The Torch of Zorro is no ordinary Zorro story; it's a book about loss, grief, and discovering what makes us human—all lessons I learned when my brother died in August 2021. Ever since then, I have wanted to write a story about grief, to help those experiencing it know they are not alone, even if it's through fanfiction.

Aside from the personal side of this story, the inspiration for it also came when I was watching Disney's Zorro one day, and I asked myself, "I wonder what would happen if Zorro actually killed someone?" As soon as I thought that, I turned off the show and drafted an outline for this book. "A story about grief?" I wondered. "Well, this is perfect!"

In studying the show and being a lifelong Zorro fan (ever since I was a small child), I know that Zorro's weakness is that if something happens to the people he's trying to protect, he's not going to take it well. After all, he's only human, which is what I'm trying to show in this hero/superhero story. Young Diego de la Vega has flaws—I've seen them—but I'm expanding on them to give my readers an experience like none other.

I love to create original stories for my fanfictions, leading my readers to forget that they're even reading one. It's the power of writing and is something I've been practicing since 4th grade, with my first stories being Star Wars and Pokémon fanfics. So… yeah, I have a lot of experience in this genre. Because it's so nostalgic to me, I can't just let it go, even though I'm writing more original stories now. My writing is meant to appeal to all types of audiences. It's why I write in so many different genres and styles and why I'm a Creative Writing Major in the first place.

All this is to say that I hope you guys will treasure this beloved Zorro story and understand that there is so much you can do with fanfiction. All it takes is a good, original plot, and you will be good to go!
