Chapter 7: How to be a Kamen Rider Super Sentai Masked Hero
It's been two days since I got Quartz and... I was glad to see that I was suddenly yanked into trouble just as he came into my life.
I guess I was expecting a bit too much when I saw that as how Illya was prompted to become a magical girl in the canon timeline and... then again, there were reasons that saw her pushed into trouble as soon as she met Ruby. One could say that the issue had been around well before she got her powers, with Rin and Luvia doing a poor job as teammates, but since the perception I got from Zelretch was mixed between the mysterious and yet 'useful' kind of guy when certain situations happened and the magical troll master that some of the fandom saw him as, I braced for any issue tied to this new responsibility of mine.
Luckily for me, that didn't come to be a genuine situation for a few days, giving me the chance of actually testing out what kind of things I can do with stuff, both practical and 'fighting-wise'. One of my greatest worries was... being a 'magical girl' so to speak since Zelretch seemed to have made it a personal mission to have magical girls as apprentices, so I was a bit tense when Quartz finally brought up his capacity to transform me in a more 'combat-fit frame'. I was a bit tense about it, but I trusted the chill Mystic Code to not backstab me that way. He had been so polite up to this point and... I came to not regret how things turned out.
Instead of a very frilly and feminine mahou shoujo outfit meant to shatter my will to exist, I found my body covered with an armor that felt form-fitting to my current height and sizes. Instead of the lengthy transformation, I was greeted by a shorter version as light bathed my entire self just briefly before vanishing and leaving me behind with the full-armored suit on me. I blinked in surprise, feeling a bit 'better' in that form through the energy coursing over it. I was in my flat when this happened and... It looked so fucking cool! I didn't recognize the precise suit itself, but I could tell one thing. I was just turned into a mix of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai.
Luckily for me, I had a mirror to further cement that view as I was greeted by a very familiar sight as some of the design felt familiar, but coming from neither of the franchises I just thought of. No, this one was from... what?
"Is this form inspired from Masked Hero Koga... from Yu-Gi-Oh?"
"I'm surprised you recognized it. But yes, I had a chance to learn of 'masked heroes' through a mistake my creator made. Yu-Gi-Oh is known to have Mahou Shoujos but also Heroes. A mistake that I'm glad he made."
"Me too, pal," I replied mirthfully, only not realizing something else. "My voice is also... different?"
"I decided to also apply something to further disguise your identity if needed. Despite the chances of dragging civilians within this conflict being low, it is for the best to prevent an issue rather than deal with it with minimal chance of avoiding identification."
"...Quartz, you are currently my favorite Kaleidostick."
"I will treasure this compliment, Master, but I believe the bar is quite low as it is."
"Hush, you know Sapphire is not that far from being as good as you are," I rebuked and the Kaleidostick hummed back, deciding against trying to fight against that legitimate truth.
Still, this wasn't the only time I got to test this form. I took the chance to check this more by finding a small secluded area in the forest nearby the city and tried to check what I could do with it, having no plans to mimic Illya's first battle against a Card Servant. I might be a Gamer, but I need to have this tutorial down the count before getting thrown into the fray. The result was that I had a general understanding of what I could and couldn't do, giving me the edge in case I needed to be ready for any sudden attacks. Things were going to be fine, that much I could say.
As I braced for any eventual need for me to jump into action, I also took care of my job as things were never too quiet as a teacher, especially with the cast of characters in my class always ending up having to fix a problem or two. And as I finished signing some paperwork to conclude the day, I found my task interrupted by someone approaching my desk and looking clearly upset about something.
"S-Sensei?" I blinked, looking up from the papers on my desk to see a crying little girl in front of me. Shoulder-length brown hair combed with a short side-tail, shy dark-brown eyes and looking fairly tiny for someone her age.
Katsura Mimi, her name quickly in mind as I frowned over why she would be here. She was the one of the shortest students in the class, and yet she had scored a noticeable popularity with most of the girls due to her 'cute factor'. I did little to be part of that form of 'society' that normally formed through classes, something I thought was traditionally meant to remain untouched by teachers if it was working well for the students and no toxic element was being elevated through it. In this particular case, I could think of nothing that could have caused the child's current distress.
Well, beyond the wet paper that had a half-finished drawing in it.
Turns out that's what happens if you draw near an open water bottle that has been opened recently. The situation was actually simple in nature, but complicated in practice. Little Mimi wanted to prepare a special drawing for her sister as her birthday was soon to come. A quick glance at the drawing could tell she had the skill to do something like that, but the unexpected accident had messed up that project altogether. She had spent a good part of the whole day's breaks from lessons to get this piece done in time.
