So here is the story !
Chapter 3 : Turning Point
That afternoon, Kuvira sat in her chamber silently, waiting for the man who promised her redemption three days ago. An alarm sounded, her gaze snapped from her look on the ground to the door. The door opened and showed, once again, Grand Lotus Daizan with different guards from his early visit. He walked to Kuvira and stopped right in front of her. Kuvira instantly stand up and watch the man directly in the eye showing that she was dead serious.
"Good morning," said Daizan. He nodded a little.
"You too, Grand Lotus," Kuvira answered with the same gesture.
"I believe you have made your choice?" asked Daizan raised one of his eyebrow.
Kuvira sighed and replied, "Yes, I have,".
"Good, now let's go, shall we," said Daizan as he turned around and walked to the door. But his guard didn't move as if waiting for Kuvira to followed the Grand Lotus.
Confused by the scene, she asked, "How do you know?". Her question made the Grand Lotus stopped in his track. Not turning around, he looked from his shoulder.
"Oh, I know from the beginning you will accept it," said the Grand Lotus knowingly. Kuvira sighed and closed her eyes. She opened it again and started to walked. Passing the guards, she now right besides the Grand Lotus as the guards followed behind.
They left the chamber and into the corridor outside it. They turned left and walked with light pace. Not too hurry, not too slow either. They walked in silence, passing several guards on the way, but no one gave Kuvira a strange or wary look. They even looked like knowing what is going on right now. Kuvira started the conversation.
"Where are you taking me?" she asked quietly, the two guards escorting them still able to hear it.
"Where else? The Sanctuary of course!" he exclaimed with a wide grin. Those grin make Kuvira a little relaxed inside as she inhaled deeply. Knowing the gesture, he happy inwardly, knowing Kuvira trusted him, even not completely yet. Several minutes passed and Kuvira can saw a metal door at the end of the corridor. Walked into it and stopped in front of it, it revealed on the right side of the wall is a transparent horizontal window with several White Lotus agents on the other side, indicating a security and check post. Grand Lotus Daizan gave a nodded to the agents of the other side and they nodded. Not long after that, the metal door slide open and expose a light that make the occupants on the corridor must closed their eyes.
Several seconds passed and they adjusted with the light, started to walked outside, showed now they were outside the prison completely. Kuvira closed her eyes and inhaled deeply for fresh air, feeling the wind passed her, with chirping birds and clouds on the sky, enjoying the serenity of nature. For two weeks had been inside the prison, this is her first time she stepped her feet on the outside world, no handcuff, no glares and stares. I can't believe it was so soon.
She opened her eyes and noticed that her companion has been watch her ever since they stopped outside the door. Surprisingly, the one who break the silence is one of the guards.
"Enjoying the nature I see?" asked the one of the guards as he formed a small smiled. Kuvira cannot hold her tears that started forming in her eyes.
"Yes, it is," Kuvira answered with a smile in her lips and small tears dropped from her eyes, she closed her eyes and opened it again. Only now she saw an airship in the distance. Confused, she turned her head to the Grand Lotus. Knowing what she confused of, he answered.
"It is our ride, now come on, let's hurry up," said Daizan to the group. They walked again until the ship is in clear view. The ship was a standard airship, with black paint and additional gunpost on it. The ship looked like use for combat and battle purpose. Approaching the ship, Kuvira noticed there are two guards standing of the both side of gangplank which led inside the ship. But, what gained Kuvira's attention was a third person standing between the guards, right in front the gangplank with different outfit.
He has a metal forehead protector tied on his forehead with what Kuvira assumed Fire Nation-like writing on it. He wore simple dark grey chest-guards covering the torso and lower groin that come with darker grey clipped-on shoulder pads with high-collars and a strap across the waist. He also has a sword in his back. In his right arm is a red armband with swirl on it, and metal armguard on the forearm as he also use gloves in his hands. In his foot he wore a black boots. He is a decent man with spiky black hair and seemed muscular. This man, in Kuvira's opinion, was skilled and experienced.
