I'm going to be honest with you guys... this was an emotionally hard chapter for me to write. You'll understand why just based off the trigger warning alone. But this is one of the most important chapters in this story because this is where you'll start to see a switch in Delilah. So here's chapter 25!
WARNING: Miscarriage
Over the summer, Delilah decided to spend most her time whenever she wasn't with Isaac or searching for Erica and Boyd at animal clinic with Scott and Deaton. She had also been on break from dance so she needed another hobby to occupy her time. Quite honestly, she enjoyed helping out there. It was pretty cool to not only learn medical terms but of course, saving the lives of animals was a huge perk.
As Deaton was getting ready to give the dog Scott was holding a shot, Delilah sat off to the side, wishing that she could take away the dog's pain and heal him. But his owner, whose name was Kyle, was standing next to them so all Delilah was allowed to do was sit and watch.
"It's not gonna hurt him, is it?" he asked as he saw the large needle in Deaton's hand.
"Just a little," the veterinarian answered honestly, "But I usually find that it's the owners..." Kyle winced as Deaton stuck the needle in his dog's neck. "Who feel the most pain." He smiled at the boy. "Alright. Well, we'll just check the stool sample for parasites, but my guess is that he probably just ate something he shouldn't have."
Scott set the dog on the ground, Kyle and Delilah bending down as well. The hybrid couldn't help herself and started rubbing the dog's belly.
"He's such a cutie!" she beamed. She giggled when the dog licked her hand. "And a little ham too."
"Yeah, he loves the ladies," Kyle laughed along.
"Got a cool name," Scott pointed out as he read the dog tag with the name Bullet on it.
"He's got two brothers at home named Beretta and Trigger," Kyle told him, "Military family." Bullet whimpered under Scott's hand. "Looks like he knows who the alpha is."
Both Scott and Delilah looked at him with large eyes. No way he would know. But then Kyle started chuckling as 'alpha' could also be used as a military term. Scott and Delilah laughed along with him, relieved that they hadn't been exposed.
After Kyle left with Bullet, Scott was getting ready to inspect the stool sample so he could come to a conclusion on what had made the dog sick. Delilah pulled up her chair next to him and watched him do his work.
"So I guess you're an alpha now, huh?" Delilah teased.
"According to household dogs I am," Scott joked back, making his crush laugh.
"Either way, I don't think you would make a bad alpha," Delilah told him.
"Really?" Scott asked. The hybrid nodded. "I don't think I could picture myself being one. I've seen Derek do it and honestly looks pretty stressful."
"True, but you seem like a pretty good leader. I don't see you killing an alpha to become so I guess it's out of the question. But I think you'd be good at it."
The teen wolf smiled at the affirmation. "Thanks."
"You're welcome," Delilah smiled back.
Scott then started working on Bullet's stool sample. He plucked something small out with his tweezers. "Found something."
"Rinse it off," Deaton instructed, setting a bottle of disinfectant on the table. Scott poured it over the mysterious object to clean it.
"What is that?" Delilah asked.
Her guardian took the tweezers from Scott and placed it underneath a lamp to get a closer look.
"Definitely poisonous for the dog," Deaton told them, "Actually, for both of you as well."
"Wolfsbane?" Scott wondered.
"Mistletoe."
Delilah stood up to look at it. "Like the stuff people kiss under for Christmas?"
"That's it," Deaton nodded, "You kids be very careful if you ever come across this stuff. In fact, if you ever do see it, just let me know."
"Got it," Scott agreed. Delilah nodded as well.
The teenagers started to clean up to close afterwards since they both had school in the morning. Scott was sanitizing the test tubes while Delilah wiped off the operation table, even though Scott told her she really didn't need to. But she insisted. Sometimes he would steal glances at Delilah and when she caught him, he just quickly looked away, red hues appearing on his cheeks. It was interesting, but the girl just shrugged it off and continued to clean.
A dog started barking uncontrollably outside. Giving each other a confused look, Scott and Delilah went outside to check it out. They walked towards the alleyway and immediately Bullet started running towards them. The poor dog whimpered as Scott picked him up.
"Aw, where's your owner, little guy?" Delilah cooed, scratching behind his ear.
"He's gone," Scott said, looking into the alley.
"Where could he have gone?" Delilah asked, "And why would he leave his dog behind?"
"I don't think he did," Scott told her. She furrowed her eyebrows. "I think someone took him."
Usually at this time of year, Delilah would be at color guard rehearsals, prepping for the marching band field show competition coming up within a few weeks. However, she decided to quit the team this year. She just didn't find herself fitting in with that crowd anymore and wanted to try something a little more athletic. So Delilah decided to join the cross-country team with Isaac, Scott, Stiles, and Natalie. It was a nice little challenge for her and a plus that she would get to be with Isaac even more than she already did. Even though he would check her out in those leggings with no shame when she stretched.
"Enjoying the view, baby?" she said with a smirk.
"Very much so," Isaac smiled. He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him so he could wrap his arms around her waist.
"You're going to get yourself in trouble with Coach again if you keep this up," Delilah told him even though she was giggling.
Her love shrugged nonchalantly. "It's always worth it when it comes to you." He gave her a kiss.
A whistle blew in their ears, making them jump away from each other.
"Lahey! Lambert!" Coach shouted at them, "Don't make me separate you two! I already have another horny couple on this team and I don't need another."
