A/N: Wow! Thank you to your response on the last chapter. It was double the length of all the others. I am so glad you liked it.
I have the next 3 chapters written. Basically, what that means here is that I am going to try my best to get a few more done in the next week, but I refuse to rush them. So once baby comes (2 weeks until due date) I might be MIA for a week or two and will probably go down to one update a week for a while. I promise promise this story will be finished. I just ask you have some patience once the little one arrives. I will post an update letting you all know when that happens 😊
Chapter 29
Sunday Night
Callie's POV
To say the day was chaotic would be an understatement. Callie had woken up that morning missing her girlfriend's warmth in her bed. They had spent every second they could the previous night, together. Talking, laughing, and bringing each other pleasure that was beyond words. When Callie had woken up she had every intention on going to her family brunch. She knew that Arizona wouldn't be able to join them, because she was in the playoff. Her father had offered to push the brunch and do a family dinner instead, but Callie told him not to. If her mother was going to be there, Arizona wouldn't be. It wasn't that she did not want Arizona to meet her family. Honestly, it was the opposite. She wanted to show Arizona off to everyone. She was proud to be her girlfriend. But, Lucia Torres was not someone that anyone should have to deal with. Especially since Callie had no idea that Arizona was going to win. Sure, she knew in her heart it was possible but how do you predict that? Win or lose, Lucia was not going to sink her claws into Arizona. Aria had dropped Sofia off at the house to get ready for brunch at 8 that morning. As Callie was putting on her dress she looked in the mirror and Arizona's overnight bag that had made a home near her nightstand caught her eye. At that moment, Callie knew that brunch with her insufferable mother was not where she needed to be. She needed to be cheering on her amazing girlfriend. Convincing Sofia was easier than snapping your fingers. She promptly turned around and sprinted to her bedroom. When she emerged, she was wearing the pink polo that would surely match Arizona's. Arizona wore pink the days of important rounds. Seeing Sofia's smile and the ecstatic shriek that left her when Callie asked, was more than enough confirmation. Callie shot Aria a quick text letting her know about the change in plans and headed towards The Calliope to cheer her girlfriend on.

Currently laying next to her in her bed was a clearly exhausted blonde. The plan had been to go out and celebrate her win with a nice dinner, but Arizona's back had other plans. When Callie had seen her go down on the golf course earlier that day it took everything in her not to sprint out onto the course to go check on her. How Arizona overcame the pain that she was in to not only play well, but win, was beyond Callie's comprehension. She was so damn proud of her girlfriend.
Callie and Arizona had agreed to a relaxing evening in with Sofia in lieu of a celebration for now. Arizona's parents were also exhausted from being out in the heat all day. They all agreed to a nice lunch the next day after Arizona saw Dr. Grey again for some imaging and some treatment. Arizona's parents insisted that they also invite Carlos Torres and Aria with her girls. So, it would really be a full family affair.
Glancing at the clock, Callie saw it was just after 9:30 at night. This was not what she would be doing with her tournament winning blonde had she not hurt her back. She had a nice romantic evening planned to either celebrate Arizona or comfort her. Either way, a sleeping 6-year-old down the hall and a snoring blonde next to her was not what she planned. The funny thing was that she wouldn't change it. It all felt so domestic and so comfortable.
As Callie continued to play with Arizona's hair, something the blonde admitted she loved, she took a minute to reflect on just how happy she was at that moment. Arizona literally crashed into her life in the lobby two weeks ago, now she was sleeping in her bed. Her daughter was healthy and happy, not to mention loved Arizona more than she loved Callie at most times. As Callie put her Sudoku puzzle down and got ready to lay down, the blonde next to her started to stir.
"Calliope?" Arizona croaked out. Voice filled with sleep.
"Yeah. Are you okay? How are you feeling?" Callie asked, concerned that the blonde may be in pain.
"I'm okay. I didn't realize I fell asleep. How long have I been out?"
"About an hour and a half. How is your back?"
"Hurts. But I will be okay. Sorry I fell asleep. Clearly I am not much fun tonight." Arizona winced as she rolled over and sat up.
"Hey, you are injured. You somehow managed to win the damn tournament with a back injury. I didn't expect you to be doing backflips tonight Arizona. Lay back down and go back to sleep."
