A/N: Took me a while to get this one out. I didn't want to just follow the last Christmas storyline so this is alot of filler just to stick to the timeline.
Chapter 43: Sing to Me
Christmas, Brittany's favorite time of year and Santana's least favorite time of year. The Christmas Concert was fast approaching, as Santana was as un-enthused as ever, much to Mr.Schue's chagrin. She'd plaster on a smile as best she could, but in all reality, even after the better memories of last year, she'd never be able to just love the season unabashedly. To her surprise, a Pierce was joining in on her grinchiness this year, Liv.
"Liv, what's gotten into you?" Daniel asked as the younger Piercel complained about their parents plans to make Christmas cookies.
"I guess I'm growing up. Something Brittany will obviously never do." Liv sneered. Santana saw red, but Liv had already stormed up the stairs.
"How dare they say that about you?" Santana growled angrily across the table to Brittany. Diego and Kelsey were out of town for a music festival that weekend and Ali was out of town for a medical conference. Santana was staying with Pierces the weekend before Christmas and had been trying to tone down her grinchiness but it was abundantly clear Liv had other plans.
"It's fine Santana. They're just having a hard time adjusting to school and life. Christmas probably doesn't appeal when everything else is shit. You know that well." Brittany shrugs.
"But they can't talk to you like that" Santana argues "I was so close to tearing them apart Brittany."
"I'd appreciate if you didn't kill me." Liv says meekly, having returned from their room. "I came to apologize. I'm sorry Brittany. I'm just not feeling the Holiday spirit, but that's no excuse for treating you that way. It won't happen again."
"It better not" Santana said "Or you won't wake up until next Christmas."
"Violent much?" Liv asks "Seems we both have some anger issues that need to be dealt with before the tension breaks the Christmas lights."
"You think you're clever?" Santana asks "I'm just protecting Brittany. Something only I've done successfully." Daniel Pierce sighs loudly, reminding everyone of his presence.
"Hate to interrupt, but violence isn't tolerated in this household nor threats to do such. Tone it down Santana or you won't be welcome here anymore, and that would upset all of us." he says "Liv, tone it down. I really don't know what's got you so upset that Christmas can't fix it, but you can't take it out on everyone else."
"Understood" Liv and Santana say simultaneously, still glaring at each other.
"Oh come on, you two are usually best friends!" Brittany exclaims "Go work it out NOW." They head outside and sit silently for a few minutes before Santana pipes up.
"I'm sorry I threatened you. I'm just really protective of your sister." Santana says "Do you want to tell me what has you in such a foul mood?"
"This is my first Christmas since I came out and I don't know. It feels like Christmas is catered towards the normies." Liv shrugs.
"You just don't know where to look. I can help with that, if you'll let me." Santana offers.
"Really?" they ask and Santana nods "that'd be great. I've felt like I don't fit into all these traditions as I am now but hopefully this will help."
"You know, though, your family's traditions really have nothing to do with your gender. I really think if you just embrace the Pierce Christmas Spirit you'll feel better. That worked for me." Santana smiles encouragingly "But I'll get you some queer holiday movies okay? And maybe drop some hints on gifts that would be extra meaningful for you this year okay?"
"I'll try. I just don't feel very joyful." Liv looks down.
"I know what that's like, but no one can improve that better than your family." Santana reminds "Let's go see what we can join in on, okay?" Liv nods, and slowly, their relationship now mended, the two of them enjoy the activities with everyone else.
Santana gets some time alone that evening and has a chance to work on a present for Brittany. She wasn't yet sure how to beat the hand-embroidered guitar strap from last year, but she knew it had to be special. It was barely a few weeks ago when she'd gotten the ducks for Brittany, who she'd just checked on before doing some online shopping on the back porch of her house. They'd been her only way to escape the Pierce household, and she was lucky Brittany hadn't insisted on joining her. Still, the question remained, what did she get the girl that she'd gotten so much for. That's when she got an idea. Going to Columbus had its risks, but with her father gone it was far less dangerous than before. Her abuela and her Mami wouldn't hurt her, but she was still nervous to visit Tio Javier alone. What she wants will take time, so she decides to call him and have it prepared and have Diego accompany her when he returns in a few days.
