I really appreciate the reviews, likes, follows, and the private messages. I guess I didn't realize how welcoming this community was. Now that I look through my favorite Calzona stories, I see a lot of familiar names spreading kind words and encouragement. It is nice to see.
I need to give a special shout out to ModlerFanKay. This individual mentioned this story in one of their author's notes and I realized I had some heave traffic that day, so thank you! This is actually the author of one of my fav Calzona fics 'Five Years Later'. I am recently getting into their story 'Burlesque'. Such a different story than we are used to seeing. I recommend checking it out!

Chapter 25
Still Friday….
Callie's POV
Callie was sitting at Sofia's favorite restaurant waiting for Aria to bring her by. It had already been a crazy day, so this lunch was a breath of fresh air. Callie had to sneak out the back of The Calliope because media was still sitting in front of the hotel. She knew the story would be big, but she kind of figured after she made her entrance with Arizona this morning it would die down.
Callie saw Aria's blue Range Rover pull up and her heart started to flutter. What if Sofia didn't want Callie and Arizona together? Sofia had met one of Callie's ex's, but she was a little young to remember. As she saw her beautiful mini me run towards her, she felt herself tear up. She hadn't realized how much she missed Sofia. They were always together and the last week and a half had them separated more than they ever had been.
"Mami! I missed you. Tia Aria said you wanted to have lunch here. This is my favorite? Can I get pizza and ice cream?" Sofia was buzzing.
"Hi baby girl, yeah I missed you, so I wanted to have lunch with you. I think we can manage pizza and ice cream." Callie pulled Sofia in and kissed her head. She saw Aria and the girls and Aria pointed to a table a bit further away indicating they were going to give them some privacy. Callie mouthed 'thank you' to Aria. She seriously owed her big time.
Callie and Sofia fell into easy conversation. Sofia explaining basically every minute of every day she had been away from Callie. It sounded like she was having a ball with Aria and the girls. It seems as though Mark was over there almost every night which made Callie happy. Aria had help with the kids and Mark got the family he had so desperately wanted for so long.
Sofia had polished off a whole kids' pizza to herself and was 2 lemonades deep. Callie had barley touched the salad she ordered out of pure nerves. When the waiter came Callie ordered her and Sofia their favorite dessert to share, a cookie skillet with vanilla ice cream. When the dessert arrived, Sofia dug right in.
"Where is Arizona today Mami?" Sofia asked as she shoved a giant bite of warmed cookie and ice cream in her mouth.
"She is golfing today mija. She has the final rounds this weekend, so she has to practice." Callie guessed that was as good of an opening as any.
"So…you seem to really like Arizona, huh?" Callie cautiously asked.
"She is my best friend Mami! I really like her. She said we could go to the beach when she comes back to Miami. Can we still do that? She said she hasn't been to the beach in forever."
"Yeah sweetie. She is going to come stay with us for a while…Sof what would you think of Arizona being Mami's girlfriend?" Callie held her breath. She watched as Sofia put her spoon down. The 6-year-old had one hell of a poker face. She was giving nothing away. She looked to be deep in thought. Just as Callie was about to break the silence Sofia spoke.
"Would she still be able to be my best friend though?" Sofia seriously asked.
"Of course, Sof." Callie chuckled. "She can be my girlfriend and your best friend." Callie said in all sincerity.
Sofia picked up her spoon and continued eating her dessert. "Then it is fine with me Mami."
Callie couldn't help but laugh at the simplicity of her daughter's answer. "I love you so much Sof, you know, that right?" Callie grabbed her daughter's hand and just looked at her.
"I know Mami. I love you too! Do you think Arizona could come with us to Disney World for my birthday?"
"I think you should ask her next time you see her!"
The rest of the lunch went by as if nothing was different. When the check came Callie took care of Aria and the girl's meal as well. She cleaned Sofia up and walked over to Aria's table. Before Aria even go the chance to ask Sofia decided to share the news. "Mami and Arizona are girlfriends, but Arizona is still my best friend." She proudly stated.
