A/N: She is alive! Ha. Sorry it has been a while. Life has been seriously crazy. Both my boys have recovered from RSV and I am back to work. So here is a chapter. I didn't plan this chapter, but what happened kind of just came to me. A little drama, but also some personal growth for our girls.
I had been following quite a few newer Callie/AZ stories and loving them. It seems everyone is on a little break right now. Hoping all my fellow authors are doing well. The same goes for my loyal readers. Thanks for sticking with my during my hiatus!
Chapter 36
Arizona's POV
Arizona sat patiently at her laptop waiting for the Skype call to be answered. She had been thinking about it since Callie suggested it the day before. She was missing her girlfriend dearly and this little Skype session was much needed.
The previous night at dinner she had enjoyed her time with her fellow golfers. She was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming they were. Everyone praised her and her first two tournaments with the PGA. She had sat next to Alex Karev and she had to admit, he was quickly becoming one of her favorite people. Tim hit it off with a few golfers and caddies. All in all, it was a great night out with a great group of people. Richard Webber announced he was retiring after next weekend and though no one was surprised it was still sad. It felt like the end of an era. The best part was that Arizona learned everyone else hated Burke and O'Malley as much as she did. It was refreshing to hear she was not overreacting.
As the screen finally connected she couldn't help the audible gasp that left her lips when her gorgeous brunette appeared before her. Clearly she had been staring a bit too long because she heard the musical sound of Callie's laugh.
"Are you just going to stare?" Callie asked.
Arizona could hardly form a coherent thought. In front of her, on the screen, was the sexiest thing she had ever seen. Callie's hair hung to her shoulders in beautiful waves. She was wearing a sexy red silk negligee. It clung to the Latina's form in all the right places. Her favorite assets were on full display and Arizona had never hated golf more than that second.
"H-hi Calliope." Arizona whispered.
Met with another laugh, Callie couldn't help but appreciate the reaction from her lover.
"Hi Arizona. I take it you like what you see?" Callie asked.
"More than you could ever imagine." Arizona answered honestly. "You look stunning. I hate that I am here while you are there, looking like THAT."
"18 days my love." The longest 18 days ever.
"18 days feels like a lifetime when I am this far away. How come I have never seen this little number in person?"
"Well, I bought it today. For this video call." Callie smiled shyly at the camera.
"I feel extremely overdressed here." Arizona joked, trying to put Callie at ease. "I very much appreciate this surprise." Arizona's eyes were glued to the screen.
"Well…I agree you are overdressed. How about you lose the shirt?" Callie flirted. Wiggling her eyebrows at the blonde.
Arizona quickly took the hem of her shirt and yanked it over her head. She now sat on her bed in her deep blue bra and her running shorts. Arizona was suddenly grateful she changed into a nicer bra after her shower. She had suspected they may have a little fun on this call, but Callie had definitely surprised her.
"Much better" Callie smiled her megawatt smile.
"God I wish I was there with you now." Arizona whined.
"Well…how about you tell me what you would do if you were…."
Arizona had never been in this position before. She didn't really do relationships, so phone or video sex was never necessary. If she needed, she would go out to the nearest bar and bring someone home. This was just one more new thing she was going to have to adjust to now that she had a girlfriend. It wasn't a bad thing, just something new. She must have taken a little too long to answer because when she looked back at the screen she was met with a very defeated looking Callie.
"You know, this was probably a bad idea. Sorry to put you on the spot." She watched as Callie grabbed her robe and started to cover up, clearly embarrassed.
"No! Don't you dare put that robe on Calliope Torres. This was not a bad idea. I was just a little surprised. I have never done this before. But do NOT cover up. I miss you and I miss your body." Arizona's plea was sincere. "If I were there I would start by kissing you. Your lips are my favorite thing. I would kiss you with everything I have to show you just how grateful I am to have you. Then, as much as it would kill me, I would take off that stunning outfit you have on." Arizona could see Callie's cheeks start to flush. She knew she was on the right track. "Once you were naked I would lay you down and start kissing down your neck the way you like. I would stop just at your collarbone and take both of your perfect breasts in my hands. I would squeeze them as my mouth worked its way closer. Touch yourself Calliope. Touch yourself and pretend it is me."
