Data was temporarily alone at the bar in Ten Forward, waiting for Geordi. Guinan walked over to him. "You know," she said, "I'm a little embarrassed that I lost my temper when Q was here."

"Why is that?"

"I have a reputation to uphold," she said, her voice somewhat stony. "Although," she added, "there have been less fights around here lately since that happened."

"Unsurprising," Data observed.

Guinan gave the android a curious look. "Q is very lucky indeed to have you as a friend. I think this whole business was the first time he ever even had to consider the consequences of his actions. Maybe it'll do him some good."

Data raised his eyebrows. "I still do not understand how my actions could have affected him in such a manner. I was merely performing my duties."

Shaking her head, Guinan replied, "Well, in this case, I suppose you were the only one who really could. All the rest of us were... clouded by our feelings toward Q – with good reason."

Data nodded and said. "It is extremely unlikely that my behavior impressed anything positive upon him, but I would be glad were it the case."

Guinan laughed a little as she walked away to serve a patron at the other end of the bar. "You're always such an optimist, Data."
