The guy was the same as the one on the photos. He was tall and towering over her, not hesitating to engulf her in a bear hug and kiss her on the lips.
Miyuki let out a surprised "Eep!" that made the guy chuckle.
"Oh, I missed you, honey," The guy flirtily cooed as he rubbed their nose.
Miyuki couldn't help but curse her future self.
"You two timing bitch. How can you have a husband AND cheat on him with a boyfriend?!"
She tried to smile. "I-I missed you too..." Putting her hands around his neck, standing on her toes. The guy was as tall as the door.
He froze and stared at her intently in the eyes.
"Who are you and what have you done to Miyuki?" He demanded in a serious tone, making her sweat.
"H-Huh?" Miyuki tried to feign ignorance.
"You never say that to me, and it has been years since you hug me back. All you do is say "I'm tired" then shove me so you can go to bed. We don't even kiss anymore." He bluntly explained.
Future Miyuki, you must be bonkers in the head.
"I uh..." Miyuki looked away from his prying eyes, trying to make up a lie. "I had a change of heart..."
The guy raised one of his eyebrow in confusion.
"You know, since I went to my sister's funeral..." Miyuki sniffed. Why did this had to happen?
The guy sighed and put his arm under her feet, basically sweeping her up and carrying her bridal style.
"I understand, I'm sorry I asked." He said with a soft smile, making Miyuki flutter. Miyuki shyly looked away but he captured her lips and kissed her deeply, making her gasp.
Contrary to his words and actions, the way he kissed her was more intense, possessive. There was a hint of longing as well, but since Miyuki was not her older counterpart she didn't really know how to respond. In the back of her mind, the kiss was not as good as her kiss with Chifuyu.
The guy finally broke the kiss, giving her some air to breathe. His forehead meeting hers, and breathed,
"Let's get you to bed."
Miyuki didn't understand.
They live in the same house, but different rooms? What is happening? Isn't he supposed to be her husband?
He carried her to her room, and she dumbly asked if he was going to sleep with her. His eyes simply widened and with a chuckle he reasoned that she must've been drunk and would regret it tomorrow, and left her room.
She stared at her ring finger in thought.
She actually learned that his name was Hanma Shuji from the documents lied in the living room table. She was trying to get some water when she walkwd passed them. Hanma... Or Shuji, was already in his room.
It didn't hurt to take a peek. She needed all of the information she needed.
She quickly read the document and found several keywords, 'Toman', 'Kisaki', and 'Mikey' was the most common, but the occasional 'Tsukigumi' was what confused her.
Apparently they were broke.
Miyuki went back to her room after that in thought.
Future Miyuki was a bitch with no morals. How could she? Both men were nice to her. Why did she do it?
Miyuki stood up from her bed and sighed.
She had some searching to do.
She found several things. One, the Tsukigumi's bank book and how it suspiciously got money every bi-weekly in a large sum. The withdrawal amount was almost ninety percent of the bi-weekly sum as well. Were the Tsukigumi in debt? Did they... We, owe someone?
Number two, she found a box of broken picture frames in her dresser. They were of her and Shuji. The two were happy, and based on the dates it was five to three years ago. Their apparent wedding picture was ripped out the worse. The tear in the middle was made out of pure anger.
Number three, and the most important thing, was a collection of her diary. It was in her bookshelf. It may seemed like a normal novel outside, but the inside was for sure her writing.
She never thought to be one who writes diaries. She thought her future would be her and her sister... Filled with art, spars, and happiness.
She carefully took the oldest diary in hand. Five years ago, 2012. Future Miyuki stated that she made the diary to embrace her new life as a married woman. She seemed really happy that both her and Shuji were in love.
There wasn't much mentioning about what happened in her life outside of her marriage life in the first volume. As she read further, the more she didn't understand how she could cheat on a good man like Shuji.
As she moved on to the next volume, 2013, Miyuki moved to the bed and tucked herself comfortably on the bed, her diaries next to her.
In the second year of her marriage life, it seemed that their honeymoon phase had sizzled as they got back to their jobs. From what Miyuki gathered, She was still in charge of the Tsukigumi in Toman and direct them to their jobs.
Miyuki was still on nice terms with Shuji.
The third volume of the book, 2014, was concerning. The first few pages were fine, but near the middle it got dark. Miyuki started to resent Shuji and Toman. The pages were black as she frustratingly scribbled out words and ripped some sheets off. It seemed that their relationship fell because of something.
