Fighting his motion sickness, the Dragon Slayer closed his eyes. Natsu was on his way to a mission he picked out for him and Lucy. However, there has been a change in lineup. Instead of the Celestial mage, Erza stepped up to the plate. The Dragon Slayer would've waited any amount of time for his best friend to arrive. At some point, he got the feeling she wasn't going to show up.
This morning has been full of twists and turns. First, Lisanna confesses her feelings for Natsu. Next, Lucy doesn't show up for a mission they were going on. Finally, the young wizard was unable to shake the knot in his stomach. Nearly every one of his thoughts was centered around the Celestial wizard.
The scarlet maiden thankfully pulled The Dragon Slayer out of a bad situation. At least he didn't have to go alone.
However, the way Erza was glaring at Natsu, he almost wished he'd taken the chance.
"What's with that look on your face?"
Titania raised a brow. "I didn't realize I had a 'look' as you put it."
Natsu closed his eyes, doing everything he could to keep his motion sickness at bay. If he didn't know any better, he'd say his teammate wanted to see him suffer.
After the morning he's had, the Dragon Slayer felt as though he kind of deserved it.
The two sat in silence for most of the trip. The scarlet maiden was gathering the courage to speak. She wasn't sure how to approach this subject, as it could be a touchy subject. Come on Erza… Do this for your teammates. Lucy deserves to know the answer.
"Why did you come to Fairy Tail so early this morning?"
Natsu raised a brow, suddenly feeling like he was in some sort of interrogation. "I was excited for my mission to start? I also wanted to eat breakfast before leaving. Don't tell me that's why you've got a sour look."
"I don't have a sour look!"
"You kinda do…" Happy mentioned, immediately regretting it from the glare he received. The blue Exceed flew in the direction of the food cart, wanting to avoid Titania's glare.
"I didn't intend to ruin your spa day, Erza!" Natsu crossed his arms, leaning back in his seat.
"I'm not so worried about my day in Hosenka being delayed." The young wizard took a deep breath. The conversation was already headed to a rocky place." I am definitely more concerned about the wellbeing of my team. Natsu, I'm just trying to find out what happened. I've never seen Lucy more upset than when she left the guild ha-"
' Wait.." His motion-sickness left him for a moment. This filled him with confusion, as well as a knot right in his stomach.. "Lucy was there this morning?"
Erza's eyes widened. "Of course she was. She was meeting you for this mission, was she not?"
"I didn't even know she was there…" The Dragon Slayer ran his hands through his hair, tugging at it. "No wonder she didn't want to go on this mission with me…" Feelings of shame and despair began to fill him. Tears were stinging his eyes as he began to blink rapidly. "She probably hates me…"
"Natsu…"
"I'm such an idiot!"
"I had an amazing time." Levy beamed towards the Iron Dragon Slayer. "Thanks for letting me tag along! Even though I don't think you really needed me there."
"Sure I did." Gajeel shrugged. "You were helpful."
"All I did was make you some Iron, maybe once." Rolling her eyes, the script mage chuckled. "Either way, I appreciate you asking me to tag along."
"I noticed more people on the street at night." Pantherlily commented. "Most of them looked like they were up to no good."
"Now that you mention it… There was a lot of commotion after we went to bed last night. Maybe crime is getting worse in that town."
"It was happening in Hosenka too." Levy mentioned. "Lily, don't you remember that group that walked up to us?"
"Yeah…They were a strange looking bunch." The Exceed gazed across the riverway. "Hey look, it's Wendy.." Pantherlilly observed.
Out of the corner of her eye, Levy noticed Wendy looked panicked. She turned to see the young Dragon Slayer talking with Carla, pacing back and forth on the sidewalk. "I wonder if everything's okay."
"Maybe we should go investigate." Black Steele mentioned. "She looks pretty worked up about somethin'."
Carla sighed, holding the bridge of her nose for a moment. "Child, you're getting all worried over nothing. What your friend needs is comfort, you shouldn't be anxious about saying the wrong thing. I'm sure she just wants someone to listen."
