lane.
"Well,,,I remember crossing the street, I dropped my keychain before going back to get it. I picked it up before trying to resume my path. Then I heard a noise; a truck was coming at me and then…it all became black. That was when I woke up here in Shibuya." Fuuka answered before realizing something; she should've been dead. "W-Wait! How come I wasn't killed by that truck!? How am I still here!?"
"You aren't going to like that answer." Subaru replied in a neutral tone, making Fuuka worried but she was determined to learn.
"Try me." Fuuka said with a stern look on her face and hardened voice.
"You DID die."
"…" Fuuka spent a while sinking those words in before… "Y-You're kidding me, right!? This is some kind of prank or I'm dreaming! T-That's it! I'm probably dreaming! I'm gonna wake up any second now!"
"You're not dreaming." Subaru said, trying to remain calm as he can obviously tell this girl was in denial.
"Any second, I'm going to wake up!" Fuuka said before closing her eyes and pinching herself. She then smiled. "There, I'm going to wake up…"
She then opened her eyes to see Subaru and the rest of Shibuya. Her smile then dropped down while she started to cry.
"T-This isn't a dream…then I'm really…" She was at a loss of words as they were replaced with tears and sobs. Fuuka then thought about her parents and little sister, how she left them grieving and all alone. She then thought about Fallen Moon, how she bonded and convinced each member to join her. She promised that together that they were going to make a new legend together, but now it's all for naught.
Fuuka then thought of Yuu which made her cry the most. It wasn't fair. The two had been through a lot ever since Yuu was first introduced in their class. And despite their rocky start, the two bonded and grew close to each other as they built Fallen Moon which was starting to grow popular. What makes matter worse for the blue-haired girl was that they had just started dating. This was certainly not fair. How can life be this cruel?
Subaru, feeling that he saw enough, went up to the girl.
"Fuuka, calm down. You still have a chance to make it back. To be revived." He explained.
"W-What do you mean?" Fuuka asked, sniffling and wiping her tears.
"The Reapers' Game is what we're doing now. The goal is to survive all 7 days' worth of missions. We'll be revived if we win." Subaru explained and Fuuka felt a small sense of hope.
"I-I can go back?" She asked as she made sure that there were no more tears coming.
"Only if we win." Subaru explained and Fuuka nodded, feeling a hardened resolve in her. She certainly wasn't going to waist this chance. That was when she remembered something.
"So, what was that light show all about?"
"Players are expected to find other Players and forge Pacts with them, making them Partners. That's what happened with you and me." Subaru explained as Fuuka listened before remembering what happened at the statue.
"So that means you and I are…?"
"Yup, Partners to the bitter end." Subaru answered as he nodded.
"So what happens now?" Fuuka asked as she wiped the last of her tears.
"We've done our mission for today. I suppose we can just chill and wait for the next one." Subaru explained before seeing Fuuka still looking a bit down.
She then looked at him and was about to say something before…
"Look!" Fuuka said, pointing behind him.
Subaru looked to see another Noise symbol but this one looked different. It then transformed into a different kind of creature, a gray grizzly bear that can stand on two legs with skeleton-like claws. This Noise was referred to as a Mosh Grizzly. It eyed the two Players before roaring at them.
"Kuso! Looks like this one isn't going to let us off that easy!" Subaru said as he took a defensive stance and took out his pin before using it summon his sword.
Fuuka was a bit intimidated due to how menacing the Mosh Grizzly compared to the frogs she was fighting. But then she remembered Subaru's explanation of the Game, she has to survive this kind of stuff for a whole week before she can be able to live her life again. She then saw Subaru charging but the bear-like Noise swatted him away.
Subaru landed hard on the ground before rolling a bit. When he stopped, he looked up to see the Mosh Grizzly about to charge but soon fireballs met the Noise's face, making it stop and turn its attention towards Fuuka whose hand was on fire again.
Subaru used this opportunity to grab his sword and slashed the Noise a few times, causing the monster to groan in pain. It tried to slash at Subaru but the latter dodged this time as Fuuka continued shooting fireballs.
