I'm kinda tired of fathers not getting any love. They are usually portrayed as doofuses or ineffective figure heads. So here's to fathers on Fathers Day. You are important. Although I don't think there are any fathers reading this, I'll just say Happy Father's Day anyway. Go tell your father or father-figure what they've meant to you.
I do not own the show.
"Rex, I know it's your me time but I need you to talk to Violeta." Circe gently pushed the paper Rex was reading down.
"Why? What happened?" Rex asked immediately concerned.
"She was upset at Rafael for something and hit him. He was crying but I calmed him down. Neither of them would tell me what happened."
"Wait, Violeta hit Rafael?" Rex asked incredulously.
"Yes, Rex try to keep up. You need to find out what's going on." Circe said firmly.
Rex put down the paper he was reading and walked over to Violeta's room. He gave a light knock.
"Sweetie? It's daddy. Can I come in?"
There was a sniffle and the door creaked open. Rex walked in. The room was dark. Violeta crawled back into her bed and buried her head in her pillow.
Rex gingerly sat on the edge of the bed.
"So... Wanna tell me what happened?"
It was quiet at first but after another sniffle Violeta started talking. Once she started it was as if the flood gates were opened. "I'm sorry I hit Raffy, but he made me so mad. I told him to put the mug down but he kept touching it. I told him and told him. I said please and everything but he wouldn't listen. So I grabbed it and he wouldn't let go and it fell and broke."
The words were run together and they were a little rambly but he got the gist of it.
"Hey Violeta sometimes our siblings do things that make us mad. I remember, once, Uncle Caesar made me so mad that I punched him."
"You did?" Violeta looked up.
"Yup and you know what?"
"What?
"We forgave each other and became better friends after that."
Violeta thought about it.
She got up and gathered the broken pieces of the mug and walked back to her father.
"This was supposed to be your Father's Day gift. It's all broken now so it's useless." She said sadly.
Rex looked at the pieces in his hands.
"I have an idea. Come with me." Together father and daughter walked out. He put the pieces down on the kitchen table.
"Stay here," he told his daughter. He left. Violeta nervously sat down and waited for her dad to return.
After what seemed like forever, Rex came back. In one hand he held the glue and newspaper under his arm. In the other hand he held Rafael's.
Rafael s eyes were red and he wouldn't look directly at Violeta
"Do you have something to say to your sister?" Rex asked Rafael gently.
"I'm sorry." Rafael mumbled eyes on the ground.
"I'm sorry too, hermano." Violeta said.
"Yeah?" Rafael looked up tears brimming in his eyes.
"Of course, you're my best little brother." Violeta said.
"I'm your only little brother. You're my best big sister." Rafael grinned. It was an old joke between them.
"I'm your only big sister." Violeta gave a small smile.
The siblings embraced.
Rex smiled. "Now let's fix this thing."
They spent the rest of the afternoon pasting together the mug. They talked and joked as they sorted through the mess trying to find the pieces that fit together. Rex carefully dabbed glue on the edges and the kids held the pieces long enough for the glue to set. Finally, after a while they were done. They admired their handiwork.
"Looks good." They turned to look at their mom. She stood leaning in the doorway with her arms crossed and a slight smile on her face. "Now how about we clean up and get ready for dinner. Pizza should be here soon." Everyone's face lit up.
"Is it stuff crust?" Rafael asked.
"You know it, baby." She fondly ruffled his hair.
He gave a little whoop and ran up the stairs followed by an equally enthusiastic Violeta. Rex swept up the remaining clutter on the table and threw it in the trash. He carefully picked up the still drying mug and set it in front of the kitchen window to dry.
He turned to go upstairs to clean up only to find Circe blocking his way.
She put her hands against his chest. Her fingers curled around his jacket as she pulled him closer to her.
She smiled. "You know I love you?"
Rex surprised by the sudden show of affection, put his arms around her.
"Yeah? How much?" He smirked.
"Oh you'll find out tonight." She said slyly.
"Sweet." Rex bent over and kissed her.
"Ewwwww," Violeta said from the stairs.
"Ewwwww," Rafael repeated.
Rex and Circe pulled away leisurely. Rex had a glint in his eye and a smirk on his lips.
"Ahhh, don't be jealous. I have kissies for you too." Rex bounded up the stairs with a wicked grin.
Violeta and Rafael squealed and ran away.
"Here comes the kissy monster." Rex yelled playfully.
They disappeared from Circe's view but she could hear more squeals and peals of laughter.
"Eww, daaad!" Came her children's voices.
Circe smiled. They were lucky that Rex is in their lives.
