Niles was excited. His package had finally arrived. He proudly carried it into his room and tore open the package. This was better than Christmas for him. He had ordered new listening devices from a specialty store. The latest models. They were so small that they could be hidden away easily and they ran on batteries. The small tapes had a running time of 24 hours and could be recorded over and over again. The whole thing had its price, of course, but how else could he stay informed. On the intercom system alone he could no longer be relied upon. There was none in Miss Fine's room, and despite his efforts, he had learned nothing about the mysterious goings-on in the last few days. Every time Miss Fine disappeared into the office, he literally glued his ear to the intercom, but all they talked about were the children, Miss Fine's relatives, or the day. Moreover, they seemed to be making fun of him. Often he had involuntarily listened to them making jokes at his expense. Niles realized, somehow they always must know when he was eavesdropping on them.

A day later, he put Miss Fine to a test. He told her about his suspicions that their boss was actually seeing a woman. She laughed, finding it completely absurd. He probably didn't even know how to flirt with a woman anymore, let alone have the courage to approach a woman. Niles had noticed, however, she had blushed noticeably and had stammered. He was sure she knew more than she was telling him. Later, he had watched her scurry into the office. However, she told only a trivial story about Gracie and a classmate. Niles of course didn't have a clue that while she was telling the story, Fran was writing Maxwell a note saying she urgently needed to speak to him privately and undisturbed. They arranged to meet that evening at the Plaza.

In their suite that evening, she told him about Niles suspicions. "He's coming closer and closer. He will not rest until he finds out the truth, Max. He's firmly convinced that you're not seeing a backer but a woman." "That doesn't surprise me at all. We both know each other for a long time, he had to see through my behavior sooner or later. But I'm sure he wouldn't even dream that you're the mystery woman. We'll just have to be more careful around the house. Besides, I have a plan." He whispered something in Fran's ear and she giggled. "That's really cruel Max!" she grinned. "Not cruel at all. Pure self-defense!"

He pulled Fran even closer to him. He tickled her neck and kissed the one spot behind her ear. "MHH Maaax," Fran purred, hugging him, playing with his hair. Greedily and passionately their lips met. In a flash they had undressed each other and were naked under the sheets. Maxwell's mouth probed along Fran's body. He ran his tongue and lips along her breasts. He watched as her breathing became more and more heavy. Fran was completely in ecstasy. She was addicted to him. He wandered down her belly. Fran could hardly stand the tension. Then she moaned, he had reached her most intimate place. While he teased her with his tongue, she was overwhelmed by her feelings. Her desire grew with every touch of him. Maxwell enjoyed her fierce reaction. She spurred him on even more until he felt her climax. Her whole body quivered. He took her in his arms and stroked her gently. "Hold me! Oh Maaax!" she breathed. He held her tightly until she calmed down and came back to her senses. They glanced into each other's eyes. Fran kissed him wildly and turned around with him. Now he was lying on his back and she was straddling him. Lovingly she stroked and kissed his upper body as she moved on top of him. She wanted to give him the same feelings of happiness she had just experienced. Now Maxwell was flooded with a wave of feelings. His arousal rose to immeasurable levels. He wanted to feel her and become one with her. Fran was more than ready to grant him his wish. Maxwell was overwhelmed by her movements. Finally, she brought them both to climax together. Afterwards they fell into each other's arms. "I love you Fran! More than I can ever tell you!" "Believe me Max, I've never been as happy as I am with you. I love you so much!"

While Maxwell and Fran showed their love to each other, Niles took action at the Sheffield mansion. This was the opportunity to put his little spies to work. First, he went to the office. He set the machine to record and looked for a good hiding place. He reached for a statue on the desk. It was hollow inside. Perfect. The small device fit effortlessly into the statue. So his little helper was well camouflaged and could record all conversations well. Satisfied, Niles went upstairs. This was only the first prank. He went to Miss Fine's room. It was not locked. He looked around the room a bit, but couldn't see anything suspicious. In her calendar, he saw a lot of M's with hearts curled around them. Miss Fine and this Marc really saw each other a lot. Curious, he searched if he could find a picture of the stranger, but there was none to be found anywhere. Niles now thought of a hiding place. On one of the bedside tables there was a vase without flowers in it. It was ideal. Niles hurried so that none of the children would catch him.

Late at night, Niles was sitting in the living room with the newspaper, a glass of brandy and a cigar, when Fran came home. "Oh Oh Niles, you'd better be careful our boss doesn't see you like this." "I think Miss Fine, you'd better watch yourself!" he pointed to her appearance. Fran hurried to the mirror. Oy, only now did she notice, her blouse had a button ripped off, her lipstick was smudged (she had redone her makeup in the suite but their goodbye kiss in the limo had been intense) and her hair was a mess. "That Mark sure seems like a tempestuous fellow!" "That's none of your business Niles and not a word to Mr. Sheffield. I'm going to bed now, I'm tired." Fran literally floated up the stairs. She was still intoxicated from the past few hours. As she lay in bed, she dug out a photo of Maxwell from a hiding place. Tenderly she stroked the picture and hugged it close to her chest, she fell asleep.

Niles waited until his boss came home, too. He arrived half an hour later, grumbling and with an annoyed expression on his face. That's how Niles knew his boss. Without much ado, he went upstairs to his bedroom. Only there did Maxwell drop his mask and his expression brightened up. Completely content with the world, he fell asleep a little later. Niles went to sleep, in joyful anticipation of soon uncovering the secrets with the help of his little friends.
