Chapter 9

Callie's POV

Today was the last "formal" press day. The rest of the press would take place intermittently and out on the course during the tournament. After today everyone really had the opportunity to take a breath and just enjoy the hotel and Miami before The Race started on Sunday. While it was only Wednesday the last two days had been so hectic. Callie couldn't wait to be able to have a few days without anything formally planned. Yeah, she had to make sure everyone stayed satisfied. But there were no dinners or press things to organize. She was grateful for the partnership and staff the PGA had sent in to help. If this were any other hotel the only person who would have been assisting coordinating would be the hotel manager. This was The Calliope though. Callie was hands on in everything. She was one of those people who didn't delegate well. It was a blessing and a curse.

As Callie walked into the room where the press event was happening something felt off. It was really quiet, unlike the last press day. She looked around and all the golfers were at their tables. A few were talking to different members of the press, but the majority of the press stood around an empty table. When she looked closer, she notices who the empty table belonged to…Arizona Robbins. Now Callie knew that she didn't know Arizona that well, but she didn't really seem like someone who would miss anything or be 15 minutes late.

Callie grabbed her phone and dialed Mark's number. He answered on the second ring.

"Sloan. What's up?"

"Hey Mark, have you seen Arizona Robbins? She isn't at her press table and it looks like the majority of the press here are waiting for her."

"No, I haven't. Last I saw her I introduced her to Aria and then she headed outside. I will head outside and see if I see her. Hold on one sec."

Callie was annoyed. Who didn't show up to something like this? The fact Arizona was now sponsored by The Torre's Company made her absence something that she took personally. She would have to talk to her father about this.

On the other line she heard some commotion and strained to listed.

"Shit! Cal! I found Robbins. She is by the pool. Sof fell in while they were waiting for Aria. Get out here NOW!

Callie was sprinting out the door before Mark could even finish his sentence. She ran out the side employee door that took her right to the pool area. When she busted through the door and the sight before her made her heart drop.

Arizona POV

*SPLASH* *Screaming* When she turned her head, she no longer saw three little girls standing by the pool. She only saw two. They looked to be twins and they were yelling. But what made her freeze was the fact they were not only screaming but they were pointing down into the water.

Arizona took off towards the pool. The outside gate was locked. What the hell? She saw the sign that said "Please use hotel entrance" on the gate. She didn't have time to think, she just saw a flower planter next to the gate and climbed up it. She jumped over the gate and sprinted towards the edge of the pool. When she got to there she saw her. A little girl with long dark hair face down in the pool. Arizona yelled to the other girls standing near "Go inside and get help!" Once the words left her mouth, she didn't think, she dove in. When she got to the little girl, she grabbed her and started swimming towards the edge.

Arizona's clothes were making swimming back to the edge a bit harder than normal. She was running on pure adrenaline at this point. Once she got to the edge, she hoisted the little girl up and quickly followed. When she knelt down next to the unconscious girl and then froze. 'Shit. Is she breathing?' Arizona put her head to the girl's chest and heard a heart beat but it didn't seem like the little girl was breathing. Just then she heard someone bust through the door. She looked up and saw Mark sprinting towards her Aria and the twins close behind. Arizona lifted the little girl's chin and started CPR. She briefly heard commotion next to her and something that sounded like "Sofia" but she was focused on the task at hand. After a few more breaths and what felt like forever the little girl started to cough up water.

"Sofia!" She heard someone scream. When she looked up, she saw Callie sprinting towards her.

"Mami!" The little girl croaked as tears were streaming down her face. Arizona heard the faint sound of sirens in the background.

"What happened? Baby are you okay?" Callie was frantic.

Sofia just sat there, still coughing and crying. She just stared at Callie. Clearly terrified. So, Arizona spoke up.

"I was walking back towards the hotel and I saw her and two other girls standing by the pool. As soon as I turned the corner, I heard a splash and some screaming. So, I ran this way. That is when I saw Sofia in the pool face down and sent the other girls for help. I assume she inhaled a decent amount of water because she wasn't in there for long. I got here as quick as I could."

Callie just stared at Arizona. "You jumped in and got her out?"

"Well yeah. I am the only other one currently drenched." Arizona tried to joke.

Just then Callie flung herself at Arizona and hugged her so hard she fell backward.

"Oh my gosh, Arizona THANK YOU so much. Thank you!"

"It is really no sweat. I am just glad I was here."

They were interrupted when 2 paramedics came through the door Mark had entered. With the paramedics came a handful of people who were inside and heard the commotion. Then Arizona noticed they were members of the press.

"Shit. The press thing." Arizona mumbled. She stood up and looked at Callie.

"I am going to head back inside. There are people with cameras, and I am willing to bet this is going to be some sort of story. I will give you guys some privacy." Arizona walked away before Callie had a chance to respond.

