This story is in correlation with my other two Teen Wolf stories, Awake and Alive and No One Else! The three intertwine with each other quite often but in different points of view, so I would recommend reading those as well so everything makes sense. I hope you enjoy!
TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of sexual abuse
"Again."
Sweat beaded down Delilah's face and she was struggling to not breathe so hard. It had been two days since she had been turned. Isaac refused to let her out of his sight. Because of this, Delilah hadn't returned to school just yet so she could get used to the change. She didn't go back home either. Not that she wanted to. And she had thrown her phone at the wall so she could get a new one and neither her mother or Lawrence couldn't track her down. She knew she couldn't hide from them forever and she didn't even want to think about what was going to happen when she finally did go back. So she was going to prolong it as much as she could.
To say the change had been interesting would be a huge overstatement. When she asked Derek for the bite, Delilah thought she would feel much more different than she was feeling. But compared the rest of the pack, she felt so… boring.
Take a look at Isaac and Erica, for example. They used to have some of the lowest self-esteem Delilah had ever seen besides in herself and now their confidence was over the top. Some would say they had become a little cocky, like they were hot shit. Isaac definitely had his moments where it could be too much but Delilah was able to bring him back down to earth when she needed to. It still made her happy to see that her love and even Erica be able to hold their heads up high and not take anyone's bullshit anymore. She was so proud of them.
However, Delilah couldn't say the same for herself. Despite her losing all of the scars that she carried on her body for years including the ones Lawrence had done recently, she really didn't feel much of a change in her confidence. She felt exactly the same. Her senses just seemed to be more heightened. Did something go wrong when she turned? She knew she was definitely a werewolf now, her claws and fangs were evidence of that. But other than that, she was the same ol' Delilah.
Except now she could smell unclean boy's restrooms from a mile away. It was not pleasant.
Adjusting the fingerless gloves that she usually used for color guard on her hands, Delilah had her eyes on Derek, who was waiting for her on the other side of the subway station. That was another thing that was strange. Derek insisted she had one on one training with him. Why? She didn't know. All he said was that she was on a different level than the rest of the betas. She wasn't sure what that meant but she'd be stupid to question her alpha. The only condition was that Isaac had to be at all of their training sessions so he could make sure Derek wasn't being too hard on his girlfriend. Derek was annoyed by the request but agreed to it anyway.
Delilah took a deep breath before crouching down. When she lifted her head up, she had a determined look on her face as if this was a game that she needed to win. She then started to sprint across the room and Derek did the same. She dove towards her alpha when she got closer but he slid underneath her, making her land in a somersault. After looking back at him, Delilah did a couple of back handsprings. When she landed, she kicked at Derek but he caught her foot and spun her up in the air. She ended up in a crouch and she swiped her foot at Derek's leg and he fell backwards.
Isaac was watching all of this go down as he leaned against a pillar with his arms crossed. The more he watched his girlfriend train, the more he was starting to open up to the idea of her being a werewolf. Of course he was still apprehensive and didn't want her being in danger, but he should figured that all of her dance and gymnastics training was going to be used to her benefit. He was beginning to have more confidence in her.
It was actually kinda hot watching her fight. She had always been strong physically and athletic so seeing her do her tricks and flips was amazing. Also she was so determined to do well and prove to everyone that she could be a great addition to the pack. Don't even get Isaac started on the fact that Delilah was only wearing a sports bra and leggings that highlighted her… assets in the most breathtaking way. And the way her skin glistened from the sweat running down her body…Isaac was one lucky werewolf.
This was the longest Delilah had lasted in this part of the session and she thought she might actually pass this time. But then when she side-kicked at him, Derek grabbed her ankle and twisted it, making her cry out. He then flipped her onto her stomach and he pressed his foot on her spine, but not hard enough to break it.
"Failed," Derek said for about the sixteenth time in the past hour.
He removed his foot off Delilah's back and she rolled over onto her back, coughing harshly as she did so. She propped herself onto her elbows.
"What am I doing wrong?" she asked, frustrated at the lesson, "I have been doing this same thing over and over again but you still won't give me any critiques or advice. All you're doing is just beating me up."
"Welcome to the life of a werewolf, Delilah," Derek said, "This isn't one of your dance lessons. The only advice you get is kill or be killed."
"That doesn't even make sense! How am I supposed to get any better if you're not telling me what I'm doing wrong?"
"Whining won't get you anywhere, that's for damn sure." Derek crouched down so he was at eye level with the brunette. "I'm not going to coddle you like a child. You're getting the same treatment as everyone else."
Delilah couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Yeah, because that's why I'm the only one here right now."
"You want me to praise you? Tell you that you're doing a good job? That's not how real life works, Delilah. You don't get a gold star for just showing up. You wanted this. So you need to stop being weak and feeling sorry for yourself when you mess up. You just gotta get back up and keep fighting."
"I am not weak," Delilah told him sternly.
"Really?" Derek scoffed. "Then why haven't your eyes change color yet?"
That Delilah didn't have an answer for. He had a point- her eyes have yet to turn into that golden yellow color everyone else had when they shifted. They just stayed green and no one really knew why. Not even Derek.
