A Happy Life in Heart

In the land of Kumandra Heart stood thriving with glory and prosperity. Dragons flew around the island. People patrolled the palace and streets greeting visitors from the other kingdoms, feeding, and playing with baby dragons. Two particular dragons were flying high above with two excited riders.

Toothless did spirals whilst Hiccup held his hands out cheering. Sisu did breath-taking loop-to-loop, Raya screaming out loud for joy. They soared around the island waving to Heart's citizens and to all the dragons who loved to fly and see everyone from across Kumandra.

They heard roars and they looked up to see Hookfang, Stormfly, Meatlug and Barf and Belch flying over to say hello. Out of all the dragons they had rescued, they were the closest to them.

They flew around them doing cool tricks and Sisu and Toothless decided to compete with them. Sisu even magically made it rain to extinguish Hookfang's flame show just to be funny but he didn't enjoy it.

No fair. He growled.

Hiccup and Raya laughed. Sisu sniggered a little more before making the rain stop.

"Amazing trick," Toothless complimented.

"Why thank you," she answered back with a goofy grin.

The goofy exchange between them made everyone give them dream eyes. Even Hiccup and Raya were expressing teasing smirks.

"Oh stop it," Toothless brushed off.

"Go and compete with someone else," Sisu complained.

Their four friends flew away, roaring out goodbyes.

"Bye!" Hiccup and Raya waved off. And they watched them disappear into the distance.

From his balcony, Benja smiled watching his daughter having fun with the man she loved. In the three years that had passed, he had never witnessed so much chemistry between anyone. Watching them made him tear-stricken too. Watching them made him envisage himself and his beloved wife being so happy together. How he missed her so much. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small locket. He opened it revealing a woman who was the spitting image of Raya, wearing light green like their kingdom with golden jewellery. His beloved Renata. "How I wish you could be dear my darling. To see our daughter well grown. And in love,"

Toothless and Sisu flew vertically across the sky so that Raya and Hiccup could admire the amazing view below them that never lost its awe. Emerald forests. The dragon-shaped river glimmered like treasured under the golden sun. And most importantly the serpentine water dragons of various colours and every dragon they had delivered from the dangers of the Archipelago to the safety of their home. They saw mother dragons nurturing their babies on the shores and in the forests. They saw the water dragons swimming around in the river splashing water in each other's faces. And most importantly, they saw dragons of two different lands living together in harmony. Sisu peered down and she saw her four siblings: Pengu, Pranee, Jagan and Amba kindly helping Nadders and Nightmares find food.

They peered up and they saw their sister and their friends. They roared and they waved up to them. Hiccup and Raya waved back down to them. Sisu and Toothless falcon-dived towards the river. They glided over the water. Hiccup and Raya leaned over to touch the water almost touching each other's fingers before playfully splashing each other. They shared a loving glance as they felt the wind flying through their hair.

For a few hours, the four of them chilled on a sandy shore at the river watching the view. Raya leaned against Hiccup's shoulder. Toothless rolled about in the sand loving the feeling of its warm touch. Sisu started splashing around in the water doing dolphin leaps. Soon her siblings joined in the fun before they dragged Toothless and the couple too. Sisu kindly gave Raya and Hiccup a free ride underwater popping up and down now and again for them to take a breath. Then afterwards, Hiccup and Raya decided to have a private swim together where they could hold hands and just live in the moment of just the two of them, a cheerful couple truly in love with each other. They shared a kiss and then sank under the surface together.

Benja remained reading in the gardens but his constant grief made his tears rain onto the pages. He heard roars and saw the dragons descending toward him. Quickly he stuffed the ornament in his pocket again and wiped his tears. Raya hated seeing him cry. And he would not let her see him like this.

Toothless and Sisu landed gracefully in the gardens. Hiccup dismounted his steed and he helped Raya dismount hers. They smiled and held hands. They approached Benja.

"Enjoyed your flight?"

