Jeremy Aster had asked specifically for his mother's memorial to be open-casket. Though Counselor Troi expressed concern, it was allowed because of the incident with the alien after her death.
Jeremy looked down at his mother's body in the casket. The coroner had attempted to make it look presentable, but the wound that killed Jeremy's mother was still clearly visible. "I thought she would look like she was sleeping," he said aloud, almost to himself.
"The brave rarely do, in death," a gruff voice behind Jeremy said. It was Worf in dress uniform. "And your mother was brave." Worf led Jeremy away from his mother's casket. "I hear you will going back to Earth to live with your aunt and uncle."
"Yeah," Jeremy said.
"We will keep in touch. You may write me at any time."
It was not a suggestion; it was a promise.