The group got up to head out and Aria whispered to Callie "That seemed to go well?". Callie just laughed. "She was only concerned that Arizona was still her best friend." The sisters laughed and loaded the kids into the car. As they said their goodbyes Callie couldn't help but be excited for when this tournament was over. She was looking forward to some sort of normalcy back.
Callie got into her car and decided she would text Arizona to let her know how the lunch went.
So, Sofia said you can be my girlfriend as long as you are still her best friend.
Callie drove back to The Calliope in silence. As she pulled into the back area all the happiness, she felt from the lunch slowly disappeared. She had to go fire her best front desk employee. An employee she honestly thought would one day take Mark's place as manager of The Calliope. Callie let out a big sigh and headed towards the entrance. The camera flashes and questions quickly started
"Where is Arizona"
"How long have you been dating?"
"Is that why your family sponsored her?"
The last question was the straw that broke the camel's back if you will. Callie turned to the media, took a deep breath, and answered.
"Arizona is practicing for the tournament. Us dating is not the reason she is sponsored by The Torres Company. If you look at the scoreboard, it speaks for itself. Arizona is a talented golfer and we are lucky she agreed to our sponsorship before her and I became and item. Have a great afternoon." Callie turned and headed into the hotel.
Mark quickly approached Callie. "What the hell Torres? I told you to text me so I could send security out to bring you in." Mark was always the protective type.
"Sorry Mark, I just want to get this Julie shit handled. I am okay."
"She is in the conference room. You ready?"
"Yeah. Let's go." Callie glanced at her phone as she walked into the back area of the hotel. She noticed she had a response from Arizona. Figuring she could use a smile before this nightmare, she opened it.
Well duh…Sofia is my bff. I am just lucky I get both the girls. Have an awesome day Calliope. Presidential Suite at 6 for dinner. My mother can't wait to meet you. I love you.
Yup, that is exactly what Callie needed before the Julie crap.
I can't wait either. See you at 6. I love you too XOXO
Callie tucked her phone into her pocket and entered the conference room.
"Ms. Torres! So good to see you. It has been a hectic week." Julie smiled at Callie as if nothing was wrong.
"Julie." Was all Callie could muster.
She watched as Julie's face dropped. Cleary this was not a social meeting. Mark cleared his throat and opened his laptop to turn it towards Julie. Playing on the laptop was the security footage that was leaked to ESPN. Callie watched Julie's reaction. She could tell Julie was surprised to see it, but she could also see her body language and attitude shift.
"Um. I saw that on the news. I was surprised to see out security footage out there." Julie tried to seem confident.
"Yeah. So was I. What also surprised me, Julie was that the only person who was working on the day this footage occurred and the day it was leaked is you…. Care to explain?" Callie was keeping some of her cards close to her chest. She knew Julie was going to try to lie about this.
"Ms. Torres. I don't r-really understand what you are implying here." Julie straightened up in her seat.
"Well Julie, do you think it is a coincidence that these two events happened on days only you were working. Quite frankly, I am not in the mood for anything, but the truth so lets just be honest here." Callie snapped.
Mark looked over at Callie and gave her a look telling her to calm down. She just quickly nodded her head.
"Ms. Torres. I have been with The Calliope for five years. The fact you-you think I could do this and so blatantly accuse me of it without proof is insulting!" Julie snapped.
Callie took Mark's laptop and clicked around until she found what she was looking for. Pulling up the video of Julie by the media tent and the video of Julie and George she spun the laptop towards Julie. She didn't say anything, she just let the redhead watch the videos. Callie watched as the color drained from Julie's face.
"So…the look on your face tells me you know that I know. So, if you want to explain yourself, I would be happy to hear it. If not, I honestly don't care. Like you said Julie, you have been with us for five years. You are very well compensated and your career trajectory with The Torres Company was honestly pretty bright." Callie had no emotion in her voice.
"Was?" Julie asked.
"Oh yeah. You are so fired." Mark added.
Callie just looked over at him and laughed.
"Wait. What? F-fired?!" Julie was panicking.