After realizing she had nothing else to say, Derek shook his head. "Maybe I was wrong about you." He got up and walked into the subway car.
Delilah groaned in defeat and flopped back onto the floor. She stayed there even when heard Isaac walk over to her and sit beside her. "He hates me."
Isaac chuckled. "He does not hate you. He clearly sees something in you that is special."
"Is that why he's being such a butthead?"
"A butthead?"
"Yes. I feel like that's a very accurate description."
She really was something else. Isaac laughed once again. "It's called tough love, baby. You'll see that he means well."
He stood up and reached his hand out to help Delilah up. She placed her hand in his but then a sneaky smile crept up on her face. She pulled Isaac down, catching him by surprise, and rolled them over so she was straddling him.
Isaac smirked at this unexpected but very welcomed position. "You know, if I had known that you were gonna be this dominating when you became a werewolf, I would've had Derek turn you a long time ago."
Delilah shook her head but laughed. "Oh, shut up." She lowered her chest down so it pressed against his as she kissed him. It became passionate very quickly as Isaac raked one of his hands in her light brown hair and the other traveling down her back to her-
"Ahem."
The young couple snapped their heads up to see Derek disapprovingly glare at them. Delilah quickly got off of Isaac and stood up and the blond followed suit.
"I don't remember this being a motel room," Derek said, voice laced with annoyance, "If you wanna go at it like a couple of rabbits, go somewhere else."
"Aw, come on Derek," Isaac teased as he spun Delilah around so her back was pressed against his front. He wrapped his arms around her. "You were young once. You don't remember what it was like to wanna show a little PDA with your girl?"
"No. Now get back over there. Let's run everything again, Delilah."
Before they could continue on with their lesson, they heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Erica had a tight grip on Jackson and when they finally got off the stairs, Isaac went over to them to grab his his other arm to get him to hold still.
Over these past two days, Delilah was filled in on everything that had been happening in the supernatural world. What had killed Isaac's father (she remembered them calling it a "kanima") had also killed a couple more people. It was also a shape-shifter, but not like a werewolf- it was more of a snake or lizard-looking type of creature. She also learned that it was very venomous and if you get nicked on the back your neck by it's claws, you'll become paralyzed from the neck down for a good couple of hours. They were still unclear on who was behind this monster, but Derek and his pack had one objective- kill it.
Just another typical day in Beacon Hills. Delilah wasn't sure how to feel about it.
But she decided to just stay off to the side and not really get involved. When Jackson saw her, however, he let out a chuckle.
"Oh, now they got you involved too, huh, Lambert?" he jeered, "At least you finally get to cut freely without anyone seeing the aftermath, isn't that right?"
"Shut up," Isaac snarled, tightening his grip on the rich kid's arm, "Don't you dare talk to her."
Derek was silent as he sat on a ledge and looked down at his hands. "What happened to you on the night of the full moon?"
"What?" Jackson asked incredulously, "Nothing. Nothing happened."
"You're lying." Derek picked up a pair of black latex gloves and slipped them on his hands. Jackson started to panic.
"No, wait. No, wait. I can- I can prove it." The alpha raised an eyebrow, waiting for an answer. "I taped myself."
This made even grumpy Derek crack a smile. Isaac started to laugh as well, but stopped when he saw that Jackson was being serious. "You taped yourself?"
"Yes. It was the full moon. And maybe while you were curled into the corner having an existential crisis about turning into a monster, I was preparing for the so-called gift your big bad alpha promised me. And what did I get? Nothing."
So Jackson got the bite as well. But then why wasn't he one of them? And was he having the same difficulties as Delilah? It was all so strange…
Jackson was breathing hard as he was struggling against the betas and getting angrier by the second. "You want proof? Let me get the video."
Derek pretended to think it over but then shook his head. "No." He picked up a large piece of broken glass that had some sort of clear goo on it. "No, I have a better idea."
"What is that?" Jackson asked in horror.
Instead of getting an answer, Isaac and Erica knocked Jackson down so he was now on his knees. Isaac gripped the bottom of his jaw to keep his mouth open. Derek slowly walked up to Jackson, eyes fixated on the glass in his hand.
"You know, Jackson, you've always been kind of a snake. And everyone knows a snake can't be poisoned by it's own venom."
Tilting the glass downwards, the werewolves watched as the venom slowly dripped down into Jackson's mouth. Isaac and Erica let go of Jackson and took a step back with Derek and Delilah so they could see that the venom wouldn't affect him and that he was definitely the kanima.
But it didn't work.
Jackson may have convulsed for the first few seconds, but then he became still. He became paralyzed. For some reason, Delilah pitied the boy. Yes, he was a colossal jerk who thinks the world should be handed to him on a silver platter, but seeing him just lay there frozen and scared… it hit Delilah differently.
She could feel herself start to tense up. Not paralyze necessarily, but pretty damn close. Her eyes glazed over as she was remembering the details of that night… her laying on the blood-stained sheets, unable to move herself… was that how Jackson was feeling right now? Unable to defend himself… wishing that he could scream for someone to come help him? It was way too overwhelming for her as she felt his pain and had flashbacks.