Future Miyuki didn't disclose it, but from the way she was writing... Future Miyuki was betrayed. They stopped sharing a room then.
There were some entries that were blank. Throughout August it was catastrophe until Future Miyuki found hope in someone named Matsuno Chifuyu.
The diaries turned into a love story then, how the two met each other and fell in love. Chifuyu was her salvation, and they began their secret relationship not long after.
By September 2014, the entry made her eyes widen.
"I no longer feel anything but resentment towards Hanma Shuji and Toman. That guy Kisaki Tetta ruined everything."
There it was, Kisaki Tetta again.
"But after everything... I hope my sister forgives me for falling for another man... Chifuyu-kun. I love him. I love him so much. I am madly in love with him."
That statement shocked her. The rest of two years of her diaries were here filled with her romance and 'adventures' with Chifuyu-kun that could make her blush.
Miyuki went to sleep with a red face that night.
She was still stuck in the future. She didn't know how to get back. Shuji had left early in the morning and left a note in the fridge. Miyuki sighed as she made breakfast for herself.
The doorbell rang and she turned down the stove to open the door.
A smiling Chifuyu greeted her with a bouquet of sunflowers. His cheeky, boyish smile made her blush as he came in the apartment.
"Yuki." He called her name sweetly.
"Chifuyu-kun..." Miyuki blushed and accepted the flowers. She never got one before.
"Good morning," He said as he leaned down to kiss her. Miyuki blushed and turned away, making Chifuyu frown.
"Fine, I'll put this in your room." He said blankly and took the bouquet from her, making Miyuki blink. She returned to the kitchen and finished cooking.
Chifuyu eventually came back and stood behind her, crossing his arms in thought. Miyuki tried to ignore him and put away her breakfast into a plate and set it on the dining table.
She almost bumped into Chifuyu as she turned around in surprise. He was still in the same spot, watching her intently. Miyuki didn't notice that he was half a head taller than her and had to slightly look up, unlike with Shuji.
"Are you really my Yuki?" He asked with a hum. Miyuki gulped and turned to the dining table, only to get blocked by Chifuyu.
"You're not as passionate as usual. You always greet me with a kiss, and we end up making out in the sofa." He commented straightforwardly, making her blush.
"I-I haven't brushed my teeth!" Miyuki reasoned.
"Never stopped you before," Chifuyu shrugged with a smirk. Miyuki pouted and tip toed to kiss him on his cheek.
"There, happy?" She huffed as she walked passed him to the dining table.
"Huh," Chifuyu mused with a slight blush on his face. He quickly turned around to face her and sat across of her.
"You..." He analyzed as she started eating nervously.
"You're not my Yuki," He pointed out in realization, making Miyuki stop eating.
"You're just like Yuki when I first met her!"
Miyuki dropped her spoon.
"We first met three years ago, remember?" She pointed out what he said yesterday. "Besides, what made you thought of that?" Miyuki drank a glass of water.
"I used to have a crush on you eleven years ago,"
With that, she spit out her drink.
"WHAT?!"
"Back then when I saw you, you were in the Tsukigumi. You were leading them reluctantly since you don't really want to be your sister's predecessor." He leaned closer, serious.
"You confronted Toman and Mikey and the rest was impressed by your gall. Baji-san too. You were shy as a girl but as Tsukigumi's leader, you were fearless. I saw your spark. You shined so much." He praised with a smile.
"Toman and the Tsukigumi became close after. Everybody was introduced to you, but you weren't close with anybody. You kept them at arm's length. And then..." He trailed off.
"And then...?" Miyuki leaned closer, curious.
"One day, you disappeared after graduation. No one knew where you went." He said sadly.
Disappeared?
"Until you came back again, five years later." His face turned sullen. "You were different, more grown up, your hair was longer... You got even more prettier than I last saw you." Chifuyu took a strand of her hair and kissed it softly.
"You were also more sullen and lost your usual spark." He tucked her hair behind her ear.
"What happened to the Tsukigumi while I was away?" Miyuki asked sadly.
"Mayhem, honestly." Miyuki's heart dropped at the answer.
"There was no one to lead them and the group broke into factions. Mizuno Aya tried to get everyone together again but it didn't work."
Aya was the Tsukigumi's second in command.
"The good half of the Tsukigumi still helped people. The bad half... They stole funds and wrecked stuff up. Started a huge loan that made the group go bankrupt until..." Chifuyu looked away.