Before this circumstance, the girl opted to ask me for a solution. Truth be told, I should have expected something like that, but I just couldn't believe it would come down to this very circumstance. The crying got some attention on the situation, and I knew I would have to somehow solve this despite the fact... I suck at drawing. I just didn't have the good precise hand many would need, but I had something that helped a lot in a situation like this one.
"How about we fix it together, Mimi-chan. Take a chair and sit with me so we can deal with this issue. There's no reason to cry about it, we're going to solve this."
She was rather upset at the notion it would take so much time, but I argued I would keep her company so she could get it done quicker. Despite her uncertainty, the girl nodded and went on with the task once again. She picked a chair, sat beside me as she started to carefully set up the basis with a pencil. Surprisingly enough, her understanding of drawing was a bit advanced, but nonetheless flawed in some aspects. I helped out in tracing some lines since she too didn't exactly have a precise aim when drawing lines that were too long.
But as some other children could see as they remained to watch this entire scene unfold, the more Mimi felt compelled to get it done and... she was grinning eye to eye as she was done, holding the newly-made drawing close to her chest and thanking me profusely. It was a nice action and one that got me the chance to drop a head pat in before she left. Relief washed over me at the circumstance, but the reason why I remember that very event was because that very day was also when I stumbled on my first 'issue' of the interdimensional kind.
"I perceive a disturbance. It's near the 'Westerner' Quarter."
The southern end of Miyama City, where most of the modern houses were in Fuyuki City. I frowned at that comment as I knew that it was fairly away from home, but I decided against whining as I knew how important this situation was and how we had little control on where the issues would come up. So I diverted from my usual trip back home to see what was up, expecting a lot of things considering this couldn't be tied to the Ainsworth. I could clearly recall how Darius wouldn't make any plans to attack another dimension unless he was 'provoked' into it, such as how Miyu was going to be sent in this dimension and force him and his family to track her down here. What I found once I arrived at my destination was a rift similar to the one where Servant Cards would pierce and create Mirror Worlds where to operate within this dimension.
I took a look around before actually transforming, really not planning to deal with chances of being caught early on about this and then considering all circumstances before jumping through the portal.
"So, I suppose that the anomaly might be inside there. Do we have the means to determine what we're dealing with?"
"In this very moment and within these circumstances? No. I'm afraid that the source here is too polluted to operate a highly-detailed analysis. Do you think we should wait a moment to be more prepared?"
"Can we afford that?" I asked back, knowing that there was a reason why those rifts had to be closed quickly and the Kaleidostick sighed.
"I'm afraid not, Master."
Well shit. Still, this wasn't the worst thing possible and I could tell I was prepared to handle whatever was inside that portal. So, without further ado, I stepped through and prepared for the worst. I vaulted the portal, taking a moment to look left and right. As expected the mirror world looked like Fuyuki would, except it was empty beyond us and... the Servant that was nowhere in sight.
Normally the rift would lead straight into where the anomalous Servant was, yet it was just us within the premises of this area. Did my hesitation actually led the Servant to leave? Was that even possible? There were so many questions in that regard, but not much time to think about it considering I would have to look through the entire place without knowing where the target was hiding. Before I could leave to try and get this lengthy task started, my attention was suddenly stolen by a loud noise coming from the rear and Quartz's own warning about it.
"Large metallic object rushing behind you."
I jumped to the side, the transformed state I was in giving me the chance to dodge to the side and let the Iron Maiden blitzing through the ground miss me completely. That should have been the only clue I would need to know what I was up against, but then I heard a sadistic laugh coming from the direction where the torture machine came from. My gaze snapped in that direction, and I gritted my teeth as I spotted a certain malicious woman approach me.
"I guess you will be more entertaining than one of those knights of old... little human." The older fictional version of Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess herself- Carmilla's devious smile was heightened by her dark mask, a tool meant to give 'depth' to her golden-eyed gaze filled with just hunger and devilous amusement. "Now, come forth so I can relish in your blood."
"...How about no?"
She snorted. "I wasn't asking."
"I wasn't offering!"
Multiple Iron Maidens rushed towards me, and I saw knives soaring from above and twirling toward my general position. I dodged again and as Quartz adopted a blaster-like appearance, I could tell that my first day as a Masked Hero was going to be rough.
Bloody even if we have to be punny about it...
AN
Oh my! Why is Carmilla here? And why isn't she the cake-loving cute version of her?