Lucy left all of her belongings at Fairy Tail in her rush. Before the girls left, Carla made sure their own belongings were secured in a place they'd be safe. Once that was finished, Wendy and her friend quickly head to the Celestial Wizard's apartment with her bags.
Some time during their rush, the Sky Dragon Slayer began overthinking what she was going to do once she arrived at Lucy's. Knowing her, she probably wouldn't be in the mood to talk.
"I know you're right, Carla…" The Sky Dragon Slayer sighed and took a deep breath. "I just can't help but wish her best friend was here. Levy would know what to do, but she's on a mission right now."
The trio crossed the bridge and onto the other side of the street. Once there, Levy quickly made her way up to the young wizard. The script mage noticed they had some bags with them.
"Hey girl! Is everything okay?"
"Levy? Oh thank goodness you're here!" The young Dragon Slayer could've cheered.
"Why do you say that?" The script mage chuckled. "You look pretty frazzled, what's going on?"
"Uh…" Wendy rubbed the back of her head, unsure where to start. "How about we talk on the way? We're headed to Lucy's apartment."
"Is something wrong?" Levy became concerned. She went on this mission only a couple of days ago. What could've possibly happened over the last few days?
"Let me guess.." Gajeel scoffed. "Does this have something to do with Salamander?"
Wendy raised a brow in confusion. "How did you know?"
"Shoulda guessed he would've done something to mess it up." The Iron Dragon Slayer chuckled.
Levy was becoming increasingly more concerned. She knew how strong Lucy's feelings were for Natsu. "Can you tell me what happened?"
"Uh…" The Sky Dragon Slayer rubbed the back of her head, her cheeks becoming red.
"I think it'd be best if Lucy told you." Carla mentioned honestly. "We were on our way to her apartment with her bags. In her rush this morning, she seemed to have left them at the guild hall."
The Script mage couldn't believe what she was hearing. What the hell did I miss?! Levy contemplated as they began to walk towards Lucy's apartment. Gajeel and Pantherlilly took care of the luggage for them. "Man… I hope she's okay."
It didn't take long for the group to reach the Celestial mage's place. Levy knocked on the door before opening it quietly. "Hey Lu! I just got back from the job I was on. Came to see if you were home?"
There wasn't any sound for quite some time. Eventually, a pink haired spirit came to the door. "My Princess doesn't wish to have visitors at the moment." Virgo stated simply.
"I know she's not in the best mood right now. We brought her stuff back from the guild hall. Virgo, please will you let us in?" Levy pleaded. It was unlike her spirit to be so strict. Something serious must've taken place, or else Virgo wouldn't be acting this way.
"I'm sorry miss, but my Princess clearly stated she wanted to be left alone."
"Is that Levy?" A frail voice came from the dark apartment.
"Yes, as well as Wendy, Gajeel, and the black cat." The maiden turned her head.
"It's okay Virgo, Levy can come in."
"You heard the lady." A stern look came over the celestial spirit's features.
The bluenette's eyes widened. None of her spirits have ever been this protective of Lucy. Something extreme must have happened. Looking behind her, Levy sighs. "Sorry guys, I guess I'll catch up with you later."
"It's no problem." Wendy smiled.
"What the hell! We came all this way to cheer her up!" Gajeel glared at the maiden. "You'd better let us in!"
"I will not, Mr. Dragon Slayer. I suggest you leave. Miss. Levy is the only one allowed to enter."
Wendy took Gajeel's hand and pulled him away, kicking and screaming. Although it was a pretty tough fight, eventually the Iron Dragon Slayer relented. When the spectacle was over, Virgo gestured for the bluenette to enter as she grabbed Lucy's bags.
The first thing the script mage noticed was how dark the apartment was. Every light was turned off except for the ones in Lucy's bedroom. Gazing back at the Maiden, Levy couldn't help but ask. "Virgo, is there a reason why you're here?"