"Sorry, Coach," Isaac said for the second time that day.
Delilah shook her head. "Told you."
"Like I said, you're worth it," Isaac said.
"Stretch," Delilah instructed him with a giggle, "And your shoe's untied, baby."
Isaac thanked her and bent down to fix his shoe while she continued to warm up. As they did so, they both felt an unnerving presence above them. It was the twins, who they both learned were named Aiden and Ethan. They both were looking at each other with sly smiles like they were concocting the same plan in their brain. Delilah averted their eyes and just looked over at Isaac but he was looking like he was even more on edge than she was.
The coach blew his whistle to signal everyone to start running through the trail. Isaac was still kneeling though as his mind was reeling with suspicion. Both Delilah and Scott were noticing that the beta was getting angry.
"Isaac!" Scott said, placing his hand on said boy's shoulder before he could take off running.
"It's them," Isaac growled out. He pushed Scott's hand off his shoulder and made a mad dash after the twins.
"Wait, Isaac!" Delilah yelled after him.
But he just kept running. Scott and Delilah looked at each other before they followed after him, calling his name.
Aiden and Ethan went a different trail than the rest of the team was so Isaac had to go off it as well. He was starting to catch up to them until they ran off course, making Isaac lose them. When he realized that they were out of his sight, he stopped running and looked around, wondering where the hell they went. Then he was pushed down the hill. Aiden pinned one of Isaac's arms behind his back while Ethan grabbed the other.
"Ethan, I always forget," Aiden said to his brother, "how many bones in the human body?"
"I don't know," Ethan growled out, "Let's count."
That's when Scott came in and punched Ethan in the jaw, making him let go of Isaac. "That's one."
With a yell, Delilah fan-kicked Aiden on the back of the head and he released his grip on Isaac as well. Aiden rubbed the back of his head and stalked towards the hybrid. When she backed up, she had slipped and fell down further on the hill.
"Delilah!" Isaac yelled out.
She was able to slide down on her behind so she wouldn't hurt herself. Once she got to the even ground, she let out a deep breath. Whew! That almost went really bad. But then Delilah looked up and gasped. She sat there frozen as she took in the sight of the kid from the animal clinic the previous night, strangled and tied to a tree. His head also looked to be bashed in and Delilah could see his brain. Blood was everywhere and the urge to throw up came back.
Then a girl screamed. The whole cross-country team ran over to see what was going on, including the rest of the pack. Isaac went to Delilah and helped her stand up. Her eyes had never strayed from Kyle even though she wanted nothing more than to look away.
"It's him, isn't it?" Stiles asked Scott. He must have told him and Natalie what had happened the night before.
The police had shown up shortly afterwards. Sheriff Stilinski and Deputy Henderson ran to the body and tried to clear everyone away from the horrific scene.
"Hey, get out of the way," Sheriff Stilinski said as he pushed his way past the teenagers, "Get back." He turned to his partner. "Get this area cordoned off before they trample every piece of evidence."
"Back up!" Deputy Henderson barked, holding his hands up, "Everyone back!"
"Get these kids out of here!" the sheriff ordered.
Whether it was from the chaos or the gruesome death of a fellow student, it was too much for Delilah to stomach. Covering her mouth, she ran to a bush that was far enough for no one to pay her any mind but close enough for her to vomit in. Like the most amazing boyfriend he was, Isaac was right by her side. He unscrewed his water bottle (thank you Anabelle for looking out for him!) and handed it to Delilah.
"Here, drink some, baby," he told her.
She took a swig so she could rinse out her mouth before taking an actual drink. Her hand went straight to her stomach so she could start the healing process. It was working pretty fast much to Delilah's relief. Ugh, she was so sick of being sick! What was it going to take to get past this?
Another girl screamed. This time it was a blonde girl who looked to be a senior as well. She tried to run to the body but Deputy Henderson held her back. Must be the boy's girlfriend. Poor thing.
"Kyle!" she cried, "Oh god, Kyle! Oh god!"
The team was shooed off and ordered to go back to the school. As Delilah walked with Isaac, Scott, Stiles, and Natalie down the hill, she noticed how Aiden and Ethan didn't seem to understand what was going on either. Did they not know who killed Kyle? Odd. Delilah wouldn't have been surprised if they had anything to do with it in some way. Maybe they didn't…
"You see the way the twins looked at him?" Isaac asked them all.
"What, like they had no idea what happened?" Natalie asked.
"No, no," Isaac said as he looked back at the twins, "they knew."
"The kid was strangled with a garrote, alright?" Stiles pointed out, "Are Natalie and I the only ones recognizing the lack of 'werewolfitude' in these murders?"
"Oh, you think it's a coincidence they turn up and then people start dying?"
"Well, no, but I still don't think it's them."
All five of them stopped walking and both couples looked over at Scott, who seemed to be the middle man in this situation.
"Scott?" Isaac asked, "How 'bout you?"
Sighing, the teen wolf said, "I don't know yet."
"You don't know yet," Natalie repeated, crossing her arms, "You gotta be kidding me."
"Well, he's got a point." Scott's best friends rolled their eyes. "Seriously, guys, human sacrifices?"