Isaac looked over at his girlfriend, who had a completely dazed look on her face. She wasn't making any movements. It almost seemed like she was hypnotized. So he took her hand and the sudden warmth and touch by her love seemed to snap Delilah out of her stupor. With a barely audible gasp, she looked up at her love. He silently asked if she was okay. Even though she was unsure herself, Delilah just nodded her head and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.
"You're still a snake, Jackson," Derek said when he realized his plan backfired, "just not the one we're looking for." He turned and walked back into the subway car.
While Jackson was still laying there, Isaac walked up to him and crouched down. "You're still gonna have to do one more thing for us." He looked back a Delilah with a sneaky smile, which made her tilt her head in confusion.
"Well, actually for me."
After Jackson's paralysis wore off and he was able to run out of the station the day before, Derek came to the conclusion that the kanima had to be Lydia. Apparently at the winter formal dance, the queen bee had been bitten by an alpha but was not showing any symptoms of being a werewolf. No one knew what she was until now. Or at least that's what Derek, Isaac, and Erica thought. Delilah didn't have anything to go off so she just stood to the side and went along with what they said, even though she had a funny feeling about the situation.
So that favor Isaac had mentioned ended up being Jackson talking to the police and telling them that he didn't see Isaac getting abused by his father. This meant that the boy was no longer a fugitive and was able to go back to school. Delilah also decided that she had missed enough days and to go with him and Erica. Besides, Isaac still wanted to keep an eye on her and make sure she was able to control herself if she felt the urge to shift.
Plus, Derek needed an extra set of hands to do this task- find out if Lydia was the kanima.
Isaac was already inside the school while Delilah and Erica were standing next to the brunette's car in the parking lot. The three of them were supposed to walk in together but Erica decided to steal Delilah away for a bit and told him they would catch up with him later. The blonde had decided to dress her best friend up so she could finally boost up the confidence and sex appeal she desperately needed since becoming part of the pack.
"Oomph!" Delilah winced at how tight Erica was tying up the black and red lacy corset she was wearing, "Don't you think it's tight enough already? I think my insides are about to pop from you squeezing them so hard!"
"You're fine!" her best friend said, "Besides, this thing is meant to highlight every single one of those curves you've always had."
"Well they're definitely highlighted now- ow! Erica!"
"Alright, alright, I'm done," said girl laughed, "Go check yourself out."
Delilah looked at her reflection from her car window and her green eyes widened at what she saw. She looked so… provocative! Her light brown hair was straightened and swept over one shoulder, her eyes were smoky, and her lips were so red that she was sure they could stop traffic. Along with the corset that pushed up her boobs quite dramatically she wore the tightest skinny jeans and ankle boots she was still a little wobbly in.
Even though the whole look was not her typical style, Delilah had to admit- she looked pretty damn sexy. If you had said Erica Reyes pulled this ensemble together just a couple weeks ago, Delilah never would've believed you.
She pulled up the corset but all it did was make her boobs even more pronounced. "Don't get me wrong, it's super cute, but there's no way I'm not getting dress-coded in this thing."
"Such a goody two shoes," Erica rolled her eyes jokingly, "But if you're so worried about being in trouble-" She grabbed a shopping bag out of the back of Delilah's car, "I got this for you."
Raising an eyebrow, the brunette took the bag. "What is this?" She reached inside and pulled out a black leather moto jacket. She couldn't help but laugh. "Really?"
"Yep! And now, you're officially one of us." Erica held open her own leather jacket. "Think of it as an initiation gift." Then the smile on her face became sentimental. "It's also a thank you gift."
"You're thanking me? For what?"
"I know you had been the one to suggest I be turned. Because of you people finally notice me. I'm no longer seen as a freak, but a person. A hot person, nonetheless." Both girls laughed. "You're the most amazing friend I've ever had. Bar none."
Trying not to cry, Delilah smiled and embraced the blonde in a huge hug, thankful that she finally found a friend who loved her for her. Even though their pack consisted of werewolves and weren't all related, they were more of a family to Delilah than her real one or her former friends.
The two girls finally broke apart and Delilah slipped on her new jacket, completing her outfit. "Well, how do I look?"
"Like a boss ass bitch."
Linking arms, the girls strutted down the school hallways. All eyes seemed to be on them and it was almost making Delilah anxious. Boys were roaming their eyes up and down at their bodies and girls clenched their jaws at jealousy. Even though she was a dancer and was used to being in the spotlight, Delilah wasn't used to this kind of attention. She immediately doubted herself, wondering if she looked too fat in her clothes or if the makeup made her look skanky. But Erica was there to build her back up.
"Chin up and tits out."
Delilah gave her a weird look. "What?"
"Tilt your chin up and stick your chest out. Trust me, it makes a difference."
So she did just that. Wow. Erica was right- it really did make a difference. It was almost like Delilah instantly became a few inches taller. She suddenly felt much more powerful. This must be how the Plastics felt in Mean Girls. What really put the cherry on the top was when they passed by Delilah's old friends. The three girls were standing at Annie's locker and were in disbelief that she used to be one of them. It was like staring at a complete stranger.
