Author's note: I am answering to the comment about Kuvira giving up her bending. Please gave it a chance. It will be really important for the storyline and you will discover soon why Kuvira started to hate her bending. It will be her inner fight with herself...

Zaofu, Gym, 3 weeks later
It was already April and Zaofu was full of blooming cherry trees. Birds were singing their beautiful songs and the airship station was really busy these days...
Kuvira always loved spring and it was her favourite season of the year. It meant more work as well but Kuvira was now used to being captain so it wasn't that chaotic as it was before...
Today...it was a sunny day and Kuvira had her dance practise in the afternoon. She had her bag with towel and water and was walking through the City Center in her training clothes and light jacket. It was nice to finally enjoy some sunlight however there sometimes was a cold breeze as well...
Kuvira met Theo on the afternoon watch in the City Center and they were talking for a while…Kuvira was happy to find out that his little Mia is an earthbender and she will join the dance group of the youngest children in summer.
The bell on the Zaofu Tower rang and Kuvira knew she has to go…When she got to the gym... most of the dancers were already there and the practise could start... Kuvira felt a little nervous when she was around Suyin... She almost caught her with Baatar few weeks ago and Kuvira hoped Suyin didn't felt her with her seismic sense in Baatar's bedroom.
Seismic sense was Kuvira's weakness... She mastered earthbending and metalbending in really young age but she was always too rash for seismic sensing... Suyin however... she was daughter of Toph Beifong... her seismic sense was one of the best but it still required full concentration... Kuvira hoped Suyin didn't felt that there was one more person in her oldest son's bedroom...
"We will dance the last part once again. It's still not perfect..." Suyin said loudly and Kuvira was disturbed from her thoughts. She went on her dance place next to Lia and they started to metalbend giant metal flower in the center of the gym.
The music was playing and Kuvira danced her part as good as she could. They used metal cabels in this performance and Kuvira with Lia were supposed to dance in the center of the bloom. It required full concentration and right timing...
All dancers moved synchronizingly and the music played loudly… Kuvira felt really tired after half an hour of training… She tried to hide it as much as she could but when Suyin anounced that they will have a break... Kuvira was the first one heading to the bench.
She sat down and was out of breath. She drank almost all her water from the bottle and then Kuvira was watching other dancers having break and chatting... She still held emty bottle in her hands and her legs felt heavy... she didn't want to stand up at all... "Pull it together Kuvira! You are the captain…you should be full of power and energy!"she thought for herself but her fatigue was still there…
"Alright. Let's continue!" Suyin called after a while and clapped her hands. Kuvira unwillingly stood up and sighed for herself. Hopefully the dance practise won't last that long today...
Zaofu, Beifongs's Residence
Baatar was in his laboratory and was looking out of the window. It seemed like a usual spring day but it wasn't... Today... it should be the best day to see all the planets on the night sky in one row... This rare constellation was happening once in 10 000 years and Baatar was happy he will have a chance to see this rare phenomenom...
Baatar with his father were preparing telescopes and maps of the sky all noon and now... they just had to wait for the sunset...
"It is called the harmonic convergence." Baatar Senior said and his son looked at him. "I've red about it a few times... It's really amazing that we will have a chance to see it..." he continued and Baatar went to his working table. He sat down and studied the sky maps more closely.
"Yeah." he replied and took off his glasses. He massaged his face and then cleaned his glasses by using fabric of his t-shirt. They planned to watch the planets from the top of the dome but Baatar hoped they won't be there much long because Kuvira should came this evening...
"I will get some more astronomy books from our library. Be prepared at the evening Junior." Baatar Senior said and left his son's laboratory.
Baatar took his glasses back on and watched his father leave…When he was sure his dad was gone… Baatar opened the first drawer of the table and smiled for himself. He took the Zaofu Newspaper with Kuvira on the front page out of the drawer and looked at the article about her... Baatar really loved that photography even though Kuvira thought she looked horrible there.
It was her beautiful eyes... her glance... so charming... Baatar wished that the photograph could be colorful and he could see Kuvira's dark green eyes everytime...
Baatar carefuly put the newspaper back to the drawer and took his notes. He wanted to revise his astrology books and prepare everything for the evening...