The group approached the ship and stopped in front of the man. The stranger eyes met with Grand Lotus Daizan who spoke first, "Is everything in order, captain ?"
"Yes, sir we are ready, they want to meet her as as soon as possible," said the captain asnwering the question as he eyed Kuvira in cautious look. Kuvira saw that look and sighed. Of course this not going to be easy.
His eyes back to the Daizan, "The paper, sir ?" he asked ast the Grand Lotus nodded and handed a file. His eyes back and forth focused on the paper, the looked up, "Everything seems in order," said the stranger, his eyes narrowed to Kuvira then continued, "If you try to escaped, remember this : we are capable of defeating Avatar in Avatar state," said the stranger. The wide-eyed shock look by Kuvira enough for his to proceed. "Now let's go shall we ?" he asked as he stepped side from the gangplank and indicated the group to enter the ship.
Grand Lotus walked first followed by Kuvira and their escorts, soon followed OWL agents and the captain as the Gangplank is lifted from the ground and closed.
They enter the ship hall and sat, while two escorts dispersed from them. Grand Lotus sat on the sofa and gestured Kuvira to sat to a sofa across from him. She sat quietly and leaned comfortably on it. Not long after that the guy with forehead protector emerged from the railing above them and descended through stairs on the side and joined the duo on sofa.
"What do you mean by capable of defeating Avatar State ?" asked Kuvira out of nowhere.
Perked up from the book he read, he replied, "As I said earlier, I can defeat Avatar in their Avatar State, though it need extra effort, but yes, I can," he said casually as Kuvira's eyes narrowed in suspicious.
"How ?" a single word escape from her mouth.
"I have a unique ability, and not only me, because there are several others like me. You will see it...soon," he said ending the conversation. Then he stand up, "We will arrived in 1 hour, use it to rest a bit, we have bathroom and kitchen in the other end of the hall. Tell us if you need anything," ended the captain and he left them.
Both passengers nodded as Kuvira slept in the sofa, feeling the warm and soft texture of it as her eyes closed and eventually sleep. The Grand Lotus saw her and smile, "It seems you will really going to change," whispered to himself.
"Wake up, we have arrived," said a voice of Daizan while shaking Kuvira a little as her eyes stirred to opened. She rubbed her eyes and looked up to Daizan. He gestured her to followed her and she do it. They went through stairs headed to the upper deck. Once arrived on the deck, she greeted by a view of natural landscape filled with numerous of fauna, some she even don't know the name or she though has extinct. It was truly beautiful in her eyes. "Brace yourself, there will be collision," Daizan said confusing the woman beside him.
"What d..." her voice interrupted by the sound of earth collision as she saw that the cliff on the far side of the landscape opened like massive gate into the darkness, or as she though. This scene brought a gasp of shock from her mouth. She looked over the Grand Lotus who completely calm as her eyes darted back to the massive cliffgate as it seemed to closer and closer. The ship headed there! She thought with a wide eyes.
As the ship entered the gate, Kuvira looked behind her as the gate closed once again. The view in front of her take out her breath that looked like forever. Fascinating technology display with airship's design she don't even recognized, vehicles that foreign to her, and people on the bottom floor with various suits and attire she unfamiliar with, but there are also people with White Lotus uniform. Is this their secret base? She asked suspiciously in mind. Her eyes darted to the side which there are rocky walls that filled with corridor of windows or hall with peoples in foreign uniform even not human walking by in it. What is that!? What is this place!? Kuvira's mind screamed in confusion.
Then she felt the ship stopped and landed. She moved to the railing and saw there are several people that seemed has been waiting for them. Daizan spoke for the first time since the ship enter the Sanctuary, "Let's go," he walked out of the deck to the ship's entrance followed by Kuvira. The captain also went besides the Grand Lotus with escorts.