"D?" Annie squeaked out.
Said girl just gave the three a small smirk and kept on walking with her best friend.
The confidence was starting to wear off after Erica had went to her own class. Now Delilah was starting to become paranoid. While the ogling over her appearance was getting easier to get used to, it seemed like other students could sense that something else was different about her. Her werewolf senses were going into overdrive and the different scents and conversations she could now hear were becoming overwhelming. She was actually relieved that her eyes weren't able to change color or else they would be flashing like crazy. Maybe she should've waited a few more days to have returned back to school.
The bell rang loudly, making Delilah wince at the shrill noise and she had to force herself to not cover her ears. Class was now over so she quickly grabbed her belongings and scurried out of the room.
She ran into the girls' restroom, making sure no one else was in there before dashing to the sink. Her hands gripped onto the edge of the sink as if she was hanging on for dear life. Her breathing pattern became short and fast. It was like she was suffocating from the thick atmosphere. Delilah could feel her claws growing out and it was almost painful. When she looked at herself in the mirror, her fangs had appeared. But her eyes still remained that emerald green.
It seemed like she was never going to calm herself down until a familiar scent- the one that always stands out to her- became present. It had a hint of cologne but more so laundry detergent that was made for sensitive skin otherwise Isaac would get itchy. He was nearby and just knowing that he was looking for her was making Delilah turn back into her normal self.
"Breathe," she told herself, "Everything is fine. You can do this."
Once she was sure she was stable, Delilah picked up her bag and walked out the restroom. But right as she stepped out into the hallway she had bumped into something hard. She had to refrain herself from rolling her eyes as she looked up at a tall boy with perfectly styled hair and cocky grin.
"Trenton."
"Hey, D. Long time no see."
"Apparently not long enough." Delilah crossed her arms. "What do you want?"
"Can't I just say hello to an old friend?" Trenton asked, shrugging his shoulders.
"You're not one to make small talk."
The jock let out a chuckle. "You know me so well, D. Well, I heard that you had gotten yourself a little makeover and I wanted to see it for myself."
Delilah noticed his eyes were looking at something lower. She looked down and realized her arms being crossed made her cleavage more pronounced. Rolling her eyes, she uncrossed them.
"Now you've seen it. So if you would excuse me, I'm going to be late for my next class." She turned to leave but Trenton grabbed her wrist, make her tense at the unwanted touch.
"Seems like the new outfit comes with a new attitude," Trenton teased, "I like that. Now that your single, why don't you finally take me up on that date?"
"Whoever said I was single?"
"Oh, please. Don't act like you're still messing around with that grave-digger. Especially since he's a wanted creep after killing his own father."
"You might wanna rethink that, Trenton."
Said boy spun around at the unexpected voice. Like a knight in shining armor (or werewolf in a leather jacket), Isaac was standing behind him. He had that cool smirk on his face that made Delilah just wanna grab and kiss him.
"You are right about one though," Isaac said as he stepped around him and threw an arm around his girlfriend, "I am wanted… but I'm wanted by this girl." He smiled down Delilah who beamed right back at him.
"What the hell is this?" Trenton scoffed, "What, are you two in some sort of gang now? You buy some leather jackets and all of a sudden you think your hot shit?"
"No," Delilah said, "we just decided that we were done with taking everyone's shit. Including yours. We should really get going now. You ready, baby?"
"Let's do it." The couple walked away from the stunned and angry jock. "Later, dude."
They waited until they were out of Trenton's sight and earshot before Delilah laughed and hopped up and down a couple times. "Oh, damn, that felt good! Did you see the look on his face when you called him 'dude'? It was awesome!"
"How about when you said you were done taking his shit?" Isaac laughed along, "He was pissed! I could get used to making an ass out of him more often."
"Okay, let's not make it a habit, Mr. Cool." They laughed once more as Isaac took his girlfriend's hands. He leaned against a wall as he gazed at her. "What is it?"
"Nothing. It's just this is the first time I've seen you wear this outfit today."
Suddenly Delilah became bashful. "Is it too much? It was Erica's idea. I feel like I'm late for my shift at the Moulin Rouge. Does it look bad?"
Isaac shook his head and smiled softly. "Not at all. But I think you look absolutely beautiful no matter what you wear."
And he meant it. The clothes never mattered. But it was the way Delilah glowed whenever she felt genuinely good about herself. After her incident with Lawrence, Isaac was afraid he would never see her smile like that again. And he knew she was still haunted by that night. He could smell the anxiety and fear on her every second. It broke his heart and he still wanted her to get her justice and he was do whatever he could to help pick up the pieces and heal her.
The bliss and love and comfort that he could smell on her whenever she was near him however… that was when she shined the most.
Isaac pulled Delilah closer to him and lightly gripped her chin and kissed her softly. She wrapped her arms around his neck as she melted into his embrace. At least Delilah was still able to do this with him with no hesitation. Isaac would never hurt this girl, and he knew she knew that too.
"Aww!"
The couple stopped their kiss when they saw Erica walk towards them. Isaac glared at his fellow beta for interrupting then but he just held Delilah tighter when she buried her face in his chest from embarrassment.