"Scott, your eyes turn into yellow glow sticks, okay?" Stiles reminded him, "Hair literally grows from your cheeks and then will immediately disappear, and if I were to stab you right now, it would just magically heal, but you're telling me that you're having trouble grasping human sacrifices?"
"Yeah, I think we've established a long time ago that the impossible is in fact very possible," Natalie added, flailing her arms.
Scott sighed as he turned to Isaac. "That's a good point too."
"I don't care, alright?" Isaac said, "They killed that kid. They killed the couple that saved Delilah and me." He started to walk away. "And I'm gonna kill them too."
Letting out a low whistle, Stiles said to Delilah, "Your boyfriend really needs to take some anger management classes."
She had already tuned them out at that point. Who really got her attention were the twins. They just would not stop staring at her like she was a foreign object. It took her back to when she and Isaac were looking for Erica and Boyd at the bank and how the female alpha told them to lure Delilah into whatever plan their pack was brewing. Not knowing what they needed her for was driving the girl and she anticipated when they were going to strike.
"Delilah?"
"Hm?"
Turning around, Delilah saw the trio staring at her as well. Scott's hand was on her shoulder, which was really what brought her attention back.
"Oh. Sorry." She pointed towards the direction her boyfriend went. "I'm- I'm gonna go check on Isaac. I'll see you guys back at the school." Then she ran off.
Mostly so she could get the fuck away from those twins.
Class with Mr. Harris rolled around sometime in the middle of the day. Since he was fairly impressed with how well Isaac and Delilah worked together last year, he allowed them to sit next to each other again this year. Normally Delilah would be ecstatic to be with her love. But right now she was getting worried for him when she felt under her hand how tense Isaac was. Those damn twins were starting to get to him not only because of the killings, but also because he knew they were going after Delilah.
"Baby, you need to relax," she whispered to Isaac, "Do not let them get inside your head." Even though she was scared herself.
"They're here for a reason," Scott told him from his seat behind the couple, "Give me a chance to figure it out before you do anything. Okay? Isaac?"
He didn't say anything. He just continued to glare straight ahead, clenching his jaw. Even when Delilah rubbed his thigh soothingly, it still didn't look. That's how she knew Isaac was getting pissed. She just prayed he wouldn't lose it.
"Mr. Harris, can I use the bathroom, please?" Isaac asked, interrupting the lesson.
The teacher gestured towards the door, letting him go. As Isaac stood up, so did Scott and Delilah.
"I have to go to the bathroom too," Scott said.
"Same here," Delilah raised her hand.
"One at a time," Mr. Harris told them.
"But I really have to go," Scott still tried to sway his teacher, "Like, medical emergency have to go."
"And I'm starting to feel nauseous again, Mr. Harris," Delilah added as she held onto her stomach, which wasn't entirely false either.
Their teacher still wasn't buying it. "Miss Lambert, if you really were feeling ill, you wouldn't even be at school right now. And Mr. McCall, if your bladder suddenly exploded and urine began to pour from every orifice, I would still respond, 'one at a time'."
Wasn't that a lovely visual. It definitely made Delilah's face scrunch up in disgust.
"Is that enough hyperbole for you both, or would you like me to come up with something more vivid?" Mr. Harris asked.
Scott sighed. "No. No. That's pretty good." He sat back down and Delilah hastily followed suit.
A loud bang disrupted the class. Mr. Harris stormed out of the room with the students right on his tail. Uh oh. Scott and Delilah's eyes grew wide as they turned to each other. Then they ran out of the classroom with everyone else. Their stomachs dropped when they saw Isaac standing in the middle of the hallway. Laying at his feet was Ethan. His face was bloody like he had just gotten beaten up. Delilah could see Aiden turning the corner at the end of the hallway and her fists started to curl.
Her sweet Isaac was being set up.
"What is this?" Mr. Harris demanded, "What's going on?"
"You alright?" Danny Mahealani asked Ethan.
The alpha played the victim. "Uh, he just- he just came at me."
"No, he didn't," Delilah gritted out. Scott held her back before she could make any sort of moves. Although he was fuming as well.
"Isaac, what the hell did you do?" Mr. Harris asked him.
Said boy shook his head, almost laughing humorlessly. Son of a bitch.
Thankfully that disastrous class ended very soon after that. Now Scott, Isaac, and Delilah were walking together to the beta's locker. He was still very pissed, even while holding Delilah's hand.
"Don't let it bother you," Scott told him, "It's just lunchtime detention. If all they want right now is to piss you off, then don't give in. They're just trying to get to you."
"It's not just me," Isaac said, looking across the hall.
Standing with Lydia at her locker was Aiden. He had that flirtatious smile on his face that meant he was trying to ask the strawberry blonde out. Hopefully the not-so-secret brainiac was smart enough to not fall for his charm.
"What about tonight?" the three of them heard Aiden ask Lydia.
"Nope." She shut her locker. "Studying."
"I could help you," the twin offered.
Lydia turned around and crossed her arms. "Do you have an IQ higher than 170?"
"Okay. You could help me. Tonight then?"
Instead of verbally answering, Lydia just patted Aiden's chest and strutted away. He looked over at the three other werewolves and smiled at Scott's reaction before heading the other direction.
"What?" Scott growled out when Isaac smirked.
"Now they're getting to you," the beta said. He took Delilah's hand and walked her to her locker.