"Santana!" Javier says as he picks up the phone "What seems to be the trouble mija?"
"Hola Tío, no es muy bueno. Just have a request." Santana says "I was hoping you could make something really special for me."
"Dios Mio Santana, it's Christmas season, you know I'm very busy. I wished you'd called sooner. But don't worry, Tio Javi always has time for you." his smile can be heard in his voice.
"I was hoping to get Brittany a guitar. For Christmas." Santana bites her lip- it's a huge request.
"You're girlfriend? Si, I can do it, she makes you happy, and this will mean the world to her I'm sure. Let's work out some details then." Javier lists out all the things he needs to know and Santana supplies the information easily.
Back at the Pierce household, Brittany has the same problem as Santana, what to get her. She figures that maybe Liv can help, so she asks her sibling.
"Liv, what do you think Santana would like for Christmas?" Brittany asks, scrolling painfully through yet another boring list of typical presents.
"Certainly none of the stuff on those lists." they say "It's gotta be something meaningful, she still wears the necklace you got her daily."
"Giving her more jewelry doesn't seem like the answer, though she does love bling." Brittany admits "Any ideas?"
"You two have a scrapbook right?" Liv says, and Brittnay has no idea how they know but nods "When was the last time either of you worked on it?"
"Well, we've tucked the pictures in, but honestly we haven't done any design work on it since Santana asked me to homecoming last year. We meant to do it for our anniversary, but it just didn't happen." Brittany admits.
"Looks like you have some crafting to do then." Liv shrugs and leaves Brittany with that. Which means Brittany needs to get the scrapbook from Santana's house. It was time for a super spy mission. Brittany knows Diego and Kelsey will be home tomorrow, so all she has to do is sneak away from Santana. Little does she know that the Latina will make this easier than expected.
It's two days before Christmas and Brittnay has yet to get a moment away from Santana and her parents long enough to sneak into the Lopez household. Liv has noticed their sister's nervousness at not getting a start on the present and has done everything in their power to try and help free up some time to no avail. They ask Brittany to take them ice skating- Santana comes with. Brittany offers to pick up groceries for her mom- her mom brushes her off. Santana assures her the ducks are fine in Diego's care.Brittany Is barely eating her breakfast when Santana steps outside to take a call. Everyone assumes it's Ali- she's getting home late that night.
"Tio Javi?" Santana says closing the glass door.
"Santanita, I finished the guitar. Can you come pick it up today?" he asks.
"Of course. I'll call Diego and we'll head over. It's time to visit Abuelo's grave and Emmy's as well." Santana admits.
"Lo siento. See you soon mija." Javier says, hanging up the phone. Santana goes back inside.
"So Britt, Diego and I are going to Columbus to visit Abuelo and Emmy's graves. Are you gonna be okay staying here without me today?" Santana asks. Immediately Brittany's eyes light up knowing she has tons of time to get her gift done.
"Yeah that's fine. Be careful, okay? And say hi for me. Especially if you see Javi or your abuela." Brittany says.
"Of course babe. Diego is on his way to pick me up. I'm gonna get ready." Santana heads upstairs and gets dressed. She wonders if she'll see her abuela- she wouldn't mind seeing her. In fact, even seeing her Mami wouldn't be so bad. It's scary though. She knows her father still has friends in Columbus. It's best to avoid alerting them. She hears Diego honk outside and quickly throws her jacket on.
"Bye Britt, Bye Liv!" Santana says as she runs out the door and climbs into the car.
"It's early." Diego says "You're so lucky I love you."
"The feeling is mutual. I'll buy you a coffee." Santana promises.
"Alright, let's go get your girl a guitar then. Are we really visiting the graveyard too?" Diego asks.
"Yeah. It's been too long." Santana says.
