Zaofu, the Beifongs' Residence, at the same time
It was really early morning and Zaofu was covered with darkness. The domes stayed opened during the night in case the airship would return but it never did...
Baatar was standing on his balcony and watched the horizon. He was still hoping to see lights of the airship but they didn't even recieved any message wether they've already made it to the Northern Air Temple or not...
The wind was strong and cold and it carried small raindrops. Since Kuvira and others left Zaofu, the weather was everything but not bright. It was cloudy and windy... Baatar didn't know if it is a bad sign... however this kind of weather now portrayed his feelings and thoughts perfectly...
Yesterday afternoon... Kuvira, team avatar and his mother with aunt left Zaofu and Baatar couldn't stop thinking about it...
His little sister Opal and other airbenders were in danger. His mother and aunt were risking to save them and Kuvira was risking as well...
Baatar saw that moment when Kuvira was standing under the willow tree in her beautiful dress over and over again in his mind... Her dark hair dancing in soft breeze and holding a daisy flower in her hands...
Kuvira didn't want to hide their relationship anymore... That was the first thing she said. Baatar was actually really happy about that. They could finally show their feelings on public and Baatar could finally tell his family that he fell in love...
Lately, Baatar also thought about one more thing. He planned to move out of the Beifongs' Residence... He wanted to buy his own flat or a house in Zaofu and he wanted to ask Kuvira if she would like to move in with him... It would be really nice to have place just for themselves...
Baatar had plenty of money to afford every house in Zaofu... He was getting his engineer salary and being a Beifong was an advantage as well...
Now...if he and Kuvira would reveal their relationship, there was no reason why they couldn't live together as well. Of course people would be talking about it... There are still almost no secrets in Zaofu... People would be talking about the fact that Baatar and Kuvira are not married yet and they still live under the same roof...
Baatar sighed and thought about the engegament ring which is still waiting for it's owner in the drawer of the working table... He had a soft smile on his face... Baatar planned to propose to Kuvira but was waiting for the right moment... They were both so young... Baatar didn't want to push Kuvira to anything...
But it was not changing a thing about Baatar's feelings for Kuvira... he was taking things seriously from the begining with her... and Baatar wanted Kuvira to know it for sure. He couldn't wait to give her that handmade ring one day...
But there was one more important thing on Baatar's mind... It was the second information Kuvira wanted to tell him... Baatar spent all night by wondering what it could be and if it has something in common with revealing their relationship...
Kuvira seemed a bit nervous when she was leaving... she said they will talk about it on their trip... The trip was supposed to be today... but the weather and Kuvira's absence changed the situation rapidly...It will have to wait for another time.
Baatar sighed and felt his heart beating fastly. He knew Kuvira is now fighting with dangerous criminals and Baatar hated that he can't help her or others...Unfortunately he had no other option than wait...
The sky became much lighter even though it was still really cloudy... Baatar decided to leave the balcony and returned to his bedroom... He haven't slept all night and knew more sleep won't come today so he continued to his study room...
Ton of papers was on his working table but Baatar couldn't find needed concentration. He sat down on his chair and took off his glasses... Baatar massaged his face and felt storm of thoughts in his mind...
His bedroom felt so empty without Kuvira's presence...
Entire Beifongs' Residence seemed empty without his mother as well... It was such a strange atmosphere...
Baatar took a deep breath and decided to go find his father. Maybe there would be at least some news...
Baatar stood up and went to his bathroom to take a shower. Hot water and steam made his body relaxed but his mind still felt tension...
After the shower, he put on some fresh clothes and returned back to his working table... Kuvira never left his thoughts... He wished he could protect her and be with her. He wished to give her strength. Baatar wished he was born a bender to go there instead of her... but the destiny had different plans...
Baatar took his glasses back on and something on his table caught his attention. Little white stone from Kuvira... Baatar softly smiled for himself and took the stone to his hand. He was holding it tightly in hope Kuvira could feel he's thinking about her...
"I love you Kuvira..." Baatar whispered in his empty room... He hoped that somewhere far away from Zaofu... Kuvira can fell all the love Baatar feels for her... He hoped she's save... and others are too...
...
After a few moments of quiet, Baatar put the stone to his pocket and headed to the dining room... His brothers probably couldn't sleep as well because noises were coming out of their rooms.