"Okay." Arizona yawned. "Come here and cuddle me" she mumbled, pulling Callie into her.
Callie snuggled into Arizona and kissed her. "Goodnight Arizona. I love you, and I am so proud of you."
"I love you too, Calliope." Arizona whispered as Callie watched her drift back to sleep.

Arizona's POV
Arizona was shocked awake by a shooting pain in her back. She knew her back was going to be a problem for a few days, but holy crap. Opening her eyes, she saw that she was currently alone in Callie's bed. Looking over at Callie's night stand she glanced at the clock. It was only 8:30 in the morning. Where the hell was Callie? Just then, she heard Sofia's laugh echo across the house. Oh yeah…Sofia was there. That explains why Callie was awake so early. Kids don't sleep in, do they?
Arizona gingerly sat up and was slightly relieved when she was able to do so unassisted. She glanced at the nightstand and saw a note along with a glass of water and two pills.
Arizona,
I got you in with Dr. Grey at 10am. These are just aspirins; I don't have anything stronger. Breakfast will be ready soon.
Xoxo – Calliope
That woman really was a saint. Arizona took the medication and downed the water. She hobbled into the bathroom and turned on the shower as hot as she could tolerate. She quickly undressed and stood under the scalding hot water and could almost feel her muscles begin to loosen. Callie had her alternating ice and heat last night and that seemed to help. As the water soothed her back she rested her head against the wall of Callie's shower. How the hell was she going to golf two more tournaments this year?
Arizona knew her body pretty well, she knew that her back currently would take about a week to get back to "normal". Assuming there wasn't more damage than she anticipated. Dr. Grey impressed her yesterday, so she would wait and see what she said later. As she stood under the water, she didn't even hear the door open.
"Arizona?" She heard the melody of her girlfriend's voice call out.
"In here." Arizona replied. Once the reply was out she wanted to hit her head against the wall. Obviously she was in here…
"Are you okay?" Callie asked, concern lacing her voice.
"Yea. Just taking a hot shower to loosen up my back. I will be out in just a second." She wasn't lying, the insanely hot shower was helping. While her back was probably as red as an apple, she felt alright.
"Alright, breakfast is ready whenever you are." Callie called as she closed the door.
Walking into the kitchen, Arizona was met with what she imagined heaven would smell like. Then she saw the most delicious breakfast spread.
"Good morning, Arizona!" Sofia greeted her as she walked over to the breakfast bar.
"Well good morning Sofia. Did you make all of this because it looks delicious." Arizona joked.
"I helped Mami make it. She loves to cook."
"Well it looks like the best breakfast I have ever seen. Just don't tell my Mom I said that!"
"Don't tell Mom what?" Callie walked in carrying two cups of what Arizona assumed was coffee.
"Arizona said this is the best breakfast she has ever seen and to not tell her mom that!" Sofia replied.
"Oh yeah, don't tell Barbara. She might get mad at me." Callie winked as she kissed Arizona's cheek.
"Good morning." She whispered.
Arizona wasn't exactly sure how to handle PDA in front of Sofia. She knew that Callie told Sofia they were a couple, but she didn't want to be overly affectionate in front of her. That was something she would have to discuss with Callie later.
"Good Morning, Calliope. This looks delicious. You didn't have to do all this."
"Are you kidding me? I get to have breakfast with the winner of The Race. I had to make it worth it that she spent the night with me." Callie smacked Arizona's bottom as she walked around the breakfast bar.
They all sat and enjoyed the delicious breakfast that Callie prepared. It was not lost on Arizona that this was all very "family" like. Normally that would make her run, but honestly it felt nice. Sitting at the table enjoying breakfast with Callie and Sofia was something Arizona didn't even know she needed. It was always her and Callie which was more than fine. The time she got with the brunette was honestly not enough. But adding Sofia to the equation just made it feel complete.

Stepping into Dr. Grey's office at Miami General Hospital Arizona was nervous. She was slightly regretting telling Callie that she didn't need to come. Arizona had always hated hospitals. After her "accident" she spent way too much time in them. Funny thing is, she wanted to be doctor when she was younger but now hated hospitals. As she sat in the room waiting for Dr. Grey she was anxious to see what her images were going to say. While Arizona was still sore, she felt a lot better.
