"How are you doing this evening, Guinan?" Data asked at the bar.

Guinan sighed, wondering if she should be honest with the android. "You know," she said at last, "I miss Lal."

Data was quiet for a moment before saying, "I miss her as well. I have incorporated her memories into my system, of course, but it is not the same as..." He trailed off, for once at a loss for words.

"Her physical presence?" Guinan offered.

"Yes, exactly," Data said, nodding.

"Did you keep anything that she had attachment to? A memento, perhaps?"

"Lal did not develop any attachments to objects when she was alive, but I kept her favorite outfit, and also saved a pattern of the clothing to the ship's computer banks."

Guinan smiled sadly. "I'm glad you found some tangible way to remember her by. You did good by her, Data. You were a good father."

The android looked up at the bartender, his eyebrows raised. "I hope that is true."