As Delilah pulled out her AP Calculus book, she could still feel her boyfriend's tension in her own body. "They're really not worth it, Isaac. You don't need to stoop to their level."
"I just hate them so much," Isaac grumbled, shaking his head, "I kinda wish I did punch them in the face."
"You're better than that," Delilah told him.
"Still…"
Delilah shut her locker. "Would it help you if I got detention with you?"
"Have you ever even been in detention?" Isaac asked with a laugh.
"One time in kindergarten I got put in timeout for playing with my dinosaur chicken nuggets."
Amused, Isaac raised his eyebrows. "I'm pretty sure that's not the same thing, baby."
"And I told you that in confidence too," Delilah sighed, rolling her eyes. Ethan then walked by with Danny, the twin staring Delilah down. She tried to appear much more fearless than she felt but it definitely wasn't working and she knew Ethan could see that. Turning back to Isaac, the boy was breathing heavily. "Isaac."
"Do me a favor, Delilah," he told her sternly while grabbing her hands, "Whatever you do, make sure you are not alone. Stay with Scott if you have to. Do not let those twins catch you by yourself. Okay?"
His seriousness caught Delilah off guard, but she just nodded. "Okay."
"I don't know what their deal is," Delilah said to Scott as they walked together after they ate lunch, "They wanted the twins to lure me in to… whatever the hell they want me for. Wouldn't the last thing they would want to do is mess with my boyfriend? Because that's only going to piss me off."
"Maybe getting Isaac in trouble isn't part of getting to you," Scott suggested.
"Oh, so that's just their form of entertainment then?" Delilah asked with sarcasm.
The teen wolf shrugged. "Who knows what their plan is. But don't worry. I'm gonna keep you safe." His eyes widened as soon as he realized his slip-up. "I mean, we're all gonna keep you safe."
Good thing Delilah didn't seem to notice. She just smiled shyly. "Thanks, Scott."
All of a sudden a loud slam rang in her ears. At first she was quick to brush it off, but then she heard banging. It was like someone was pounding their fists on a door. Scott gave her a questioning look but Delilah just put a finger up, signaling for him to stay quiet as she continued to listen closely.
"Do you hear that?" she finally asked.
Scott tuned into the sound as well. "I hear yelling."
Indeed someone was screaming. And Delilah didn't need much more information to know what was going on.
"Isaac."
She took off running as fast as she could with Scott right behind her. "Wait, what's happening?"
"Isaac's trapped in the janitors closet," Delilah told him.
"How do you know that?" Scott asked.
"I don't know, I just do!" Delilah exclaimed, "And he's very claustrophobic and I need to get him out of there right now!"
Both of them followed the sounds until they got closer. Scott picked up his pace even more when he started to hear Allison screaming along with Isaac growling. She must have been trapped in the closet with him. Scott and Delilah turned around the corner and saw a vending machine blocking the door. With both of their combined strength, they were able to push the vending machine down and out of the way.
When Scott opened the door, he saw Isaac's yellow eyes and fangs threatening Allison. He grabbed Isaac by the back of his shirt and threw him out of the closet. The beta was still growling on the floor so Scott grabbed him by the neck to pin him down and flashed his own yellow eyes as well.
"Isaac!"
This immediately brought the boy back to his human form and he started breathing heavily. He backed up against the wall, suddenly afraid of himself. Delilah knelt in front of him and reached her hand out to him. Isaac flinched. His love's heart ached at how scared he looked. Like he was back in his basement and locked in the freezer.
"Baby, you're okay," Delilah told him gently, "It's just me. You're okay."
"Allison," Scott addressed the huntress when he saw the large scratch on her arm.
"I'm okay," she told him, "I'm fine."
"I'm sorry," Isaac apologized, voice shaky, "I didn't… I didn't mean to do that."
"I'm okay," Allison reassured him.
But that didn't stop Isaac from feeling bad. "I'm so sorry."
"Hey, shh, shh," Delilah hushed him before he could have a panic attack. He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his nose in her neck to calm himself down. "It was an accident, Isaac. No one's mad at you."
"It's not his fault," Allison told Scott.
"I know," he said, "I guess now we know they want to do more than get you angry and scare Delilah. They want to get someone hurt."
"So are we gonna do something?" Isaac asked.
"Yeah," Delilah said, her own blood boiling. She looked up at Scott who seemed to be thinking the exact same thing as her. He nodded. "Let's get them really fucking angry."
That's how she found herself at the front of the school with Allison of all people. It was a little awkward to say the least, especially since they never addressed their run-in with each other the other night at the school. And of course the obvious tension that was already between them. But Delilah tried to remain as civil as possible as she kept watch while Allison hot-wired Aiden's motorbike.
"How long is this going to take, exactly?" the hybrid asked.
Apparently not long. Allison stood up and revved the engine. Delilah nodded her head, actually quite impressed with the work the huntress did.
"Okay," Allison said, "I know Isaac is the one who'll be driving this thing but this is for you to repeat to him." She started going through the different parts of the bike. "Pull back with your left hand. Kick down to put in gear. Front brake-"
"Throttle," Delilah continued, twisting the handle, "Back brake for stopping." Now it was Allison's turn to be impressed. "My stepfather had a motorcycle. I would have to repair it sometimes as a chore so I kinda got familiar with all the parts."
"Ah."
It got awkward again. Allison cleared her throat.
