Professor Dumbledore stood up, in the great hall right before dinner. "I have just received an owl, from the trial, and am pleased to announce that the trial went great, and Buckbeek is clear of all charges."

Just then, the doors opened and the students who had gone as witnesses walked it. People cheered, so loudly that Jane put her earplugs in, but then she found herself cheering too.

It was time for second years to pick their electives for third year. Jane was pretty sure that she wanted to take Care of Magical Creatures, as she loved animals and the outdoors, but she had no idea what other elective to take. She asked Neville and Hermione for advice.

"Don't take Divination," Hermione said. "I dropped it, because the teacher is crazy, and the class is totally bogus."

"Well, that's disappointing. Predicting the future sounds cool."

"The teacher does make some accurate predictions," Neville said. "She's not a good teacher though, although she's better than Snape or Lockhart."

"Arithmancy is a much better way of predicting the future," Hermione said. "It's pretty challenging too, and you get to do math."

"I'm horrible at math, so I don't think that's for me."

"Ancient Runes is fascinating, although a bit hard. You get to read ancient text.

"Muggle Studies is pretty fascinating too. It's muggle life, but it's from the perspective of wizards so you'll still get to learn stuff. I might drop it next year though because taking so many classes is so hectic."

Jane was unsure whether or not to take Ancient Runes or Muggle Studies as her second elective. She decided to take them both. If Ancient Runes was too hard, she could always drop it.
