A/N: The woman from the front desk and Penny are not the same person. I apologize I did not provide her name. She will come up later. The purpose of her name not being known is to kind of show how uninterested Arizona is. Sorry for the confusion!

Chapter 11
Day 1 of The Race - Sunday
Arizona's POV
Arizona had stayed in her suite for the last 2 days. She tended to do that before big tournaments. She only left to walk the course. She went with Tim 3 times and felt they had a good game plan. She didn't sleep at all last night and was so wired, she wasn't even tired. She heard the elevator ding and two voices coming her way. When she looked up, she saw Tim and Teddy laughing with each other.
"Morning guys. I have breakfast here if you two haven't had a chance to eat yet." Arizona pushed the cart full of food towards the center of the room.
"Hey sis! You ready for today? I am pumped. I know you must be in the zone considering I have only seen you to walk the course in the last 48 hours." Tim poured himself and Teddy a cup of coffee. Arizona noticed how he added cream and sugar to Teddy's coffee. Now Arizona wasn't a relationship expert, but she didn't even know how her last girlfriend took her coffee. Clearly something was happening between these two.
Arizona just smiled as Teddy accepted the cup and smiled at Tim. "Yeah I am ready. I actually got a bunch of new stuff to wear from Carlos on Friday. Some of the most comfortable golf clothes I have ever owned. There was some stuff for you and Teds too, it is over there on the table."
Teddy sat next to Arizona and rubbed her thigh. "How are you doing Arizona? I know you are ready but are you okay? We all know this is big, so I want to check in with you before things start to get crazy." She loved that Teddy wasn't just her manger. She genuinely cared about Arizona.
"Teds, I promise I am good. I tee off at 1 so I have a few hours. I am really just glad that my partner today is Karev. I think that may be why I am not freaking out. Seriously, eat some breakfast."
Arizona, Teddy and Tim spent the next hour or so just talking about the competitors and the course. They Face Timed her parents who were set to arrive tomorrow. It was all very relaxed. Arizona knew that this little bubble she had been in for the last few days was about to pop. The second she walked onto that course; it was going to get nuts. Tim and Teddy left at about noon. They agreed to meet in the lobby at 12:45 and then head out.
Arizona did her typical pre round ritual. Showered, stretched, and ate her chocolate glaze donut. Though the donut was good, she couldn't deny that the brownies Callie had delivered Thursday afternoon sounded better at the moment. She dressed in her new gear, courtesy of Carlos Torres, and headed to the elevator. Here we go she thought. Now was the time to shine.
Callie's POV
Callie had an eventful two days. She enjoyed her unexpected child free evening on Thursday and just relaxed for the first time in she didn't remember how long. She would be lying if she said Arizona turning her down for dinner didn't hurt. Probably more than it should have. She didn't even give her time to explain that Penny was not her girlfriend. However, what's done is done.
Friday was a blur. She spent the whole day with Sofia and honestly hadn't had that much fun with her daughter in a really long time. She missed time just the two of them and seeing how much Sofia had matured over the last few months really made Callie proud. As Callie suspected the Abuelo Sofia day produced more toys than she knew what to do with. When Friday night rolled around Callie could not shake the feeling of how much she didn't want to be going on the date with Penny. She really just wanted to snuggle up with Sofia, eat pizza, and watch movies. But Callie was not one to blow people off.
The date was okay. The dinner was nice, conversation flowed nicely. But when Penny went to kiss her at the end of the night Callie felt nothing. Just like that day in the lobby. They had since spoke and although Penny was clearly bummed, she understood when Callie said they were better off as friends.
Now it was the morning of The Race and Callie had about a million things to do. The first golfers teed off at 11 and she was going to coordinating all day. Fans are going to showing up early and Callie had to make sure that everything was ready to go. So now, at 7am on a Sunday, Callie was finishing up packing Sofia's bag for the week so she could drop her at Aria'. She did plan to have dinner with Sofia on Wednesday. She couldn't go a week without seeing her daughter. No matter how busy she was.
As Callie was preparing, she was also debating. Should she send Arizona a "good luck" text? Were they even on speaking terms anymore? She hadn't seen the blonde since she walked out of the café without so much as a goodbye. Callie had racked her brain about that conversation so many different times. Was Arizona upset at the idea of Callie having a girlfriend? Why would she care? Clearly there had been flirting, that was reciprocated from both sides. She didn't even give Callie a chance to speak after she wrongly called Penny Callie's girlfriend. Every time she though about it she would get mad. She knew she shouldn't care that much but she was really looking forward to getting to know Arizona bit better.
Once Sofia was fed, selected two stuffed animals to join her at Arias, and they went over water safety for the twentieth time, she was dropped off at Aria's for the week. Callie thanked Aria and noticed a certain Black BMW driving away as she was pulling up. She couldn't help but smile because that particular BMW belonged to a certain hotel manager that Aria swore "noting was going on" with.
Callie would be spending more than enough time with Mark this week and she would be getting the full story there. As she pulled up to The Calliope, she saw that the place was already crawling with people. They were booked to capacity and the hotel was buzzing. As she handed her keys to the valet, he gave her a big smile. She had to assume they were doing pretty well this week. Callie was met with hellos and good mornings from golfers she had gotten to know over the last week or so. Everyone on the tour was kind and professional. They sure beat some of the other sports teams that come through here.
