It was a Hogsmeade weekend, in winter. Jane went into the bathroom, at Honeydukes, where a woman she didn't recognize (Alecto Carrow) was washing her hands. Jane went into the stall. She heard someone whisper, "patrificus totalus," and she fell over. Suddenly, her body bound together, and she could not move or scream for help.
Jane was put into a bag and carried out. She was so horrified, she could not even think.
In a graveyard, Jane was taken out of the bag. They then tied her to a tree, even though she could not move.
An unfamiliar man (Amycus Carrow) was there, and he was brewing a potion. He looked at her. "Don't worry little girl. We've messaged Neville to come and get you. Of course, I don't know that he would bother to come."
Jane finally managed to think a bit. She was sure Neville would come, but she was not sure that he would make it out alive.
Sudden five people on three broomsticks showed up. One with Fred in front and Hermione at the back, another with George in front and Neville on the back, and Luna on her own broom.
"Expelliarmus," Neville, Luna, Hermione, Fred, and George all cried at once while pointing their wands. This caused both of the Carrows to lose their wands. While the Carrows went to grab their wands, the kids all aimed their wands and yelled, "patrificus totalus." The body-binding curse worked on Amycus, but Alecto jumped behind a tree.
The kids jumped off their broomsticks.
"One of them's gone," Neville said.
"Imperio, Imperio, Imperio," Alecto whispered.
Fred and George grabbed Neville, while Hermione pointed her wand at Luna.
"Patrificus totalus," she said.
Luna fell to the ground, while Neville struggled against Fred and George's grip.
Trevor hopped out of Neville's pocket.
Hermione bent down by Amycus and took a knife out of his pocket. She then went over to Neville and cut his arm.
Neville screamed.
Hermione took the knife to the caldron and dripped the blood into it.
Trevor jumped onto Alecto.
Aleco screamed and broke the imperious curse.
Fred and George released Neville.
Hermione dropped the knife, hesitated, and then pointed her wand at Jane.
"Relashio," she said, and then the rope fell.
Meanwhile, Fred aimed his wand at Alecto. "Patrificus totalus," he yelled, causing her to fall to the ground.
At the same time, Neville was pointing his wand at Jane, while George was pointing his wand at Luna. "Episkey," they both said.
Once freed Jane grabbed Trevor and ran toward the other, as Voldemort appeared.
"Patrificus totalus," Hermione yelled, pointing her wand at Voldemort. It worked. "Incarcerous," she said, causing think cords to come and bind him. She then went over to each of the Carrow. "Incarcerous, Incarcerous," she said, doing the same to each of them.
The kids ran back to the brooms.
Willing herself not to melt down, Jane handed Trevor to Neville.
"Good boy, Trevor," Neville praised.
Everyone got on a broom, and they all road back to the castle.
Mrs. Weasley, Mr. Lovegood, Mrs. Longbottom, and Jane's mother and sister were brought to the school. A message was sent to Hermione's parents since they couldn't see the school.
Professor Dumbledore explained what happened, including the fact that someone unknown had come and freed Voldemort and the death eaters before the authorities got to them.
"I have had it with all the horrible stuff my children get involved in at this school," Mrs. Weasley shouted. "Come boys. We're going home." She walked out the door.
Fred and George followed.
"Does this mean we can drop out of school?" Fred asked.
"And open a joke shop?" George asked.
Jane couldn't hear Mrs. Weasley's response.
Jane's mother looked at her. "Jane, you are not allowed to go to Hogsmede anymore."
"I'm okay with that," Jane said.
"Actually, I don't think I want you going to Hogwarts anymore, either."
Jane looked down, sadly, but she didn't say anything.
"Hogwarts," Professor Dumbledore said, "may not be the safest place, but with Voldemort on the loose it's certainly safer than a muggle home, or most wizard homes."
At dinner, Jane and Luna sat at the Gryffindor table with Neville and Hermione. They were too upset not to. When Professor Dumbledore told everyone what happened, Jane felt like she was going to melt down again.