When Baatar got down stairs, he opened large dining room door and saw his father sitting by the table alone. There were dark circles under his eyes and his breakfast was untouched. When he heard the door open, Baatar Senior looked at his oldest son...
"Hello Junior." he said and Baatar had to admit he have never seen his father so under the weather before... But there were no wonders why...
"Good morning..." Baatar answered and slowly headed to his chair on his father's right hand side... "Still no news?"
"No... Nothing." his father said and sighed. He was really worried about Opal and Suyin... Baatar nodded and was thinking wether he should say something more or not... Lately, his relationship with his father was... not the best. But right now there were much more important things that their work...
Both Baatars were sitting in quiet dining room and no words were needed. They both didn't really want to talk... Their personalities were way too similar.
That awkward quiet ended when Huan, Wei and Wing joined them but the atmosphere in the room stayed the same. Huan minded his own business as always and Wei with Wing were hyperactive as always. But they were still worried...
"Dad? Why nobody told us there's gonna be a secret mission?" Wei asked and Wing added: "We could help."
Baatar Senior looked at them with strict face expression and said: "No boys. You are only fifteen and your mother stricly prohibited it." Wei and Wing tried to argue but Baatar Senior ended the discussion immediately.
"Kuvira is barely twenty..." Baatar thought for himself... he was worried and not knowing what is going on with all of them was a nightmare. He felt a strange feeling since Kuvira left. Like he should do something... but he didn't know what it was.
Baatar was replaying their last conversation in his mind again and again. He tried to find something unusual what he maybe didn't see at first...
But before Baatar could deeply think things trough... one of the guards ran inside of the dining room and all Beifong brothers looked at him. It was Hong Li and he couldn't catch breath.
Baatar thought something was wrong and his heart started beating even faster now...
"What happened?!" Baatar Senior asked desperately as he quickly stood up.
"We've got a message." Hong Li said while standing in the dorway without breath...
Everyone was now waiting desperately on Hong Li's future words... Is he carrying good news or bad news...
Baatar stood up and quickly walked closer to Hong Li. "What happened, Hong Li?" Baatar asked once more while looking into his eyes...
Hong Li had trouble catching breath but the sentence he was about to say brought the sign of hope...
"The airship is return Ing. The avatar won." he said and Beifongs' felt relief... Finally they've got a message... Baatar breathed out slowly and was glad to hear that...It was a good sign... The Red Lotus was destroyed and the Earth Kingdom was safe again...
Kuvira and others were coming home...
The Metal Clan airship, early afternoon
The weather in the Northern Earth Kingdom got much better and the sunlight was casting trough the clouds. The atmosphere was much better now after the victory over the Red Lotus... but this victory had a big cost...
After defeating the Red Lotus, Mako, Bolin and Asami returned for the Metal Clan airship which was stolen by Ghazan and Ming Hua. The avatar was really seriously injured and it was decided to transport Korra directly to Republic City...
The airship was now heading to the State of Yai where they should meet the White Lotus airship which will transport injured airbenders and avatar Korra back to Republic City.
Kuvira was working all the time and barely had space to focus on her own injuries. She was taking care of injured airbenders and other guards as well. Some airbenders were transported on a flying bisons but others were in really serious state and that's why the airship was a better option for them.
The engines were making their usual loud noises but this time, Kuvira wasn't listening. She was so tired but there was still adrenalin in her blood which kept her functioning. She was fully in her captain mode...
The flight went okay untill the moment Kuvira was checking Theo's ankle... Kuvira felt that sharp pain in her back again and gasped.
"Kuvira are you sure you're alright?" Theo asked with concerns and Lia, who was helping to one airbender, was now looking at Kuvira as well.
Kuvira took a deep breath and looked at their faces full of worries. "I am fine. Don't worry...It's just my back." Kuvira said decisively but worries were growing bigger and bigger inside of her...
Kuvira quickly finished checking Theo's ankle and stood up. She had to check the baby again because she was afraid this back pain could be also hurting her little one.
She quickly walked away to the little airship restroom. There was only a toilet, basin and small mirror. Kuvira walked in and locked the door. She breathed out and looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her braid was messy and she saw insecurity in her own eyes.
"It's alright, little bump. We are safe now and no harm will happen to you again. I promise..." Kuvira whispered when she was removing her chest armor. She put it down on the floor and immediately put her cold hand on her stomach...
