Disclaimer: This is something I've been wanting to do for a while now, write my own little moment for the Paw Patrol movie where Marshall comforts Chase. As much as I loved the movie, I think it could've really used a moment like this to establish Chase and Marshall's bond. I know the movie was mainly focused on Chase's relationship with Ryder, but if Skye can get a moment of comforting Chase, then I think it's only fair Marshall gets one too, even if it's from a fanfic. This one takes place on the same night Chase was struggling to sleep after the firework rescue.

Also, it's pretty obvious, but I don't own Paw Patrol.

Chase was currently struggling to sleep, as a nightmare was haunting his mind, and he couldn't stop squirming in his bed because of it. He eventually woke up, and the look on his face made it clear that he was still upset with himself for screwing up on the mission tonight. If he'd just remembered to disconnect his parachute then he wouldn't have needed saving. And he was the most experienced pup on the team, so he had no excuse. He ended up getting out of bed and walking off, which awoke and caught the attention of Chase's best pup friend on the team: Marshall. The one who saved him. He showed concern as he saw Chase slowly walk over down the steps that led to their sleeping area.

Chase walked over to the big window that showed Adventure City and looked with immense fear and discomfort in his eyes. He still hated the fact that he was back, and even though he was trying to adjust, he just couldn't shake the horrible memories of this place off of his mind. Liberty was already an indication to him that not everything would turn out sour for him, but it wasn't enough. He still couldn't help the urge to just let it all out and vent about how much he hated his past with this city.

It wasn't as if it was all bad. The Dachshund they met earlier today, Liberty, was a fun pup to be around, and was something of a light of hope for Chase that Adventure City was better than it was when he was abandoned. She was energetic and friendly, and also had a love for helping people like the Paw Patrol themselves did. It was a shame that it wasn't enough. Chase couldn't stop thinking of how awful his life was before he met Ryder, no matter how hard he tried. And he didn't want the people of this city to look down on him after his mistake today. They did try to support him, but Chase was worried that it was out of pity. He even felt that was why Ryder adopted him to begin with.

As Chase lowered his head, the Dalmatian fire pup was shown walking up to him, making sure not to trip and wake the others up as he sat down next to Chase. The German Shepherd was okay with this, since he knew Marshall would've wanted to help him no matter what. Marshall could tell how awful Chase felt about tonight, and that his memories in Adventure City weren't helping him in the slightest. He couldn't think of an appropriate joke for the situation either. He knew Chase would've taken anything he thought of the wrong way, and that it would've only made things worse.

The two best friends simply looked out the window that showed them Adventure City in all it's glory. Marshall was amazed at how grand it all looked compared to Adventure Bay. From the moment he stepped into the city, he knew that any rescue or adventure he had there was going to be massive. He knew he couldn't say the same for Chase though. Due to Chase's past with Adventure City, it only made sense that the German Shepherd was currently feeling uncomfortable there. Marshall couldn't say he would've felt any different if their positions were switched.

Marshall knew that he had to be there for Chase, and he didn't want to leave his side. As Chase looked out of the window in despondence, Marshall put a paw on his shoulder and caught Chase's attention completely. Chase looked at Marshall, who was giving him a genuine, comforting smile, letting him know that everything was going to be okay. The sight of this was enough to make Chase be grateful, but the added conflict he'd been having in Adventure City, being back and all, amplified that by one million.

Chase couldn't hold back his tears anymore. He simply started shedding tears as he then started crying. He managed to keep it quiet enough to avoid waking the others up, but Marshall still felt awful for him due to what he was going through. He offered Chase the hug he clearly needed as he gestured open arms, and Chase accepted as he laid his chin on the Dalmatian's right shoulder. Marshall knew that while Chase was currently working to improve his mental health, that he would need all of the help he could get in a steady recovery, and he was willing to give him as much support as possible.

The tears rolling down Marshall's back didn't stop him from patting Chase's back himself. He was too busy comforting his best friend to care about that. And he could feel that his comfort was helping. Chase was still struggling with his emotions regarding Adventure City, and that would later lead to him doing something shocking when he stops thinking straight. But for now, Marshall was able to give Chase the one thing he needed in that moment; something that made him smile, and reminded him that no matter how hard things got, he had a group of amazing friends, and a leader, who loved him. A moment of comfort.

A shoulder to cry on.
