Jane's mother answered the door, for an old women dressed like a witch. "Are you from Hogwarts," she asked?
"Yes," the women answered.
"Come in," Jane's mother said, moving out of the way of the door.
The women walked in, and Jane's mother closed the door.
Jane looked at the women, and the women looked at her.
"You must be Jane," the women said.
Jane nodded.
"It's nice to meet you Jane," the women said, holding out a hand for some reason. "I'm Professor McGonagall."
"It's nice to meet you too," Jane said.
Jane watched as Professor McGonagall and her mother greeted each other. When they shook hand she realized why Professor McGonagall had held out her hand, and Jane mentally scolded herself.
They sat down and discussed what Jane and her mother already knew about the magical world from the Longbottoms and Hogwarts. Jane couldn't help but feel a bit infantilized when her mother turned the conversation to being worried about Jane going away to school, and Jane's Asperger's. The Asperger conversation even took a while, because Professor McGonagall did not know what Asperger's was, so Jane's mother had to explain. To Jane's relief, Professor McGonagall claimed that she didn't think it would be much of an issue.
One afternoon, Jane and Neville were in Neville's room, when Neville grabbed a box off a shelf and opened it. There were two wands inside. "So Jane," he said, "when someone doesn't have use for their wand anymore their family members inherit it, and sometimes the wand will choose a new master. I inherited my parent's wands, and my father's wand chose me." He pulled a wand out and handed it to Jane. "This is probably a long shot but this is my mother's wand."
Jane took it and looked at it.
"Wave it," Neville urged.
"Are you sure," Jane asked?
Neville nodded.
Facing toward the door, Jane waved the wand. The door opened, and then the wand practically lit up.
"What are you two doing," Mrs. Longbottom asked, walking into the doorway? She then stared at Jane and gasped.
"Mom's wand just picked Jane," Neville exclaimed! "Isn't that great?"
Mrs. Longbottom smiled and rolled her eyes in disbelief. "Oh, my," she said.