"Sure did," Raya hugged him.

"It was amazing," Hiccup breathed out. "Nothing like a spectacular flight to pass our day with. Honestly, this never gets old at all,"

Grunting approached them and they turned to see Tuk-Tuk bounding toward them like a playful puppy.

"Hey Tuk-Tuk," Raya bent down and she rubbed his cheeks. "Told you I'd be back. You wanna go play fetch? You wanna go play fetch?"

Tuk-Tuk bounced about and cocked his head up and down meaning 'yes'.

"Well let's go," Hiccup said. "Sorry, bud but I'm afraid we won't be taking another flight again until later,"

Toothless rolled his eyes.

"Let's go," Hiccup walked off following Tuk-Tuk with Toothless. Raya was about to follow too when she noticed a wet tear just leaving her father's face.

"Ba, what's wrong?" she asked.

"Nothing," he wiped it away quickly.

"Ba…" Raya clasped his hands. "Please tell me what's wrong,"

Benja couldn't hold his tears back anymore. They rained. "It's just…seeing you and Hiccup so happy together, it reminded me of what life was like with your mother, before we had you,"

The word 'mother' made Raya purse her lips. "I miss her too ba," she embraced him and he hugged her tightly. "I wish she was here too. She would have loved Hiccup,"

"I know she would have," he spoke proudly.

Hiccup observed the two, twiddling his fingers. He felt so sorry for them. Toothless purred sadly. He shared a tearful glance with Toothless. Their shared glance made them exchange pitiful emotions between them.

Night came to pass. Benja, Raya and Hiccup sat at the royal table dining on meat, potatoes, and vegetables. Everything was delicious.

"Splendid as always," Hiccup complimented the chief. The chief cocked his head in gratitude for his appreciation.

"Just wait till you see the dessert," Benja said ecstatically. "Strawberry and sugar cake!"

"Oh yey!" clapped Raya. That cake was her favourite, Heart's most popular dessert.

Outside, Toothless and Sisu were observing the night sky, perching on a pedestal, and observing the full moon. Their tails swung behind their backs almost touching one another.

"It's nice to just sit out here," Toothless said.

"Sure is," breathed Sisu. "You sure you can't compare the beauty of the night to the day?"

"I'm a Night Fury Sisu. The night will always be more beautiful for me. I really wish I wasn't the last of my kind,"

Sisu felt sincerely sorry for him.

"Was it difficult for you Sisu? When you were the last Dragon?"

"It was. Very," she confessed sullenly. "But what kept me going was that once the Drunn was defeated, I would finally see my family again. And it came to pass. You can't give up hope Toothless,"

Toothless remained desolate. Three years ago, aside from rescuing her dragon and bringing them to Kumandra, Hiccup had made it his goal to him finding more Night Furies…but no matter where they went, no matter how many islands and lands they searched, he remained the only one. Hiccup had felt guilty for keeping his hopes up like that but Toothless assured him he was all he needed along with everyone else who cared for them. But deep down, he felt really alone. He didn't want to consult Hiccup about it thought. He couldn't bear to put guilt on his shoulders.

"You have to tell Hiccup about this," Sisu said solemnly.

"I don't want to make him feel guilty,"

"He loves you Toothless. You know he would do anything for you,"

"I know. But that's why I can't bear to pressure him with it. No with everything that he's been through. And if I tell him how I feel, he'll want to go back to the Archipelago and I will not put him in danger like that. I guess I just have to get used to being the last Night Fury," Toothless purred into a cat position and laid his head on his paws.

Wanting to comfort him, Sisu copied his actions and shuffled a little closer to him. She felt her tail behind touch his tenderly. He didn't react. "Look Toothless, just because there aren't any Night Furies in the Archipelago doesn't mean they're gone. And just you might be the last one, which of course we can't be certain of, it doesn't mean you're alone. You have Hiccup, Raya, me, our friends…that's more than you can ever want,"

Toothless's moods weren't lifted but he turned his head so she could see her comforting eyes of kindness. "Thank you, Sisu. I truly appreciate your generosity. It's a gift. Never stop using it,"

"That…means a lot coming from you," she said.