Zaofu, Guard's Residence
Kuvira was after her dance practise and was now heading back to her apartment. She quickly had to change to her guard uniform because her evening watch in the Beifongs's Residence would start in an hour.
The sun was slowly setting down and the City Center was full of shadows. It was a bit colder now but the sky was still clear... Kuvira wrapped her jacket tightly around her as she felt cold breeze which carried cherry blooms petals in the air… Kuvira couldn't wait to spend evening with Baatar and finally have some rest. She didn't felt great today...
When Kuvira got to the Guard's Residence... her legs were still heavy as she was going upstairs... When she reached the highest floor... Kuvira was out of breath again. She stopped for a while and tightened her grip on the handrail. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths...
Kuvira felt a little dizzy... She sighed and after a while she continued to her apartment. She quickly drank a few glasses of water and took on her uniform. She had to hurry because her watch would start really soon and she was late.
As the final touch... she repaired her braid and put the helmet on... She was ready...
Kuvira locked her apartment and quickly rushed to the Beifongs' Residence. It was beautiful sunset and soft breeze was still carrying cherry blooms petals everywhere... It should be calm evening watch today...
Zaofu, Beifongs's Residence
Baatar held his telescope in one hand and his sky maps in his second hand. The time was running and they had to get all the equiqment on the top of the dome before it will be too dark.
Baatar's father and him were carrying everything across the garden and Baatar was trying to spot Kuvira on her watch but couldn't see her anywhere...
"That should be everything we need." Baatar said while putting the rest of astrology books on the ground in the gardens.
"Excelent Junior. Now we need to inform captain to close the domes earlier..." his father said and looked around. "I'll go find her." he added and left to find Kuvira.
But before his father could return... Kuvira came from another direction and she smiled at Baatar. He quickly rushed to her and they shared a warm hug.
Kuvira and Baatar hided behind the tree and shared a soft kiss...
"I've left the balcony door open. Everything is prepared but I will come a bit later tonight..." Baatar whispered and caressed Kuvira's hands.
Kuvira looked into Baatar's light green eyes and replied: "I'll be waiting for you..."
Baatar nodded and they separated when they saw Baatar Senior coming closer to them. "Kuvira here you are. I couldn't find you." he said and was now just a few meters from them.
"That's alright dad. I've already told Kuvira if she could close the domes earlier..." Baatar said and blinked at Kuvira to pretend she knows about it.
"Of course. Just give me a few minutes." Kuvira said and gave Baatar the last glance. She went to the radio station and ordered other guards to close the domes for today...
Baatar watched the last sunlight disappearing as the domes were closing above his head. He picked the telescope from the ground and headed up to explore the sky with his father... he was curious what he'll see tonight…
Zaofu, Beifongs's Residence, a few hours later
It was already late night and Kuvira's watch was over... She saw that lights in Baatar's bedroom were off so he's probably still observing the planets...
Kuvira quietly sneaked in Baatar's balcony and the door was really open... Kuvira walked in and closed the door behind her so no more cold air could get inside..
Kuvira took off her helmet and didn't want to turn on the lights. It still had to look like the room is empty... She smiled when she saw that her dinner is waiting here for her as always...
She ate her dinner and was really tired... Kuvira hoped Baatar would come early...
...
It was almost midnight and Baatar was returning to his bedroom. He held his notes in one hand and his dark green jacket in his second hand...
Kuvira's watch ended an hour ago so she was there already… Baatar slowly opened the door... It was quiet inside. He turned the lights on and his room was filled with a warm glow...He put all the things on the table and when he got to the bedroom part he smiled for himself...
Kuvira fell asleep in the armchair and was wearing her light green knee length nightgown. Baatar walked closer to her and didn't want to wake her up. Her hair was still braided and her breathing was calm...
Baatar carefuly picked Kuvira up and carried her to the bed in bridal style... She was light as a feather and Baatar was surprised she didn't wake up. Kuvira was always a light sleeper and usually had trouble sleeping... She had to be really tired if this didn't wake her up... Baatar thought for himself…
Baatar slowly put Kuvira on the bed and covered her with warm blanket. Then he put a strand of her hair behind her ear and put a soft kiss on her cheek... He smiled for himself and turned the lights off... Baatar still had some work to do and had to change his clothes...He didn't want to disturb Kuvira's peaceful sleep...
