Data walked out of the transporter room, leaving Riker holding the disruptor.
O'Brien looked hesitant. "Can I say something off-the-record, sir?"
Riker raised his eyebrows but said, "Go ahead."
"If you ask me, that Fajo guy got extremely lucky."
Riker looked at the disruptor in his hand. It felt heavy with the shot that hadn't blasted in the nick of time.
Data was a friend and Riker had no reason to ever get on his bad side, but it was a clear reminder that even an android could be pushed too far. "Agreed," the commander finally said.