The gangplank went down and the group walked out of the ship led by the ship's captain, follow by Grand Lotus and Kuvira and finally the White Lotus escorts. Once the group touched the floor, Kuvira can see clearly the base. The combination of nature and technology was so synchronize in it. Streets breakthrough the thin forest inside the underground base. But even though the military activity seemed didn't bothered by the presence of nature. Troops passing by, vehicles passing around, and various activites can be seemed in the background.
But now, Kuvira's attention focused the people in front of her. three persons. All differentiated by their respective physical features. The captain given the files he hold to the person in the middle. He nodded and left them, followed by two of his escorts.
"Admiral Ka Trell, how have you been ?" Asked Daizan first as he bowed to the biggest person with three-pronged headcrest in his head in the middle of the group. From what Kuvira saw, she can tell that this man, or whatever he is, is strong and experienced. The now called Ka Trell replied the gesture.
"Its been a month, Daizan," he said before his eyes drifted to Kuvira and continued, "and you must be Kuvira I assumed," he said raised an eyebrow.
"Correct, Admiral," Kuvira said quickly adressing the Ka Trell with rank. Her face still stoic as ever.
"It look like you will be here for a while, we will be introduce ourselves quick, my name is Ka Trell and I lead this facility alongside Grand Lotus Daizan, this is..." he gestured to the young woman in his right, "Nilo, my apprentice, she is talented and clever" now named Nilo nodded to Kuvira with small grin. "and this is Commander Vort, our tactical officer," he gestured to the man in a some kind of armor suit and wearing a glass. Like Baatar, but this one is a combatant, a soldier.
His attention back to Kuvira, "Now you need rest, Nilo and Vort will accompany you to your quarter," said Ka Trell as Nilo and Vort nodded.
"Let's go Kuvira," said Nilo a little excited. Kuvira walked to her and in front of her was Vort and behind her was two of White Lotus guards.
As they walked through the square, Kuvira looked around her in awe. The base covered in technology with unknown design and shape. The people is one she focused on. Most of the personnels wore a white or grey body armor like Vort used, some used what seemed like heavier and bigger body armor. The people with armor have a some kind of tools in their hands. Most likely weapon. There are people used a same body armor but with additional of yellow paint. Most likely engineer personnels. The people in armor most likely man. But there are also people which used White Lotus uniform and uniform like the ship's captain. There was another people with hoodie and cap or robe of some kind.
Some of the personnels even not a human. There are a person with painted face and horned head, tall people which covered by furr assembling a walking dog or bear, people with large head and eyes in their side, people with red skinned and tendril in their cheekbones, blue skinned tall and hunch posture, people the same kind as the Admiral, and many others.
"We are not from this planet," said the armored guy named Vort who escorted her, out of the blue.
"I know, Daizan had told me about you people," Kuvira said with a sigh, "but, hear it and see it directly is a complete different thing," she finished.
"Even when you have known about us, you still wondered about who we really are," replied Vort expectantly. But before Kuvira can reply, Nilo beat her first.
"So how do you beat Avatar Korra ?" she asked casually. Kuvira looked at her with suprised. How she know about... As if she read her though, Nilo answered.
"I saw when you fight her in Zaofu, Kuvira," she said with a smile, "me and Vort are there to on a reconnaissance mission," she continued.
Slightly suprised, she spoke, "I...actually don't know, Avatar state should be the ultimate when of the Avatar, but she seemed disoriented and tired, giving me the advantage of winning," said Kuvira sighed remembering the duel.
"We have spy all across the nation, monitoring nations progress and protecting it from the darkness and evil," Vort joined the conversation.
"So why you and this, whatever it is, not stopped it?" she asked narrowed her eyes to Vort's back.
"That question must be answered by the Admiral himself," said Vort simple. And with that the conversation went off. They walked for several minutes and Kuvira once again looked around during their walk.
Off the distance, she can see several people in what she assumed a training area. "Can we see them training?" she asked surprising the Jedi and the Commander.
