Neville and Jane walked along the grounds, looking for a good tree branch.

"So, Ron can't do any magic with his broken wand. Some of the other boys find it funny, but I just find it sad."

"Poor Ron. He probably deserves some consequence for that car thing, but that's pretty severe. Too bad you can't just use any old wand."

"Actually I think you can, it just wouldn't work as well, which gives me an idea."

Once they found a good tree branch, they tossed the ropes of the swings over it. Neville used a charm to tie the ropes to the branch.

Jane sat down on her swing. "So, what's your idea?"

"Well, my Gran has multiple old family wands lying around. Maybe I should write to her to send me one, which I could lend him."

"That's nice," Jane said, as she started swinging.

Days later, Neville opened a package, containing an old wand. He also got a letter.

Dear Neville,

This is the wand of your late Great Uncle Henry. I didn't have a good relationship with him, so I don't care about it that much, but I'm still only reluctantly agreeing to lend it to a twelve-year-old I don't know, who just let his own wand get broken. Be sure you remind him to be careful with it and give it back at the end of the year.

Love,

Gran

That evening, in their dormitory, Neville told Ron and handed him the wand.

Ron smiled and took it. "Thanks, Neville."

The next morning, Neville went up to Jane, at the Hufflepuff table. "I lent him the wand. He was very excited by it."

Jane smiled. "Good," she said.
