Data appeared in the doorway of the captain's ready-room. Picard, sitting at his desk, looked up from his PADD. "Oh, Data," he said. "I forgot we were going to meet in the holodeck for Shakespeare today."

The android looked as though he were somehow expecting that response. "It is quite alright, sir."

Exhaustion showed clearly on Picard's face. "You know," he said, "when tragedy happens in a story, there is always something to be learned. A lesson to be remembered. But when the tragedy happens in real life, it's just tragic." The captain glanced at the special PADD on his desk, the one with Jarok's suicide note on it. He hadn't had the heart to put it away yet; the heartbreak was still too raw.

Picard sighed and looked back up at Data. "Next week," he promised, doing his best to put on a smile. "I'll look forward to seeing you perform then."