Kuvira was nervous but then felt relief again when she sensed the baby's little heart. Small smile was now on Kuvira's face as she caressed her bump... She knew her back was aeching because of that many falls... but luckily it seemed her baby was alright...
However Kuvira still felt like she should do more... What if something bad happened and she doesn't know? Kuvira couldn't stand a thought that hers and Baatar's little baby is struglling. Kuvira didn't really know much about pregnancy... She just knew some basics but her intuition was telling her to do something more... She had to find a person who could help her... Kuvira needed to be sure...
After putting her chest armor back on, Kuvira washed her face with cold water and tried to think of someone who could check on the baby. She realized that the person will know about the baby earlier than Baatar but right now, she knew the baby's health comes first...
But who could be the one Kuvira could trust to? She didn't want to talk to Suyin. It wouldn't be a good choice...
Maybe she could talk to Lia. But Kuvira had a feeling she knows as little about pregnancy as Kuvira herself...
Kuvira felt desperate. Who could help to her little bump? Kuvira knew she has to calm herself down a little. Her stress was not helping at all and she had to clear her mind...
The stable rythm of baby's heartbeat made Kuvira concentrated again and she took a deep breath. Then she looked into the mirror again and an idea occured in her mind... Avatar Korra...
Avatar Korra was a water healer! Kuvira felt hope again and immediately knew what she has to do. Korra was willing to save the airbenders... She will surely help Kuvira as well and she will keep her secret to herself.
Kuvira took a deep breath and put loose strands of hair behind her ears...then she opened the door. Avatar Korra was in a separated cabin next to pilot's cabin. She was really seriously injured after the battle but Kuvira hoped she's doing better now...
The airbenders were looking at Kuvira but she was ignoring them. She couldn't loose time. The White Lotus airship will be there in a few minutes and Korra will be transported to Republic City. After that... Kuvira won't have a chance to make sure the baby is unharmed...
Kuvira felt nervous but tried to stay professional so nobody would notice. She wished she could talk to Korra in private but her father was still by her side...Kuvira was standing in the corner of the main cabin and she started to feel that the airship is already landing. The White Lotus had to be there... How could she get to Korra?
There was no way she could get in unnoticed. Kuvira almost wanted to give up but then she saw chief Lin walking to Korra's cabin and she knocked on the door... Chief Tonraq opened it and had a short conversation with Lin.
Kuvira frowned because she thought they will enter back inside but instead... Chief Tonraq walked out and headed straight to the pilot's cabin together with Lin...
Korra was now alone in there. It was Kuvira's only chance... She took a deep breath and grabbed a package of fresh bandages. Her heart was beating fastly and her cheeks were red from nervousness. She hoped her loose hair and bad light in the cabin will cover it...
Kuvira headed straight to Korra's cabin and hoped not many people will notice. They were all focused on the airship landing than on others...Kuvira quickly opened the door and was not loosing time by knocking...
When Kuvira finally sneaked in, she saw that Korra is still asleep... They managed to stabilize her but not enough... Kuvira hoped she will wake up. She was the only one who could help...
Kuvira walked closer to her bed and her heart was beating even faster. Someone could walk inside in every second... Kuvira picked all her courage and kneeled next to Korra's bed...
"Avatar Korra? Korra please wake up." Kuvira whispered and felt her heart racing. She had to hurry. But Korra didn't seem to react at all... Kuvira didn't have much time left...
"Korra please...I need to talk to you... " Kuvira said it a bit louder and softly shaked with her shoulder. "You are the only one who can help me...please... please, wake up..." Kuvira was now desperate. "I know there's still some strength in you... you can still help me... please...it will be just a few seconds."still no answer.
Kuvira sighed and felt her hands shaking. She had to say it...
"Please Korra...I... I... am pregnant..." warm tear was now running down Kuvira's cheek but the avatar was still unconcious. She had concussion...
"I need your help...please...I don't know what to do... " Kuvira's voice now cracked. She put her hand on her belly and the heartbeat was still there...
"I... I am... carrying a little baby. Only nine weeks old... and I am afraid that something bad could happen during the fight..." Kuvira continued but it had no results... her heart was breaking because there was no way how Kuvira could help her baby by herself...