The Mosh Grizzly tried to ignore the damage from the fireballs before grabbing Subaru and tossing him towards Fuuka. The two collided and were now on the ground from the impact. Fuuka opened her eyes and saw Subaru's face in her breasts.
For obvious reasons and that she had a boyfriend, Fuuka blushed and had an extremely annoyed look while Subaru was starting to recover.
"PERV!" Fuuka accused as she pushed Subaru off of her. Before Subaru can respond, they see the Mosh Grizzly looking over them before roaring. The two got out of the beast's way while Subaru continued staying close to slash the thing. Just then a green orb emerged from him and went to Fuuka.
Fuuka didn't know why but she had a feeling that green orb was important. She ran to it before touching and absorbing it. She felt revitalized and energetic as green energy surrounded her. Fuuka said nothing but focused as she started charging her fire.
Subaru noticed this and quickly moved out of the way, confusing the Mosh Grizzly.
"Take this!" Fuuka said as she launched a bigger fireball at the Noise. The Mosh Grizzly noticed this before the fireball collided with him, resulting in a good explosion. When the smoke faded, the beast was no longer there.
Subaru looked at Fuuka and transformed his sword back into a pin while Fuuka walked up to him.
"Look, about that-." Subaru started before an embarrassed and flustered Fuuka raised her finger and placed it against Subaru's lips, gesturing him to shut up.
"Not. One. Word." Fuuka warned. While she can accept that was an accident, she couldn't accept the fact that Subaru required a push to get off. She would've gotten away from him but he's her Partner and only fellow Player right here.
Subaru then nodded nervously while Fuuka noticed something on the ground where the Mosh Grizzly used to be. She walked towards the spot and picked up a new pin. It was gray and had the number 500 stylized. Fuuka placed it in her pocket since from what she learned, pins in this Game can mean life or death. "So what exactly are Noise?"
Subaru scratched the back of his head.
"Truth be told, you've got me. All I can gather is that they're monsters and that they also like to hunt Players like us so we have to exterminate them if we want to live and keep playing. Wouldn't surprise me if Reapers can control and send them just to hunt us." Subaru remarked as Fuuka nodded at the knowledge. He then stretched a bit. "You do know this is your fault, right?"
"What!? How is this my fault!?" Fuuka snapped as she was now mad again.
"You said that today, 'seemed easy' and then that Noise appeared and attacked us. You obviously jinxed us or something." Subaru said while Fuuka just whacked him on the head with her fist. "OW!"
"That is the dumbest thing I ever heard!" Fuuka snapped before taking a deep breath to calm down. "Look, can we just chill now? It's been a rough first day." She'd rather not deal with any more stress than she already has.
"Fine…" Subaru said as he rubbed his head. "I guess we can explore for a bit, given that we're going to be spending the whole week in this city."
Fuuka nodded as she pulled out the pin that the Noise dropped a little while ago.
"I wonder what this pin does." Fuuka thought out loud before placing it in her bag while Subaru noticed a figure watching them. It then vanished as Fuuka poked his back. "Is something wrong?" She asked.
"No, it's nothing…" Subaru said, not sure of who or what he saw. He wanted to check to be sure but being with his Partner was more important.
"So Subaru, you think we'll make it the whole week?"
"We will. I promise you that." He replied and Fuuka nodded with a small smile on her face, taking as much assurance as she can get. She had to give it her all if she wants to get back to her life.
They started walking around the city and enjoying the sights, well Fuuka was but that's only because she needed something to take her mind off all of this. She then placed her headphones back on and started playing her usual music.
'Mom…Dad…Haruka…Guys…Yuu…Just wait for me, I'll be back soon. I promise.' Fuuka thought as she thought about what her friends and family are doing now. Probably bawling their eyes out, finding out about the truck incident and mourning the corpse Fuuka left behind. She felt guilty for being so careless on the road and not noticing that truck coming. That guilt soon worsened as she thought more about it along with how it's going to affect everyone she knew. Fuuka then looked at Subaru, who was looking at something on his phone.