"You didn't… tell anyone you saw me the other night at the school, did you?" she asked.
Delilah shook her head. "No."
"Really?" Allison raised an eyebrow. "Not even Isaac?"
"Not even Isaac," Delilah said, "I figured it wasn't in my place to say anything. Disregarding all of the physical pain you caused my boyfriend and my friends, I'm not a snitch."
"Wow," Allison said, "I actually appreciate that. Thanks. And… I'm sorry."
"Thank you." Delilah looked at the scratch on Allison's arm. "How's your arm?"
"It's fine. Kinda stings a little, but it's not too bad. It should heal maybe in a week or two."
An idea flashed into the hybrid's mind. She reached towards Allison. "May I…"
Allison was hesitant, but she stayed still as Delilah took her scratched-up arm in one hand and placed her other hand over Allison's heart. Delilah then looked into her eyes while hers turned violet. Purple veins ran down her arm to her hand and the scratches started to glow. Then they disappeared, revealing smooth skin. With wide eyes, Allison stared down at her arm. That was the first time she had ever seen Delilah's caladrius powers in action. It was quite something.
"Oh, wow," Allison breathed out.
"See?" Delilah said, "We're not all so bad."
Chuckling, Allison looked up at the hybrid. They both gave each a small smile, finally having some sort of understanding for each other. Maybe it was time they buried the hatchet. That was when Isaac walked out of the school building, holding a helmet. Allison cleared her throat.
"I'm gonna start heading to class," she said. She smiled at Delilah. "Thank you."
"You girls finally starting to get along?" Isaac asked as soon as the huntress was in the building.
"I think so," Delilah said. She grinned up at Isaac. "You ready, baby?"
"Born ready." Isaac handed her the helmet before hopping on the bike. "Scott said you could borrow this. Will you be fine on here?"
"Well, I'm not feeling queasy just by looking at this thing so I'm taking that as a good sign. Alright, let me show you how to use this."
After she did that, Delilah got on the bike behind Isaac. They took a few pictures on to send to Scott to show him that they were ready to put their plan into action. Also they wanted some new ones for themselves. When they were done, they put on their helmets and Delilah wrapped her arms around Isaac's waist. He rubbed her arm.
"Hang tight, my dancing queen."
Then he started the bike and rode up the ramp and into the building. Delilah let out a squeal. At first she thought she was going to get sick, but she was actually having a blast. Maybe it was from just pure adrenaline or the fact that this was not her first time on a bike anymore. Regardless, Delilah was laughing away which made Isaac smile.
Aiden ran towards them, looking angry as hell. Isaac stopped the bike just as the twin grabbed onto the handlebars.
"Get off my bike!" Aiden yelled.
Isaac took off his helmet and set it down. "No problem." He grabbed Aiden's shoulders and flipped over him, landing on his feet. He looked over at his love. "Baby?"
Standing up on the bike, Delilah took off her own helmet. She did a front aerial over Aiden, showing off a little. Looking back at the seething alpha, she tossed her light brown waves over her shoulders and strutted over to Isaac.
"You had to one-up me, didn't you?" he asked her teasingly.
"I couldn't help myself," Delilah said as she wrapped her arms around him, "You're not the only badass in this relationship." Isaac playfully growled at her, making her giggle.
A whole bunch of students walked out of their classrooms, curious at the loud noise that was coming from the hallway. They whispered amongst each other when they saw the random motorbike. Scott and Allison ran over to the couple while Ethan watched his brother helplessly. Then Ms. Blake, the English teacher from the boiler room the other night, stormed over to him.
Oh, he was in big trouble now.
"You have got to be kidding me," Ms. Blake said, "You realize this is gonna result in a suspension."
Scott, Allison, Isaac, and Delilah all laughed. And when the twins glared at them, all they did was just smirk back.
They won.
"Ah, that was so awesome!" Delilah squealed as she, Scott, and Isaac walked down the steps after school, "I feel so alive! I actually kinda want to do that again."
"Slow your roll, adrenaline junkie," Isaac laughed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and locking their fingers together, "One hit of the troublemaker life and you're already hooked. But yeah, I wish I could have seen their faces. They look seriously pissed?"
"Yeah," Scott chuckled. The three of them stopped walking when they came face to face with the twins, who were both fuming. "Kind of like that."
The twins starting taking off their shirts, leaving Scott very confused. But because this wasn't their first encounter with them, Isaac and Delilah braced themselves for what was about to happen. Ethan crouched down and Aiden dug his hand in his brothers back. Their bones cracked and they growled as their bodies joined together. When the creature stood up, now mutated as one mega alpha, it roared at the three.
Isaac dropped his bag and rolled up his sleeves. "We can take them."
"What?!" Delilah shrieked. Her boyfriend was insane!
The mega alpha roared again.
"Are you kidding?" Scott exclaimed. He grabbed Isaac's arm and they and Delilah took off running. "Isaac! Delilah!"
Because that thing was much stronger and faster, it didn't take long for the mega alpha to catch up to them. It grabbed Scott and Isaac by the back of their shirts and lifted them up in the air. Delilah turned around to help her boyfriend and her friend but the mega alpha roared at her, making her fall on her butt and scoot back against the wall. It knocked Scott and Isaac's heads against each other and it threw them down.
