Author's note: If you want to have better idea about how Kuvira's apartment and Guard's Residence looks like...go watch Legend of Korra season 3 episode 8. When team avatar is trying to find some cases in Hong Li's apartment (young guard who was fakely accused by Aiwei to be an ally of the Red Lotus). Kuvira's apartment is really similar but the rooms are organised differently.
And Zaofu City Hall looks like the one in Republic City but smaller.

Zaofu, the next day
Today was the day… Cold winter was everywhere in Zaofu and sky was cloudy like if it was about to snow again...
Kuvira had barely some sleep. She spend all night by just looking at the ceiling in her bedroom and by rolling in bed to find comfortable position to sleep. But it didn't work.
It was only 4 a.m. but Kuvira gave up on sleeping for today. She rolled in bed for the last time and looked out of the window... It was really dark outside and strong wind was rumbling loudly. The domes were already opened which was unussual for winter months.
Kuvira sat up and could feel her own fast heartbeat... She put her hand on the place where her heart was and she could literaly feel it jumping...
Today was the exam day and Kuvira was really nervous. She knew that she can't show her insecurity in front of other candidates and captain Rey…. "Future leader of Zaofu guards can't show any weakness..." she said quietly for herself. But was glad that she still had some time to get herself together before going to the City Hall where the exam will take place.
Kuvira climbed to the edge of the bed and sat there for a while. It was quiet cold in her apartment so she took on her light green bathrobe to have one more warm layer. Kuvira then stood up and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast and some tea... She had three more hours to get ready for the test...
While the water was boiling Kuvira sat down to the kitchen table and saw the silver pen laying there... It was from Baatar... Yesterday he gave Kuvira one of his pens as a lucky charm for her today's exam. She smiled and took it to her hand. After closer look she saw that it has his initials on it. BBJ... Baatar Beifong Junior... She wondered how many engineering designs he drew with it... Kuvira felt warm feeling inside and it calmed her down a little...
She put the pen back on the table and then finished the preparation of the tea... Kuvira always liked green tea. It was her favourite and she drank it every morning...
After having a breakfast Kuvira decided to polish her guard armor so it would be shining like a glass. She needed to look professional and representative...
The time was flying and Kuvira started to get ready. She braided her hair and put the hairslide from Baatar around the end of the braid. She put on her uniform and then placed her armor on her chest with help of her metalbending... She checked herself in the mirror and took a deep breath... "It's time." she said for herself and put on the helmet.
Kuvira put the pen from Baatar to her pocket and left her apartment... When she got out on the street the wind wasn't that strong but it was still cloudy. It was such an important day and the weather didn't seemed to help her make it easier... Kuvira knew that her destiny depends on today...
She slowly walked to the City Center and after few minutes she was standing in front of the Zaofu City Hall... Kuvira looked up to the statue of Toph Beifong... the first metalbender ever... she took a deep breath and entered the City Hall... She was ready...
Beifongs's Residence, at the same time
"Baatar, pack a bag. We need to go to Yu Dao today..." Baatar Senior said during Beifongs family breakfast and Baatar was confused. All his siblings looked at their father in surprise.
"Today? But why?" he said and didn't really liked the idea of leaving in the day of Kuvira's exam...
Suyin wasn't present during the breakfast because her and Aiwei needed to be in the City Hall during guards exam.
"We have to deliver last bridge designs and check how the assembling is going. There are some comlications and they need to consult it." his father said and continued in drinking his coffee. Baatar was still caught by surprise... He wanted to be there for Kuvira now...
"How long we will be there?" Baatar asked without showing his inner thoughts.
"Probably a week..." Baatar Senior said calmly and stood up. "We are leaving in 8 a.m..." he added and walked out of the dining room... Baatar was still left in shock…
A week... It was so long...
Baatar really wanted to stay in Zaofu but knew that his father would be suspicious and he couldn't reveal their relationship now...Baatar was thinking about Kuvira and totally forgot his breakfast... he hoped she will be doing good today…
Hopefully he would find a way how to contact her from Yu Dao somehow... But there was no other possibility…he had to leave...
After leaving Beifongs's residence Baatar and his father were going to the airship station by a city train. Baatar was looking out of the window on the cloudy sky and couldn't stop thinking about his beloved Kuvira...
