Zaofu, 3 months later

It was already middle of September and temperatures were a little colder in Zaofu. The Sun was shining and sometimes... a storm occured but it wasn't that strong as the one in the beggining of summer.

After that first storm Baatar and his father upgraded safety features of backup sources so the blackout wouldn't happen again. Baatar finally got some credit and got more space to create his own projects. But not took a lot of time so he wasn't able to see Kuvira as much as he would like. But the less they saw each other... the more they enjoyed their time together.

Baatar and Kuvira were meeting everytime they could. They worked on new projects, went hiking and sometimes they just sat together in gardens and chatted all hours.

They still didn't tell anyone that they are together and didn't really express their feelings in public. It was something private and they wanted to keep it for themselves.

Baatar loved how smart, brave and courageous Kuvira was. She was little mysterious as well and Baatar really liked it. She was also good listener... she understood him and always knew what to say.

And the next thing was that Kuvira was really beautiful... Physical appearence wasn't important for Baatar but he loved her smile, her eyes, her hair... He loved how it felt when their lips touched and when he could embrace her. Baatar also adored birthmark under her eye. He found it really cute.

Their relationship was amazing. They enjoyed spending time together and never got bored. Baatar and Kuvira were kissing from time to time but that was all. They didn't want to rush anything...

However today was a special day. It was Kuvira's birthday and Baatar planned a trip for them. He spend hours by making a present for her and hoped that she will like it…

"I hope she will like it." he said for himself while finishing birthday present in his laboratory. He packed a bag with a blanket and some food. He was wearing black t-shirt without sleeves and dark green trousers. It was similar to what Wei and Wing usually wear. Then he left the Beifongs's residence and headed to the city center.

Zaofu, Airship station, 2 hours earlier

Kuvira had a morning shift today. She was guarding airship station with Dao who was a Zaofu guard for four years now. Kuvira doesn't like him much because he's trying to pick her up all the time.

Dao is a good metalbender but that's all... he's bossy, self-centered and he thinks he's something more than other people. Kuvira hates this kind of personality and Dao with his pick up lines drives her crazy.

Kuvira's heart belonged only to one person...to her smart boy with glasses. Baatar... she smiles for herself everytime she's thinking about him. He's different than other guys. He's wise, inteligent and mysterious at the same time. Everytime she's with him she learns something interesting. He's like encyclopedia.

Kuvira had to admit that he was really handsome as well. He was taller than most other people she knew and was really muscular. She loved the way how his strong arms wrapped around her and how he always lift her up when they were hugging. His arms felt like home... and everytime they kissed... she felt that wave of electricity again.

"Hey Kuvira!" Dao called on her while she was lost in her thoughts. They were at airship station and their watch will last one more hour.

She looked at Dao with a grumpy face and asked: "What do you want?"

He walked closer to her. "What are you doing after work? he asked with that stupid smile on his face.

"First of all... It's none of your business. And second thing is that I have something planned already." Kuvira replied seriously. Dao looked that he's not satisfied with that answer.

"C'mon Kuvira. We could hang out together. I am sure that your plan for today is boring... you should spend some time with me instead." he said with irony in his voice. Kuvira wanted to punch him in the face. He was so bigheaded.

"I said no." she said angrily. "I think Lia will be more interested in hanging out with you." then Kuvira walked away from him. She was looking forward to see Baatar but this conversation with Dao just ruined her morning.

"Why you have to be so serious all the time." Dao complained. Kuvira rolled her eyes and couldn't wait till the shift will end.

After 45 minutes other guards arrived and Kuvira could finally go home to prepare for their trip. She rushed to Guard's residence as fast as she could but the city center was really crowded today so it took more time.

When she finally got home she quickly changed her clothes. Kuvira was wearing light green top and dark green trousers. It was similar to her training clothes but it was more elegant. She had her hair in a braid and she used a little bit of parfume. She was ready.

Kuvira grabbed a bag with bottles of water and left her apartment. She rushed downstairs and then headed right to the city center where she should meet Baatar.