It turned back around to Delilah, who hadn't dared to move. Her eyes were as large as possible as she stared up at the beast. Getting back in her face, it let out another earth shattering roar. She honestly thought it was going to kill her until she saw someone walk behind it.
A blind man walked past Scott and Isaac and went to the twins. They shifted back to normal when they saw their leader. He pulled the cap off of the end of his walking stick, revealing a sharp blade. Then he whipped the twins' faces, cutting their cheeks. After putting the cap back on his stick, he walked in between them and towards Delilah.
Her heartbeat tripled and she was sure it would explode when he stopped in front of her. Good thing he couldn't see because it was almost embarrassing how badly she was shaking. He lifted her head up with his stick so she could look up at his. His smile was polite, making this even more unnerving.
"I look forward to having you join us soon, Delilah Lambert," he told her.
Then he walked away with the twins following behind him.
"Who the hell is that?" Isaac asked.
"Deucalion," Scott answered.
Both boys looked over at Delilah, still stunned by what just happened. If she wasn't scared before, she sure as hell was now.
Throughout the rest of the day, Delilah had been getting calls and texts from not only Isaac, but also Derek and Anabelle to not be alone. Not like she really wanted to be alone anyway. Those twins just gave Delilah the creeps and who knows where they would pop up from next?
But she did need a break from her actual reality for a bit. Which is why Delilah was so grateful that she still had the dance studio to go to. Because of her already busy life, she hadn't been able to work as much. It honestly bummed her out since dance had always been such a huge part of her life. There was good news though- Delilah was asked to create a piece for the next competition season under the student choreography category. It was a huge honor and it would be a good distraction for when the supernatural world became too much.
After her ballet and tap classes, Delilah began to work on choreography for her piece. She wasn't sure what direction she wanted to go in. Does she go for something more lyrical and beautiful? Or fun and sassy? Then the more she thought about it, Delilah decided to go for something that was normally out of her comfort zone. Something hard-hitting. Something strong. Something to make her feel like a warrior. Now that she was feeling inspired by her every day life, Delilah went to work.
One hour had passed and she already had almost a minute of her dance composed. The hybrid was so into what she was doing that she didn't realize that she was the last one in the studio. It was already dark out. Just how long had she been here? Well, it was raining and it was coming down pretty hard so Delilah should probably start heading out of there. So she gathered her belongings and shut off all the lights.
Damn her for not having an umbrella on her. As soon as she got outside, she was already soaking wet. Not even the hood of her jacket could shield her. Delilah ran to her car and frantically searched for her keys in her dance bag.
Bang!
The loud sound made Delilah jump and drop her bag. She wanted to write it off as just a raccoon rummaging through the trash cans. But this was Beacon Hills, Delilah knew that it was not a damn raccoon. And she knew she should have just ignored it but curiosity just got the best of her. Slowly and stupidly, she walked over to the trash cans to check it out. There was nothing there.
Maybe it was just a raccoon.
"You know, you're really hard to get alone."
Biting the inside of her cheek, Delilah turned around to see the twins staring down at her. While she was still scared, she didn't want them to know that. She just tried to look annoyed instead.
"That was kind of the point," she told them, crossing her arms.
"We just wanted to properly introduce ourselves," Ethan casually shrugged.
"I know who you guys are," Delilah quipped, "You're the ones who killed my best friend and got my boyfriend into trouble. You're the bad guys."
"Oh, I necessarily would call us the bad guys," Ethan smirked, "Would you, Aiden?"
"Nah," his brother said, "If anything, we're the top dogs. The ones that every werewolf dreams of being but would never be. But if you play your cards right, maybe you could be one of us."
Delilah furrowed her eyebrows. "What do you guys want with me?"
"I guess we'll cut to the chase then," Aiden said, "You're a very rare breed, Delilah. Not only because you're a hybrid, but also because you're a healer. Every pack is supposed to have one. And in case you haven't noticed, our pack is lacking one."
"Let me guess… you guys want me to be your healer." The twins nodded. "Why the hell would I ever want to join your pack?"
"Why wouldn't you?" Ethan asked, "Think of how even more powerful you would be if you were one of us. Being the healer of an alpha pack would earn you a high amount of respect and credibility from every supernatural being. Not just werewolves."
"All you would have to do…" Aiden said, stepping towards Delilah. She stepped back until she hit the brick wall behind her. "Heal Deucalion."
"By heal you mean…"
"Restore his vision," Ethan specified.
It couldn't be that simple. Things were never that simple. And even if it were, Delilah would never accept their offer. Would she? Power was never the reason why she accepted the bite from Derek in the first place. Survival was the reason. She never asked for all of this extra stuff that just so happened to come along with it.
Then again, was gaining more power really such a bad thing? Just because the alphas might not use theirs for good, that didn't mean Delilah couldn't. But maybe she could teach them that they could do something good with their power. Use it to make the world a safer and better place.
Who the fuck was she kidding? They didn't care about keeping people safe. All they cared about was themselves. And Delilah wanted no part of it.
"I'm not interested."
She tried to push past them but Aiden quickly wrapped his hand around her neck and pinned her against the wall.
"You're not gonna be able hide from us much longer, Delilah," Aiden growled, "Soon enough you'll have no choice but to join us."
"Especially if you wanna keep your precious Isaac alive," Ethan grinned evilly.