Arizona was getting into it now. She watched as Callie removed her lingerie and her mouth went dry when her stunning girlfriend was naked on the screen. She watched as Callie began to kneed her breasts just as Arizona had described. Satisfied her girlfriend was just as turned on as she was, she continued.
"I would worship your breasts with my mouth as my hand slowly moved down your body. When I got where I wanted I am sure you would be wet, just like you always are for me. Show me how wet you are baby." Arizona watched as Callie snaked her hand down and slowly began to circle her clit. Callie pulled her hand up and Arizona could see her arousal coating her fingers. Arizona couldn't hold back anymore. She took it upon herself to mimic Callie's actions and dip her hands into her shorts.
"Are you wet for me too, baby?" Callie panted.
"Of course, I am. You are stunning. God. If I were there I would enter you with two fingers hard and deep. I would fuck you with my fingers until you were screaming my name." She watched as Callie began to do just that. She had put the iPad on the bed, so Arizona had full view of her body as she was touching herself as Arizona directed.
"Come with me, Arizona. Touch yourself. I would be doing the same to you if we were together." Arizona began moving her fingers at a faster pace, just as the Latina directed. She could tell by Callie's breathing she was close.
"A-arizona!" Callie called out.
"I am right there with you. Keep going." Arizona panted.
Just as she was about to hit her peak she heard Callie call out on the other end, but the iPad had fallen so she couldn't see her lover. Callie was normally loud, but not that loud.
"Y-yess baby! God I miss you." Arizona called out. She was in too much of a daze initially that she didn't realize the yelling coming from the other line. But suddenly she heard it.
"What the fuck, Mark!" Callie yelled.
"Mark?" Arizona questioned.
"Chill Cal. Nothing I haven't seen before." Was all Arizona heard before she saw red. The male voice on the other end was Mark Sloan. Callie's best friend. Aria's boyfriend…and apparently someone who had seen Callie naked before.
Callie's POV
Just as Callie's orgasm came, it was gone. She didn't hear her front door or her bedroom door open until it was too late.
"A-arizona!" Callie had screamed as she climaxed with her blonde. But the scream quickly turned into an "Ahhh!" as she flipped her iPad down and yanked her covers up to hide her naked body.
"What the fuck, Mark!" Callie yelled.
"Chill Cal. Nothing I haven't seen before." Came Mark's reply.
Callie didn't even register the fact she was still Skyping with her girlfriend. She was too distracted by the fact Mark Sloan had barged in her house.
"What the hell are you doing here, Mark?" She was growing more and more irritated.
"Well, you weren't answering your phone. You said you were leaving for lunch like an hour ago and you are never gone that long, so I was worried. I can see here you are just taking some time for yourself…..nice. Need any help for old time sake?" Mark joked.
"First of all, you are with my sister, so I should kill you for suggesting that. Second of all, I am talking to Arizona…shit. Arizona!" Callie scrambled to grab her iPad praying that it had somehow disconnected and the blonde hadn't heard the conversation that had just taken place.
As she flipped the iPad she saw her blonde, now fully dressed, not looking too pleased.
"H-hey. Sorry about that. Some people don't know how to knock." She tried to play it off.
"Yeah. Sounds like it isn't something he hasn't seen before. What the hell Callie?" Arizona was clearly seething.
Callie looked up at Mark giving him the 'get the hell out' look. Thankfully after years of friendship he knew it well. He mouthed an 'I'm sorry' and was out the door. Callie ran her hands through her hair and threw a shirt on. Knowing this conversation was quickly going to go south.
"Arizona. Just listen." Callie pleaded.
"No. Do not Arizona me. I asked you flat out about your history with him. He was flirty, which is fine. I can tell he is the type to be. But I asked you directly if you two had history and you just laughed, said he was your best friend and was dating your sister. So…tell me. Did you lie to me or does Mark just make it a habit of seeing you naked?" Arizona's cold monotone delivery sent chills down Callie's spine. She knew she was in trouble. Knew she should have answered Arizona's question when she asked it all those weeks ago.
"Mark has been my best friend since I was young. Sure, there was a time where we hooked up. He is with Aria now. Yes, she knows about our past and is okay with it. There were never any feelings there. We were young and immature; I was confused about my sexuality and he was there, and he helped me." Callie explained.
"Yeah…sounds like he was a big help." Arizona mumbled.
"Come on, Arizona. That's not fair. It has been ages since it happened." Callie instantly regretted her statement.