Zaofu, Beifongs's Residence, a few hours later
"Kuvira" Baatar whispered and gently caressed Kuvira's back. She was laying on her belly and her legs were tangled in warm blankets. Her braid was messy and she was still asleep. "Kuvira wake up..." Baatar said in calm voice...
He put a soft kiss on her cheek and Kuvira felt his beard tickling her face. She opened her eyes and saw that she somehow got to the bed... "Baatar?" she said in a sleepy voice.
"You fell asleep. I carried you here and I would let you sleep longer but it's already 6 a.m." Baatar said and Kuvira sat up. She was tired yeasterday but she didn't remember falling asleep in the armchair. She didn't want to drop off like that...
"You should wake me up." Kuvira said and looked out of the window. It was cloudy and her morning watch would start in less than an hour.
"I didn't want to disturb your sleep..." Baatar said calmly and smiled at Kuvira. She smiled at him in return and unwillingly stood up. She turned on the lights and headed to the bathroom.
Baatar stood up as well and walked closer to his wardrobe to dress up. He had his usual dark green trousers and khaki t-shirt with metal necklace.
After a while Kuvira walked out of the bathroom and her braid was now perfect again. She started to take on her uniform and Baatar hided her nightgown back to his wardrobe where Kuvira was keeping it.
Kuvira took on her helmet and she was ready. "I will see you on Friday." Kuvira said and they shared a warm hug.
"I will come to your place." Baatar replied and Kuvira nodded. She kissed Baatar softly and went to the balcony... Baatar watched her leave and none of them knew what strange things will happen today...
Zaofu, airship station, later that day
Kuvira was on the airship station and had to check all the airships with cargo as they were about to fly to Yu Dao and Gaoling. It was still cloudy and wind was getting stronger... Kuvira hoped the airships will fly safely because she had a strange feeling something was wrong.
"It is such a strange weather today..." Lia said when she was helping Kuvira with administrative and they heard thunder from afar.
"I am thinking about postponing these flights for tomorrow... It is really dangerous..." Kuvira said and Lia nodded. They informed all the pilots to call it a day. They were all okay with it because they didn't want to fly as well.
When Kuvira wanted to radio to the City Hall about flights delays... out of nowhere... she felt that the ground was shaking... something like earthquake...
"What was it?" Lia asked with concerns and they heard loud thunder again... Kuvira looked on the sky and her jaw dropped...
"Look." Kuvira said and pointed on the sky. Lia's eyes got wide when she saw two violet shockwaves moving against them from South and North. "Everyone hide!" Kuvira ordered and all guards and pilots did as she said.
When the shockwaves met…it was like an explosion... airships nearly flied away and Kuvira was glad that they were attached to the platforms strongly. A big wave was violet and it was followed by darkness... "What is going on..." Kuvira knew something was wrong... She was afraid someone could attack Zaofu as the sky was starting to glow in a strange way...
Kuvira grabbed her radio and ordered: "Close all the domes immediately!" there could be another shockwave and Kuvira didn't want to risk more demage... She had to get to the City Hall... now...
Zaofu power plant, at the same time
Baatar and his father were repairing power batteries in the Zaofu power plant and the engine hall was full of workers at that time.
It was really spacious hall with small windows which were close to the ceiling and the whole area was filled with sounds of loud working machines...
Baatar was connecting cables of one power source when he felt the earthquake... All workers and his father were confused and worried... Then they heard loud thunder.
"What was it!?" Baatar Senior asked and all workers gathered in the center of the hall. Baatar quickly rushed upstairs to the clerestory to look out of the window and gasped when he saw two dark violet shockwaves heading against each other. This won't end well...
"Everyone get far from the windows!" Baatar screamed and jumped over the handrail. He safely landed on the floor and rushed out of the engine hall with other workers and his father.
At the time the shockwaves met... loud thunder could be heard again and after a second... glass windows in the power plant broke to small sharps and filled whole engine hall...
Baatar's heartbeat was fast and he hoped noone was injured. "Is everybody alright?" Baatar Senior asked with concerns and felt relief when he found out all workers made it far from the windows on time...
"I've never seen anything like this before... It were two shockwaves and they were about to connect." Baatar explained and his father thought about his son's words...
