Data approached Wesley in Ten-Foward one evening. The teenager was in better spirits than he had when he'd had his conversation with Guinan.
"Hello, Wesley. I wanted to say that I am glad you decided to stay on the Enterprise," Data said.
"Me too, Data," Wesley said. "I know I'm going to miss my mom but I love being here on the ship."
"I believe that I will miss your mother as well," Data said. He looked away for a moment. "I do not think Dr. Pulaski likes me very much."
"Oh, really? What makes you say that?"
"She mispronounced my name and then seemed confused by the concept that I have such things as preferences."
Wesley frowned. "Huh. Well, I'm sure she'll come around soon. That is," he added, seeing Data's confusion, "she'll get used to you soon."
"Hmm," Data said. "I hope so."