"I understand Tana. I just want to be careful. I know Javi doesn't speak to them and would never reveal that you were coming into Columbus but…" Diego sighs.
"I know. Asher is here and he's a good guard dog too." Santana says, looking at the dog sleeping in the backseat.
"Lo siento. It's Christmas. We should be happy. You are happy right?" he asks.
"The nightmares aren't as bad this year." Santana assures.
Meanwhile, Brittany calls Kelsey to make sure she's home to open the door for her.
"Brittany?" Kelsey yawns "Why aren't you asleep at…" Kelsey looks at the clock "oh it's 10 am. Diego told me to keep sleeping when he left."
"He loves you." Brittany teases and hears Kelsey laugh "But uh, you're home then right?"
"Yes Brittany, I am home at Casa Lopez. Why? Isn't Santana with Diego?" Kelsey asks.
"She is, but I need to get something from her room." Brittany says "It's for her Christmas gift."
"Speaking of, I have absolutely nothing for Diego…" Kelsey says "Alright, I'll make you a deal. I'll let you in if you help me with Diego's gift."
"Kels, I need to work on Sanny's gift as much as possible." Brittany whines.
"Please, I have no idea what to get him." Kelsey sighs "He's so jealous of all of your guys' pets though…"
"I think you figured it out. Now are you gonna let me in?" Brittany asks.
"If you go to the shelter with me." Kelsey bargains.
"Fine! But make sure you clear another pet with Ali, she wasn't exactly thrilled with our ducks." Brittany says.
"Because you spent her money on them! But I will. She'll say yes. I guarantee it." Kelsey promises. Brittnay chuckles and gets ready to go. She realizes she'll also need to go to the art supply store and starts to stress about finishing in time again.
"Liv?" Brittany asks as she zips up her coat.
"What's up?" Liv asks from their spot at the table where Brittnay is sure they are working on drawings for everyone's gifts.
"Would you have time to help me with San's gift when I get back?" she pleads.
"Yes, I can use a glue stick Britt." Liv promises "Now go! You're on a time limit."
Brittany thanks her sibling as she leaves and heads to the Lopez house.
"Brittany!" Kelsey says "So what exactly are you getting Santana?" the elder girl asks as she opens the door.
"I'm fixing up our scrapbook. We haven't done much TLC on it in ages." Brittany admits.
"I see, well go get it then." Kelsey says and Brittany runs upstairs and grabs it. "So exactly how much work are you looking at?"
"About a year's worth…" Brittany shows Kesley the pictures all tucked in haphazardly.
"Holy crap. Now wonder you were giving me a hard time about needing as much time as possible to work on this." Kelsey says "anyway I can help?"
"Well I need to head to the art supply store so I was hoping after we go to the shelter we could go to the pet shop that's next to that?" Brittany asks.
"Oh, of course! I'm glad you agreed, cause I kind of just realized I have no transportation since Diego borrowed my car. Ali says that it will teach him and Santana responsibility if she doesn't buy them cars. I'm pretty sure it just turned the two of us into chauffeurs." Kelsey points out.
"Santana doesn't like driving either though." Brittany says "and I do, so it works out for us."
"Interesting. Well we better get a move on, we are going to run out of time. They're probably halfway there already!" Kelsey says and they run out the door. Brittnay safely secures the scrapbook in the trunk and sets the car up for a dog. They get to the shelter and find it flooded with parents wanting a puppy for Christmas.
"Tell me you're not here for a puppy." the shelter worker says as they come in "We have lots of other dogs, still relatively young too." they try to sell it."
"That would work." Kelsey says and Brittany raises an eyebrow.
"I do NOT want to train a puppy and Diego is a total softy." Kesley says and turns to the worker "They have to be very calm though, and friendly with other dogs, cats, and ducks."
"No promises on ducks, but I'll do my best." they say leading them back "Take a look and find anyone in the vest for help."
"Anything in particular you're looking for?" Brittany says, sticking close to Kesley as a dog barks as they walk past.
"There's no way you're scared of dogs. Asher is intimidating." Kelsey crosses her arms.