Lose in each other's eyes, their tails intertwined. Their snouts became closer.

"Toothless!" Hiccup called.

Toothless pulled away and he turned his head to see Hiccup in the gardens. "Hey bud," Hiccup suddenly noticed how close his dragon and Sisu were. "Oh, my did I just…"

"OH no. Nothing at all Hiccup!" Sisu assured. "Go to him Toothless. Go and tell him how you feel. And don't ever think any different,"

"Okay. Thanks, Sisu," Toothless licked her cheek and flew down to his buddy.

"Hey bud," he stroked his chin. "You ready to go for a fly?"

"Yes. And Hiccup, there's something I want to talk to you about,"

"Of course, bud," he cradled his cheeks. "You know you can tell me anything," he hugged him dearly.

"See you guys are going for some nice guy time," Raya approached them.

"See you later love," Hiccup gave her a quick kiss and he mounted Toothless. "Be back soon,"

"Oh you better," Raya punched his shoulder.

"Ow!" he complained making her chuckle.

Toothless flew off into the sky carrying his precious human.

The girls watched them fly about. Raya noticed Sisu had a romantic glance. "Looks like somebody's in love," she teased.

"Yes…" Sisu breathed like she was daydreaming. But the word suddenly made her spring back to the world of reality. "What? Wait? No! I'm not in love with anybody!"

"Then why are you looking up at Toothless like that?" Raya teased.

"We're just friends," Sisu said.

Raya wasn't persuaded. "Are you sureeee?" she sang off the last word.

"Even if I did like him, which I don't…" Sisu gave Raya a pointed look. "It wouldn't work out,"

"Why not?" Raya asked, incredulous at her choice of words. "You're both dragons,"

"He's a Night Fury. I'm a water dragon,"

"So?"

"It wouldn't work out," she repeated. "Remember the history between my kind and his?"

"That shouldn't matter. The water dragons accept Toothless,"

"Doesn't mean they might agree to a courtship. Which I don't want,"

Raya sighed. "Sisu…," she patted her side. "Why wouldn't you want to be in a relationship with Toothless? Hiccup and I have noticed how much you enjoy being in each other's company. And how you guys were just sitting together,"

"That's what very close friends doo," Sisu sighed. There was no fooling this girl. "Because I'm the reason he got killed three years ago. Do you have any idea how much it hurt? How guilty I felt?"

"Sisu, Toothless was brought back to life. And he doesn't seem to care at all,"

"But I do," Sisu sighed. "I just wanna go back and be with my siblings for the night. Good night," She summoned a gentle drizzle and she galloped across the sky on water platforms. Raya looked out to her despondently.

Hiccup and Toothless felt the light drizzle plummet onto them. They saw Sisu fly away in the rain. She looked up and waved to them, they waved back. Toothless looked longingly out to her until she disappeared. The rain died out.

"So bud, what did you want to talk to me about?" Hiccup asked.

"It doesn't matter," his dragon quickly answered. "Let's just head back,"

"Toothless…I don't care what it is. All I care about is your feelings,"

Toothless sighed. "Can we sit?"

"Sure,"

Toothless took them to their special shore next to the bridge that connected Heart Island to the mainland. They sat down and Hiccup twiddled his fingers. Toothless chose to have no eye contact with his human. He circled like a cat on the ground and spoke. "I wish I wasn't the only Night Fury. I know I pretended that it didn't bother me at first. But now it really does,"

"Why didn't you tell me before?"