That was when curiosity hit her as she wondered how did Subaru died originally if the Game was supposed to be a chance at earning a second life. Subaru noticed his Partner's curious gaze.
"What?" He asked as he placed his phone away.
Just before Fuuka can respond, she then felt something rushing to her head before clenching it. Subaru noticed this and went to her with a concerned look.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked but Fuuka only responded by collapsing onto the ground with her vision going dark.
(In the longue)
"So how many Players completed the First Day?" The rough and brutish voice as he then stepped out of the shadows, revealing his figure. He was quite tall and with light brown skin. He had brown spiky hair, blue eyes, and a brown goatee. The wrinkles on his yellow-eyed face showed that he looked to be around the middle ages while outfit he adorned consisted of only a dark collared jacket which had its sleeves rolled up. The jacket was open, revealing a toned chest that was adorned with scars.
"Calm down, Shotaro. A lot of Players have managed to make it through the First Day." The female figure said and Shotaro only seemed to smile at that. "You're not disappointed?"
"And why would I?" Shotaro asked with an amused expression on his face. "Only the strong Players should be worth my time, otherwise there's no point in enjoying the Game or the points if I only get them out of the weak."
"I hope that you're not planning to do anything rash." The other male voice said, still sounding serious and business-like. "Don't forget what the GM has in store or what his mission is supposed to be."
"Yeah, yeah, you don't have to sweat it. I know the rules, but don't think I can't bend them." Shotaro said as he chuckled a bit. "Speaking of which, have you heard anything from the Conductor?"
"Not a word, he's too busy trying to maintain order in the Reaper community and trying to keep the mission a secret."
"I see…and the Composer?" The female voice asked.
"It's not wise to talk about him that much, but from what I can tell, the Composer has gone off to deal with some matters on his own."
"Really?"
"That's all I know. Even had to get a harsh 'reminder' from the Conductor himself. For now, we'll just focus on the Game."
(With Joshua)
Joshua was casually walking through the city of Shibuya and it looked like he didn't want to be noticed. He was now walking on Cat Street before noticing the entrance to coffee shop of WildKat Café. Joshua entered and noticed a man there.
He had black hair and a goatee. He wore a white shirt coupled with black vest and slacks. He adjusted his glasses before noticing Joshua and waving to him.
"Joshua, don't suppose I can offer you a cup of joe?" The man asked.
"Don't mind if I do Hanekoma, you wouldn't believe the morning I had." Joshua said as he took his seat.
"Try me." Hanekoma said.
"I saw HIM today."
"Him?" Hanekoma was slightly confused before adopting a surprised look on his face. "You mean-!?"
Joshua nodded.
"So what now? Are you going to try and confront him?"
"Don't get me wrong, I may be good but I suspect that he can be better. He had an otherworldly aura about him that can put me in quite a pickle." Joshua explained.
"That strong?"
"Must be, especially given his travels." He said as his cup of coffee arrived. He started drinking it.
"So what happens now then?"
"What's important is that we contain him in this area for now. Can't afford him escaping to learn anything else. And in the meantime, we need to find Players suited for this."
"You thinking about bringing Phones?"
Joshua shook his head before continuing sipping his coffee.
"While I'm open to using him as my proxy again, I have to respect his wishes and keep him out of a fight he didn't ask for. Same goes for the others."
"You sure? Phones is a special type of Player."
Joshua nodded.
"I'm sure but if I'm not mistaken…maybe Neku isn't the only special Player around this time."
Hanekoma said nothing as Joshua explained everything.
AN: Alright, there's the first chapter of a new story which I will be updating and posting on my DevianArt Account (xXAgentWashingtonXx).
I just started watching the Fuuka anime and I actually grew to like it so I've decided to go into the manga series. My heart just ached when I saw Truck-san take Fuuka away and ironically, this gave me the idea for this story especially since I just got back into TWEWY.
And I even managed to get the Fuuka category added here so have fun with that.
Anyways, you guys know the drill. Be sure to review or message me with questions or comments regarding the story. And don't be afraid to check out my other stories as well. Alright, I'm done, goodnight