"I swear you two are so sweet it almost makes me sick," Erica joked.
"What do you want, Erica?" Isaac asked her, "Besides to ruin a perfectly good moment with my girlfriend."
"I just wanted to make sure you still had that vial."
Isaac reached into his back pocket and pulled out a tiny bottle filled with the kanima's venom. "Got it right here."
"Do we have to do this at the school?" Delilah asked, feeling unsure of the plan for Lydia, "What if the venom affects her and she paralyzed in front everyone?"
"Derek said he wants this done during chemistry," Erica told her.
"Yeah," Isaac agreed, "and if it's Lydia, I'm gonna kill the bitch, alright?"
"Isaac!" Delilah whispered harshly, shocked by her boyfriend's words.
"Baby, you know we can't have her running around killing anymore people if she's the kanima. She has to be stopped."
"We have to test her first," Erica reminded him.
Delilah felt herself begin to sweat. "I really don't know about this, you guys…"
"It's our orders. We can't back down out of it. Derek would rip us a new one. Let's just go to class."
Erica and Isaac began to head off as Delilah stood there, contemplating what she was told to do. She did not sign up to kill. It would be inevitable if she was face to face with danger, but to kill Lydia? Delilah and Lydia had always been kind to each other. She liked Lydia, and while she could be a bitch, killing her just didn't sit right with Delilah. Something about this whole thing felt wrong.
"Baby?" Delilah looked up to see Isaac waiting for her, "Are you coming?"
Taking a deep breath, she nodded her head and held Isaac's hand as they walked to class.
Chemistry finally came around, the one class Delilah was dreading the most. Which was unusual for her since it was her best subject. She knew what was about to go down and she was internally freaking out. But she knew that she just had to do it. Derek already seemed to think she was incapable of being one of them and she wanted nothing more than to prove her alpha wrong. She just couldn't be hesitant, even if it meant going against her morals.
Delilah held onto Isaac's hand as they followed behind Erica into the classroom. Then the three stopped when they saw Scott, Stiles, and Natalie entering from the other side. It was like some sort of showdown. They all looked at the empty seat that was next to Lydia and then back at each other. Isaac and Erica started to head towards the seat but Natalie hurried and got to it first, her friends following suit. So them three just sat at the table behind them with Delilah in the middle.
Anxiety was running through the brunette's body, but she couldn't tell if it was from sensory overload or the way that Stiles and Natalie kept looking back at her like they knew something. Delilah was sure by this point they knew that she was turned, but she almost felt as if they knew that something else was off about her. And she could feel it too. Was everyone else watching her too? She didn't even realize how fast her leg was bouncing until Isaac gently placed his hand on her thigh. Gripping onto his hand, Delilah just focused on his steady heartbeat as she tried to slow hers down.
"Einstein once said," Mr. Harris said, walking from the back of the room, "'Two things are infinite- the universe and human stupidity.' I myself have encountered human stupidity." He patted Stiles's shoulder. "So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or in Mr. Stilinski's case, less than one. Erica, you take the first station. You'll start with-"
Besides Isaac, Scott, and Stiles, all of the boys in the class shot their hands up at the chance to work with the blonde. As long as the attention wasn't on her, Delilah was perfectly okay with it.
"I didn't ask for volunteers," Mr. Harris said, voice laced with annoyance, "Put your little hormonal hands down. Start with Mr. McCall. Next two."
Thank God that their teacher had kept Delilah and Isaac together. Her boyfriend was her comfort zone and she wasn't ready to face anyone else just yet, especially the infamous trio. She started working on the lab, pouring various chemicals in a beaker and writing down her results.
"Delilah, is everything ok?" Isaac asked his girlfriend.
"Yeah, of course, why wouldn't it be?" she answered, not breaking her focus from the work in front of her.
"Because your hands are super shaky right now."
Delilah paused when she saw that he was right- the hand that was holding a test tube was trembling so hard that it was impressive that nothing was spilling out. Isaac gently pried the test tube out of her hand.
"Here, let me take this so you don't accidentally drop it and get it all over you." He started to get concerned when Delilah closed her eyes. "Baby, talk to me. What's the matter?"
"They keep staring at me," Delilah told him.
"Who?" Isaac asked.
"Scott, Stiles, Natalie… they've been looking over at me since class started." They turned their heads and saw that indeed, Stiles and Natalie were staring at them. Realizing they were caught, the other couple cleared their throats and pretended to work on their lab. Isaac rolled his eyes at the two idiots. "They know about me." Delilah's throat was getting tight. "Isaac, I don't think I can do this… they know something's wrong, I can't-"
"Hey, hey, Delilah, look at me." She shook her head. She was gonna be sick. "Baby, look at me." Giving in, she slowly opened her eyes to see Isaac's cerulean ones on her. "I know everything is overwhelming right now. This is exactly how I felt my first day turned surrounded by a bunch of people. And I know what Derek is asking of us is a lot. But you're stronger than you realize. You can do this. I know you don't like it but this is what we have to do. If it's too much for you, let me take care of it. Okay?"