Baatar was already waiting for her close to the Zaofu Tower. There was a wide staircase infront of the building and Baatar was sitting there.

He looked up to the sky and then took off his glasses. It was dirty. He tried to clean it with a fabric of his t-shirt.

Baatar was spitting image of his father... they had same face, same name, same profession and unfortunately glasses as well. Baatar was used to wearing glasses but he was sad that his shortsightedness was getting worse and worse. He hoped that someday there will be a cure for it.

When he put his glasses back on he saw Kuvira walking closer to him. Baatar smiled and wave at her. She did the same.

"Hi Baatar." she smiled at him and saw that he was wearing black t-shirt without sleeves. She had to admit that he looked really good at black color and she liked the view on his muscles as well..."Concentrate Kuvira. You can't think about these things all the time."she thought for herself.

"Hi Kuvira." Baatar replied and stood up. He took his backpack and asked: "So ... can we go?" Kuvira nodded and smiled. They left the city center and headed directly to the Zaofu mountains.

Baatar planned a trip to the mountain lake near to Zaofu. It was the lake from Opal's fairytale book where the Lake Fairy lives. It is really beautiful place and there's also nice view on Zaofu Valley.

When they were far from Zaofu they finally kissed. Kuvira wrapped her arms around Baatar's neck and he put his arms around her waist. They hugged and the kiss was really passionete...

When the kiss ended they looked directly to each other's eyes while smiling. They always expressed their feelings only when they were alone. It was something about their personalities which lead them to be so mysterious about their relationship. They didn't even hold hands while being in public. It was their secret. It was only for them...

"So ... where are we going?" Kuvira asked curiously.

Baatar smiled and said: "It's a secret" he was now mysterious. "But don't worry. It's not so far from here." He took her hand and they continued.

The Zaofu mountains were beautiful. It was full of valleys and waterfalls. There grew many species of herbs everywhere and sometimes... eagledeers could be seen. It was Baatar's favourite place. He loved fresh air and the view. When he was younger... his grandma Toph used to go there with him. She wasn't a fan of crowds or other people in general... she prefered to be alone.

It was something only Baatar had because when Huan was old enough to go with them... Toph already moved to the swamp so there were no other trips… Baatar was lost in his thoughts and suddenly he had a flashback...

The mountain lake, Zaofu mountains, 13 years ago

Six years old Baatar was sitting on the grass close to the lake shore. Water was crystal clear and birds were singing. It was late summer so it was a bit cold but it didn't mind him.

His grandma was sitting close to him but she didn't say a word in a long time. She liked Baatar because he wasn't much of a talker as well as her. They just sat in quiet and listened to nature.

But then Baatar started talking: "Grandma Toph?" he sat closer to her. She turned at him and said: "What?"

Little Baatar sighed and asked with hope in his voice: "Will I be an earthbender someday? I would love to be a bender like you and mum."

Toph was surprised by that question. She was sad at the same time because she couldn't gave Baatar the answer he was hoping for. He was a nonbender... She knew it for a long time. She could feel it.

"Huan moved with a stone yesterday and he's almost two years younger than me." Baatar continued with sad face.

Toph didn't know what to say... "Listen kid...being a nonbender isn't a bad thing. World needs benders as well as it needs nonbenders. It's balance." she said.

Baatar looked away and said: "So I will never be able to do things like you and mum." he was now dissapointed and angry. Baatar stood up and ran closer to the lake. He grabbed a little white stone and threw it to the lake. Then he tried to move a bigger stone by doing earthbending moves but nothing happened... He felt tears on his face and fell on the ground.

Toph could feel that his heartbeat was faster and his breathing as well. It broke her heart that her grandson was so sad. She rushed closer to him and said: "Are you alright?" she worried. He was still crying. "Most likely you are not a bender..." she put her hand on his shoulder. "but listen...Sokka, Suki, Mai, Ty Lee... my friends who are nonbenders. They are really brave and strong. They are all nonbenders as well... I want you to know that bending is not everything." she was now sitting next to him. "Even your father... he's a nonbender but there's no smarter person in Zaofu." It was really difficult for Toph to say all these things because she wasn't good at expressing feelings and empathy.