"Define ages." Arizona could tell by Callie's body language they had very different definitions of the term.
"Two years ago." Callie mumbled.
"Two years!? And he is dating your sister now? Does she know it was that recently?!" Arizona yelled. "You lied to me Callie."
"No, Aria doesn't know. We would prefer it stayed that way. We were drunk. It wasn't a big deal." Callie knew she needed to diffuse this situation before it go out of hand. "Arizona. I have not thought of anyone else since I met you. You have to believe that." She pleaded.
"I do believe you. I am not mad you slept with him. We all have pasts, you know mine. I am mad you lied to me. I told you in the beginning, I don't do lies." Arizona's tone was business like. Void of all emotion.
"I know. I know. I should have answered you when you asked. I didn't necessarily lie tough. I was wrong. I am so sorry." Callie pleaded.
"Lies by omission are still lies Callie. Listen, uh, I have to run. My plane is leaving for Boston in about 2 hours. I will talk to you later." Again, the business-like tone. She hated leaving it like this.
"Arizona. Please don't leave it like this. I said I was sorry and I truly am."
"I know you did. I just need a minute Callie. I will talk to you later. Bye." Arizona closed the laptop leaving Callie with just a black screen on her iPad. Shit. What had she done?
Arizona explained her past relationships to Callie and how lies and cheating were the downfall of the only 2 relationships she had ever had. Not only were they the downfall, but they are the reason that Arizona no longer does relationships.
Flinging herself back onto the bed Callie thought about how she could fix this. She had so much of her own shit going on, but Arizona had literally flown across the country to check on her. She had been so amazing from day one. Callie was kicking herself for how she handled this situation. Picking up her phone she called into work for the rest of the day. She knew she needed to give Arizona some space, but she would not be in the right headspace to go about her day.
How was she going to fix this?
Arizona's POV
As Arizona's plane touched down in Boston she turned her phone back on. The 5-and-a-half-hour flight was brutal. They had hit a ton of turbulence and she couldn't stop thinking of Callie. Thinking of the look of hurt on her face when she closed her laptop. Thinking of the fact Callie had lied to her. She had bared her soul to the Latina on one of their first nights together. Told her of her past lovers who hurt her with lie and cheating. No, Callie did not cheat and no, Mark was not a threat to her. But Arizona couldn't do lies. Not when she was on the road for half the year. The partner she was with she had to trust whole heartedly. The weird thing was, despite this situation, she still trusted Callie with everything she had.
Looking at her phone she saw 4 missed calls 2 from Callie, 1 from Teddy, and 1 from her parents. Seeing that she had a voicemail she grabbed her carry on and pressed play.
Arizona…I know you are in the air right now, but I needed to call. I am giving you some space to process but I need you to know that I love you. I love you and I am sorry. Can you, um, maybe, call me tonight? I love you. Bye.
She could hear the sadness in Callie's voice. Hear the regret. She stopped a second to think if she was overreacting. She honestly didn't think she was.
"Come on sis. Let's go home and get some food in you. You've had a long day." Tim smiled sympathetically at her. She had told him all about what happened, and he had agreed Callie was wrong. He didn't think it was grounds for ending the relationship, but he knew his sister couldn't handle lying.
They drove home in silence. Arizona thinking about how she wanted to approach this issue. She knew she wanted Callie and Sofia in her life. She couldn't imagine a life without them, but she was hurt. Deciding she needed some time and space to just process she sent Callie a text.
Got your VM. Just got home. Just need some time alone to think. Love you too. -AZ
Heading into her room in the apartment she shared with her brother she threw her bags down and fell on her bed. She quickly drifted off to sleep hoping tomorrow would be a better day.
Callie's POV
Looking at the text message she received from Arizona Callie couldn't help the tears that fell. She knew that Arizona wasn't breaking up with her, but damn did the coldness hurt.
"Torres. Buck up. If she can't get over the fact we slept together, she is not worth it." A drunk Mark slurred.
Taking a swig of her beer Callie sighed. "It isn't that we slept together. It is that I lied about it." Callie replied.
"Yeah, you fucked up Sis." Aria chimed in.
"Gee…thanks Aria."
"Listen, I know how she feels okay. Do you think it is easy to know that he slept with you? It's not. But that is not a reason not to give someone a chance. Is it weird for me? Yes. But I got over it. Now, Mark and I are in a committed relationship. She will come around. You just have to make it up to her." Aria tried to comfort her sister.