"I wouldn't be asking for help if I hadn't have a feeling it's needed..." now it was barely a whisper... Kuvira looked at the floor and breathed out. She realized Korra won't help her... "Please..." Kuvira tried for the last time and her eyes got wider when Korra moved a bit... Kuvira felt hope but Korra instead of saying a word... just turned her head on the other side so she was now facing the wall...
No... There won't be any help...Kuvira felt a wave of a feeling she was not really able to describes yet... and she was sad...
Kuvira sighed and wiped her tear with her sleeve right before Tonraq came back in. "Oh captain...We are here. The White Lotus airship is waiting." he said and Kuvira turned at him with professional face expression. She nodded and looked at Korra for the last time... She grabbed the bandages and headed out of her cabin.
She was desperate. Kuvira didn't know what to do. She had to hope the baby wasn't hurt and was safe... "Maybe there is a healer on the White Lotus airship" Kuvira thought for herself...
When the airship landed, airbenders went to the second airship and two White Lotus guards carried Korra on board. Suyin decided to go to Republic City with Korra and others so it meant the Metal Clan soldiers will be returning to Zaofu on their own...
Later, Kuvira was standing nervously between two airships and watched airbenders boarding. It was late afternoon now and the sun, still covered with clouds, was slowly setting down...
When Suyin was out of Kuvira's sight, she quickly went closer to one White Lotus guard...
"Excuse me..." Kuvira said quietly and guard looked at her. "Do you have a water healer on board?" she asked and didn't want to sound too desperate...
The guard now had disapointed face expression. "I am sorry... there's no waterbender on board, captain Kuvira. We don't have a water healer in our Yai White Lotus unit... " the guard said and Kuvira's heartbeat was fast again... "but our medics could maybe help..." she added but Kuvira knew that they couldn't help her... She needed someone who is bending chi to check the baby... and only waterbenders could feel such a small fetus...
Kuvira still thanked the guard and then watched the White Lotus airship take off. They were heading to the Republic City and Kuvira couldn't wait to be back at Zaofu... To be back at Baatar's strong arms... She was so exhausted and hungry as well... It was too much for her already... She wanted to go home...
When Kuvira got back on the Metal Clan airship, Lia went closer to her. "You should have some rest Kuvira... I will watch over everyone." Lia said and put her hand on Kuvira's shoulder.
Kuvira thought about Lia's words for a while and normaly she would protest but now... it was the only thing Kuvira could do for the baby. To have some rest and calm down a bit... If something was really wrong with the baby, stress wouldn't be helping at all...
"Okay...just for a little while." Kuvira said quietly and headed to the room where Korra was sleeping before... She closed the door behind her and sat down on the small bed. Kuvira sighed and took off her armor again. Both of her hands landed on her bump...
"We are going home little bump..." Kuvira whispered and knew that it will be three more hours before they'll get to Zaofu...
She managed to eat a small cookie and laid down on her left side because her right side was still sore from the fall after explosion. Her arm was protectively wrapped around her waist and Kuvira was trying to calm down her breathing. She didn't want to feel that sharp pain in her lower back as well ...
Kuvira was thinking about Baatar now... She knew she has to tell him immediately when she'll get a chance... She couldn't wait any longer... Maybe they could go on their little trip tomorrow...
Kuvira tried to rest as much as she could but pain in her lower back and hip was still there... and other thing was that Kuvira started to have a headache and felt like she's having a fever...
Her hand never left her stomach and baby's quiet heartbeat was the only thing which was giving Kuvira strength now... She was so tired after all night and day...
Zaofu, the Airship Station, late night
It was already 9 p.m. and Zaofu Airship Station was really busy...
When the Beifongs' found out that Suyin and Opal are heading to Republic City together with the avatar... Baatar Senior immediately decided to travel there as well.
It was really quick decision and Wing and Wei decided to join him. Baatar knew he was expected to go with them but he said he would wait in Zaofu just in case something happen... and Huan stayed too.
Baatar's mother and Opal will have company of his father and brothers but Baatar wanted to wait for Kuvira... He didn't want her to be alone when guards return...
The battle was apparently really serious and there were seriously injured as well. Baatar prayed Kuvira stayed safe... His sixth sense kept saying him that he overlooked something.
Something important...
In the evening when the airship of his father was about to take off, Baatar decided to walk them to the Airship Station. Boarding was quick but Baatar didn't pay much attention to it...
He was watching the sky and his heart was beating fastly. Baatar was focusing on totally different airship. The one which should arrive in a few hours...