"I didn't want you to feel guilty. It made me sad that you felt so guilty when we couldn't find any when we rescued all the dragons from the Archipelago. And I was afraid of making you feel even worse if I told you how I felt,"

Hiccup scooted closer and leaned against his head stroking him. "You could never ever hurt me, bud. You know I would do anything for you,"

"I know. But I couldn't bear to put so much pressure on you. After everything you've been through,"

Hiccup hugged him tighter. "I can handle it bud. As long as I have you. And Raya. And Sisu. And Tuk-Tuk. And all of our friends,"

"I'm happy that you love your life here,"

"I will find a way to make you happy,"

"But I'm already happy," Toothless lifted his head so Hiccup could cup his face. "I've got the bestest friend in the world right here," he playfully pinned Hiccup to the ground.

Hiccup groaned in annoyance. "Oh, dragons and Vikings. Enemies again!" Toothless suddenly started licking. "Yuck! Yuck! Stop it!" he pushed Toothless's head off him, then rolled back onto his feet. "Ugh! You know that doesn't wash out!" he wiped the spit off his clothes. "And I really loved this robe,"

"Thank goodness Raya isn't here to see that," teased Toothless.

Hiccup tossed some spit onto his face. "Bet you're glad Sisu didn't see that,"

Toothless huffed through his nostrils then wiped his face. He noticed Hiccup giving him a goofy stare. "Don't even think about it,"

"I know you like Sisu,"

"We're just friends,"

"Come on," his human smirked and crossed his arms. "I see the way you two are together,"

"Seriously, we're just friends. And even if I did have feelings for her, which I don't, her siblings would never approve of an entirely different dragon mating with their sister,"

"Come on! That shouldn't matter to them!"

"And we're too different too in terms of philosophy. I'd dread all the conflicts we'd have,"

"But you and Sisu always seem so happy together,"

"It's best if we remain as friends. Come on," he stood on his legs. "Let's go home,"

Hiccup with pursed lips mounted him and they flew back but his sympathetic face turned determined. He was going to make Toothless happy. No matter how much he wanted things to remain the way they already were.

They flew up to a high balcony on the south of the palace. Toothless landed gracefully on the marble floor. Hiccup dismounted and they walked into their shared room. They marvelled at their lovely quarters. The ground and ceiling and columns were made of pure white marble. Gold and green dragon engravings snaked up the marble six marble columns. Toothless went over to a large stone slab in the centre of the room. He breathed fire around and then settled down like a large pussy cat.

Hiccup went over to some dressing screens and proceeded to shroud himself in some nightwear. A knock at the door came. "Who is this?!"

"It's Raya," Raya's voice called.

"Just a second!" Hiccup speeded the dressing process and then stumbled awkwardly to the door. He opened it, revealing Raya in her night robes. "Hey, babe,"

"Hey," as she walked inside she touched his cheeks sending him into a flutter of dreaming. "How was your flight?"

"It was nice," Hiccup answered.

"You enjoyed it Toothless?" Raya touched his cheeks.

"It was decent," he simply answered.

"Wanna star gaze for a while?" Hiccup asked her.

Raya nodded. They sat outside together on the balcony, staring out into the distance. Looking up at the stars, they saw one shooting by.

"Let's make a wish," Hiccup suggested.

"I was just thinking the same thing,"

Holding hands, they closed their eyes and hummed their wishes inside their heads.

"Shall we share?" asked Hiccup eagerly.

"If we do, it won't come true. And besides, I have a gut feeling that they're both the same," Raya smiled. Hiccup matched hers and he leaned in for a kiss. They pulled back and Raya cupped his cheek. "Can you believe it's been three years?"

"I can't. Sometimes it only feels like yesterday we came back to Heart,"

"Sometimes I often remember what it was like when you first kissed me,"

Raya chuckled. "I think about that all the time. Well, I should get to bed,"

"Sweet dreams,"

Raya gave him a quick peck on the cheek and she left the room. Hiccup followed her to the door and watched her enter inside. She turned back and gave him a sweet romantic smile which he returned. They closed their doors and departed to bed.