Baatar walked back to the window to see what happened. The sky was dark and glowing in a strange way now..."It's totally dark outside." Baatar called to his father and others. He saw that the domes started to close... Kuvira had to order it... so she's alright... Baatar thought for himself and felt relief. "The domes are closing. It will protect us in case of another shockwaves." Baatar continued and returned back to his father and others.
"What should we do?" one of the workers asked with concerns and Baatar Senior looked at his son.
"Junior... stay here in case there are some demages on the power sources. I will go to the City Hall and I will try to find out what happened..." Baatar Senior said and Baatar nodded. He watched his father leave and instructed another workers to check if there are some serious demages on the machines... He wondered what could cause such a powerful shockwaves...
Zaofu, the City Hall, an hour later
Kuvira rushed to the City Hall and saw that some windows were demaged after the explosion... The domes were now closed so it was protecting everyone... Kuvira ordered guards to help all citizenz of Zaofu and to be prepared in case of emergency.
When Kuvira got to the City Hall... Su, Aiwei and other councillors were already there. "Were we attacked?" Kuvira asked and was out of breath.
Suyin looked at her and said: "We weren't attacked. We got a messege from Republic City. The avatar is fighting with some kind of spiritual being. It caused the shockwaves." Kuvira wasn't sure what Suyin was talking about but she didn't like that at all...
"So what are the orders now?" Kuvira asked and Suyin came closer to her. "All guards will have an emergency today. Be prepared for everything. Hopefuly we will call the state of emergency off soon." Kuvira nodded and realized this was her first challenge as a captain. She had to be professional...
When Kuvira was about to leave the City Hall council room... Baatar Senior got inside and was out of breath as well...
"Are you alright Baatar?" Suyin rushed to her husband and he hugged her.
"Yes. I am alright. Me and Junior were in the power plant engine hall and some of the windows were broken but we managed to hide on time..." Baatar Senior said and Kuvira felt relief that Baatar was alright. After a while she saw that Aiwei was watching her with strange face expression...
Kuvira left the hall and tried to ignore Aiwei's glances. She didn't say anything so there were no ways he could knew about her and Baatar... but Kuvira wondered what Aiwei was thinking about…
Suyin told her husband about what happened in Republic City and after a while Baatar Senior said: "It's because of harmonic convergence...I've red about these shockwaves once... but I thought it was just a myth..."he was now looking at everyone..."there were two waves and they connected on the equator... that's why there are such a serious demages in Zaofu...because of our location...this shockwaves come from dark spiritual energy" he added and Suyin was worried...
"So there's nothing we can do..." Suyin said and her face was full of concerns...
"I am afraid that this is only avatar's fight... we will have to wait..." Aiwei said and looked out of the window on the closed domes... The dark energy was everywhere...
Zaofu power plant
It was almost an hour since the explosion and Baatar was checking everything in the engine hall. It seemed there were no demages on the technologies and Baatar send all the workers home... They were still in shock and there was no need to keep them here...
Baatar sat on the ground and took off his glasses. He massaged his face and sighed. He hoped everyone was alright...
Baatar closed his eyes and took a deep breath... he still thought about that violet light... He have never seen something like that before...
The sound of emergency alarm disturbed Baatar from his deep thoughts and he opened his eyes. He quickly stood up and ran closer to the backup power sources in the corner of the hall...
Baatar had a closer look on them and saw that backup sources weren't giving energy away but they were accepting it... It was strange because these bateries were gaining power from the domes when it was hit by a lightning during the storm... and there was no storm today...
The alarm was getting louder and louder and Baatar saw that the sources are overheating. Baatar's eyes got wide when he saw that it started glowing... That violet light looked like the one he saw on the sky just an hour ago... He quickly disconnected the bateries and that glow disappeared... it was too much power for it to handle and it could burn all the cables inside…
At this moment… Baatar was sure that this energy was much stronger than just a lightning... It fascinated him... He will return there when it all ends and he will try to learn more about these power impulses...
...
Kuvira and other guards spent all afternoon in emergency positions on the top of the domes... The darkness was still outside and messeges from Republic City were really serious... The city was attacked by a giant monster and the avatar was fighting against it...
The thunders were still heard all around the Zaofu Mountains and Kuvira was looking up to the sky while holding the radio in her hand.
She needed at least some messege... It was horrible to just wait and not be able to do something...
