When Nick got back to the hotel he changed into his joggers and lay down on the bed, he lifted his phone and called Amanda. She picked up at the 2nd ring. Hey you she said, is everything OK? why are you not with Zara? He smiled and said, hey nothing's wrong here. She's just had a long day and was too much excitement for her, I think. I put her to bed and came back to the hotel just. Anyway, never mind me, are you OK, what's wrong? why are you only awake?
She smiled, hey, hey calm down Nick, I'm fine. Me and Fin were at a case from 5.30am. She told him all about her day and told him about the Chief telling her to go home. Wow, he said, yeah, I know she replied. Anyway, enough about work. How was your day? He told her what they got up to, and then what his plans for tomorrow were. After 30mins he said, I'll let you get back to bed now, you need your sleep. She said yeah, I wish you were here with me though, and he said oh believe me, I wish I was with you too. They said their goodnights and Amanda went back to bed.
Amanda was up early on Christmas morning, feeling very refreshed and awake. She checked her phone, it was 7am, so she got ready and went for a jog. She came back just before 8am and made breakfast. She went and had a shower, got changed and then got her gifts together for going to Olivia's.
Just after 9 her phone started to ring….nooooo she groaned, please not work, answering the phone she said Rollins, "Feliz navidad hermosa!" Nick! she said excitedly "Feliz navidad baby" she smiled. He replied saying, Happy Christmas beautiful, she looked at her clock, why are you up so early babe, he replied, well with Zara going to bed really early last night Maria said she would more than likely be up extra early this morning, so I'm just getting ready to leave the hotel now, Maria said she'd try to keep her in bed until 7am, but I've told her to let her go if she can't. I've text her to say I'm on my way over, so I'll see when I get there. Amanda smiled and said hopefully she's still sleeping for you. And how's things with Maria, she felt a knot in her stomach, scared of what the answer would be. Nick picked up on her change of voice and he smiled, civil he replied. "No te preocupes mi amor nada está cambiando" English please Amaro, sorry he replied habit with being with the kids. She smiled at this, I said Don't worry my love, nothings changing. I've only got eyes for you Rollins so please don't worry. If anything, these few days away from you have confirmed that for me. She smiled again and said shyly, good, same here. He smiled and said oh by the way, thank you for my gift this morning. She smiled and said you like it? He said like it? I love it. The photo is already in my wallet and the key is on my keyring. So, what you up to this morning? Nothing, just getting ready to head to Liv's. I actually thought you were calling me in for a case. Well here's hoping there's nothing today. What time are you heading to Liv's at? She said I'll leave about 10. I'll call by the station just to check in and then head on over to hers. Hey babe can you do me a favour? he said. Yeah of course I can, what's up? He laughed and said, well something's up that you can't help with right at the minute and she smirked, Amaro stop it, that's not fair. He laughed saying tell me about it, Rollins, it's most definitely not fair. She could feel herself get a bit damp down below, what is it that I can help with then? Can you call by my house before heading to the station? I can't remember if I threw out the leftovers from the other night and don't want it to smell the place out. Yeah sure I've to call by and fold the washing anyway, and I'll set the timer for an hour earlier too while I'm there. Gracias cariño mio. What time's is your flight tonight to Florida? Just before 10pm so should arrive there tomorrow about 6am. Right OK, well give me a ring when you get to the airport, hopefully I'll not be working. OK no worries mi bonita. I'll let you go and get sorted. Have a lovely day mi cariño, you to nene she replied. He grinned you been learning some Spanish mi cariño? She smiled, maybe, I can't promise I'll remember all of it, and he replied, hey you're trying, that's the best gift of all. She replied, "Cuídate bebé, te extraño" (Take care baby, I miss you) he groaned. Rollins stop, you're turning me on big time here, and she laughed saying, not as turned on as I am right now. Oh, te extraño tanto (I miss you so much) he said, me too baby, not long now. They said their goodbyes and hung up.
It was just before 10. Right Rollins let's get going. She called into Nick's on the way, She walked in and headed straight to the kitchen, checked the fridge, yes Amaro, you did throw the leftovers out. She turned to go to the laundry room and sorted out their clothes. She folded his and sat them on his chest of drawers, she sat hers on his bed. Looking at his bed she said I may wash those sheets; they've seen some action this week. Smiling she stripped the bed and sat them into the machine. If I get a chance, I'll call by tonight and wash them. I can always call by tomorrow if needs be. She turned to head to the living room. When she walked out the door, she stopped dead in her tracks. There, in front of the Christmas tree was the most beautiful bunch of flowers she'd seen, and a Christmas balloon hovering above it. She walked over and looked at the card, her name was on it. She opened it up and read it. Te extraño tanto cariño, no puedo esperar para verte pronto. Feliz Navidad, todo mi amor, Nick xo Behind was another card saying "I miss you so much my darling, I can't wait to see you soon. Happy Christmas, all my love Nick xo She had tears in her eyes, OMG they're beautiful she said, almost crying. No-one had ever done something like this for her before, she could count on one hand how many times someone had bought her flowers. She took a photo of the flowers under the tree and lifted the cards and put them into her purse. She would carry these around all the time. She checked her phone. Just after 7, he'd be with Maria and Zara now. So, she sent a picture of her beside the flowers and said Thank you so much Nick, I miss you so much xxx
Almost immediately her phone rang, it was a video call. She answered, teary eyed and said hey you. He whispered, you like them? She whispered back like! I love them Nick, it's the most beautiful thing someone has done for me. He grinned saying well they're for a beautiful woman. He said, I just wish I was there to kiss those tears away, she said, aw they're happy tears baby, trust me. She then said, but how did you arrange this? I was here yesterday, he laughed and said oh don't worry about that, I did have a little help from Santa but I'm not saying anything. I'll tell you when I get home. She looked confused, and then worried, Nick, who have you told? And he said no-one, but honestly Amanda, don't worry, everything is fine. And everything will be fine I promise. He smiled and she relaxed a little. She said, why are you not at Maria's, he said I am. He turned he phone around and said Santa's been here too, but she's still upstairs. She laughed and he said, Maria's away up to wake her. Well I'll let you go and spend time with her baby. Thank you so much for the surprise. You're more than welcome mi bonita, talk to you later. They kissed their phones and hung up.
