Jane walked into the great hall, with the other Hufflepuffs. While the others sat down, she looked toward the Gryffindor table and walked up to Neville. "Neville, did you find out what happened to the missing boys," she asked?

"Yeah. Apparently, the barrier closed right before they tried to run through it. They somehow managed to get to Hogwarts themselves, in Mr. Weasley's flying car. They got in big trouble, but they're okay, other than Ron's wand breaking."

"There are flying cars?"

"That's actually the only flying car I've ever heard of."

"Well, thanks for telling me," Jane said before she went to join the other Hufflepuffs.

"Did you hear what happened with Harry and Ron," Justin asked?

"Yeah, apparently..."

In Potions class, everyone had to work in pairs. There was an odd number of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw students, so Jane and Luna ended up together. They didn't mind.

Luna skipped to the table to get ingredients, and then skipped back.

Jane noticed that some of the ingredients had a strong smell. She unclipped the nose clip, from her earplug chain, and put it on. She was glad that she had been warned that some of her classes would involve dealing with smelly stuff. She didn't use to carry a nose clip, because her smell sensitivities weren't as bad as her auditory sensitivities.

"Miss Lovegood," Snape shouted, "Ten points from Ravenclaw for your reckless skipping."

When Snape raised his voice, Jane went from fidgeting to fidgeting excessively.

"Miss Birtch, the only reason you're not losing points for your insane fidgetiness is that I was told that I'm not allowed to punish you for that, because apparently, you're some sort of feeb."

Jane cringed. Neville had warned her that Professor Snape was mean, but she was not expecting that.

Kevin looked at Professor Snape. "What the hell!" he exclaimed.

"Mr. Womzie, ten points from Hufflepuff, for talking back to your professor."

Jane trembled and breathed deeply. Eventually, she managed to calm down. She looked up at Luna, who had started working on the potion. "Sorry about that," Jane said.

"It's alright," Luna said.

"Are you okay, Jane?" Sasha, one of the other Hufflepuff girls, asked.

Jane nodded, noticing that several of her classmates were looking at her.

Jane's other classes all went better. She did not like Professor Lockhart or Professor Binns, but they were both better than Professor Snape. At least they weren't mean.
