"You called for me?" Pulaski asked, entering Captain Picard's ready-room.
"Yes," Picard said, nodding solemnly. "And I'm sure you're aware for what reason." He pushed a PADD on his desk toward her.
"Let me guess," the doctor said, "I need to make a report on Darwin Station to send to Starfleet." She paused. "So the scientists can be tried in an interplanetary court for illegal genetic engineering."
"Exactly. I would have addressed it earlier, but the immediate aging crisis took precedent."
"Law seems a bit outside of your jurisdiction anyhow, Captain."
"You'd be surprised," Picard said, "but no, this isn't my case to investigate."
Pulaski took the PADD and turned to leave but looked back at the captain. "It really is a shame," she said.
"What? That genetic engineering on sentient lifeforms is banned?"
The doctor shrugged. "Sometimes the rewards outweigh the risks, don't they? The children at the Darwin lab weren't unhappy, after all."
Picard was slightly appalled by Pulaski's opinion. "If it's all the same to you, Doctor, I'd prefer you kept those sorts of thoughts to yourself."
"Whatever you say, Captain."