When they were passing by the Zaofu City Hall... he knew Kuvira was inside taking her test. He closed his eyes. "You can do it Kuvira. I believe in you..." he tried to send her his message in hope Kuvira would knew he was thinking about her...
The City Center was getting smaller and smaller as they were almost on the airship station… Baatar was holding his bag in one hand and his technical designs in second hand. The elevator lifted him and his father on the airship platform and Baatar looked on the City Center for the last time... He didn't wanted to leave but he had to...
When boarding…there were two guards on the platform. Lia and Hong Li. When Baatar was passing by them... their conversation caught his attention...
"Who do you think the new captain will be?" Hong Li asked Lia curiously. He was a guard for only a few weeks and he was still learning...
"I have no idea..." Lia answered. "They are all good so it is hard to say..."she added and then they unhooked the ropes which were holding the airship... Baatar thought about her words and slowly continued in his way…
The airship took off and Baatar was still looking at Zaofu… then he looked at his reflection in the window and turned away…
A week gone... It was so long...
The City Hall, Zaofu
The exam took place in the council room and all four candidates had their own separated tables. There were Suyin, Aiwei and two other councils and they controled all of them. Kuvira was sitting by the window and looked out of it for a moment... The train was passing by at that time and the sky was cloudier than in the morning...
It was last 2 minutes before the end of the test and Kuvira needed to answer one last question but couldn't think of any possible choice... Baatar warned her that there could be tricky questions...
"Which metal has the highest thermal conductivity?" Kuvira was nervous and felt her heart jumping inside of her. She didn't know the answer... what if she didn't get enough points and her dream about becoming a captain will be ruined...
She was holding the pen from Baatar and hoped that some of his genius would got into her. "Focus Kuvira!" she thought strictly for herself and held the pen thightly...
She looked closly on that silver pen... BBJ...silver... "Silver!" Kuvira realized. "It was silver." The memory of Baatar talking about it during repairing backup power sources months ago filled up her mind... She smiled and quickly wrote the answer exactly before the bell rang and the exam was over.
Kuvira gave her test to Aiwei and all four guards stood up. Theo was a bit nervous because his wife didn't feel well this morning and their second child could arrive in every hour... Kai had neutral face expression so Kuvira couldn't tell how he was doing during the test... And Dao... he had bossy face as always...
Aiwei's voice disturbed Kuvira from her deep thoughts and it caught her attention. "So the test is over. I wish you all good luck and we will share the results on Friday." he said in a calm voice and gave the exam papers to one councilman.
Friday? Kuvira thought for herself... They had to wait three days to know the results... "Why do we have to wait that long?" Dao asked unpatiently and Suyin answered: "The results will be announced on a weekly guards meeting. And I am sure you know this meeting is always on Friday... " her tone of voice was now strict.
Dao frowned and stayed quiet till the end. Kuvira had to admit she didn't like the idea of waiting that long as well... but she respected it.
"Now you can go." Aiwei said and Suyin nodded.
Theo was the first one to leave because he rushed to the city hospital to be with his wife...
Dao and Kai left immediately after and Kuvira was on her way out as well. She wanted to visit Baatar and tell him how it went...
"So... how do you feel Kuvira?" Suyin asked before Kuvira could leave the room. She stopped on the place and looked at older woman.
"I have mixed feelings... Hopefully I've got at least some points..." Kuvira replied and Suyin gave her a smile.
"Well... we will see on Friday." Suyin answered and Aiwei now joined them. Kuvira didn't want to disturb them and said: "Now if you will excuse me... I would like to visit Baatar and tell him how it went..." Kuvira was really careful to not say something what Aiwei could be suspicious about...
Kuvira wanted to leave but Suyin stopped her... "I am afraid it won't be possible..." Suyin said and Kuvira gave her a confused look. "Junior and my husband had to unexpectably leave to Yu Dao today due to the bridge construction complications... They will be back next Wednesday..." when Kuvira heard that... the wave of sadness ran trough her. She wanted to talk to Baatar and share her feelings with him... Now she will have to wait a week to see him again.
"That's a shame..." Kuvira said sadly but didn't want her dissapointment to look too obvious. Aiwei would know her every emotion. "I hoped to share my thoughts and feelings with him..." Kuvira added and hoped Aiwei didn't notice anything... She didn't have to say which feelings concretely she had on her mind...