"Julie. What did you think would happen? I can't trust you anymore. You can't work here if I can't trust you." Callie was honestly over this conversation at this point.
"George said you wouldn't find out!" Julie yelled. Now Callie was interested.
"What exactly happened here Julie?" Callie tried to sound less hostile.
"I asked Arizona out like 4 times and she kept saying no, she wasn't interested. I don't get turned down so I will admit I was pissed. Then I ran into George after Arizona had shot me down again. He told me how you had turned him down quite a few times too, and that you and Arizona were clearly sleeping together. I was annoyed because Arizona shot me down claiming she wasn't interested in starting anything. Clearly, she was lying. George told me about her interview, and we were joking about how funny it would be to catch her off guard about your relationship. I remembered the footage because there was a delivery that was late the day after your date. When I was talking to the vendor, they swore it was on time. I pulled up the footage and saw the two of you. So, I told George about the video and he paid me for it…." Julie was clearly embarrassed about this, but it didn't matter.
"How much did he give you for it?" Mark asked.
"$2,000" Julie whispered.
"Well, hope that was worth it. I appreciate you telling us the full story. I really do. But I am sorry Julie, you are fired. Please clear your stuff out and security will escort you off the property. Your last paycheck will be mailed to you." Callie closed Mark's laptop and started packing up her stuff.
"Wait! Y-you can't do this! I will go to the press!" Julie screamed. Now Callie was mad. She tried to handle this gracefully but of course, Julie was making it hard.
"Go to the press and say what Julie?! That I fired you because you leaked security footage? That my father paid half of your bachelor's degree in hospitality management? That I let you babysit my kid? That you were supposed to take this place over one day?! But no. You fucked that up Julie. Because why? Arizona wounded your pride. That is life Julie. Shit happens. People turn you down and you don't react like a child! Do you think I wanted to do this today Julie? Do you? Firing you hurts. You are my best employee! When Mark showed me the footage, I refused to believe it was you. But you saw it. It is pretty damn clear. I can't trust you anymore. If I can't trust you, I can't have you working for me." Callie was screaming at this point. Mark walked over to Callie and put his hand on her shoulder.
"I've got it from here Torres." He whispered.
Callie grabbed her stuff and slammed the conference room door behind her. She was fuming. She needed to get out of here. Locking up her stuff she was basically stomping through the lobby when she saw her father.
"Mija! How are you?" Carlos pulled her into a hug.
Callie deflated into her father's arms. There was just something about a Carlos Torres hug that made all of her emotions boil to the surface.
"I'm okay. I just had to fire Julie. She was the security footage leak." Callie mumbled into her father's shoulder.
"Oh Mija, I am sorry. I know how much you valued her employment. Business is messy sometimes, but I know you know that. I am very proud of how you are handling this." He squeezed her tightly. Carlos Torres was a billion-dollar business mogul, PGA board member, a husband, and well respected in all things. First and foremost, though Carlos Torres was a father and grandfather. His girls made him proud every single day.
"Mija, I wanted to update you about Mr. O'Malley and Mr. Burke. Do you have time to grab some coffee?"
"Sure." Callie was drained from the last 24 hours. The last thing she wanted to do was talk more about this. Slipping into Carlos Torre's lounge area, which was conveniently empty, Callie and Carlos sat down. Visibly relaxing Callie took a drink of the delicious coffee her father kept stocked in his lounge.
"Okay Daddy, what's up?"
"So, Mr. O'Malley and Mr. Burke will no longer an issue. I have handled it." Carlos stated matter of fact.
"Oooookay…. care to expand or did you just want to have coffee with your favorite daughter?" Callie joked.
"It will come to light soon enough. I chose not to have them tossed from the tournament. Knowing those two, they would try to discredit Arizona if she won this tournament and they were thrown out. However, there are repercussions happening. There is a code of conduct in the PGA and throwing your fellow golfers under the bus, that doesn't sit right with the board. I also happen to be very good friends with the CEOs of the companies that carry most of their endorsements. I am actually planning to have a bit of a 'CEO retreat' if you will. Business and morals may be discussed. Also, if there are any golfers or friends of yours that need rooms for this weekend's play, two suites just opened up this morning." Callie looked at her father and shook her head. She couldn't help but laugh. You do not mess with his girls. If Callie had mentioned that Eric contacted her, George and Burke would have been buried on the golf course somewhere. She was saving that for a rainy day.