"Ash is, but never aggressive. I was bit as a kid." Brittany admits the same thing she'd told Santana when they'd gotten Asher.
"Okay. I get it. Let's see. Oh my gosh, Brittany!" Kelsey says "It says this one's name is Uno! Is he…"
"Asher's brother?!" Brittany says and sees the shelter worker who'd helped when they adopted Asher. "Excuse me, but do you remember me?"
"You came with a Latina girl the same age as yourself, right? Adopted a puppy, pit bull husky mix? Quatro?" they rattle off and Brittany nods eagerly.
"Yes that's me, I can't believe you remember that!" Brittany shakes her head "This one, Uno, is this his brother? Why is he still here?"
"Brittany everyone knows you here. Yes, this is his brother. He was adopted shortly after you adopted Quatro-"
"Asher. We named him Asher." Brittany interrupts.
"Right of course. Well Uno was adopted, though they didn't rename him. They brought him back when they realized they didn't want to deal with his fur. Did you want to say hello?" the worker asks.
"Kels?" Brittany asks.
"Yes please. I'm Kelsey, I'm dating the Latina's brother." She introduces herself.
"You're going to reunite them?" they ask excitedly.
"Hopefully. Is Uno calm and friendly with other animals and lots of people?" Kelsey asks.
"Extremely. He hasn't barked this whole time despite the echoes in here. It was a little hard to get him to trust us again, but that's usual for abandoned friends." the worker lets them into the pen. "Uno, I have some people who'd like to meet you." Slowly but surely, he approaches them. Unlike Asher, his coloration was black with brown spots, but he similarly has a white belly. His fur is a bit thicker than Asher's, but overall he is very similar in personality.
"Hey Uno" Kelsey says, reaching out and putting him after he seems comfortable. He wags his tail and Brittnay joins in after a few minutes.
"He likes you." the worker says "You've got to take him. He's been here a while."
"Wait you mean…" Brittany looks at them and they nod sadly "Kels we have to."
"Definitely. We'll take him." Kelsey says "How perfect is this?" she whispers to Brittany.
"Almost too good to be true. But if I've learned anything over the past year with San, I've learned to believe in destiny and miracles." Brittany says. The process to adopt is a bit slow, but they finish quicker than many of the other adoptees since they already have a proven reputation. They head to the pet store and art store and agree to meet back at the car in fifteen minutes. Kelsey is only getting the basics without Diego, so her shopping will go as quickly as Brittany's well planned list. They make record time and head back to the Lopez house. They both check in the ducks really quickly, Brittnay happy to see her fowl friends, before they part ways as Brittany heads home to work on Santana's present. They'd received an update as they got back that they'd made it to Columbus accompanied by Diego flipping off a selfie Santana took from the passenger seat. Time was of the essence!
"Britt! Finally you're home!" Liv says as their sister comes in armed with the scrapbook and art supplies "C'mon, we'll set up at the table I've got it ready."
"I'm hungry." Brittany whines "Can't I at least make a sandwich?"
"Mom made you one, it's at the table, come on!" Liv says excitedly. Brittany nods and eats her sandwich as Liv unpacks everything. Together they glue pictures to square paper and Brittany does some beautiful handwritten lettering. She has Liv check her spelling along the way, her sleepiness messing with her. They reminisce over memories of last Christmas and their Nationals win and more as they put it together carefully. Brittany pings as they get to last Christmas.
SANNY BEAR: heading home. All went well. Saw abuela at abuelos grave and she gave me something I want to show you tonight.
Brittany had known this meant they had a little more than an hour to finish so they sped through it. She sent a text to Kelsey in case she hadn't been notified. Within the hour the scrapbook was done. Brittany quickly hides it in her parents office, the one place Santana won't see it. She lays down for a nap and doesn't even hear her girlfriend come home. This works well for Satana who has to reveal her secret gift by having the Pierces hide it in their room.
