"Hi Mom!" Wesley said, trying to sound cheerful on the video recording he was planning on sending to his mother. "Things are doing okay here. We ended up transporting a girl and her, uh, governess to her home planet. Uhhh..." He swallowed nervously. Shaking his head, he said, "Computer, end recording. Delete recording."

This was at least the fifth time he'd tried to record the video, and his job wasn't getting any easier. His door alert dinged. "Come in."

It was Data. Wesley had forgotten all about their meeting to play some 3D chess. "Hello," Data said. "Did you forget that we were going to meet?"

The teenager sighed. "Not exactly. I got distracted. You see, my mom makes me send her a weekly video and I'm having trouble this week. I want to tell her about Salia but I'm just afraid that I won't convey what I'm feeling in the right way."

Data blinked before saying, "If I may offer some advice, Wesley?"

Wesley hesitated. Most of Data's "advice" regarding social situations ended up being unhelpful or sanitized. "Sure," he finally said, "why not."

"Perhaps you do not need to tell your mother about it in this message. The situation between yourself and Salia seems complicated and emotional, and anyhow, we will be within video-call range of Starfleet Medical Headquarters within two weeks. You could discuss it then."

Wesley thought about it for a moment before smiling. "Hey, that's actually good advice, Data."

"Really?" the android asked, seemingly surprised in spite of himself. "I am glad to be able to help."

Still smiling, Wesley shut down his console. "I'll deal with the video later. Now, how about that 3D chess?"
