"So Mr. LaForge worked on updating your security, isn't that right?" Picard asked Data in the captain's ready-room.

"Yes, I just came from engineering. Geordi said that what happened with Graves should not happen again, though no firewall is one-hundred percent accurate, of course."

"Good, I'm glad to hear it."

"May I ask why you called me here, Captain?" Data asked.

"Well..." Picard said, trailing off. He looked pointedly at the android. "I was just concerned about you. I know you said you don't remember when Graves was... possessing you, but I'm sure it must have been shocking to learn what he had done. Are you doing alright?"

Data blinked. "I do not know how I am doing, sir. But you are correct – I did realize that he wished to use me in some way right before he shut me off. It was betrayal and it made me uneasy."

Picard shook his head. "That's understandable."

"I did realize something, though. When Graves and I were talking, he had asked if I had desires. I told him no. I understand now that this is incorrect. I do have desires. I wanted to serve in Starfleet so I did what I needed to do in order to achieve it. I want to understand humor, so I am trying my best to learn about it in whatever way that I can."

"Yes," the captain said with a hint of a smile. "Of course, Data. Just because your wants aren't driven by an emotional need doesn't make them less valid."

"Correct."

"You are dismissed, Data."

Data got up, but turned back before leaving. "Thank you for your concern, Captain. And... for saving me."

Picard nodded. "Certainly."