They remind her that Brittany's existing guitar has special meaning, the reasoning something Santana had just learned. Apparently it had belonged to Brittany's grandfather. Santana promised this guitar had a different sound, and it did. Brittany's existing guitar is a simple dreadnought, but the one Javier had made was an auditorium guitar. She didn't get into all the details, but assured them Brittany would have reason to play this one more publicly which would spare her grandfathers from the wear and tear it had been getting.
She makes her way upstairs and finds Brittany passed out on the bed. Asher whines, he missed his Mama.
"Huh?" Brittany mumbles as she blinks open her eyes "Ash? Where's Mami?"
"Behind you baby." Santana whispers and Brittany rolls over and sees mocha eyes staring back at her sleepy blue "You fell asleep. You okay?
"Mhm. Tired I guess." Brittany yawns "What did you wanna show me?"
"My abuela gave me a copy of her recipes." Santana says pulling out a notebook "She spent hours transcribing them. She was going to mail it to me but insisted on giving it to me in person when we saw her at Abuelo's grave. She even marked all the ones she made for dates with him with a heart."
"Does that mean I'm getting more yummy food?" Brittany asks.
"Yes baby. But you seem really tired still. Do you want to go back to sleep? I told Asher not to wake you but he missed you." Santana smiles as the dog wiggle between them to get his love.
"No, I wanna be with you." Brittany says even as her eyes droop.
"I'll be here with you. I can turn on It's A Wonderful Life." Santana says.
"That sounds nice."Brittany says "I don't want to miss our last few days before the New Year."
"Me neither baby." Santana promises "But I also don't want to see you exhaust yourself. It's okay." Brittany nods and snuggles into Santana's side, Asher finding his spot on the other side of his Mama up against her back.
Diego arrives back at the Lopez house and Kelsey knows that her gift won't wait the two days until Christmas, but she still wants it to be a little bit of a surprise. She has temporarily hidden Uno in the guest bedroom upstairs.
"I'm home." Diego calls out, putting the keys in the bowl by the door "I hope you didn't miss your car too much."
"It wasn't a problem babe." Kelsey says, greeting him in the entryway "Brittany needed some help with Santana's gift, so I agreed in exchange for transportation to get yours."
"Waiting until the last minute are we?" Diego teases "Just kidding. Yours is coming home with Ali, I special ordered it in Cincinnati. She's saving me a whole lot of shipping fees."
"I'm not worth shipping?" Kelsey pouts.
"Hun, when you see the gift, you'll realize why paying that price again for shipping would be really difficult." Diego promises "You know my job isn't exactly lucrative."
"I know babe. But you love it, and you're still going to school." Kelsey says "I'm proud of you."
"Thanks. I was gonna go lay down for a nap, did you want to join me?" Diego asks.
"I do, but I'm going to feed the ducks and change their water first." Kelsey says.
"I can't believe San got Brittany ducks. How many pets do those two need? What happens when they graduate high-school?" Diego asks.
"They'll probably live here." Kelsey says "We do."
"I suppose so. Well I'm going to lay down for a bit." Diego says and goes and lays down. Kelsey kisses his cheek as he goes before going out and taking care of the ducks. Then she sneaks up the stairs to check on Uno. He greets her happily, clearly not a fan of being locked up, understandably. She takes him down stairs and sits him by the piano. She carefully sneaks out her electric drum set and starts playing, knowing it will wake Diego.
Fever dream high in the quiet of the night
You know that I caught it
Bad, bad boy
Shiny toy with a price
You know that I bought it
Diego wanders out at the sound of Kelsey singing and takes a minute to register what he's seeing
Killing me slow, out the window
I'm always waiting for you to be waiting below
Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes
What doesn't kill me makes me want you more
Finally he realizes that there really is a dog sitting by the piano.
"OH MY GOD KELS IS THAT A DOG?" He says and Kelsey nods stopping her song .
"This is Uno, Uno this your papi, Diego." Kelsey says and she can immediately see the two bonding.
"Wait…uno? Is this Asher's brother?" Diego ask and Kelsey nods happily. Diego gets up and kisses her hard.