"Daddy…. was that really necessary?" Callie was not one for confrontation, but she was enjoying this more than she should be.
"Calliope. These two men divulged your private life to be used against you! They are lucky this is all I am doing. My job is to protect you and Sofia. That is what I am doing. I will make it so they never speak your name again."
"You know I love you, right?" Callie smiled at her father.
"Yes Mija, I love you too. So much. I am so proud of you." Carlos hugged his daughter.
"Not to dampen the mood…. but your mother will be at brunch on Sunday." Carlos shyly stated.
"Nope. I won't be there." Callie sat back and crossed her arms. Yes, she looked like a child, but she didn't care. Her mother never came around to her being bisexual or having Sofia by herself. In the eyes of her mother, Lucia Torres, Callie was a disappointment and Sofia was a 'mistake'. Funny how that works. She didn't want anything to do with her mother. They spoke on holidays as a courtesy. For some reason Sofia loves her, even though she is cold and distant.
"Calliope. Please. For me?" Carlos wasn't above begging. He loved his wife. He didn't agree with her stance on Callie, but it was still family.
"You can't ask me to get Arizona to join us for brunch and then say Mami will be there…. You get one or the other." Callie stated. Her phone started ringing and she saw it was Mark. "I have to go Daddy. Let me know about Sunday. Thank you again for handling this situation. I love you." She kissed his cheek and walked out of the lounge.
"Hey Mark, what's up?" Callie answered
"I just wanted to let you know, Julie signed for the severance package and all the other docs your Dad wanted. She shouldn't be an issue."
"Thank you, Mark. You are the best."
As they wrapped up Callie noticed it was now close to 4pm. She needed to go home and get ready for dinner with Arizona's family.
Arizona's POV
Arizona sat in the living area of the suite and just stared at the clock. Callie was supposed to be there in 15 minutes, and she was nervous. Getting up she started pacing the living area.
"Bug. Calm down. We don't bite." Her father joked.
"Ha ha. You don't bite but Mama does. I am just worried Dad. I love Calliope and this has to go well."
"Arizona. Don't worry about us. We can tell this girl makes you happy, so just calm down okay?"
Just then Arizona heard a knock at the door. She jumped over the couch, beating her mother to the door.
"Arizona Marie! You need to calm down." Barbara scolded. Turning back to the kitchen she walked away. Arizona opened the door and was met with the show stopping smile she loved from her brunette.
"Marie huh?" Callie joked.
"Trust me, I know. Not very original." Arizona responded.
"I like it." Callie leaned in an gave Arizona a brief kiss.
"You ready?" Arizona grabbed Callie's hand and lead her into the suite. They headed towards the kitchen area where Arizona knew her family would be. She squeezed Callie's hand as they turned the corner.
"Mama, Daddy this is Callie – my girlfriend. Calliope, these are my parents Barbara Robbins and Daniel Robbins." Arizona confidently stated.
"Mr. and Mrs. Robbins, it is a pleasure to meet you. Arizona speaks so highly of you." Callie extends her hand.
"Callie, we hug around here. I hope that is okay. Please, it is Barbara or Barb." Barbara spoke, a little too excited. Arizona watched as her mom basically smothered Callie in a hug.
"Okay, Mama. Let the girl breathe."
"Callie. Nice to meet you." Daniel extended his hand. Callie took it and gave a firm handshake back. "Nice handshake." Daniel stated. He looked at Arizona and shot her a wink. He turned to head back towards the living room.
"Callie. Can I get you something to drink? Dinner should be ready shortly." Barbra stated, always the perfect host.
"No thank you. Would you like help with anything?" Callie politely asked.
"You cook?" Barbara seemed surprised.
