She was dangerously beautiful.
That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I first saw Anna. Her reddish hair, her rosy cheeks, her incredible sea of freckles, her fleshy lips, the vigorous tone of her skin, the greenish hue in the middle of those huge blue eyes, the curved and pretty layer of eyelashes that framed her gaze, her nose upturned and petite, her sensual but not exaggerated curves, the naturalness in her movements, the sweetness of her voice, the sarcasm in her words, the sincerity in her way of biting her lip with concern for her sister, the freedom of thought and expression that she shed…
Ugh… She was really very dangerous.
She certainly looked like her sister. Her features made it clear that they shared much of her genetics. However, I had never seen a woman so different from Elsa. Where Elsa put cold and containment, Anna overflowed warmth and chaos. They were the night and the day sharing a house.
But there was one thing that was clear to me: if Elsa had to reject a few daring suitors every two weeks or so, Anna would have to reject (or accept) them on a daily basis. I seriously doubted that such a flower full of life traveled the world alone as her sister did. That overwhelming personality couldn't go unnoticed. Sure she was always surrounded by lots of noise, people, and laughter.
Or maybe I just imagined it all. After all, I had only seen her for a few minutes and couldn't tell what she really was like. In any case, if I didn't want to leave chastened that house, the best thing to do was to leave as soon as possible, after all, the fleeting weight of her body on mine was not going to be something easy to forget.
"Finally awake, sleeping spunky."
I slowly opened my eyes and found myself barely two palms from those eyes that were invading my dreams.
"Anna!"
"That's me," she said chuckling.
I sat up and felt a small blanket slide from my shoulders onto my lap.
"Did I fall asleep?"
"Just a couple of hours."
"Hours?! I'm sorry! I…"
"You don't have to. I thank you for all that you've helped us."
"How is Elsa feeling?"
"She's been asleep for a while."
"Fever?"
"38,4º C ten minutes ago, doctor."
"Oh… well, it's not too much."
"Yeah. It's down a bit since she fell asleep."
"Glad to hear it."
An awkward silence took hold of us as I struggled to clear my mind of everything that had invaded it since I saw her appear.
"I guess I should go now," I finally said, managing to articulate something with meaning.
"Not tonight, young man," she replied shaking her finger.
"Excuse me?"
"The snow of the century is falling. You're not going to hit the road."
"Don't worry about me, I got snow chains."
"And I already got a room prepared for you."
"Really?"
"I don't want to have to tell Elsa that her only friend has lost his life on the road after bringing her home for the first and last time."
"I'm not gonna kill myself."
"Nope, because you're not gonna leave."
"Anna…"
"Do you need to let someone know? I can explain it to them."
"No… no need to notify anyone. I live alone."
"Settled then. Is the third door on the right. The bathroom is the front door. And if you need anything, my room is next door. The one with the wooden door, the other is the laundry room: you won't find me there very often."
"It seems that someone has the makings of a leader…"
"Are you calling me bossy?" she asked with her hands on her hips pretending to be offended.
"Never with those words," I answered laughing.
"That says Mr. bring two basins, serum, and scalpel."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe I've gotten carried away a bit…" I replied rubbing the back of my neck, suddenly embarrassed.
Anna giggled and shook her head slowly.
"On the contrary. I appreciate it. If it were up to me, now Elsa would be cooked in her sauce wrapped in two duvets and some coral sheets full of vomit."
"Well, I've been through a few of those… I have quite internalized the process."
"I've been through them too, but when I get sick I just let myself be pampered. I don't pay attention to how."
"Isn't that okay? I mean, it's what everyone should do when they get sick."
"It's not what you do, apparently."
"More out of necessity."
"Oh… I'm sorry, then."
Her lowered eyelids made me feel foolishly guilty.
"You don't have to be sorry."
"Uh… Uhm… It's too late and I suppose you want to sleep."
I nodded feeling that my presence made her uncomfortable and walked slowly towards the hall.
"If you need anything, let me know, okay? Tomorrow, I'll make sure to let you know before I go."
"Okay. Have a nice rest, Kristoff."
Has my name ever sounded so fucking sensual?
"Same to you, Anna."