Baatar looked at his grandma and she smiled at him. It was really rare to see her smile. But he was still sad and threw another stone to the lake.

"You are the smartest little boy I know. You can count difficult equations, you know all the animals and flowers and you learned how to read when you were only four years old." she was really proud of her grandson. "Look at me... I am almost as old as these mountains and I still can't read." she laughed.

Baatar looked at Toph and laughed. "But that's only because you are blind." Toph pretended to be really offended by what he just said.

"What did you say young man? You are in a big trouble." Baatar laughed and wanted to run away but Toph catched him and started to tickle him. They were both laughing and Baatar realized that being a nonbender isn't that bad.

Then his flashback ended.

The Zaofu mountains, present day

Kuvira and Baatar were almost there. The hill was very steep so it was difficult to walk and Kuvira had to remove big stones from the way which were there because of lanslide. But after an hour they finally reached the lake. It was breathtaking...

"Wow... this place is amazing." Kuvira said with excitement. The lake wasn't that big but water was like a mirror and hills around were like ramparts. Kuvira loved that place.

Baatar was happy that Kuvira liked the lake. She ran closer to the shore and saw that there were white shining stones everywhere. She was like the Lake Fairy from that fairytale... Baatar thought for himself. When Kuvira wasn't looking at him... Baatar quickly picked a few flowers and hide them behind his back.

"I am happy that you like it here." Baatar smiled and Kuvira ran back to him. He loved seeing her happy... it was all he needed.

"It's perfect." Kuvira said and wrapped her arms around his neck. Then she kissed him softly. Baatar put one of his arms around her waist and when they fell apart after a while... Baatar gave her flowers.

"For you." Baatar said with smile. "Happy birthday Kuvira."

Kuvira was impressed. She didn't know that Baatar remembered her birthday and nobody ever gave her flowers before... She smiled and took the flowers. "Thank you so much" she said and kissed him passionately. Being that close always felt amazing...

After few minutes Baatar finally said: "I have something more for you." he took a little hair slide from his pocket and gave it to Kuvira. It was made of shining metal so Kuvira could bend it and it had flower details on it. It was really challanging to made it when you are not a metalbender.

"That's so beautiful...'' she had tears of joy on her face. ''Thank you." Kuvira was amazed. It had so much details. Kuvira knew Baatar had to spend hours by creating this...she had to do something as great for his birthday as well.

"It's made of metal so you can bend it as you like." Baatar said and Kuvira smiled on him. She put that hair slide on the end of her braid and then smelled to the flowers she got before.

Baatar took blanket out of his bag and put it closer to the shore of the lake. Then put all the food there...sandwiches, fruit and a little chocolate cake as well. Kuvira was surprised and grateful. She loved what Baatar prepared for her birthday. "This is so ..." Kuvira had tears of joy on her face and she didn't know what to say. Nobody ever did something like this for her. Her parents left her when she was just a small child and now it felt like finally having family of her own. Baatar was her family now. "This means a lot for me. Thank you." she said and embraced Baatar tightly. She was happy that somebody cares about her.

Kuvira being happy was all Baatar needed. Just to see her smile. Kuvira was always so serious infront of other people but when she was with him... she was relaxed. Baatar felt the same with her. He forgot all his problems and could finally Relax.

"I am glad you like it." Baatar replied and kiss her on forhead. Then they started to eat. It was really nice day and all the food tasted delicious. Kuvira looked at him and smiled. Baatar didn't know she was looking at him so Kuvira could observe him for a long time. His face, his hair, his muscles… just enjoyed each other's company with many passionate kisses…

PLEASE GOOGLE LAKE DRACHENSEE

So this is the end of part one. I hope you liked it and that you googled lake Drachensee. It is really beautiful place. The next thing is that Baatar and Kuvira are still teenagers so their personalities really differ from what we see in the series. Something what will change their personalities is going to happen soon.

Second part of this chapter will be more spicy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :D