"My big brother sensed a distress signal coming from our Princess." Virgo stated simply. "He was busy at the moment, so he asked me to check on her and make sure she wasn't in danger."
"Does that happen often?" The Script mage was astonished at how their connection with Lucy worked.
"Actually, no." The Maiden shrugged as she placed the Celestial wizard's belongings near her closet. "Usually only when she is in grave danger."
What could've happened? I saw her the night before last! Levy took one look at Lucy's room and ran towards it. Seeing the lump underneath several blankets broke the Script mage's heart. "Sweetie, what happened?"
"You've missed an eventful couple of days." The celestial mage chuckled darkly.
"Lu, how did so much happen in that time?"
The blonde rolled her eyes, continuing to laugh. "I managed to spill my true feelings to Natsu. It seemed as though he felt the same way, in the moment." Lucy goes into the juicy details of that night, becoming distraught once again.
"And after?" Levy's eyes widened as she watched tears fill her best friend's eyes.
"Everything was great until I walked into the guild hall this morning." The blonde took a few minutes to catch her breath, trying not to get too emotional. "I went to the request board, picked another job to take after I got back, and turned to see Natsu and Lisanna kissing."
The Script mage gasped, covering her mouth. She felt her eyes begin to sting with tears. Instead of being sad, she was angry with the Dragon Slayer for toying with Lucy's emotions. However, the logical part of her brain realizes this could all be a misunderstanding. What if Lisanna was the one to initiate the kiss? It still sucks to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but this could be resolved rather quickly!
"Here's the tea you asked for, Princess." Virgo knocked quietly on the doorframe before entering. Setting it on the end table, the maiden took her seat back on Lucy's bed, rubbing her back and comforting her.
"Thanks.." The Celestial mage sat up for a moment, taking the tea and offering some to Levy as well.
"Lu, there may be a simple explanation for this!" Levy mentioned happily. "What if she was the one that instigated the kiss? If Lisanna kissed him first, then he obviously still has feelings for you!"
"I'd like to think it's that simple too, Levy." The young wizard seemed beside herself. "I've wanted this so badly and for so long, what if I was the one that pushed it on Natsu?"
"Don't you dare start thinking like that…" Virgo mentioned from behind the celestial mage.
"Virgo's right! As soon as he's back from the mission, I'm sure we can get this all figured out."
"I've been so worried about figuring out my love life and who it's supposed to be with for too long." The Celestial mage let out an exasperated sigh. "I realized today that I don't really know who I am anymore. Before joining Fairy Tail, I was chasing this dream of becoming a successful writer. Since becoming a member, I've had this dream of becoming a strong wizard who can actually compete with the best of them."
"In my daze of thinking about Natsu, I've lost sight of all that. Coming back from Edolas has put a lot of things into perspective." Lucy pulled her messenger bag off of the floor, pulling out the job request that she grabbed.
"I'm going to take this job. It's nothing like I've done in the past. I think it'll be good for me to take this time and get to know myself a little better."
Taking the request from her hands, Levy read over the flier. "This sounds a little dangerous, Lu. I mean, going undercover means you're kind of avoiding yourself to become someone else. Don't you think you're rushing into-"
"It doesn't really matter what anyone says." The Celestial Mage had a determined look on her features. It scared her best friend. "I'm doing this because I need to better myself."
"There are other ways-"
"I've already made up my mind, Levy."
"You'll never be alone, Princess." Virgo wrapped an arm around Lucy's shoulders, a smile on her face. "You have all of your spirits right at your side. Don't cut yourself short just because you're not physically fit. You know Princess, we could put you on an eating plan-"
"Hey!" The Celestial Mage glared.
Unsure of what to say, Levy felt as if her best friend wasn't acting rational. Instead of shutting herself out to the world, it would've been easier to just confront Natsu when he returned. In all honesty, the script mage would've urged Lucy to go on the mission still! She would've been able to confront the Dragon Slayer and get the answers she needs.
"When are you leaving?" Levy asked curiously.
"Tomorrow morning." Lucy answered definitely