Hesitantly, Delilah nodded her head. "Okay."
Ding!
Mr. Harris rang the bell on his desk. "Switch."
The couple saw Scott walking over to their desk as Isaac was standing up to find another partner. He tucked a strand of Delilah's straightened hair behind her ear as he whispered into it.
"Don't let him get inside your head." He kissed the top of her head and went off to sit next to Stiles.
She kept her head down as Scott sat down next to her. She made sure her hands were steady as can be before picking up another test tube and inspecting it.
"So it's true," Scott said to her. It was probably the first time the two had ever interacted with each other. "You're one of them."
"This may come as a shock to you, Scott," Delilah said, not breaking her focus on the work in front of her, "but I honestly just wanna get this lab done."
But Scott didn't let up. "What's Derek planning on doing with Lydia?"
"I don't know," Delilah answered honestly, "I hope you're not expecting me to do all of the work. So if you're going to keep asking questions, at least pick up a pencil and start writing this down."
Wow. Scott was surprised that she wasn't interrogating him. But she did seem to be serious about him helping her out so he began writing in his notebook.
"Why did you take the bite?" he asked, "Did Isaac persuade you to be in Derek's pack?"
"Nope. I asked for it."
This took the teen wolf aback. "Wait, you wanted this? Are you insane?"
"Boy, you sure do ask a lot of questions, do you, Scott?" Delilah asked sarcastically.
"Look, I know we haven't exactly talked before, but I see you around the school all the time. Everyone seems to really like you. And you're one of the top students in our class. You actually seem like you're going places. So you wanting the bite doesn't make any sense to me when you already have everything."
"You don't know the first thing about me."
"I do know that Derek's crowd is not the one you want to be a part of." Delilah was getting really tense and she had to find Isaac's heartbeat fast before she can shift. "Being popular is not worth ruining your life over."
Delilah couldn't help but let out a humorless laugh. She put the test tube on its stand before finally looking at Scott.
"You really think this is about me wanting to become popular? I already had the popularity, Scott. Believe me, it is not at all what it is hyped up to be. I had Isaac and Erica way before I had the bite. They're the only real people I have in my life right now. Popularity doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I did this so I can survive when I go back home. So don't act like you know what's best for me when all I want is to not be scared he's going to hurt me again!"
A gasp escaped from Delilah's lips when to looked down to see her claws digging into Scott's hand. She drew her hand back to cover her mouth. Scott didn't seem to be to fazed by it, he just watched his hand bleed. This was one of the things Delilah feared would happen the most.
"Scott, I am so sorry," she said softly, "I didn't mean to-"
"I know," Scott assured her, "It's ok. See?" He held up his hand and showed her his now smooth skin. "Like it never happened."
He gave her a gentle smile, and while she was still kicking herself for making such a stupid mistake, Scott's kind eyes made her relax just a bit. Delilah was about to apologize again when Mr. Harris rang his bell again.
"And switch."
The brunette stood up and went to search for a partner that was actually normal. However all of the seats filled up pretty fast except for the one next to Natalie. Anyone who hung out with Stiles Stilinski voluntarily wasn't necessarily normal, but close enough. Delilah took the seat next to her and began to work on the lab right away, anticipating Natalie to hound her with endless amounts of questions like Scott did.
Fortunately for her, Natalie didn't say anything. She may have gave her a couple of weird glances, but she just wrote in her notebook until time was called.
"If you've catalyzed the reaction correctly," Mr. Harris said, "you should now be looking at a crystal."
And indeed Delilah was. Natalie looked to be impressed. This was why the brunette was in the Top 20 in their class.
"Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy- you can eat it."
Delilah broke the crystal into two and handed the other half to Natalie. The redhead was a little hesitant, probably because she thought that she had an ulterior motive. But Delilah gave her a small smile to show her she had nothing to worry about. Natalie eventually smiled back and popped her half of the crystal into her mouth.
When Delilah's eyes fell onto Isaac, she saw that he was partnered up with Lydia on that last round. He handed her the crystal, which had the kanima's venom dripping from it. The nerves ran through Delilah's body again as she watched Lydia take the crystal from the tongs and bring it up to her pink lips.
"Lydia!"
Everyone in the room turned their heads to see Scott standing up and looking ready to rip that crystal out of Lydia's hand. The strawberry blonde raised her eyebrows.
"What?" she said annoyingly.
Scott saw that the class was staring at him, and not wanting to cause even more of a scene, he just said, "Nothing." He sat back down.
Lydia took at bite of the crystal, the whole time Delilah begged internally for her to not be the kanima.
But nothing happened to her disappointment. Lydia was completely fine, meaning she had to be the kanima. While the other two betas in her pack seemed to be a little too excited about this information, Delilah just slumped in her chair, fearing what was to come next.
Claws raked along the lockers, scratching up the paint. Derek's three betas walked along the empty hallways like they were supermodels down the runway. They were on the hunt for Lydia and ready to strike. At least Isaac and Erica were. Delilah was still feeling uneasy but she did her best to fight that feeling and play it cool.