"...Until?"
"Until Kisaki Tetta and Hanma Shuji helped you and them... With a cost." Chifuyu's knuckles turned white from clenching it too hard.
"And the cost... Is...?" Miyuki felt dread. Chifuyu looked at her in the eyes.
"The cost was for you to get married to Hanma." He spat out.
"O-Oh..." Miyuki looked away.
"You were reluctant at first, but you had accepted it for the Tsukigumi. Said it was your responsibility and you shouldn't have left them."
"B-But..."
"You were unsure but eventually you fell in love with him and his sweet words. Kisaki always pushed for you guys to be together so you two were always together. Then I was assigned as your assistant on your third year of marriage... After the fallout happened."
The fallout?
"Hanma and Kisaki started plotting behind your back. They always had been chummy with each other, but this one was the worst. You overheard Hanma say that you were only a puppet to get the Tsukigumi completely."
Miyuki lost all of her appetite.
"Considering how you left them... Hanma was more in favor of the Tsukigumi than you were. But some still trusted in you, like Aya-san." He confronted her and held her shaking hand.
"Kisaki assigned me to you so I watch over you and report to him on what you do," He admitted guiltily making Miyuki frown at him in shock.
"So you were his men all along...?!"
"No, I said I liked you... Remember?" He said painfully, hoping she would believe him.
"I spite both Kisaki and Hanma. I never aligned with them in the first place, even after they joined Toman." He spat.
"Eventually you overworked yourself after you found out. I helped you do your work and sometimes you confide in me because you were lonely. Part of it because you drank too much and spilled your worries out." He said cheekily.
"I just listened to everything as you cried your heart out. You started trusting me after I did not report what happened to Kisaki. We got closer then. Became friends. And then we..." He trailed off nostalgically.
"...And then we fell in love." Miyuki completed in wonder.
"You were different from when I first fell for you, but even after all those years... You're still you. More fiercer, less shy as you used to be... But under all that... You're still Miyuki." He leaned closer and their nose touched.
"We fell in love... And began this secret relationship, knowing it would cost us..." He whispered into her lips, "But we didn't care. We kept going."
He softly kissed her, making her heart flutter.
"I never thought I would see old Miyuki again today..." He whispered in awe. "You were so cute and shy back then. Only passionate for your sister and the Tsukigumi." He smiled cheekily.
"If I were cute and shy, that wasn't me!" She pouted.
"Oh really?" He chuckled. "You forgot, didn't you?"
"Forgot what?"
"You confessed to Baji-san for saving you from drowning. You were so cute back then."
"I CONFESSED?!" She gasped.
"I was a little jealous. After all..." He said with a pout.
"It wasn't Baji-san who saved you. It was me."
"T-Then why didn't I know that?!" Miyuki demanded as she grabbed Chifuyu's collars. Future Miyuki must have been a fool.
"Because Baji-san was secretly happy having someone liking him, even if he didn't know the reason. That's partly why he rejected you. He didn't know who you were."
"Then how did I assume it was Baji-san?!" She shook him.
"Oh. I visited you once in the hospital and left some peyoung. You stormed around Toman asking who liked peyoung since you remember seeing a black jacket." Chifuyu laughed at her past self.
"I... I..." Miyuki's grip loosened. "I'm so... Freaking... Dumb..." She said dejectedly with a sigh, but came to a realization.
"Then how did I not know you until three years ago? You were close with Baji-san, right?" Miyuki asked, wanting answers.
"Sadly, when you like someone, you have tunnel vision, Yuki-chan." Chifuyu scolded her and ruffled her hair. "You saw no one else but him. Not even me, and I was his right hand man."
"Hey... That tickles!" Miyuki huffed as she shuddered.
"After Baji-san rejected you, you were heartbroken but kept trying. But not long after... Baji-san died." Chifuyu looked down. "The Tsukigumi became friends with Toman after that. You wanted to honor Baji-san's death. Toman and the Tsukigumi weren't that close until you left and Hanma and Kisaki tried handling them." Chifuyu sighed and leaned back, but was still holding her hand.
"And with that, concludes all of the story." He rubbed his eyes.
"So... Nice to meet you, Miyuki?" He said with a knowing smile.
Miyuki gulped. He knows! He knows. She took a long sigh.
"Nice to meet you too... Matsuno-kun..."
Ah, what a life.