Dr Grey walked into the room and sat across from Arizona at her desk. The doctor had a heck of a poker face, she was not giving anything away.
"So…. good news first, or bad news?" Dr. Grey asked.
"Um good?" Arizona nervously asked.
"Well the good news is I see nothing on your images that concerns me. Your back is pretty healthy, considering the history. I see no pinched nerves, factures, nothing really." Dr. Grey was pointing to different parts of Arizona's images as she explained.
"Then what is the bad news…?" Arizona was now confused.
"Well it depends on your definition of bad. You are clear to compete once you personally feel up to it. I would continue with ice and heat and I will give you a prescription for the steroid I gave you yesterday. You will take it orally; I suggest doing it before the next two tournaments. Just to see you through. Then I would recommend some light PT during the off season to strengthen some of the muscles you are going to be using as you start competing more."
"Oh, well that is not so bad. I am actually going to spend a lot of the off season here in Miami. So, if you have a PT you would recommend, I will make sure to set something up." Arizona smiled. Relived it was nothing serious.
"I have a few. I will email you some names and such. Happy to hear you will be around this fall. You have to have dinner with Derek and I. Alex Karev and Jo too usually join too."
"Sounds awesome."

Callie's POV
Callie was anxiously waiting to hear how Arizona's appointment had gone. She had received a text from Arizona about an hour ago telling her she was headed to the restaurant where they were all meeting for lunch. Callie had gotten there a bit early and as everyone started to wander in, there was still no sight of her blonde. She was starting to get worried. She had been bombarded with questions from everyone in attendance about Arizona's appointment, but had insisted she didn't know anything. Daniel Robbins had asked 20 questions before he even sat down. Questions ranging from how Arizona was acting this morning, to why she went to the appointment alone. Callie knew he was just being a concerned father, but she really wished Arizona would have at least texted her parents some kind of an update. Just as she was about to call Arizona, she saw a head of blonde hair coming toward their table. Sofia seemed to be the first to notice because just as Callie realized it was indeed Arizona, Sofia was on her feet headed towards her.
"Hi Arizona. How was the doctor? Are you okay?" Sofia peppered her with questions.
"Sof. Come over here and sit down. Everyone here wants to know how the appointment went. Let Arizona sit down so she only has to go over it once."
With a huff, Sofia returned to her seat. Arizona took the open chair right next to Callie leaning in to give her a quick kiss.
"Hey." She whispered.
"Hey yourself. You need to give these people some information before they eat me alive." Callie joked.
Arizona went on to explain what Dr. Grey had told her about her back. Much to Callie's relief, there was nothing seriously wrong. A small part of her had hoped maybe Arizona would withdraw from the last two tournaments, but if it meant Arizona was healthy, she would suck it up and miss her girlfriend for a few weeks. She could see how relieved Arizona was and she could already tell that her back felt better. Yesterday was pretty scary but seeing that Arizona was on the mend put her at ease.
The lunch passed in a blur. Everyone continuously congratulating Arizona. A few toasts were made in her honor that the blonde was clearly uncomfortable with. For a professional athlete, Arizona was very modest. She would instantly downplay the compliments and be sure to include Tim in the praise as well. It was really refreshing. Everything was going well, and everyone seemed to get along, which was a nice change from Callie's previous relationships. During the whole meal Arizona's hand never left Callie's thigh. They both knew their days together were slowly dwindling and they seemed to have two different ways of dealing with that. Arizona seemed a bit clingier, while Callie tried to pretend like the blonde didn't leave in 2 days. They had talked about it at length, but Callie was still struggling with the idea of Arizona not being 15 minutes away.
Arizona had an interview with ESPN that night, and they had both agreed that she would come back to Callie's afterwards. They wanted to spend the next two days together along with Sofia. Arizona's parents were set to fly out that evening along with Tim and Teddy. So she would really have Arizona all to herself. Just as everything was winding down, Callie noticed her father stand up. Internally praying he did not embarrass her, she watched as he hit his knife against his water glass.