"Best Christmas present ever! I love you so much Kels. Forever and ever. Seriously." Diego says "The last six months with you have been the best of my life."
"Mine too. And even though I'm no where near ready to have human kids with you, I thought we could start with Uno." Kelsey says.
"Thank you Kels. I couldn't have asked for anything better." Diego says.
Christmas Eve arrives, and sometime during the night Ali had gotten home. Santana was going to stay at Pierce's Christmas Eve regardless of any trips taken out of town by Ali or Diego, so the most important thing about her arrival home was delivering Diego's gift, at least in his eyes. Ali was most excited to get to meet Uno and to see her son and niece again. Santana and Brittany came over in the late afternoon with Asher and Lady Domino to meet Uno.
"Tia!" Santana said as soon as she came in the door, running to the woman's arms for a hug, delegating Brittany to Asher duty "I missed you so much, but this year has been a lot better than last."
"I'm glad to hear that. So what did you get Brittany for Christmas?" Ali asks.
"It's a surprise. You're coming over tomorrow morning to their house right?" Santana asked, looking at the rather undecorated Lopez household. With Ali going out of town, Santana staying at the Pierces, and Diego and Kelsey attending the music festival they'd decided to keep things very plain.
"Yes, everyone will come over ,even Uno" Ali promises. This prompts Santana to turn her attention to Uno and Asher who seem to instinctively remember each other. Lady Domino does her best to join in on the fun, but the two big dogs are pretty intimidating. Once they calm down though, she finds a cuddling spot between them.
"I'm glad Asher has a dog friend at home now." Santana says to Diego who hasn't stopped smiling since he met Uno yesterday "So what did you get Kels?"
"Can you keep it a secret?" Diego asks and Santana nods eagerly "I got her this gorgeous necklace with a matching pair of earrings. It's a promise necklace, it's got a bar with DiegoKelsey engraved on one side and Siempre Amo on the other. I think she's really gonna like it. The earrings are sapphires, matching sapphires on each end of the bar."
"It sounds gorgeous." Santana smiles.
"What are you two whispering about?" Brittany asks.
"Kelsey's gift." Santana says "I'll tell you about it later" the Latina says seeing Kelsey's curiosity piqued.
"Okay, guess I can wait. So are things agreed upon for tomorrow morning?" Brittany asks.
"Yup, everyone will be at the Pierce house. Are you sure your parents don't mind hosting this year?" Santana asks.
"We're family, of course they don't mind." Brittany says "They wanted to, they didn't want Ali to trouble over anything as soon as she got back from her trip. If they all wanted to come over tonight they could."
"Really?" Diego says "I'd love to have more time with Liv, I do miss them. Plus Kels and I can't stay long in the morning. We promised to see her parents in the afternoon."
"Let me call and ask. We might need you to bring your own air mattress." Brittnay says excusing herself to the entryway.
"What's this about air mattresses?" Ali asks joining the conversation
"Well, hopefully you can all come over tonight. The den is empty and spacious so we were hoping you might be able to join us for Christmas Eve dinner." Santana says.
"They said yes!" Brittany says coming back into the room "As long as you can bring one air mattress we can unfold the futon down there."
"Got it covered Britt." Diego says "well, we better start getting ready here and setting the ducks up for the night."
"Of course, we need to get back and help with dinner." Santana says "Well I do. Brittany will be prepping for company." They part ways to meet again in a few hours for dinner, the annual Christmas Eve pajamas and watching of a final Christmas movie, all capped off with a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" by Mr. Pierce.