"Yeah. I guess you are right. She said she needed some time, so I am respecting that." Callie sighed.
THREE DAYS LATER
Looking down at her phone Callie huffed. "This is bullshit Aria. It has been three days. That is enough time. She can't even text me?" Callie yelled slamming her phone down.
"Cal. I don't know Arizona well. But I do know you. If you told someone you needed space, you would want them to respect it." Aria wrapped her arms around her sister.
"She didn't say space…she said time. Sofia asked to FaceTime her today.. What do I do?" Callie whined.
"Well I personally would use that as an excuse to reach out." Aria responded.
Callie sat there and suddenly she realized Aria was right. It was the perfect way to have an excuse to text Arizona. She would never turn the 6-year-old down. She quickly picked up her phone and drafted a text. She slid it over to her sister and asked her to take a look. Deeming the text nonchalant enough, Callie took a breath and pressed send. 20 minutes passed and she was pacing the floor. Aria had to head out and Sofia was still in school. Being left alone with her own thoughts was dangerous. She decided to make good use of her time. She cleaned the house, started dinner, emptied out a few drawers and cleared up closet space in anticipation of her blonde coming to stay with them for a while. Looking at the clock she noticed 3 hours had passed. Still nothing from Arizona.
Grabbing her keys and purse she headed to school pick up. She knew that she needed to respect Arizona's wishes but it didn't stop the anger that started to flow as she thought of the fact Arizona was ignoring her. She picked up Sofia and they headed home. Sofia kept the conversation flowing with her full, detailed, recap of her day. Who knew first grade was so exciting?
As Callie was cleaning up dinner she heard the sound of an incoming FaceTime call. She sprinted to the phone and her heart began to flutter as the blonde's picture appeared on the screen. Swiping the touchscreen, she held he breath as she waited for the call to connect. She smiled when she saw Arizona's face come on the screen.
"H-hi!" Callie enthusiastically greeted.
"Um, hey. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I was on the course all day."
"Oh. No worries. Sof just asked about you before school. So, I figured I would send a text." Callie was relieved that Arizona hadn't been ignoring her. She was just golfing.
"It's fine. Is she around?" Arizona asked.
"Yea. Let me grab her for you." Callie smiled. Calling Sofia over she watched as her mini me took the phone and greeted Arizona she heard Arizona laugh and watched as Sofia bolted into the other room to catch up with her favorite blonde. As much as it was killing Callie she let Sofia have her time with Arizona. She knew she was in the wrong here, so she was trying her best to give Arizona the time she asked for.
She was on the couch looking over budget reports from The Calliope when Sofia came out of her room. She handed Callie the phone and walked away. Callie looked down expecting to see Arizona but saw the call had already been disconnected. What the hell?
As Callie sat on the couch she debated texting her girlfriend. Were they still girlfriends? But at this point, she was pissed. It was honestly a little rude not to at least stay on the line to say goodbye. Turning her phone on silent, Callie dove back into the reports until it was time to put Sofia to bed. If Arizona wanted to act like a child, she would let her.
Arizona's POV
"Sof, you can't get a dog without telling your Mom." Arizona just laughed at the 6-year old's plan. The little girl had been asking her mother for a dog for the entire time Arizona had known them. She understood both sides. Who wouldn't love a dog? But, as Callie had said, they were not really home enough for it to be fair. It seems as though the 6-year-old had developed a plan. Though it was actually well thought out for being 6, Arizona doubted it would sway Callie.
"But she won't know. If I just keep it in my room forever." Sofia smiled. Very impressed with herself.
Their conversation continued for the next 20 minutes. When she saw the young Latina yawn, she told her that she was tired too and that they would talk again soon. Before Arizona could ask Sofia to hand the phone back to her mother, the call had ended. Arizona had taken the last three days to do some soul searching. She had realized that while she was upset with Callie, she shouldn't have ignored her the last three days. She knew if her girlfriend had done that to her, she wouldn't have been as patient as Callie had been. Before she could call Callie back she was interrupted by her brother. He wanted to discuss the course for the weekend and their plans for the apartment when the season was over. It seems as though he an Teddy were discussing moving in together. Their apartment was in a prime area of Boston and the rent was actually reasonable.