It was slowly getting dark again and cold wind coming from the Zaofu Mountains was getting stronger...
Baatar waved at his father and brothers for the last time and watched their airship getting smaller and smaller. Baatar knew the guards are suspicious why he is still waiting on the Airship Station but Baatar didn't care. He wanted to be there when Kuvira returns and nothing could change that... He didn't care about curious guards on a night watch...
Later... it was already 11 p.m. and Baatar was watching the stars... They were so beautiful and with the domes opened... The moonlight was covering every place at Zaofu even tho clouds were still there. It got really cold as well...
The red lights were marking the airship station platforms and Baatar was glad he took on his extra dark green jacket.
A few moments later, quiet of the station was disturbed by one guard radioing to other one. The airship had to be close... Baatar looked up to the sky and saw small red lights on the horizon... Kuvira was coming back...
The sound of airship engines was getting louder as it was getting closer. Guards on the platform were preparing for landing and Baatar felt shivers down his spine when he saw a group of medics coming out of the elevator...
"Oh no..." Baatar thought for himself and his hands started shaking. Pictures of injured Kuvira filled up Baatar's mind and his heart was racing... He begged the spirits... Kuvira had to be alright...
Baatar knew Kuvira always fights till she can. She wouldn't let others fight for her and she would never let her guards or anyone else down. It was one of many reasons why Baatar fell in love with her... her selflessness... But right now, he was really worried it could harm her.
When the airship landed on the platform, Baatar immediately ran closer. He was looking at the airship door and then saw group of three medics going closer to it. The airship's engines stopped working and the door started opening...
Baatar thought he forgot how to breath...
Medics ran inside and after a while... they carried an older guard out. His name was Kai... Baatar remembered him. He was an adept to became a captain but Kuvira have won...
His head was covered with bandages and his arms as well... Baatar immediately knew it was P'Li's work... He was glad the Red Lotus was destroyed...
Other guards started walking out of the airship and Baatar was still nervously waiting... The wind got much stronger and it started to rain again... Five guards were already out... Kuvira was the sixth one and the last one on board...
...
Kuvira woke up shortly before landing. She wasn't sure if she was sleeping at all but she was trying to rest as much as possible. Her body was really sore and Kuvira was exhausted like never before...
When she stood up, her back was protesting and every movement required too much energy. The baby's heartbeat was stable and Kuvira couldn't wait to finally get home...
Kuvira was the last one leaving the airship and when she got closer to the door she felt cold wind and she started shaking. All the adrenalin was gone and Kuvira's hurt hip started to aeche even more...
The first thing Kuvira saw was red lights everywhere at the airship station. Medics were leaving with Kai and other guards to the platform elevator and Kuvira kept standing on her place. Someone caught her eye and she felt a wave of happiness. Baatar...
Kuvira saw relief on his face and was happy he's waiting for her. She quickly walked down stairs and saw sparks in his light green eyes. Then, Baatar and Kuvira shared the biggest, warmest hug...
It was amazing feeling for Kuvira to be in Baatar's arms again and Baatar was glad Kuvira was safe and home.
"Kuvira... I was so worried about you..." Baatar whispered to her ear and Kuvira tightened her hug even more...
"I missed you so much Baatar..." she whispered back and enjoyed warmth and closeness of his body. No more words were needed. Their gestures were saying everything. Baatar and Kuvira were together again and Kuvira felt happiness when she realized someone was waiting for her... She has someone who is caring about her...
When Baatar took Kuvira's hand to his, it was really cold and he immediately took off his jacket and put it over Kuvira's shoulders. She would protest normaly, but right now she felt really cold and she knew the baby needs warmth as well. She smiled softly and thanked Baatar. He put a kiss on her forhead in return. Then they shared a bear hug again and Kuvira finally felt relaxed.
Kuvira also felt blessed. All three of them could be together again. Kuvira, Baatar and their little one who is growing inside of her...
Kuvira was exhausted like never before but the thought of her loved ones was giving her strength... She was at home and their little baby was safe here...
The fight was over and Kuvira thought that the bright future is now waiting for her little family...
Sooo that was a new chapter...Kuvira tried to reach for Korra's help but unfortunately...nothing happend. What do you think about it?
Stay tuned for next chapters and don't forget to write rewievs. I am so thankful for every reader. Thank you so much to all of you.