Kuvira hoped that the avatar will win. She heard about her before... They were almost the same age and Kuvira tried to imagine being in her position... It had to be amazing to poses such a big power...
She was disturbed from her thoughts by a radio signal. "Captain do you hear me?" Kuvira recognized that voice... It was one of the councillors...
"Yes. I hear you clearly." Kuvira answered and guards who were standing close to her looked at their captain curiously.
"We've recieved a good news from Republic City. The avatar managed to defeat the dark spirit. You can call off the emergency. " the councillor added and Kuvira had a wide smile on her face. They were safe...
"Understood. Thank you councillor." she replied and all guards gathered around her in the center of the dome.
"What did they say?" Theo asked desperately and other guards waited for Kuvira's answer...
"The avatar has won. We're safe." Kuvira said and all guards felt relief and were relaxed. All of it caught them by surprise and it was really stressful for them today... "The emergency is over..." she wanted to add but was disturbed by a thunder...
The darkness started to disappeare out of nowhere and cloudy sky with setting sun was revealed... The shockwaves moved backwards and the sky was getting normal again... It was over...
Kuvira looked at her guards and said: "It's over. We've got orders to call off the emergency but we'll keep the domes closed for today..." she had authoritative voice and all guards nodded. It was a long day for all of them...
Guards left the domes and returned back to the city. According to reports there were no injured but a few bigger windows were broken. Kuvira arranged special unit of guards to help the citizens with cleaning shetters and then headed back to Guard's Residence...
When Kuvira got to her apartment she thought she would fall asleep in the doorway. It was late evening and she was so tired... she still couldn't catch breath from going upstairs... but she was glad that her Metal City and everyone in it was safe now...
This was such a long day and Kuvira was glad she had day off tomorrow... However they will have much work with fixing all the demage in the next week... But Kuvira kept it firts thing in the morning... Right now... she just needed to rest...
...
On the other side of the city Baatar was laying in his bed and was still fully clothed...He was thinking about what happened to the power bateries today... He will have to figure it out somehow... because this spiritual power...
Could be a new chapter in the field of science...
Zaofu, the next day
When Kuvira woke up... she felt like she haven't slept at all... In fact she still felt tired like in the evening. Kuvira turned on her other side in bed and was now looking out of the window... It was still cloudy today and she had to sleep really long time because other guards opened the domes already...Kuvira sighed and covered herself more tightly with warm blankets.
"What's wrong with me?" she thought for herself as she really felt under the weather... this fatigue lasted three days already and her starting headache didn't help at all...
This definitely wasn't the best start of the day...
Zaofu, Beifongs's Residence, at the same time
Baatar was in the gym from really early in the morning... He couldn't fall asleep today as he still had to think about what happened yesterday and how strange it was...
He didn't know spirits were that powerful... Maybe they could be used as a power source somehow... It was definitely something what interested him...
After an hour Baatar decided to call it a day and went back to his room. He took a quick shower in the gym and then headed upstairs to his place...
Baatar was lost in his thoughts and couldn't force himself to walk in his usual speed... while passing by his siblins' rooms he heard scared screaming coming from Opal's room.
"Aaaaahhhh!" Baatar heard and almost fell on the floor how it scared him. He quickly rushed to Opal's room and opened the door.
"Opal! Are you alright?" Baatar said with concerns and his eyes got wide when he saw his sister sitting on the floor surounded by shatters from the vase.
"What happened here?" Wei asked and all Baatar's brothers were now here as well. They were still in their pyjamas and were really worried about their sister.
"Did someone attack you?" Wing asked and helped Baatar to pick Opal up from the floor.
"No." Opal said and was still in shock. She was now sitting on the edge of the bed and Huan quickly brought her a glass of water.
Baatar had a closer look on the shatters and didn't understand how they got all over the room... If the vase fell on the floor from it's usual place and broke... the shatters wouldn't fly that far...
"What happened here? We heard screaming?" Suyin and Baatar Senior rushed to Opal's room and their faces were full of worries...
Suyin hugged her scared daughter and Baatar Senior said: "We were so worried about you... What happened Opal?" all members of Beifong family were now looking at her curiously...
Opal took a deep breath and tried to find the courage to speek...she thought she got crazy... Opal looked at her family and after a while she finally said: "I think I was airbending..."