It's bright and early the next morning when Liv and Brittnay rouse everyone by blasting Jingle Bell Rock on every speaker in the house. Mrs.Pierce is the first down the stairs starting the coffee, followed shortly by Ali who runs out to get donuts and bagels for everyone's breakfast. Brittany manages to make hot chocolate for herself and Liv without trouble and they sit impatiently at the table waiting for everyone else to appear. Mr.Pierce is next down the stairs and he sends Whitney to sit down while he fixes coffee for himself and her. Diego and Kelsey come up the stairs together grabbing a mug of coffee and brewing some more. Ali gets back with food and finally Santana stumbles down the stairs straight to the coffee pot. She can tell that the Pierce's haven't brought down Brittany's present as there's nothing big by the tree. Pierce mouths that he'll bring it down as soon as everyone has eaten. Food is eaten quickly as everyone gathers in the living room for the sharing of gifts. Pierce runs up the stairs and returns with the big gift.
"So, if it's okay, I'd like to give Brittany her present from me first." Santana says. Everyone nods in agreement and Santana takes the guitar case from Pierce and sets it in the blonde's lap "Merry Christmas babe."
"You didn't!" Brittany says, unzipping the guitar case to find a beautifully hand carved guitar. The cherry wood matches the grand piano at the Lopez house and she plays a few chords, immediately recognizing the difference between this and her other guitar. "You shouldn't have San. This must have cost you a fortune." Brittany says.
"I got the family discount from Tio Javi." Santana smiles, "That was one of the main reasons I went to Columbus."
"You better thank him a thousand times over." Brittany says "Thank you so much." From there, Brittany gave Santana the scrapbook, Liv received a bounty of new clothes that fit their new style and gender expression, Diego gave Kelsey the necklace which she cried over, Diego and Santana gave Ali homemade coupon books and a few new cardigans, and Mr and Mrs Pierce traded new mugs. Brittany and Liv also have their parents homemade coupon books and some pride themed t-shirts. A few more gifts of clothes and little gifts were exchanged. All the pets got new sweaters that only Asher seems to really appreciate, but they also all got a special Christmas treat. Diego and Kelsey headed out and Ali, still tired from traveling, stayed only through lunch before heading home. That evening was the last that Brittany and Santana were going to spend together until New Years, so they made sure to stay up and watch movies until Santana left the next afternoon. They both had therapy sessions in between the two holidays, and their therapists were glad that they'd successfully navigated Christmas nightmares together.
New Years Eve arrived quickly and Santana was hosting the Glee party again that year. It was more lowkey and more of a hangout than a usual Lopez party, but everyone seemed to really enjoy that. Rachel and Quinn were showing off the matching necklaces they'd gotten each other for Christmas, and Britrnay was breaking in her new guitar by the fire pit. After the ball dropped, everyone went home, alcohol having been not allowed that year. Santana wanted to make Brittany a promise for the New Year through song, so she stayed in the living room while Brittany made sure everything was proper taken care of in the backyard. The fire was out, the ducks were properly locked in the coop, all the heating lamps were working and the pool cover was double secured in preparation of heavy snow in the coming night. It had already started to fall when Brittnay was out there, so after a quick potty break for the dogs she went inside to warm up. Santana handed her a mug of coffee and gestured for her to sit on the couch.
"I want to play you something. Something that tells you everything you've been for me the past year, and how much I can't wait to spend another year by your side." Santana said.
We're flying at the speed of sound
Two hands colliding faster now
And I just can't believe it
Everything that I needed
All things do surely fall back down
Fall back down
Fall back down
Brittany smiled as Santana stared at her with every word. Brittany echoing where the song usually did.
Sing to me, won't you Brittany
'Cause I know that time is on your mind
But time is just a construct
I can't wait to see all that's meant to be
And I know the doubt is close behind
But honestly, you're right where I wanna be
Santana motions for Brittany to join her in singing, and Brittany happily does, taking lead.
Lost and then slowly come undone
(Come undone)
Will you hold underneath my sun
(Will you hold underneath my)
'Cause I just can't believe it
(Just can't believe it)
All these things that I'm seeing
(All these things that I'm seeing)
No, no, I'll give you everything I've got
(Everything I've got)
All I've got
Take everything if you want
They stare into each other's eyes moving through the chorus and the bridge. They finish the song and seal the promise, the promise of being each other's perfect everything, with a kiss.
But honestly, you're right where I wanna be