"Now... go continue in work guard." Aiwei ordered her and Kuvira nodded. She took on her helmet and left the City Hall... She looked up to the sky and hoped that Baatar's airship will fly safely in this weather...
When she headed back to the Guard's Residence... all thoughts about her exam came to her mind... "This will be really long week..." she said for herself...
Yu Dao, Three days later
It was pretty warm day in Yu Dao and Baatar was studying plans of the bridge in provosional architect's tent. He spend all morning by doing calculations and had it all done before the noon...
The architect's tent was made of metal and there were just tables and boards with technical designs everywhere... Since Yu Dao was located in a lower altitude than Zaofu... the weather was much nicer there.
The problem which occured during construction was repaired and builders could continue in their work... however Baatar and his father were still in Yu Dao as supervisors...
Baatar was lost in his thoughts when his father came to the tent... "How are these calculations going, Junior?" Baatar Senior asked and sat next to his son.
"I've finished all of them two hours ago..." Baatar said in a neutral voice and handed the papers to his father... He got a closer look at it and praised his son... "Good job Junior."
His father stood up and was walking to his own working table when he said: "Your mom called today. She told me to say hello to you." His father said in a calm voice and that words caught Baatar's attention.
"Any news from Zaofu?" Baatar asked curiosly in hope he would hear something about Kuvira...
"Not really..." his father answered and started to analyze his architectual reports. "but wait... they will actually announce a new captain of guards today." he added and Baatar's heart jumped in his chest...
"Did mom said who the new captain will be?" Baatar asked and his heartbeat was fast.
"She doesn't know yet." his father said and Baatar nodded. He was left with his thoughts and sat in quiet by his working table... But then...an idea occured in his mind...
"Dad?" Baatar said and looked at his father. "I need to ask you something..."
Zaofu, the same time
Today was a long day for Kuvira and it felt like guards meeting will be in a hundred years... despite that fact it was only few hours apart...
Kuvira had afternoon watch today... She was supposed to have day off but Theo's son Tian was born yesterday and he asked her to change a shift with him so he could be there for his family. Kuvira agreed and guarded the City Center with Lia...
It was actually nice weather today so Kuvira was glad she got out and didn't have to just sit nervously in her apartment till the guards meeting starts. The more she worked... the less she was thinking about it... She wished Baatar was here today...
"So... are you nervous?" Lia asked Kuvira when they were passing by the Zaofu Square and had mischievous smile on her face.
Kuvira put on her cold face expression and didn't want to admit her insecurity... "No. I will accept the results whatewer they are..." she said in a neutral voice but Lia could say she was nervous... She was just hiding it better than other people...
"We will see..." Lia said and they continued in walking... By the time they checked whole City Center Kuvira knew it was only half an hour till the guards meeting will start... It would be there... The moment she was waiting for...
Today's meeting took place in the City Hall instead of Guard's Residence as always... and all other guards who didn't have a watch at that time had to be present as well...
Lia and Kuvira started walking back to the City Hall and it was getting colder again. Kuvira's head was full of thoughts and she felt that fear is growing inside of her... but she couldn't let anybody to know... She had to look powerful and professional…
When they arrive to the council room... most of the guards were already there... Lia sat on the chair in the back row next to Hong Li and they both wished Kuvira good luck...
She thanked them and headed straight to the front row where four chairs were waiting for all candidates... Theo and Kai were already here and both looked nervously. Kuvira sat down next to Theo and asked how his children were doing. He told them about how Mia loves her younger brother and Kai made a few jokes about dirty diapers which caused all three of them laughing.
Shortly before the start of the meeting... Dao joined them with look of victory on his face. "Maybe he's a good fighter but his ego is much bigger than his brain." Kai whispered and Kuvira with Theo laughed quietly. Dao gave them a strict look and wanted to say something... but captain Rey started talking earlier. Him, Aiwei and Suyin were standing on the small stage.
"Good evening guards." captain Rey said in authoritative voice and all Metal Clan soldiers stood up to greet him... "As you all know... I will retire at the end of February after 20 years of being a captain..." Kuvira was standing straight and paid attention to every word. "and that's why today's meeting is different from the usual ones..." he added and Suyin gave him a folder with some documents.