"Ladies and gentlemen. I just want to take a second to thank you all for such a lovely afternoon. When it was first brought to my attention that The Race needed a new location, I instantly thought of The Calliope. I knew Arizona was a special talent about 6 months ago. I saw her playing a few rounds at The Lucia in Boston while I was there on business. Then I saw her playing in a few LPGA tournaments. So when the opportunity arose to not only host The Race, but do so in order to have Arizona compete, it was a no brainer. I am so grateful to have met such a great young woman. It is clear why she is the way she is. During this brief meal I have had the opportunity to get to know the rest of the Robbins family. You are all so delightful and I truly hope that you all come back to Miami soon to visit. On a personal note, I need to thank Arizona for a few things. You accepted our sponsorship proposition and that has been great for business. More importantly, you kept my granddaughter safe and saved her when she slipped in the pool. For that, I am eternally in your debt. You have my Calliope smiling more than I have seen her smile in what feels like forever. The people at this table are all better because they know you. Congratulations on the best round of golf I have ever seen. To Arizona!"
The rest of the table cheered and continue to chat amongst themselves. Arizona's face was beet red and Callie found it absolutely adorable.
"You know, there is no reason to be embarrassed that people are celebrating you." She whispered to Arizona.
"I just don't like being the center of attention. It feels weird." Arizona responded.
"Well, I was hoping to have a private celebration with you later…if you were up to it. But, if you don't-" Callie was immediately cut off.
"Calliope, I am all for celebrating privately with you. I selfishly enjoy being the center of attention when it is just you and I." Arizona whispered.

Arizona's POV
Saying goodbye to her parents and her brother was never something Arizona enjoyed doing. Knowing that they were there for the biggest win of her life made things that much better. But, all good things must end. She currently stood in the suite of The Calliope helping her mother get all of her misc. things together.
"Looks like that is everything." Barbara said as she zipped up her carry on.
"Thank you for making the trip Mama. I really appreciate it. I don't know what I would have done without you being here." She embraced her Mom and squeezed.
"Oh dear, you would have done just as well. I am so proud of you Arizona. I can't wait to tell the girls about this suite and how well you did!"
"Barb, you ready to hit the road?" Daniel Robbins stepped up, putting his arm around his wife.
"Yes hunny. Just saying goodbye."
"Bug. Hell of a weekend. I am very proud of you. We will see you up in Michigan soon?" He asked.
"Yeah Dad. I have a few more weeks of tournaments, then I am going to head to Boston to pack some things up, then I will be in Miami a bit. Callie and Sofia are talking about you promising them a week of fun up there, so we will coordinate with you and head up once the weather up there breaks." Arizona hugged her Dad goodbye and walked her parents to the elevator.
"I love you guys. Thank you again for making the trip. Call when you land!"
Arizona watched as the elevator door closed. It was the first time she had been alone in what felt like forever. She had said her goodbyes to Tim and Teddy earlier. They both planned to come visit Miami a few weeks once she returned. It would be nice to spend some time with them not during golf. Of course, she would see Tim next weekend and the weekend after for the tournaments.
Deciding now was a decent time to unwind before her interview, she went over to the couch and turned on ESPN. They were covering The Race of course. She listened as the commentators talked about the tournament, and of course her name was the headline.
So, what do we think of Arizona Robbins? She played lights out!
I have to agree. That was a heck of a round. She had everyone holding their breath with that back injury. But boy did she rally!
I have to say, I think she is going to be a problem for these guys moving forward. I have not seen natural talent like hers in a really long time.
Well I am sure we are in for a treat, Hannah Storm will be interviewing Arizona Robbins again, live, this evening at 8pm on ESPN. Be sure to tune in everyone!
Arizona watched as the final standings of The Race took up half the TV screen.
Arizona Robbins
Preston Burke
Alex Karev
Derek Shepard
Richard Webber
Andrew DeLuca
George O'Malley
Jackson Avery
Atticus Lincoln
Cooper Freedman
It was still surreal to see her name at the top of that list. Even more surreal is the photo that was on the other half. She had Sofia on her shoulders and her arm around Callie. You could see her parents, Tim, and Teddy standing next to them. That was the photo that was on the front page of all the newspapers in Miami that weekend. She couldn't help the smile on her face as she looked at the TV. That was her family and she was damn grateful.
A/N: This was really more of a filler. Wrapping things up for The Race and seeing the family off. The next few chapters are basically all Callie/Arizona 😊