"Hmmm..." Nilo hummed in though with hand in her chin, then turned to Vort, "what do you thing? Several minutes of watched sparring will not be hurt," said Nilo with a hopeful tone. She liked the prospect of it actually.
All eyes turned to Vort and he sighed, "Several minutes is fine I guess, lead the way Nilo," he gestured to her to lead and lead she is with Kuvira and their escort followed.
Earlier, not long after Vort and Nilo brought Kuvira the her quarter, Daizan address the Admiral, "Now here we are, there is no going back after this," he said.
"I aware of it," he said while his eyes watched Vort's group left. His eyes back to the Grand Lotus, "How long we have until the trial?"
"About three weeks from now. I have arranged she will be transferred to Uraki, if you know what I mean," he said grinning, and Ka Trell like that from him.
"That is good, she will be here until the trial, adapting with her new life here," Trell said.
"Very well, I will returned to the prison to make everything on check, see you again when I picked her up," Daizan said as he shake the Besalisk's hand and returned to the airship.
"See you soon, friend. We will help her," Trell answered as the ship departing and left the Sanctuary.
"Those benders are skilled and talented," said Kuvira impressed by the White Lotus benders who right was training in one of the training area.
"Yes, they are," said Mole walking to them from the side of the training area. He wore a OWL earthbender uniform.
"Kuvira, this is Mole, one of our finest earthbenders," introduced Nilo the man that just arrived.
"Mole of Earth Kindom, nice to meet you Kuvira," said Mole.
"Nice to meet you too," replied Kuvira.
"It seems that you will stuck here for a while, Grand Lotus Daizan and Admiral Trell have a plan for you," said Mole nonchatantly.
"It seem it is," said Kuvira exhaling an oxygen from her mouth. Mole looked to Vort who nodded to him. Kuvira saw this and felt suspicious by the exchange.
Answering her though, he spoke, "Would you like to a little sparring session?" he asked politely.
Kuvira looked back to Vort and Nilo and noticed the attention was a pointed at her, like they waiting for her reply. Let's give them some show, then. "Very well,". Mole nodded and moved to one of the sparring area followed by Kuvira.
As they arrived and standing across, facing each other, Kuvira noticed nearby agents and soldiers swarming around them, as if they want to see the capability of the so-called Great Uniter. Vort moved the center of the circle held his hand up. "This is a simple sparring session, no killing blow, no serious action, the spar stopped when I say so, is that understoond?" he asked to both earthbenders. Nodding their head in understanding, "give her a metal plate and armguard," he told to one of the nearby earthbender and put it on Kuvira's back. He nodded and lowered his hand. The fight is on!
Both earthbenders assumed a bending stance and stood in silence of a while. Mole acted first with a stomp lifting a rock and punch it to Kuvira's direction as Kuvira deflected the rock and returned it to Mole who dodged it. Mole lifted two medium rock and sent it to Kuvira. Kuvira act quickly, but she felt her feet stucked in a rocky holder in her feet. Her face looked to the rock and in desperate move, crossed her hand in front of her face. She fell hard to the ground as the rocks collided with her hand.
She stand up and swing metal plates to Mole's face, but he able to blocked it with a rocky wall he lifted from the ground in front of him. He pushed the rock to Kuvira, but Kuvira split it with two metal plate. She then stomped the ground, lifting a rock and kicked it with a force to Mole. Mole didn't saw it coming, create an earth wall but still impacting him as the rock collided with the wall, destroying the wall in the process as he a little pushed backward.
The audience consisted of benders and soldiers cheers and applause with the display of skill. Some earthbenders even try to remember and applied it on the following day. Nilo grinning like a child with excitement as Vort had small smile of interest on his face.
The duel moved on as Mole closed the distance between them, Kuvira knowing what is going readied herself as he threw a punch to her side and hit the spot, making Kuvira gasped for air. Mole retreated a step and jumped a little performing roundhouse kick to the her head. Surprising all of them, including Kuvira herself, she managed to block it with her right hand, and unconsciously created a golem hand in her left hand and uppercut the man in the chin, hard, dripping blood from his mouth, throw him to the side of the circle.
