Chapter 18: A Different Farm (2/3)
Many would have found the overall 'choking' sense of congregation around me somewhat suppressing. I could reason that, in some instances, I would have felt that too.
After all, I was introduced to a fairly big list of people to meet all at once. Not all farm workers, of course, but it came close to actually daring for that effort. Still, considering the way things were handled, I have to say that I didn't feel that much 'off-put' by the sheer number of Primes I met within the next few hours. There was just a sense of kinship that transcended blood-relation, and Diana managed to keep things from getting too 'overwhelming' for me. Despite that, when Mora actually asked me how I was handling this whole matter, the answer I got for her had her pause for a moment.
"Seems like one of those times I visit the extended family. It's odd, but not in a bad way."
It was a strange way to answer, that's what I was told a few times when old friends of mine would ask how I tended to react to that sort of stuff. I was not an asocial person, but I still didn't go out of my way to meet and befriend everything around me that could breath, think and talk. And while I initially hated these extended family visits, I still ended up growing accustomed to those the older I got and... right now, I couldn't help but find the situation somewhat nostalgic. Diana definitely knew that, same for Maverick, yet I could tell from the quizzical looks of some people I was meeting that they really found the overall situation weird but amusing. All but two individuals which soon tagged along, one driven by genuine interest of befriending someone, the other by boredom.
The first one eager to see what was going on was a Cat Prime with blonde hair and white fur. Her eyes a bright orange and her outfit fairly... interesting. She was wearing a small red shirt with an open wide window over her cleavage which stopped by her midriff, similar to the Mora was using. Her lower body was covered by a short pair of mini-jeans that held quite tightly around her lower body.
She was a hottie, and her name was Sarah Silkie. And while that while depiction would suggest a slutty individual, the truth was that this girl was the sort of friendly airhead with close to no sex in mind. That, and the fact her sister, Rachael, was someone that didn't like leaving Sarah alone with unknown guys. This one was a black-haired Cat Prime with dark fur and yellow eyes. She was wearing a sleeveless violet shirt that stopped by her midriff showing how her lack of big breasts was compensated by amazing abs. Sharing a similar mindset with her sister, the older girl also wore a pair of dark-violet shorts which pressed just right around those thick thighs.
At first glance, this looked like the kind of girl Joy would be quite happy to talk and spar with, yet I could tell there was more with her. More that I wasn't willing to deal with considering how we had just met. I was the only exception to her common displays of her overprotective nature because others were around and 'vouching' for me. Or better, I was the one being checked closely so there was no way for me to 'try something' with Sarah. Which was not something I planned to do. Especially since... She was the one doing stuff with me.
"Woah! You mean that you just live alone?" The blonde inquired out of the blue, boobs wrapping just tightly around one of my arms as she did that. Nothing I resented, but it wasn't the only issue I had to face. "Isn't that, like, sad?"
Sarah was a blunt person. As blunt as a child would be about these situations... except legally an adult, and knowing way more than a child should in crushing people's spirits through her intense honesty. Still, not the worst part of this visit. No, that honor was reserved to the other individual which was currently matching Sarah's effort in squeezing me in a tight spot. Yet, differently from the blonde, this one didn't have the boob power to achieve the same effectiveness.
White hair that was combed in a 'puffy ponytail', the third Cat Prime I met in a row seemed a bit less hesitant to display flirtatious words. The young woman had dark fur with white patches, her golden eyes glowing with a 'softer' shade compared to Rachael's own topazes. She was wearing a short green shirt that revealed a lean belly, over it there was a white-furred brown jacket. Finally, this girl was actually wearing proper jeans instead of shorts, and yet those fitted just tightly with her petite figure. Mimi Lionheart was the kind of individual I just could imagine Hope befriending her with ease due to how similar their personalities were. Similar, not the same, as I could tell Mimi was a bit more... direct about her interests.
"Sarah, that's not a nice thing to say. Still, I bet it gets lonely if you don't have many people around," The older girl remarked, the silver-haired Prime smiling giddily. "If you want, I can visit you from time to time, Johnny~."
Yep, this was what it sounded like. Someone was open for booty calls.
"Oh? Can I visit too, John? Do you have any games? Or maybe you can visit us sometimes so we can play with a ball by the fields!"
And yes, Sarah just heard Mimi's proposal in the most innocent way a girl her age should be able to perceive it.
Mimi had a twin brother at the farm, and one that looked quite close to Rachael. Compared to the fellow older sibling, this guy, Miles, was actually giving me a sympathetic look which, quite instantly, left me in a particularly awkward spot due to something he said before going back to work.
"Good luck," He said sympathetically, and I knew for a fact it was tied to his sister being... quite persistent in her own approach.
Enough to draw Diana's chiding a few times before Maverick raised the most logical question out of the current circumstance.
"By the way, kiddo, shouldn't you be working right now?"
Mimi's smoothness vanished immediately after that question was delivered. "I... was. But I was taking a tiny break."
"That doesn't sound convincing," The Cow Prime hummed while staring smugly at her. "How about
"W-What about Sarah?"
The blonde smiled cheekily. "I'm already done with my shift. Ranny was about to finish too."