Isaac checked his claws and smirked as he watched Delilah and Erica spin each other around, smiling and laughing. The two friends best hooked their arms together once again. Looking back at her boyfriend, Delilah shot Isaac a wink, making his heart skip a beat. He pulled her away from Erica and wrap his arm around her shoulders. With her by his side, Isaac finally understood what it felt like to be one of the cool guys for once in his life. It was a feeling that he doesn't think he would ever get used to, but he decided he liked it. A lot.
They were about to pass the hallway when Isaac stopped, grabbing Delilah's hand. He was sure that Lydia was in there. But when the three beta's walked in there, all they saw were Danny Mahealani and Matt Daehler. Isaac matched up to them, grabbed Matt by the jacket, and pulled him up.
"Where is she?" Isaac growled.
"Who?" Matt asked nervously.
"Lydia," Erica said, crossing her arms, "We know she was in here."
"Well, I don't know where she is now."
"I did see her talk with Stiles and Natalie," Danny spoke up, "Maybe she went with them."
"Who else?" Isaac asked, still gripping onto Matt.
"Natalie did say something about Jackson being in a study group with them," Matt said, "So I'm guessing with him and Allison, too."
Erica nodded and spun around to leave. Isaac was still holding onto Matt and was glaring deep into his eyes. The last thing Delilah wanted was to cause a scene so she gently pried her boyfriend's hand off the confused boy.
"I think you got your point across, Isaac," she said to him, still holding his hand. She turned to Danny and Matt. "Thank you, guys." And she pulled him out of the library.
While the three betas walked outside, Delilah could still feel the anger radiating off of Isaac's aura. She decided she needed a word with him. So she tossed Erica her car keys.
"Go start the car," Delilah told her best friend, "We'll be right there in a couple minutes."
"Are you sure?" Erica asked.
"Yeah, this shouldn't take long," Delilah assured her. The blonde girl looked a little hesitant but headed over to the car anyway.
Isaac furrowed his eyebrows. "Is everything okay?"
"I should be asking you that," Delilah said, "It feels like you're about ready to fight the first person you see."
"What are you talking about. I feel great. We just need to find Lydia so we can slit her throat already."
Crossing her arms, Delilah narrowed her emerald eyes at her boyfriend who was not acting like the Isaac she knew and loved.
"You seem way too eager to kill someone."
"But it's not just about killing someone, Delilah," Isaac told her, "That thing is the one killing people. We just have to put an end to it."
"There's just something not right about all of this though," Delilah said, "I think you guys are too quick to believe that it's Lydia."
"Because she failed the test."
"I just don't think it's her. I have this… intuition that we have to consider other things- other people. And if you getting an adrenaline rush off of killing someone is a side effect of you being a werewolf then I really don't like this side of you at all."
The last part made Isaac's newfound cool demeanor falter a little. Pushing Delilah away was the last thing he could ever want. He cupped her face with his hands, making her look up at him with those same frightened eyes he had become too familiar with.
"I'm sorry," he told her genuinely, "I know I'm coming off as a dick, but I really am trying to do the right thing. We can't let anymore people die." He rubbed her cheek with his thumb. "I can't let it get to you either."
Delilah placed her hand on top of his. "Just be smart about this. Because I don't want you getting hurt either."
"We're trying," Isaac nodded.
He leaned his head forward, kissing Delilah softly. The kiss didn't last for too long before Erica was honking the car horn to get them to hurry up. Isaac growled lightly as he rested his forehead against Delilah's.
"Promise me when all this is over you'll find Erica a boyfriend so she stops interrupting us."
Giggling, Delilah agreed. "Deal."
The sun was setting. It would've been a beautiful scene if it wasn't for the reason they were stalking in front of Scott's house. Everybody's energy read different for Delilah. Erica was practically bouncing from excitement, Isaac was ready to fight, Boyd was nonchalant as usual, and Derek… his arrogance was radiating the most out of everyone else's auras. Delilah still was not too happy about the situation, but she wasn't feeling that same nervousness that she had all day. In fact, it was like Derek's power was traveling through to her and she just couldn't understand why.
But her thoughts were broken by the sound of her best friend's voice.
"Why are we just standing here?" Erica asked impatiently, "Let's just get them now!"
"Almost," Derek told her, "You have to let them know that we mean business. The longer we wait, the more they start to squirm. It makes everything much more impactful."
"Yeah, just look at Stilinski," Isaac chuckled, nodding his head towards the house, "The nerd looks like he's gonna piss himself at any moment."
"This is gonna be so fun," Erica laughed sinisterly.
The alpha looked over at his newest beta. Delilah had her arms crossed as she narrowed her eyes at the house. She could sense the fear in the three that were watching them from the window. She could feel the back of her eyes start to sting when she heard Lydia crying. It made her even more irritated that Derek was insistent on killing her.
"You're awfully quiet over there," Derek said.
Delilah turned her head and saw everyone looking at her. "So is Boyd."
"I'm also not a man of many words," Boyd reminded her.
"I still think this is a big mistake," Delilah said.
Derek groaned. "Here we go again."
"There has to be another way we can resolve this! Why do we always have to resort to violence?"
"Because that's what we do! It's in my blood and now it's in yours too. Being friendly is not going to end up in your favor."