"Today... we will announce who will replace captain Rey as a new captain after years of loyal service to Zaofu and it's citizens..." Suyin said calmy and ordered other guards to sit down. Kuvira's heart was beating so fast that she couldn't believe it was still inside of her chest.
All four candidates were still standing and captain Rey opened the folder..."All of you did very well on the test but there was only one person who got all possible points..."he said and looked at all four of them."the fourth place belongs to... Kai... with amazing 44 points." Kuvira felt relief and Kai bowed in reaction. He sat down and captain continued: "in the third place... we have Theo with 47 points." Theo bowed as well and sat down. Kuvira's hands were shaking but she tried to hide it. She was so close to her dream... Dao gave her a bossy look and was ready to be announced as a new captain...
"The second candidate has 49 points…It is said that winner always takes gold... but not this time... it was the silver which decided about our new captain..." Captain Rey walked closer to them and said: "Kuvira... congratulation. You've got all 50 points..." captain Rey smiled and Dao's jaw dropped... Kuvira couldn't believe it. It was here... Her dream just came true. It was that one question about metal thermal conductivity which made a captain from her… "Let me introduce you the new captain of the Metal Clan soldiers... Kuvira!" captain said loudly and all guards in the council room started clapping with excitement. Kuvira was speechless. Captain Rey handshaked with her and Suyin with Aiwei as well...
Kuvira was over the moon...She did it... She was a captain. The wave of happiness ran through her body and she smiled widely... She felt powerful...
All guards came to congratulate her and Kuvira couldn't wait to start her new career as the highest ranked soldier... She wished Baatar was with her now...
Zaofu, 2 hours later
Kuvira was later going back to Guard's Residence and she was so happy and full of joy that she will officialy became a captain. It was so amazing and she still couldn't believe it...
After the announcment…Theo and Kai accepted it really well. They were both really happy for Kuvira and promised to help her if she would ever need some help. And Theo was actually happy that he didn't became a captain. It would be too much work for him now that his family expanded.
Dao on the other hand... he took it badly. He was jealous of Kuvira and wanted to became a captain himself. When he angrily left the City Hall... Kuvira knew he will never accept her as an authority. According to him she stole his career and accused her of being "Beifongs' favourite" but Kuvira ignored that. She worked really hard to became a captain and she had clear conscience...
When Kuvira got to the Guard's Residence the sun already set and it was dark. It was getting colder again and Kuvira rushed to her apartment... She was so sad that Baatar is in Yu Dao and that she won't be able to share news with him immediately...he would come back in four days...
Kuvira went upstairs and took of her guard helmet. When she reached the highest floor the light in the corridor couldn't be turned on. The lightbulb probably broke she thought. Kuvira continued in walking in the dark and went to her apartment but when she got there... the door was slightly open...
Kuvira was confused... she was sure she locked the door when she was leaving. She took her helmet back on and slowly opened the door. It was quiet inside so she continued in.
"Is anybody here?" Kuvira called and when she didn't hear anything she turned the lights on. But there was something what catched her eye immediately... the kitchen table was covered with all kinds of meals... Kuvira went closer and was still confused...
"I hope you are hungry, captain." she heard the voice which could belong to one person only... Baatar. Kuvira turned around and saw smiling Baatar standing in the doorway. He was wearing his usual clothes but he still had his dark green winter coat on. Her eyes were shining and big smile appeared on her face. Kuvira put her helmet on the table and rushed closer to him.
"Baatar!" Kuvira called happily and they shared a tigh loving embrace followed by long sweet kiss. Kuvira was never good in showing emotions but it was different with Baatar…he always made her heart jump. "What are you doing here? I thought you had to be in Yu Dao all week." Kuvira asked and caressed his cheek gently.
Baatar took her hand from his cheek and gently kissed it. "I couldn't miss your big day. Congratulation Kuvira." he said with smile and gave her a bouquet of light pink roses which he was hiding behind his back.
Kuvira was impressed. She gasped and smiled at Baatar. "Thank you so much." she said and took the roses from him. "I never could have done it without your help... " Kuvira added and put a long sensual kiss on Baatar's lips...She knew that if it weren't for him…Dao would probably be a captain now…and her dream would be destroyed….