No one dares threaten Delilah's love.
Not thinking twice, she scratched Aiden's face, making him drop her. Ethan swung his fist at Delilah but she ducked just in time. When she got back up, she kicked him in the chest. She used this to try to make her escape. She ran to her car and tried to find her damn keys in her bag. Mid search, Ethan grabbed Delilah by the hair and yanked her up so she was standing. He headbutted her harshly but it didn't make her stumble. Delilah went to punch him and Ethan caught her fist. He then punched her in the face and that was what made her fall.
The punch made her dizzy, but she tried to get up, refusing to give up. Even with a broken and bloody jaw. Ethan punched her in the temple and she fell again. But Delilah was still determined. Suddenly Aiden kicked her in the stomach. More like stomped on it. That was what made the hybrid scream out in blinding pain. Clutching on to her stomach, Delilah toppled over on her side, no more energy left in her to fight.
Aiden crouched down next to her and grabbed her chin. "You might want to rethink your decision, Delilah. If you don't… well, let's just keep that a surprise for later."
He pushed her back down and walked away with Ethan right behind him. They left Delilah on the ground, bleeding out and still holding onto her stomach.
Laying on his back in the McCall guest room, Isaac stared up at the ceiling. Derek had kicked him out of the loft unexpectedly. Being the incredibly kind person Anabelle was, she tried to fight it but Derek throwing a glass at Isaac's head pretty much sealed the deal. The beta thought about going to Delilah's house to stay with her, but he didn't want to put that burden on Deaton since he already was taking care of a teenager that technically wasn't his. So that's how he ended up going to Scott, who gratefully allowed Isaac to stay with him and his mom.
Said teen wolf knocked on Isaac's door and smiled. "Hey. You hungry?"
"Kinda," Isaac shrugged.
"My mom and I haven't been to the store yet so I was thinking that we just go grab something to eat," Scott said, "And if you want to invite Delilah then she's more than welcome to come with us."
"Yeah, that sounds good to me." Isaac sat up and started to pull out his phone. "I know Delilah has dance class tonight so I'm sure she'll be hungry afterwards." He frowned when he saw the time.
Scott noticed this. "Everything alright?"
"It's 9:42."
"Yeah?"
"Delilah's last class ended at 8. She always calls right when she gets out."
"Maybe she lost track of time?" Scott suggested.
But Isaac shook his head. "No, there's something wrong, I can feel it." He grabbed his shoes and slid them on. "I gotta go find her."
"I'll come with you," Scott said, "We can take my bike so we can find her faster."
They both ran out the door and hopped on Scott's bike, Isaac holding onto his friend. Then they rode off with the beta yelling out directions to Delilah's dance studio. Because of the heavy downpour, it felt like it took them ages to get to the studio. Each minute passing made Isaac's body tense up with anxiety for his girlfriend. He was already fearing the worst and he just wanted to scream at Scott to drive faster. But nothing could have prepared him for what he did see when they arrived at the small building.
There Delilah was in the parking lot, laying there motionless right next to her car. Isaac practically jumped off Scott's bike, not even waiting for it to stop.
"Delilah!"
He ran over to the girl and knelt down on the ground so he could cradle her in his arms. Her eyes were shut and body limp. Blood dripped out of her mouth, indicating that her jaw had been broken at some point.
"Oh my god, baby," Isaac panicked, "Baby, please don't be dead. You have to wake up, baby, please."
"Her heart's still beating," Scott told him, "but it's very faint."
"No, Delilah," Isaac breathed out as he pushed her hair out of her face, "Come on, baby, please wake up."
She let out a pained moan and her love almost let out a sigh of relief that she was alive. But he stopped when she started to mumble.
"Hurts…" Delilah slurred, "There's something… something's not healing…"
Isaac's eyes inspected her body. When they looked down at her shorts, his eyes grew so wide they practically could have popped out of his head. The entire front of Delilah's once light blue dance shorts were now stained with blood. A lot of blood. Enough to make Isaac sick to the point where he thought he was going to be the one to throw up.
God, please don't tell him that she had been sexually assaulted again.
"Fuck, we gotta get her to the hospital," Isaac said, scooping Delilah up in his arms and standing.
"I'll call an ambulance," Scott offered.
"There's no time," Isaac told him. He started digging through Delilah's dance bag until he found her keys, "Just follow me."
He gently set Delilah in the backseat and then climbed into the drivers seat. Then he pulled out of the parking lot with Scott on his bike behind him.
She couldn't leave him. He refused to let her leave him. And you better believe that he was going to find whoever did this to her and kill them. When Delilah whimpered, Isaac just drove faster, forgetting all sorts of traffic laws. Fuck following the law right now. All that was on Isaac's mind was to get his love to the hospital as fast as he could.
Not even bothering to go into the parking lot when he arrived to the hospital, Isaac just parked in front of the building. He grabbed Delilah from the back and ran inside.
"Somebody help!" he screamed, gaining everybody that was in close proximity's attention, including Scott's mom, "My girlfriend needs help! She's been attacked!"
Thankfully some nurses had seen the poor girl's condition and a gurney was brought to the young couple as soon as possible. As soon as Isaac set her down, they immediately started to wheel her off. He went to go follow her but one of the male nurses stopped him.
"Son, I'm afraid you can't go back there," he told the teenager.