"And how is your method working out for you?"
She knew it was a bad move as soon as she said it. But it had just slipped out like word vomit and there was no going back. All of the other betas' eyes grew wide and they couldn't believe that Delilah actually had the nerve to comment on Derek and Anabelle's estranged relationship.
The alpha was fuming. He marched up to her and for a moment Delilah was taken back to Lawrence ready to give her her next beating and she took a step back, boldness now gone.
"You know, I'm getting really tired of you constantly talking back to me," Derek seethed, a foot in between him and the brunette, "In case you've forgotten, I'm your alpha so you better shut up and get with the program."
Isaac saw Delilah flinch when Derek got up close with her. "Derek-"
"No, Isaac. She wants to act like she's above all of us when she's the weakest one. The only thing she got from turning was her shit attitude."
Tears were threatening to fall from Delilah's eyes. "Stop calling me weak!"
"Then stop acting like you are! I'm training you to fight for yourself and for what's right. But you can't disregard all of the not so good that comes with it." Derek stepped back and glared down at the brunette. "Maybe I should never have given you the bite in the first place."
As much as Delilah felt like crumbling, she would never give her alpha that satisfaction. She couldn't deny that she needed to toughen up a bit. But that didn't mean she was weak. And she had to not only show Derek, the rest of the pack, and even Lawrence that she was strong enough, but also herself.
She did deserve to be here. And she was going to prove Derek wrong.
"Fine. You want me to be a fighter? Then I'll show you a fighter."
With a huff, Delilah stormed to the side of the house, making sure that no one inside could see her. She found an unlocked window and went to push it open when she felt a hand on her arm. Isaac was looking at her with those blue eyes that she would drop everything for.
"Delilah," he said softly, "You know you don't have to prove anything to anyone."
"Yes I do," she told him, "I'm not going to be that same girl who lets people walk all over her anymore. It's time I look out for myself and show the world what Delilah Lambert is capable of. Are you with me?"
Isaac looked into his girlfriend's eyes, which displayed a newfound determination and bravery that he didn't think he had seen before. It was real this time, and he knew that Delilah was finally growing into her new skin. He was so proud of her.
With a devious smile, he told Delilah, "I'm with you, baby."
They both climbed into the house. Quietly, the walked down the hall until they saw Stiles, Natalie, and Allison facing the windows still, wondering where the two had went. Delilah felt her fangs and claws grow out as she stood behind Allison, growling lowly. As the huntress aimed her crossbow at the window, the new beta grabbed her arm and spun her around. She threw her down to the floor as Isaac took care of Stiles and Natalie. Delilah reached down to swipe at Allison's face, but she whacked at her nose with the end of the crossbow. She used this moment since the beta was distracted to run so she could find Lydia. After Delilah's broken nose healed within two seconds, she ran after the huntress.
She lost track of her, but as she walked through the hallways, she heard Lydia whimpering and calling for the police on the other side of the door. Derek's words echoed through Delilah's head, especially 'weak', as she gripped onto the door handle. She had Lydia cornered- this was the perfect chance for her to prove that she could hang with the big guys. But her conscious just would not let her do it. Instead, Delilah punched through the wall and ripped out the wires for the bathroom lights so she could at least scare her. She then heard the sound of a door being kicked down. Dropping the wires, Delilah went upstairs.
When she reached Scott's bedroom, she saw Allison crouching next to Erica, who was paralyzed on the floor. The huntress sounded like she was antagonizing her best friend and Delilah's protectiveness kicked in. She grabbed Allison by her hair and threw her away from Erica. Allison was quick to stand up but Delilah kicked her in the stomach and she flew back and hit the wall. She doubled over in pain and Delilah used this opportunity to grab Allison by the neck and pin her against the wall. It seemed to surprise her how strong the brunette actually was.
"I really don't want to hurt you, Allison," Delilah told her, keeping her grip tight.
"Then you certainly picked the right crowd when it comes to being compassionate, didn't you?" Allison choked out.
"I had no choice! You don't understand what it's been like for me!"
"Yeah, right. Trust me, there is nothing that is so bad that you had to become a-" Allison stopped as her eyes grew wide at what she saw on the beta's face. "Delilah, your eyes!"
Confused, Delilah turned her head towards the window so she could see her reflection. What she saw almost made her drop the huntress. Her eyes seemed to be glitching, switching between three colors- her normal green, beta yellow, and… violet?
Delilah didn't even get the opportunity to wonder what the hell was happening when all of a sudden, she got zapped in the neck by what seemed to feel like a taser. Her hold on Allison loosened and she dropped onto the floor, twitching in pain. Her vision became blurry but she was able to make out the huntress and the red velvet hair that belonged to Natalie standing above her. Then Delilah felt herself being dragged out of the room and downstairs. Next thing she knew, she was being thrown out of the house along with Isaac and Erica.
Her convulsions began to die down but she felt her eyes become heavy from exhaustion. The last things she heard before she slipped into unconsciousness was police sirens, the kanima roaring, and Lydia Martin crying. Delilah's head lulled onto Isaac's shoulders as everything went black.