"I prepared a little celebration for you." Baatar said between kisses and put a strand of Kuvira's hair behind her ear. Kuvira gave him warm smile in return. She took his hand to hers and they headed back to the kitchen.
The table was full of delicious food and little chocolate cake as well. "That looks so beautiful." Kuvira said happily. "Noone never did something like this for me..."she added in a not so happy voice. The sadness filled her mind... Kuvira's real parents never prepared any celebration for her...
Baatar saw that Kuvira is sad and hugged her around her waist from behind. He rested his head on Kuvira's shoulder and gently kissed her cheek. "Don't be sad. This is a good day." Baatar said in comforting voice. "New captain of Zaofu guards deserves only the finest." he said in a cheering voice.
Kuvira smiled and couldn't wait to taste all of it. But then she realized she's still wearing her guard uniform. This occasion required something more... Kuvira turned at Baatar and said: "Give me 10 minutes and I'll be back." Baatar nodded and watched Kuvira disappear in the bedroom.
Kuvira closed the door behind herself and quickly took of her armor and uniform. The rest of her clothes laid on the floor few seconds later. She wanted to look perfect for her celebration dinner with her beloved Baatar...
Kuvira felt cold tiles of the bathroom floor when she went to have a quick shower. After all day in uniform it felt really refreshing... When Kuvira walked out of the shower she wrapped a towel around herself and braided her hair. Then she rushed back to the bedroom...
She decided to wear her long dark green dress with metal belt and large sleeves. It was typical Zaofu style but more elegant... Kuvira put large metal necklace around her neck and checked herself in the mirror... She was satisfied with the result and as a final touch she used her lotus perfume...
Baatar in the mean time put Kuvira's roses to the vase on the table and lighted a candle there. After a while he heard the bedroom door open and looked in the direction... He felt the wave of electricity inside of him when he saw how stunning Kuvira was... "Wow... you look like a dream..." he said and couldn't take his eyes from her. She blushed in reaction...
"Thank you" Kuvira said and smiled at him. She was always bad at accepting compliments but hearing them from Baatar always woke up warm feeling inside of her...
Kuvira walked closer to the table and sat down. Baatar took a bottle of wine and gave himself and Kuvira a glass... The lights were off and the only source of light was the candle in the center of the table. It was really romantic...
"Cheers! To the new captain." Baatar said and smiled at Kuvira. They clinked with their glasses and tasted the wine. It was nicely sweet. The best wine from the Fire Nation.
Kuvira gave Baatar a soft kiss and then they started eating. The food was really delicious and Baatar and Kuvira had really nice time together... they talked about everything and were laughing most of the time. They really enjoyed being together again... Baatar always loved Kuvira's unique tone of voice. It was so different from others... It was unique as Kuvira herself...
When they finished with eating... Baatar gently carresed Kuvira's hands which rested on the table and then took it to his. Her eyes were so beautiful in the candlelight... Baatar thought for himself…
"How did you manage to get there with all that food without being noticed?" Kuvira asked curiously and Baatar laughed.
"Well... maybe I forgot to return keys from the engine room and back entrance when I was repairing electricity sources last time..." Baatar said and Kuvira laughed.
"You are cunning." she said and Baatar gave her a mischievous smile.
"I hope you won't arrest me for stealing that keys, captain Kuvira." Baatar said in a serious tone. Kuvira laughed and shaked her head. She felt so good. Today's evening was so nice and relaxed... Baatar felt the same... this was the first time in seven weeks since they could really enjoy each other and don't think about exam or Yu Dao bridge.
"I love you Baatar..." Kuvira said lovingly. "and thank you for this celebration. It means a lot for me..." Kuvira added and gave him a kiss.
"I love you, too..." Baatar replied and looked into Kuvira's beautiful eyes... "I really enjoyed this evening..." he added.
Kuvira gave him a mischievous smile and whispered: "This evening is not ending yet..." Baatar's breathing got faster in reaction to Kuvira's words...
Baatar watched Kuvira slowly stood up and then she continued to the bedroom while still keeping an eye contact with him. She turned around in the doorway and dissapered in the bedroom where the lights were still off... He knew what was happening... no more words were needed...
Baatar quickly stood up and took the candle with him. When he entered the bedroom he put the candle on the night table next to the bed... The warm candlelight filled the room with gold glow...