"I have to be with her," Isaac begged, trying to push past the man.
"You need to understand that she could be in critical condition and might need surgery," the nurse said, "You need to just let our team do their job."
"No, you need to understand that that's the love of my life in there," Isaac argued. He shoved the nurse's hands off him but then he was grabbed from behind. "Let go of me, Scott!"
"Isaac, you need to calm down," the teen wolf told him sternly.
"Get off of me!" Isaac struggled to break free from Scott's hold. "Let me go! Delilah!"
Finally after thrashing wildly for a few more seconds, he tired himself out and slumped onto the floor, Scott and now Melissa holding onto him. They both tried to calm Isaac down as he continued to scream for his girlfriend. For his sake, Scott and Melissa really hoped that Delilah would make it out of this alive.
Once Isaac was finally calm, he and Scott sat in the waiting room. They were each given a towel so they would dry off from the rain. Neither of them said a word to each other as they waited to hear any updates about the hybrid. Even Scott was nervous. Not as a guy who had a crush on her, but as both her and the boy sitting next to him's friend. And he needed to support them both.
Those two hours they waited were the longest two hours of Isaac's life. He was so fucking scared. The last time he had seen Delilah so vulnerable like that was when she found him at the subway station after she was raped. Why did all of these bad men like to beat her down so much? This sweet and loving angel… there was nothing Delilah could have done to have deserved this. To have pain inflicted on her like she had her whole life. If there was a god, why did he keep putting her through all of this bullshit? Hasn't she suffered enough?
When Melissa walked up to them, Isaac shot up from his chair so fast that he almost gave himself a whiplash. He and Scott walked over to the nurse.
"How is she?" Isaac asked.
"She's stable," Melissa told them, "They took her into surgery to patch up the injury and stop the bleeding. She's still a little woozy from losing a lot of blood, but she's going to be okay. She's even awake right now."
Finally Isaac could breathe. He let out a huge exhale as he placed his hands on his knees. Scott even patted him on the back in support. But when Isaac looked back up at Melissa, he could tell that she wasn't done.
"What else is there?"
Melissa looked nervous. That was never a good sign. She sighed. "There's no easy way for me to say this, Isaac. Delilah didn't know so I'm assuming that you didn't either. But when they took her into surgery… we found out that she was almost four months pregnant."
His whole world had stopped. He swore that he felt his heart dropped to the pit of his stomach when that one word replayed in his head.
"Pregnant…"
That explained everything… how did neither of them figure this out earlier? All of the signs were there- the vomiting, the fatigue.. even the increase in Isaac's overprotectiveness should have rang a bell. But how could have this happened? Isaac and Delilah always used protection whenever they had sex.
Then he remembered that night they snuck into the theater. Isaac didn't use a condom. Since that was the first time they had sex since Lawrence raped Delilah, Isaac didn't even have one on him. And that was about four months ago so it fit the timeline.
"But she wasn't showing," Isaac realized.
"Some women don't start showing until halfway through their pregnancy," Melissa explained.
Isaac's stomach churned. "So the bleeding… does that mean…"
"Whoever attacked her used blunt force on her stomach and it caused her to miscarry," Melissa told him regrettably, "Isaac, sweetie, I am so sorry."
Scott gripped onto Isaac's shoulder. The beta was speechless and his mind went blank. He didn't know where to begin in processing all of what he had just been told.
"Can I see her?" Isaac asked softly.
The nurse nodded. "She's been asking for you. I'll take you to her room." Isaac followed her while Scott stayed in the waiting room.
Nerves kicked when they stopped in front of Delilah's room. Melissa opened the door and allowed Isaac to step in first. She then told him that she would leave the two alone and then left, shutting the door behind her. Isaac finally looked up at his love.
Just like he was last week, Delilah was hooked up to an IV. The tan on her skin was dull due to her lack of energy. Her green eyes that were once full of light were now lifeless as they stared at the wall in front of her. Isaac grew scared for her. This wasn't the same bubbly girl who grew up next door to him since they were kids. Whoever was laying on that hospital bed was now the shell of that girl. She was broken and bruised. And she couldn't hide it this time.
Cautiously, Isaac sat down next to her on the edge of her bed. Delilah still hadn't looked at him, her eyes still on the wall. He rested his hand on her leg.
"Delilah…"
Her voice was small and rough when she finally spoke. "It was a boy…"
Isaac felt like he had been punched in the gut. "What?"
"The baby was a boy… we were going to have a son…" Delilah finally looked at Isaac with glossy eyes. "I'm so sorry, Isaac. I didn't know… I swear I didn't know…"
"Shh," Isaac hushed her as he pulled her into his arms, "It's not your fault, baby… it's not your fault."
As he held onto her, the reality of everything started to kick in. He was going to be a father. Delilah was going to be the mother of his child. They were supposed to have a baby. A son. And some sick bastard took him away from them. Isaac finally broke down and sobbed into Delilah's shoulder.
Hearing her love cry and feeling his body shake in her arms made her start to cry as well. Those cries soon turned into screams. They held onto each other as tight as possible as they consumed each other's grief for their son that they never knew about. Their son that they will never know.
Wow... I told you guys it was going to be intense. I really hope you guys don't hate me. But I had this planned out since the very beginning. It's all part of Delilah's character development. You'll see that even more throughout these next few chapters.