Callie walked into the main office are and saw Mark putting his stuff down.
"Goooood Morning Mark. How was your evening?" Callie gave him a sly grin.
"Morning Torres. It was good. Uneventful really." Mark avoided eye contact. Callie had known Mark forever. He knew he couldn't lie to her.
"Oh, that's good. Funny story. I was dropping Sof at Aria's this morning and I saw the most beautiful Black BMW driving down her street as I was headed to her house. Looked an awful lot like yours. Not many people tint their windows as dark as you." Callie just waited for a response. Mark sheepishly looked up at her.
"Listen, Torres I was going to tell you. Aria wanted to tell you, but we didn't want you to get mad. We know it is such a big week. I promi- "
Callie cut him off. "Mark. It's fine. Honestly, I like the idea of you two together. I just need you to understand that Aria has been through some shit. Her ex-husband is the worst and her and my nieces need someone who understands that she is a mom first. I am not saying you have to marry her tomorrow. I am just reminding you this isn't a joke." Mark had been on the receiving end of many rants Callie had went off on about Aria's ex-husband. This wasn't news to him. But Aria was her sister and she needed him to understand.
"Torres listen. I like Aria. I realllly like her. I also love Aurora and Allegra. I have known them since they were babies. I am not saying I am going to marry her tomorrow. But this is not a joke to me. I promise."
Callie loved Mark and the idea that a guy as good as him was dating her sister. Well, that took one worry off her plate.
"You know the whole you hurt her I kill you think so I won't even say it. Plus…it is not really me you have to worry about. You should remember who her father is." Callie winked as she walked out of the room. Leaving a frozen Mark behind her.
Arizona's POV
As Arizona was walking out onto the course, she was met with camera flashes left and right. She stopped along the way signing autographs and meeting fans. That was her favorite part of tournaments, getting to meet the fans. She was wearing her new pink polo that proudly had "The Torres Company" across the back, along with white pants, white shoes, and her signature worn pink hat. Carlos Torres somehow managed to get the pink polo the exact shade as her old sun worn hat. Many sponsors tried to get her to change her hat, but she just couldn't. Her father gifted her this hat the day of her first golf competition, and she refused to use anything else.
As she was walking to the golfer's tent, she was stopped by someone yelling "Hey, Robbins". When she turned around, she saw Preston Burke and George O'Malley. The #1 and #2 golfers in the world at the moment. She had heard stories about these two. How they treated 'newcomers' so she actively tried to avoid them. She was successful up until that moment.
"George, Preston, how are you two today? Ready to get started?" She flashed her fakest dimple smile at them.
"Yes, Ms. Robbins we are ready to get this show on the road. I am sorry we haven't seen you around sooner. Looks like you have been busy saving drowning children and such. We have been on the course practicing. You know, we did have to earn our spot here." Burke said making sure to let Arizona know exactly how he felt.
"Yeah. Some of us don't have the luxury of being brought in for viewers and a nice story." George chimed in.
Arizona debated how she wanted to respond. Did she kill them with kindness, or did she just let them have it? She didn't have time to decide because as she was opening her mouth someone beat her to it.
"Burke, and Burke Jr.! Not giving Robbins a hard time are ya? Would hate for anyone to overhear how you guys are harassing our newest golfer." Alex Karev put his arm around Arizona and she just couldn't get over how much she loved this guy.
"Oh Karev. Sleeping with the fresh meat already? I thought you would at least have the decency to wait until the second day of the tournament. I can't lie I am a bit upset you beat me to it." Burke shot a wink at Arizona.
At that, she was done.
"Okay. So first of all, I am standing right here. So, if you want to speak about me, speak TO ME. Second, unless you all have some hidden secret and are not actually men – none of you will be sleeping with me. I have zero interest in any of you. Just so we are clear. And Third, I don't know why the hell you two have an issue with me but let's just see what the scores look like on Friday." She turned around and walked away without looking back.
As she took in the crowd, she couldn't help but to think back to the first tournament she ever competed in. She ended up finishing second, but she was hooked to competitive play from that moment. As she was daydreaming, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She didn't even have to look up to know it was Tim.
"Ready sis? You tee off in 5."
"Ready Timmy. Let's do this."
As she walked up to the first hole, she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She still had a few minutes until she was set to tee off. She pulled out her phone and opened the message that was waiting for her. She couldn't help but smile at the photo that was attached to the message. It was Sofia, wearing a bracelet that matched her own, smiling widely holding a sign that read "GOOD LUCK ARIZOOOOONA!". The text it was attached to read:
Your best friend wanted to say good luck. We are all rooting for you. I know you can do this. We will be thinking of you today. – Calliope.
Arizona felt more relaxed in that moment then she had all morning. Just then Alex walked up and slapped her back. "Lets do this Robbins!". Alex teed up, shot her a wink, and hit one of the cleanest drives Arizona had ever seen.
With that The Race was on….
A/N: The next few chapters will have a lot of golf involved but Callie and Arizona will also be interacting.
Told you all not to worry about Penny. I could never stand her. One review put it perfectly. She was never good enough for Callie in my opinion.
Also, I could never stand Burke and what O'Malley did to Callie with the whole Izzie situation really put him on my bad side