"Mama, Callie is a great cook. She makes the best baked potato soup I have ever had!" Arizona proudly states.
"I enjoy cooking. Sofia and I like to try new things, which is how the baked potato soup came about." Callie stated.
"Then please, join me! Arizona can't even microwave popcorn. Glad to know she found someone and won't starve." Barbara joked.
"Mama! I can so cook!" Arizona argued.
"Ha! Yeah right. You can't even microwave popcorn and there is literally a button for it." The voice of her oh so charming brother rang through the kitchen.
"No one asked you Timothy." Arizona sneered.
"Callie, good to see you." Tim stated, giving Callie a brief hug.
Greetings were exchanged as Tim and Teddy joined them. Arizona was promptly kicked out of the kitchen. She was really a terrible cook. Arizona was nervous to leave Callie alone in the kitchen with her mother. Barbara Robbins was not subtle, and Arizona could not even begin to imagine what was being discussed in that kitchen. She found herself lingering in the area between the dining area and the kitchen.
"Arizona come sit down. Everything is fine." Teddy called her over.
"Teddy. My mother is alone in the kitchen with my girlfriend. That is not fine. How about you go in there and run interference?" Arizona looked at Teddy with pleading eyes.
"You can't be serious…." Teddy deadpanned.
"Teds. Pleaseeeeee. You know how Mama can be. She probably has Callie's social security number by now!"
Teddy had been on the receiving end of Barbara Robbin's interrogations. So, she knew what Callie was currently going through. She rolled her eyes and stood up.
"You owe me." Teddy walked away.
"Did you really just send her in there to be a buffer?" Tim asked. Arizona just rolled her eyes earning a laugh from Tim and her father.
The three of them watched ESPN for the next 15 minutes. There was a lot of coverage about The Race, but Callie and Arizona had been brought up a few times. At this point, it didn't bother Arizona. Callie was her girlfriend and the world now knew. She was happier than she had been in a really long time so no one would take that away from her. As the ESPN cycle was dying down, she heard her mother call that dinner was ready.
Arizona shot up and went directly to the kitchen. She saw Teddy, Callie, and her mother laughing and seeming to have a good time. She let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. As the food was placed on the table and everyone settled in, Arizona leaned into Callie and whispered, "everything go okay?". Callie just winked at her and nodded her head. Dinner was delicious and the conversation was flowing freely. Everyone was being so welcoming to Callie. Even her father had cracked a few jokes, while they were at Arizona's expense, she didn't care. As long as Callie was having a good time. Callie and Tim seemed to get along really well which was amazing. Tim was the most important person in Arizona's life so getting along well with her brother was super important. Arizona had told her family that Callie had a daughter and told them to leave the subject alone. She was not ashamed of Sofia or the fact Callie had her, she just didn't want Callie to feel the need to explain. Unfortunately, Tim had not got the memo.
"So, Callie, how old is Sofia?" He innocently asked.
"Six. She will be seven in a few months." Callie proudly responded.
"Wow, that means she is in school right?" Tim asked.
"Yup! She starts 2nd grade in September. Which, I really can't believe. It feels like just yesterday I was coming home from the hospital with her."
"They really do grow up to fast, don't they?" Barbara chimed in.
"I am still trying to figure out how to stop time." Callie joked.
"Well it is a good thing you met AZ when you did. She doesn't do babies." Tim joked.
The table went quiet. Callie glanced over at Arizona and Arizona felt her face turn red.
"Timothy. That is enough." Daniel chimed in.
"What? It is true! If I had a dollar for every time, she said babies and kids in general were a no go, I wouldn't have to caddy for her!" Tim clearly couldn't read a room. Suddenly Tim yelped out in pain "Ow! What the hell?" he looked over at Arizona, but Teddy spoke up. "That was me. Shut up Tim."
Arizona watched as everyone looked around. Thankfully Barbara Robbins was never one to let something derail a dinner. "Who is ready for dessert!" she asked. Everyone gladly agreed. Callie had become quite but was still engaging with Arizona's family. She watched as her girlfriend laughed and joked with her father. Daniel Robbins was a tough nut to crack, but Arizona could tell he really liked Callie. As Arizona was in the kitchen helping her mother clean up, she was caught off guard by her mother's bold statement.