When Arizona walked inside, she was met with cheers, applause, and the flashing of cameras. This is not how she expected the day to go. Teddy and Tim ran up to her. Tim ushered here to the elevator to head back upstairs. It wasn't until then that Arizona noticed that her pants were ripped, and her leg was bleeding.

As she was walking away, she heard Teddy handing the media. 'Thank goodness for Teddy' she thought as the elevator door closed. She knew this was going to be a big story. As much as that bothered her, she couldn't help but be grateful that it seemed Sofia would be fine. She was ready for a shower and a nap.

Callie's POV

Callie sat in the back of the ambulance holding Sofia. She couldn't believe how this day had turned out. One minute she is thinking how grateful she is that she would have a less hectic few days, the next she is sitting in the back of ambulance with her daughter. Aria was following the ambulance while Mark stayed back with Allegra and Aurora. They pulled up to the ambulance bay and Callie carried Sofia into the ER.

She listened as the paramedics relayed what happened to the ER doctor. Sofia seemed okay but she agreed with the paramedics that she should go in and get checked out. Once they were placed in a room Aria walked in.

"Sof, bebita. Are you okay!?" Aria rushed to hug Sofia.

"Well Aria…she is sitting in the ER after a stranger just pulled her out of the pool and gave her CPR. Does that sound OKAY to you?" Callie was pissed. She left Sofia with her sister and then learned that the 3 little girls were unattended by the pool long enough for this to happen.

"Cal, I went inside to grab towels. Before I went back inside in the girls were sitting on the chairs and were told NOT to go near the pool until I got back." Aria was now crying right along with Sofia.

"Tia Aria, I-I-I am s-s-sorry we went by the water. Allegra dropped her Barbie in and we were just looking into the water at i-i-t." Sofia said between sobs.

"Sofia we will talk about this later. All that matters is that you are okay bebita."

Callie took a deep breath. She knew how the girls could be. Aria shouldn't have left them alone by the water but this could have just as easily happened to her.

"Aria. It is fine. She is okay. Sorry I screamed. I have never been that scared in my life."

"Cal I would be yelling at you too. I called Daddy on the way here and told him what happened. He is going to handle the rest of the stuff at The Calliope today. He also said Arizona called him to ask about Sofia. I told him we would update him when we knew something. But he sent me her number and I texted it to you."

Over the course of the next few hours doctors came and went. All of the doctors assured Callie that Sofia was fine. She had chest x-rays to make sure there was no lingering water in her lungs, and countless other tests. By the time they left it was dark outside. Sofia had successfully charmed every single doctor and managed 3 cups chocolate pudding in her short stay. They arrived back at Callie's house and she settled Sofia in her bed. Callie knew the doctor's said she was fine, but she needed to have Sofia close tonight. Once Sofia was asleep Callie snuck out of her room and plopped down onto the couch.

What. . At this point she couldn't wait for The Race to be over and done with. She was burnt out and it had only been two days. Just then she remembered that Arizona had asked about Sofia. That had been hours ago. She pulled out her phone and sent a text to the number Aria had sent her.

Hi, this is Callie. I wanted to send you a text and let you know that Sofia is okay. She is sleeping right now and somehow turned her tragedy into 3 cups of chocolate pudding.

She walked into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of wine and she heard her phone vibrate on the side table. She smiled when she saw it was from Arizona.

Hi Calliope. 3 cups of chocolate pudding for a near drowning seems like a fair deal, right? :p – Arizona

The fact that she could laugh about this with the blonde was something she didn't know she needed right now.

If I were you, I would be offended she didn't save one for you. You did save her life and all. Which by the way, I will never be able to say thank you enough. – Calliope

She received an immediate reply.

Well I wasn't going to say anything but….. chocolate is my favorite. Tell her she owes me a pudding. Also, no need to thank me. I am just really glad she is okay. -AZ

Callie sat there for a moment and just couldn't believe how much worse things could have been had Arizona not acted so fast. She seriously owed the blonde.

Next time you see me, there will be chocolate. Maybe not pudding, but I think I remember seeing your brother heading up with something from the bakery this morning. I will hand deliver one of our chef's famous brownies. They are much better than hospital pudding ;).

Callie realized she was flirting with the blonde who saved her daughter after one of the most traumatizing days of her life. What did that say about her?

Count me in for a brownie! I think it will hold me over until we go dancing. I do have to head off to bed though. I have to do a media make up day and do a walkthrough of the course with Timmy tomorrow. I am glad Sofia is okay. Looking forward to seeing you, brownie in hand Calliope. Sweet dreams xoxo - Arizona

Yup. There was something wrong with her. This blonde had her captivated. She finished her wine and made her way back to her bedroom. She fired off a quick good night to Arizona and snuggled into Sofia's side. She quickly fell asleep. That night she dreamed of a blonde-haired blue-eyed Arizona and Sofia swimming and laughing. A far cry from what had actually happened that day.
