Chapter 5

The next day before I left the Village, I was given one last gift by the Villigers, I was given a full set of diamond armor and a potion! This set will really come in handy, after I said my goodbyes, I then leave the village. I travel some more distance before I finally arrive at my destination, from atop a tall hill I can see a mountain and in a cave on the side of the mountain is where what I'm looking for is stored. I scope the area out and sure enough Illigers are patrolling around the place, I decide to take the stealthy approach this time.

I take out my Crossbow and start sniping off the Illigers who were wandering too far by themselves, after I complete taking the strays out and making sure there would be no quick back up, I decide to take care of the rest up close and personal. I take out my sword and axe and step into view of the remaining Illigers. They fire some arrows at me which I use my weapons to bat out of the way like a baseball and then I close the distance and start taking them apart, eventually there's only one left and he has an axe of his own and seems like a pretty big guy but I don't let that stop me. I dodge his clumsy swing of the axe and drive my sword through his left leg bringing him to my level before I use my axe to knock his axe out of his hand. I leave him on the floor for now damaged but alive as I say "I'd keep the sword in for now unless you want to bleed to death faster, I still need to ask you something in a bit."

I head into the cave and sure enough there's quite a lot of good's here, gold, jewels and other most likely stolen riches but they aren't what I came for. Finally, I come across a chest and when I open it, I find what I've been searching for this entire time...a Nether Star. It's strange, I can feel a sort of energy emanating from it as I go to pick it up and once it's in my hand it feels like...like I'm holding something very Precious, it's weird to try and describe the aura this thing gives off. I keep the Nether Star safe in my Inventory for now as I head back outside and check on the Illiger, He's still kicking but fading, so I tilt his face to look at me as I say "Anything else I need to know about this place, secret rooms?"

The Illiger just chuckles before coughing as he says "nothing left for you here interloper, our boss has already been contacted and he's going to arrive here personally to deal with you, when he's done with you, you're going to wish you were dead." I decide to end his suffering and finally finish him off, next I think back to what he said. Apparently, the boss of these guys is coming straight to this location and straight to me...in that case let him come, might as well go for the head of the snake while I'm here. I then take a seat on a nearby rock and wait.

10 minutes pass and I'm wondering if that Illiger was just trying to scare me before his death but then I notice someone come into view, he's an Illiger but looks more fit than any of the others I've seen and he wears more expensive looking clothes than the grunts do and his eyes are...red? Once the big guy walks close enough, I say "Oh yeah, you're definitely a boss, did I guess right?" to which he replies "You'd be right, consider yourself lucky since not many chumps like you warrant a personal visit from me, I normally just let my boys deal with any troublemakers." I smirk as I say "what an honor", before he adds "So, you're the one who's been messing with all my operations and destroyed my southern base?"

I nod as he continues "well then let me tell you something boy, you're not the first chump I've dealt with who tried to play hero and you won't be the last, only difference is you've irritated me more than any of the others have." I take that as my cue to cut conversation and get ready for the battle, I take out my sword and axe again as the boss says "My name's Maxwell, remember it boy because it will be the last thing you'll remember when this is over."

I charge at Maxwell and swing my sword right at his neck but then to my surprise he catches the blade with his hand! I notice the blade did do some damage as there's a little blood but he didn't even react to it or seems to care? I swing my axe and he also catches that, same results as last time, he then says "looks like someone needs to be taught the facts of life, allow me to take you back to school." he then kicks me right in my chest and the force actually sends me flying into the side of the hill! Good thing my armor took most of the impact or that would have done worse than it did, I then hear him say "let me guess, our group crossed you in some way and you've decided to hunt us down for retribution, or maybe you're a heroic type who thinks he can go out and save the world by himself." he dashes towards me very quick and I barley dodge his fist as it leaves a hole in the wall next to my head...I knew he'd be strong but I wasn't expecting him to be this strong, he's moving like a speedy Juggernaut!