"Marry that girl, Arizona. She is a good one."
"Mama, slow down there." She laughed.
"I am serious Arizona. Don't mess this up. Callie is a good girl."
"I know that Mama. I love her and I am going to do my best to show her and Sofia that."
"I am proud of you, you know. I am impressed how you are handling all of the stuff thrown your way the last few weeks. Callie told me how you handled the interview and your main concern was her and Sofia."
"I know it is quick, but Callie and Sofia are a big priority for me right now. I won't let anything happen to them." She proudly stated.
"I know sweetie. You are your father's good man in the storm." Barbara kissed Arizona's cheek and walked out of the kitchen.
Arizona glanced at the clock and noticed it was already 9pm. She had to tee off at noon tomorrow and she wanted to get Callie home at a decent time, knowing she had a long day the next day as well. She walked into the living area and just stopped to take it in. Sitting there were her favorite people, with the exception of Sofia. Callie seemed to just fit with her family. Her and Tim were currently laughing at something her father had said, and Arizona felt content in that moment. She pulled herself out of her daydream and walked into the room.
"If you are all done monopolizing my girlfriend, I think it is time to call it a night. Big day tomorrow."
Arizona watched as her whole family said their goodbyes to Callie. Her mother promising to text Callie some recipes and her father making her promise she would come fish up to Michigan before the summer was over. Clearly Callie had won her family over. As they took the elevator down to the back entrance, it was mostly quiet.
"I think that went well. It is very possible my mom might keep you over me. She doesn't share her recipes with anyone." Arizona joked.
"Yeah. Your family is really great. Thank you for the invite." Callie smiled.
Arizona hadn't known Callie long, but she had learned to read her. Something was on her mind and Arizona had a feeling she knew what it was.
"Calliope…. what's wrong?" She pulled Callie to a stop when they got to her car.
"Nothing. I am just tired. Looong day." Callie responded but Arizona knew she was lying.
"It was the kid comment from Tim, right?" Arizona wasn't going to let her girlfriend leave like this.
"It's fine Arizona. I don't expect anything from you. You said you understood Sofia and I are a package deal, so I trust you know that. I just need you to tell me when it gets to be too much for you."
"When it gets to be too much for me? Calliope. I told you, I love you and I love Sofia. I am not going anywhere. Did I want kids before? No. I also thought I was just going to travel the world and play golf forever. Then I met you. I am not saying I want to have 10 kids together, but I am telling you that I am in this. That means with you, with Sofia and whatever else the future brings." Arizona grabbed Callie's face, looking into her eyes. "I love you Calliope Torres. I love your daughter, and I love every singe part of you. Please believe that."
Arizona watched as Callie's eyes started to water. She didn't know if that was a good or a bad thing. Before she could question it, Callie's lips were on hers. Kissing her with the passion that only Callie could give her.
"I love you too, Arizona. Thank you for saying that. I feel the same way. I love you so much." Callie stated between kisses.
"Come by tomorrow for breakfast? Mama makes her famous biscuits and gravy before a big round. I am sure she would love to have you, as would I." Arizona tentatively asked.
"That sounds wonderful. You need to go get some sleep. I would invite you over, but we are not very good at sleeping when you stay over." Callie flirted.
"Yeah the responsible athlete in me says I should stay here, but the girlfriend in my wants to take you home and take you to bed." Arizona whispered the last part in Callie's ear.
Clearing her dry throat "Well. Sunday night will be here before you know it. I will be responsible the next two days. Go get some sleep Arizona, I will see you for breakfast. I love you." Callie kissed her and got into her car.
Arizona watched as Callie drove away. What a weird but great night. If you would have told her 2 weeks ago, she would be in love with an amazing woman going into the finals of this tournament, she would have laughed in your face. But now…now all she could see was a future with Calliope and Sofia.
She was going to marry that girl one day.