"Are you trying to kick me out of my apartment Timothy?" Arizona laughed.
"No…not kick you out per say. Just figure out what you plans are. You said something about Miami. You know the whole U-Haul lesbian thing." Tim joked. Arizona picked up the closest object and hurled it at her brother.
"Timothy Daniel. Don't even start. I am not moving in with her. I am staying with her for a while. I have been talking to a real estate agent the last week and think I finally found something down there. So, to answer your question, yes. You can buy me out of the lease." Arizona just smiled. This was a prime apartment. She wasn't going to part with it for free.
"Buy you out!?" Tim gasped. Arizona just rolled her eyes. She would let him sweat it out for a while.
The two of them ended up going out to grab dinner and spend some time together. Arizona loved her brother and was going to miss him when she did head off to Miami. On the way to dinner she sent a text to Callie and was hoping she could catch her when they got home. She needed to talk to her. There was no way she could finish the golf tournament when things were this tense between the two. Not only that, what Arizona hadn't told anyone, was that she had actually put in an offer on a house down in Miami. There was never a doubt she was going down there. She just needed some time to think.
Callie's POV
Callie had finally got Sofia to bed after another argument about getting a puppy. Seriously, what is it with this girl and dogs.
Arizona had finally texted her and asked to talk. She realized how pathetic she was when she looked at the clock. She had been sitting and staring at her phone for 10 minutes. This was not how Callie normally operated. She was the one who was in control. It made her uneasy to have the tables turned, but for the blonde she would wait forever.
Finally, after what seemed like ages, but was only 5 more minutes, her phone rang. She just stared at it. Terrified of what was going to happen. She realized it wasn't a phone call, but a FaceTime. For some reason that made her even more nervous. Finally steadying her hands, she swiped the bar and waited for the call to connect.
Callie couldn't help the smile on her face when she saw Arizona. It had been three long days since she got to see her blonde for more than a split second and she missed her.
Hey…Arizona whispered. Callie had never seen Arizona look so nervous. She immediately felt sick. If the blond looked like this, it had to be because she was breaking up with her.
Hi…. was all Callie could get out before her bottom lip stared to quiver.
Calliope. Don't cry sweetie. I am sorry I left you hanging for three days. I would not have been as patient as you have been. Arizona's sincerity caused the tears to start. Callie was not prepared to actually face the blonde. She thought they were just going to speak over the phone.
Unable to respond through the tears, Callie just shook her head. She could see the concern on Arizona's face, but couldn't speak.
Callie. Take a breath. Come on, you are going to pass out.
S-s-sorry. I-I can j-just t-t-tell you are s-still pissed. She sputtered out.
Actually, I am not. I called to apologize.
Callie's head shot up. "What?" she snapped.
I over reacted. I know you would never lie to me. I think there are a few reasons I freaked out. 1) we were having video sex when this happened. 2) I was feeling insecure about how close you are with someone you had slept with 3) How I feel about you scares me.
Callie just sat there, stunned. This was not how she had expected this conversation to go. She honestly thought the blonde was going to break up with her. She let Arizona continue.
Calliope, I don't get jealous. I don't let myself get into situations where I can be jealous. But with you…with you I wanted to get on a plane to Miami and kick Mark's ass. I didn't know how to process that. I am so deeply sorry for how I reacted. Especially leaving you wondering where we stood for 3 days. That was so wrong, and I am really ashamed of it. Just so you know, omission is a lie in my eyes, so please don't do it again. But I love you and I am sorry. I miss you and I can't go another day without making this right with us.
Through tears, Callie couldn't help the smile that crossed her face. Pretty sure the blonde was done, she finally responded; I am sorry Arizona. It was wrong to not answer you when you mentioned it. Honestly, I am not proud of what Mark and I had. It was convenience more than anything. We both agree what we are now works so much better. If you ever leave me hanging for three days again, I willhop on a jet and hunt you down. Can we agree to talk to each other within 24 hours? Because that really sucked.
She watched as the dimpled smile she missed so much returned to her blonde's face. Yes, 24 hours it is.
The two took the next 3 hours to catch up on the three days they had without each other. Callie wanted to ask about her plans for Miami, but she decided that it was best to give Arizona a little time to make plans. She didn't want her to feel pressured into committing to anything on the spot.
Little did she know, the blonde had much more permanent plans.