He continues "or maybe someone close to you got snuffed out because they also messed with us, something about you tells me that I'm at least close on that one, either way it doesn't matter cause what you don't seem to understand is that my business is a necessary evil, with or without me there's going to be crooks and criminals and murderer's, I at least keep them in a more organized crime that isn't pure chaos." I throw my axe at him which he bats to the side as I take out my crossbow and fire off some arrows that hit him right in his center of mass before I get my shield out and block another punch but the force still sends me to my knee's! "Right now, though none of that stuff matters, all I care about is crushing you, because no one messes with me and gets to walk away!" he then pulls the arrows out of his chest like they were nothing more than a bee sting as he kicks me back into the wall again and I think he might have broken something with that one. He goes to stomp on me as I roll out of the way and I slash into his leg before I get up and fire a few more arrows on his back. He turns around and catches another sword swing from me but this time I take out the pickaxe I was hiding in my inventory and jam it right into his eye which makes him drop me to pull it out and while he's distracted, I stab my sword straight through his chest!

I think I've got him but then he grabs me with both hands and pulls me into the air before he slams me down over his knee with enough force that the armor I'm wearing cracks from the blow as my back feels like it's on fire! If I wasn't wearing the armor that definitely would have broken my back and maybe even snapped it! He pulls my sword out of his chest and throws it right at me, I'm able to catch the sword before it hits me as I stand up again while trying to ignore the pain as I ready myself again. He looks at me curiously before commenting "I'll admit you got spirit boy, but spirit can only take you so far in this world, in this world the only thing that matters is power, and believe me you don't got the power to defeat me!" Suddenly his hands begin crackling with energy as I remembered an Important detail I've forgotten about...this guy knows magic. He then laughs before saying "that was a fun warmup, but It's time to end this, now you'll see why I'm feared!" he slams his hands into the ground as a bunch of spikes start coming out of the ground and heading in my direction, I dodge out of the way before they can hit me but just as I do a blue fireball hit's me and blasts me far into the cave hideout!

I decide that trying to fight him like this is not going to work and I need a plan...and then I get one, I move back into the cave and as I do I fire an arrow at the only lantern that's keeping the room lit and once that goes out the place goes dark. I hear Maxwell walk into the room as he shouts "You can hide and run all you want but I'll find you!" I can see him from my hiding spot thanks to the light from the sun by the entrance and I see him summon some Vex's that he gives some commands to before they spread out to look for me. Those Vex's are not normal ones, they look...like they came straight from the nether in a way, I move around staying out of the Vex's lines of sight as I stack some blocks to get me close to the celling. I build a small structure over the room and then I take out what's going to be my ace, the potion I had gotten from the Villigers with my diamond armor before I left...was a potion of night vision. I go to the walkway I had made above the entrance and drop some gravel blocks that I was keeping in my inventory as the gravel covers up the remaining light source. The room falls completely pitch black and I quickly drink my potion as my vision becomes crystal clear, I don't know how but I can see this room as if the area was brightly lit.

I can tell the others can't see in the dark as they seem to be slowing their movements, I hear Maxwell shout "I may not be able to see you but you can't either and once I find you your dead!" Maxwell then uses one hand to create a fireball to give him a little bit of light while is other creates a fireball that's thrown in the direction I was when I drank the potion but I've moved away from that spot by now, looks like he's trying to rely on hearing me but unlucky for him his fireball doesn't give him enough light for it to matter and I'm very good at being sneaky when I want to be. I get out my Crossbow and start shooting his Vex's down one by one and while they take more hits to kill than normal vex's I still manage to take them all out while the whole time Maxwell was throwing fireballs at the impact sounds of the vex's getting hit by my arrows. I take out the last Vex and then procced to unload all my remaining arrows on Maxwell, it seems he's wised up though as now he's aiming closer to where I'd be firing from instead of where the arrows are hitting. The fireballs even allow him brief light sources that gets him glimpses of me so I have to dodge, duck and weave around my pathways I made while still trying to shoot him.

