Data entered the captain's ready-room, a PADD in his hand. "Here are the records of the trial as requested, sir, in both video recording and transcribed files." The android set the PADD on Picard's desk and paused. "I have to admit that it was strange acting as stenographer at my own hearing, but it made sense."
Picard nodded. "I'm sure you did an excellent job. I have been wondering something though, Mr. Data."
"What do you wish to know?"
"You seem to harbor no ill-will toward Bruce Maddox. Why is that?"
Data thought for a moment. "I have no reason to believe that Maddox has ever been malicious in his research. He has feared me, yes. He believed by separating me from my personhood that he could make himself feel more comfortable with my existence. However, it merely made him more aggressive."
Picard nodded. "That's a very interesting perspective."
"I can only hope that my trial has convinced him to be less assertive in his scientific approach. I was not lying when I said that I was intrigued by his proposals."
The captain smiled a little. "Thank you for explaining it to me, Mr. Data."
"Certainly, sir."