"That was clever actually, remind me to add it in my arsenal," he said with a smile as he sat up and wiped the blood.
"With pleasure," Kuvira said with smirk. She admited this duel make her more alive in the last few weeks and she felt excited that she will able to doing this more in the following days.
They closing in again and exchanging blow, kick, and punch as the audience eyed them with anticipation for each of blows. Kuvira barely and hardly keeping up with Mole's hand-to-hand combat skill. Suddenly Mole draw a metal sword from his right armguard. Kuvira saw that and draw the sword too. Both run toward the center and the clash of sword breaks. Kuvira try to stabbed him but blocked to the side by Mole's sword. Mole retaliated with a cross swing. Kuvira blocked the attack with top head block and take a step back.
Mole advanced and once again their clashing until he rotated with his sword aimed to her neck, but he also saw that Kuvira's sword also swing to his neck from below.
"Stop!" shouted Vort as both swords touched each other neck and stopped right away, dripping a small trail of blood from their neck. Silence filled the area, then errupted into cheers and applauses from the audience.
Kuvira never felt alive with all they cheers and applauses they got as she exhaled heavily. Mole had a smile on his face. Vort attention back to the audience. "Alright, fellas, disperse and back to work!" they audience dispersed themselves and left the area, still murmuring and whispering about the duel. His attention turned to both duelist.
"Good display of skills. Clean yourself up, Mole. Kuvira let's go," Vort said as Kuvira returned her metal plate and armguard to one of the earthbender.
"Of course, sir," replied Mole. His face turned to Kuvira as he stretched his hand. "That is a good fight," he said grinning.
"You're good as well, Mole," she said with a small smile shaking his hand. "Pardon me, I must join the Commander now," she said to Mole.
"See you next time though," Mole uttered.
"Looking forward to it," Kuvira answered, but before she walked to Nilo and Vort, she faced Mole and a bit hesitant until, "I'm sorry for my action towards Earth Kingdom, I..." She interrupter by Mole himself.
He sighed. "It's okay, even though your action is hard to forgive, we all here are willing to give you a change, and you seemed determined for it,".
"Thank you, I will redeemed my mistakes and error in the past," she said with a bow of apologize. Mole bowed too as she stand up again. She nodded and left him in the circle.
As she walked to Vort and Nilo. Once she near them, Nilo congratulated her. "That was awesome!" exclaimed Nilo as she put her hands on both of Kuvira's shoulders.
"Thank you for the compliment," Kuvira replied simply even though inside she felt excited and happy with it.
"Now let's go, you must rest and clean up," Vort told them as they walked again. Not long, they arrived in one of small bungalow complex. They walked to one of the bungalow with designated number 127. Vort pulled a key from one of his pocket and opened the door.
"This is your place during your stay here, there are food in the fridge in the kitchen with dining table if you hungry, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms, a living room with a book shelf, and a storage. A perfect place for single person, anything else?" Vort asked.
"Yes, how I contact you?" Kuvira asked.
"There is manual book that explained all about the house mechanism, including its devices," said Nilo pointed to the book on the table. "There also clothes in the wardrobe in the bedroom, so you can use it," Nilo finished.
"Nilo will pick you up tomorrow at 8 o'clock in the morning, so get rest and sleep tight, good night" said Vort as he waved his hand and walked to the front door. Nilo followed and waved her hand to her.
"Good night! Sleep well!" she exclaimed grinned. Kuvira waved her hand and closed the door. She looked around the house and impressed with it. She undressed herself, took a towel, and went to the bathroom. Finished taking a bath, she looked for a clothes and choose a simple grey t-shirt and short.
She laid on her bed and thinking about everything that happened today as slowly went to the land of dream, waiting what will happened tomorrow.