Once my arrows are out and take my sword back out and sneak my way back onto the ground, I carefully walk to where Maxwell is and I do a big slash on his legs and jump out of the way as he quickly turns around and throws a fire ball in that direction. He then slam's his fist to the ground and tries creating more spikes to stab me with but I avoid them by Jumping onto his back as I stab my sword right into his head, he decides to try and ram me into the nearest wall but I jump off of his back and use the momentum to slice his down his neck more before he collides with the wall. "ENOUGH!" He screams as I see him create the biggest fireball he's made so far, he then shouts "Now I see you; you're finished!" as he throws the fireball right at me so I use my only remaining option, I mine straight down and tunnel away as fast as I can and I did so in the nick of time as a loud "BOOM" goes off and I feel some of the heat sting my skin from here but at least I'm still alive.

I mine back up and I can see him painting, looks like for all the damage he can take he's still able to get tired, that spell specifically seemed to have taken a lot out of him, probably why he didn't lead with that. I slash him with all the remaining strength I can muster in his leg and this time I manage to take it off and bring him down to the ground. He then starts muttering "No...no! He said I would be powerful enough to beat you! He said I was stronger!" I then ask through panted breaths "He? Who's he?" to which he responds "doesn't matter, I see now that I was used...I don't know what he got out of this but this all must have been for something he gains." hmm whoever the one he's talking about is could be problematic, but I shelve that problem as a possible future problem and go back to the task at hand, I look in a nearby chest and see a lava bucket that was stored in it, I then use some stone blocks to make a small wall around Maxwell as I say "since it doesn't appear I can kill you the normal way I'll have to melt you...Goodbye Maxwell, for what it's worth you seemed like you could have done better in life.

Maxwell's only comment as he closes his eyes is "Yeah, we all work with the hand we're dealt...maybe if things were different, it would have turned out better." and I fill the pit I made with Lava as he doesn't even scream in pain, it's like pain doesn't even register to him, but I can tell when he's finally gone because I get quite a bit of EXP after a minute...and just like that Maxwell's no more. I... on one hand I'm glad I finally defeated him and without him his gang will fall apart and that makes one less problem but...I still don't quite know how to feel. I recover some of my things and head back outside as I noticed it's night by now, dang our battle went on long enough that the sun finally set, still seems early into the night though.

It's then that my adrenaline fades as the pain starts to set in from the damage it took in that fight, Maxwell hits very hard, going to have to replace my armor later as I can even see cracks in it. I take a deep breath and look up at the moon as I remembered why I came here in the first place, time to try that spell! I make a cobblestone tower up until I think I'm high enough and then I take out the Nether Star holding it in one hand as I hold the magic book in the other. I look at the spell before I then turn my gaze up to the moon, it's a full moon tonight and it actually looks very pretty tonight. I then begin the spell "I summon the one who will complete me, see your reflection stare back and shift." In retrospect it's a very simple spell but hey if it works, nothing happens for a few seconds but then I'm overcome with an incredible pain! Sensation like if I was getting electrocuted surges all throughout my body as I scream out in agony, it doesn't last for long but it feels like it was longer. I drop the Nether Star and book in my pain and then my injuries combined with the pain was too much and I black out.

...I wake up the next day as the sun's rising, it appears while I was out, I was sleeping in my tower I made so I was at least safe from mobs during the night. My head still feels sore but nothing too bad, "Well that was a terrible idea" I say to myself "note to self, never try an unknown spell like that again." I then mine down from the tower as I notice something, "Where's my trident...where is it?!" It wasn't in my inventory; I had somehow lost my trident along with the book and nether star! I didn't even get anything out of this expect some pain and losing items, stupid spell, all this fuss for nothing. I decide that I've had enough for one day and start heading back to the Village so I can heal up more and take stock before I head back home, I'm close to having everything I need for the Nether and am almost ready to start my journey there...I'm almost ready to go home.

...Why do I feel like my problems have just increased though?