Mimi huffed, but there was no way in that moment for her to not get put back to her shift. After this lengthy walk around the farm, I was granted some mercy in the form of staying near the kitchen as the last preparations for lunch. Diana had gone to retrieve some food with her husband, Mimi had been sent back to resume her shift and Sarah was off to check on someone called Geecku and see if she wanted to come and eat with us.
I was technically alone as I gave permission for Zip to catch up with someone she actually knew in the household: Mora's Nanozell Spirit, Digit. Both were created in the same Dragon Spire, and had grown up together before being split by the 'choice' of new partners. Digit left first, and Zip then ended up with me.
What really surprised me about Digit was the fact she wasn't in her 'original form' as Zippy was quick to explain to me. She had undergone the first 'evolution' a Nanozell Spirit is expected to experience through 'a mature step' made by their new partner. If the one they are partnered with grew mentally through a situation, they would experience a growth spurt. In this case, Digit got as tall as Zippy, but she was also bigger and 'older-looking' compared to her friend.
Plus, she had golden armor wings which, from what I could discern from a very tired Mora, were not part of her evolution, but bought as accessories. There was an actual shop for Nanozell accessories? I wasn't aware of that up to that point and... I think my wallet let out a silent cry when Zip mentioned that her birthday was getting closer. And that she cared for me as the best boss ever.
Yep, coating me in compliments for a big gift. I can tell this much.
Still, despite the current lack of people in the living room, that situation changed when the one busy handling the kitchen came by looking for some ingredients by the cupboard near to where I was sitting. This time around, it was a Bunny Prime and... she looked cute. Pink hair, green eyes, her fur was a mix of dull brown with the details mostly a lighter shade of the color, and the sole exception being the half-circles of darker shade at the edge of her long ears. A curvy figure accentuated by a simple yellow dress that had a red cloth around her waist and a ribbon wrapped near the outward edge of her cleavage's opening. Speaking of the cleavage's opening, not much could be seen due to the chest tuft covering up her bountiful breasts.
All in all, a cutie and even more than just that. Taffy was what I would consider the best wife-material when one wanted to settle down with a stay-at-home wife. She fit just so well with the stereotype of 'mommy-material' due to the kind touch she delivered with her greeting and her speaking in general. Something I caught onto early on, together with the fact she was going to get married soon with Diana's oldest kid. Lucky guy, many would say considering how lovable of a character the pinkette was.
She gave me a slightly nervous look when she noticed I was reading some magazines left by the table, and I did see her linger a bit more about it, holding an uneasy look on her face while doing that.
"Is there something I can help you with?" I asked distractedly and the girl offered a sheepish look.
"I'm... sorry. I wanted to say that I know Sarah can be overwhelming and... Mimi is a peculiar girl, but they are good people and mean well."
"It's alright," I assured with a calm but tired tone. "I mean, they both remind me of people back at home and... I guess Mimi hits weird because of that."
"Hmm?" The Bunny Prime paused for a moment, her green eyes flashing me a questioning look as the pinkette turned to stare at me. "Anything troubling you?"
"...Stuff."
I shouldn't be talking about it with a stranger but... I was in a bit of a mood. And Taffy was already sitting down beside me, clearly intrigued by what kind of topic I was about to bring up.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"If this remains private, I would be willing to, yes," I admitted, and her face morphed in an understanding look. She nodded and I decided to lay it down for her to study. After all, the entire situation was quite complicated and I really needed a female perspective on what to do with Hope and what happened on that crazy night. Taffy listened quietly, looking quite engrossed by the tale I was narrating. Soon, she gave a conclusive nod, still maintaining the same thoughtful look.
"So, you are afraid of... being in a relationship with Hope? That's why you have issues telling her the truth?"
"That's a reductive way to summarize it," I remarked, my voice quite somber. "But sort of yes. I want to be in a relationship with her, but I know bringing this up will cause some issues. She already told me she tried being in a serious relationship a couple of times now, and she had trouble keeping up with what comes with the responsibilities tied to those. And I don't want her to overthink it and sort of... hurt herself trying to push me away because of it."
"Well, that's the point of talking. Communication is key to get through difficulties," The Bunny Prime pointed out confidently. "You will manage it! I can tell you two love each other a lot. You just don't know it yet."
...What?
"But I already know I love her. I just told you that."
"I... Oh right," Taffy admitted shyly. "It's just that... I heard many people trying to bottle that thought and find it difficult to confess that."
"Yeah, that's kind of why I am not doing that. So many do that in fiction, they get burned by that attitude in the long run."
"Then you are on the best track possible. Just tell her the truth and I promise you she will understand and... you two will work things out."
I sighed. "I will give it a try."
And hopefully not get blown apart by the ensuing ramifications. This visit was slowly becoming more and more interesting the more time passed and... I knew that I was going to check this farm again from time to time. But, for now, I had other things to think about.
After all, I had yet to go through lunch and I had the distinct feeling something crazier was going to happen there.
AN
Lunch is about to get intense because someone actually knows John from somewhere else through an indirect description and... this big guy is a bit defensive over his surrogate nieces.
