During Neville's second year, Augusta Longbottom had been paid a visit by Professor Dumbledore. He asked if she knew that Jane spoke parseltongue. When she admitted that she did, he got mad that she had not informed him.
During Neville's fourth year, she decided to pay him a visit, and demand that he not make Neville do the tournament, but she felt intimidated. She felt that if she brought someone else with her, then she would be far less likely to wimp out. She had told Jasmine that she wanted her to come to threaten to pull her kid out of Hogwarts, and she hadn't said so but Augusta had gotten the impression that she at least suspected the real reason.
Now, Professor Dumbledore had come to see Augusta again, but this time it was not just Augusta that he wanted to speak to. Soon, they were in the Birtch's living room, and Professor Dumbledore explained about the Horcrux hunt the kids were going to go on.
"I don't want my special-needs daughter going on a dangerous hunt," Jasmine said.
"But the world is at stake, and I really think having someone along who speaks parseltongue would be helpful," Professor Dumbledore said. "What if she doesn't go, and the world gets taken over by Voldemort as a result?"
"What if she goes and she gets killed as a result or goes insane?"
"I'll go with them, and I'll make sure nothing horrible happens to Jane. Neville won't let anything horrible happen to her either."
"Maybe I should go too."
"You also have a seven-year-old, and you can't do magic."
A few weeks later, Jasmine went to see Augusta. "I was wondering," Jasmine said, "when do people tell their muggle significant other that they're magical, or that they have magical family members?"
"I wouldn't know. No Longbottoms have ever been in relationships with muggles," Augusta said. She eyed Jasmine's new engagement ring. "In this case, though, I would suggest telling him soon. Want me to come with you? I can prove witches exist pretty easily. By the way, congratulations."