Kuvira was standing in front of the window and was looking at closed domes... she then heard Baatar coming closer to her... It's been so long since they were together this way and Kuvira couldn't wait to feel like one body and one soul with Baatar again...
Baatar wrapped his arms around her waist and put a soft kiss on her neck... The wave of electricity ran through Kuvira's body and her breathing got faster how Baatar's kisses moved down to her shoulder...
She took of her necklace with her metalbending and it landed on the night table. Baatar's hands were working on Kuvira's belt and she started to gently rub her butt against his lap which caused them both moaning...
"You drive me crazy..." Baatar whispered to Kuvira's ear and she leaned her head back to kiss him passionately... Their tongues were dancing together...
After a while Kuvira's belt fell on the floor and she turned at Baatar... They were now standing face to face... He was still wearing his glasses and Kuvira carefuly took it off and moved it on the table with her metalbending.
Baatar put his hands on Kuvira's hips and caressed it gently. She placed her hands to Baatar's hair and their kisses were getting more and more sensual... Kuvira took off Baatar's necklace and belt with her metalbending and it fell on the floor...
Her hands now traveled on warm skin of his back and she was then caressing his muscular abs under his t-shirt. Baatar was holding her butt really strongly in reaction... Kuvira stood up on her tip toes so she could took off his dark green t-shirt and then threw it on the floor... Kuvira kissed Baatar's neck and shoulder and he gasped in reaction...
Baatar took Kuvira's hair and unbraided it. Her beautiful dark hair looked like gold in the candlelight... He kissed Kuvira's lips passionately and his fingers started to work on dress buttons on her back... Kuvira embraced Baatar and could hear his fast heartbeat when she rested her head on his chest...
Kuvira moaned when Baatar's kisses moved to her neckline and he started pulling her dress down over her shoulders... It fell on the floor and Baatar's pupils got even wider... Kuvira wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress...
"You didn't have any underwear on during our dinner..." Baatar whispered mischievously and Kuvira's cheeks were now hot. She wrapped her arms around Baatar's neck and her breasts were touching his chest... She kissed him passionately and whispered: "Because it would be in our way later..."
Baatar looked into her eyes and no words were needed... they both wanted it... They shared a loving kiss and Baatar's hands traveled Kuvira's naked lower back... She wrapped her legs around Baatar's waist and he carried her to the bed...
Kuvira and Baatar felt cold bedsheets on their warm skin as they climbed to the center of the bed together... Kuvira's body looked magical in the candlelight...Baatar thought for himself. He was on the top of her and she leaned her head back to the pillow when Baatar started to kiss and caress her breasts... Loud moans escaped from her and Kuvira's hands were caressing Baatar's hair as his lips moved down to her belly...
They felt amazing... they both missed being so close together and tonight... they didn't have to hide their love...
Baatar kissed Kuvira's birthmark on her lower belly and his hands were still massaging her breast... Kuvira felt waves of electricity running from every spot where Baatar put his kisses...
Kuvira pull Baatar to a kiss and started to caress the bulge in his trousers with her second hand... Baatar moaned in reaction and kissed Kuvira hard... The kiss ended when they both needed air...
"I want you so bad..." Baatar whispered and kissed her under ear... Kuvira smiled and slowly spread her legs in reaction... Her hands traveled down his back to his hips and she started to pull his trousers down...
Baatar looked into Kuvira's eyes and sat up on his heels. He took off his trousers and underwear and threw it on the floor. Then he caressed Kuvira's calves gently. Then he put a soft kiss on her knee and his kisses slowly moved up on her body to her nipples and Kuvira's moans became even louder...
"You are so beautiful..." Baatar whispered and Kuvira wrapped her legs around his waist. They looked into each others eyes and smiled at each other. No words were needed. That look was worth of thousand words... It was love in their eyes...
"Ah Baatar... " Kuvira gasped when his big member got inside of her... It's been so long since they were together this way... Their breathing was fast and they stayed in this position for a while so they could sieze their closeness...

Soo I hope you liked the new chapter. It was spicy at the end... I think that Baatar is actually pretty good in these activities :D His parents had 5 kids so he probably inherited some talent:D and if someone wonders how Baatar got back to Zaofu...He convinced his father that all the work he had to do was completed and there was no reason for him to stay in Yu Dao.
