Zaofu, the Guards' Residence, two days later

It was late afternoon and nice sunny weather still didn't return back to Zaofu. The sky was grey and cloudy and cold wind was coming from the mountains.

It's been two days since Kuvira and Baatar visited the grave and Kuvira was now back at her apartment even though Baatar didn't like the idea of her being there alone.

She was sitting on the edge of the bed in her dark green bathrobe and her long black hair was down. Kuvira held her knees close to her body and goosebumps from cold were on her pale skin. The window was open and the wind was moving wildly with the curtains...

Kuvira was looking out of the window and watched the rain falling down... She felt cold wind in her hair and sometimes, little raindrops landed on her skin. The sky was crying... and so was Kuvira herself...

She was thinking about everything that happened lately... she was thinking about the baby, about Baatar, about the huge fight they had yeasterday... and even though Kuvira didn't want to admit it to herself, she was also thinking about her own mother...

How naive Kuvira was to think she could have her own loving family. How naive it was to think she could be lucky and happy...

Her mother was always saying it was due to the birthmark under her eye... It looked like a tear... Person with this birthmark is destined for a life full of suffering... Her parents thought Kuvira was a cursed child...

Kuvira sobbed and covered her face with her hands. She felt so cold but she couldn't find strength to close the window... She laid down on her side and was in the fetus position...

Her baby was gone... she had a fight with Baatar and was so alone again... The fact that blood was coming out of her body which was still full of pregnancy hormones didn't make it easier at all...

Kuvira never wanted children, she never wanted to become a mother, she almost got rid of her own baby... and now... when Kuvira wanted to be the best mother she could be for hers and Baatar's little one... the baby was gone forever...

Kuvira sobbed and closed her eyes. She wanted Baatar back so badly... She wished he would held her thightly and she could feel his closeness again... but her apartment was emty. Kuvira regreted her yeasterday's words so much... Baatar didn't deserve any of this. Kuvira was heartbroken because she hurt the only person who is truly loving her... She grabbed one pillow and held it tightly to her chest while crying.

She was destined to suffer... It was written in her destiny long before she was even born.

Kuvira was thinking all the time about what she could do differently to avoid all of these sad things...And the only result of her equation was to decide not to help the Avatar... If she hadn't fight P'li on her own... her precious little baby would have been still alive and Baatar would be there too. Kuvira felt anger and sadness. She felt betrayed.

Kuvira held the pillow tighter and the memory of yesterday's fight with Baatar occured in her mind again... She was afraid she lost him too... and it was all her fault.

...

Flashback, yesterday morning, the Beifongs' Residence

During the night, Baatar and Kuvira spend a long time by the grave. They weren't talking much... there was nothing to say... They sat on the grass in silence and held hands... Kuvira was in her pyjama and had Baatar's dark green coat on. It was too big for her and long sleeves were covering her hands... Baatar was out in the gardens just in his casual clothes.

The last sentence Kuvira said was: "I wish I could go back in time... I wish I could protect our little one... I wish I 've never tried to save the Avatar..."

Since that time, Kuvira didn't say a single word. Baatar put his hand around her shoulders. He felt tension in Kuvira's body but she still put her head on his shoulder.

Baatar could feel anger in Kuvira. It was like something inside of her changed. Even her hands weren't shaking anymore... She wanted revenge.

Kuvira was taking deep breaths and the look on little one's grave made her anger grow even more... Why her and Baatar? Kuvira was asking in her mind... What have they done to deserve this? Kuvira felt like the destiny stands against her again.

She felt rage... and pain. "Baatar... I can't be there anymore... " Kuvira said strictly out of nowhere and quickly stood up. She felt the wave of pain in return.

"What?" Baatar said while being confused. Kuvira quietly moaned in pain and wrapped her arms around her belly.

"I can't be there and just look at the baby's grave..." Kuvira explained and Baatar stood up as well. "This shouldn't have happened! Our baby was perfectly healthy but now... everything is gone... " Kuvira wasn't crying. Baatar was now seeing pure rage on her face.

Baatar understood how Kuvira was feeling. He felt that rage and sadness too and he also knew it wasn't the nature's plan to take the baby away from them. There are people responsible for everything that happened... But right now, Kuvira's health was the only thing on Baatar's mind. All that rage was causing Kuvira even more pain and Baatar was worried her state will get worse. She hadn't ate in days and was still bleeding...

"Kuvira wait!" Baatar said and gently put his hands on her shoulders. "I know you feel sad and angry but you are hurting yourself..." he added with worries.

Kuvira looked down and walked away. She didn't want to feel Baatar's touch right now... "I don't care if I am hurting myself! Nothing will return life to our child!" Kuvira felt waves of anger inside of her...

Baatar was sad when Kuvira wanted to be far from him. She looked like something happened in her mind. "Kuvira..." Baatar said and tried to reach her with his hand. But Kuvira didn't like it...

"No. Don't touch me, Baatar!" she said loudly and turned around. Baatar was worried. He understood Kuvira wants to have some alone time but she looked like being out of her mind. "I want to go home..." Kuvira gasped and went back to the Residence while powered by anger.

Baatar followed her to his bedroom and saw how she's taking off his jacket which he gave her. It was visible that Kuvira is in pain but she started quickly picking up all her clothes.

"Wait... I will help you..." Baatar said and hoped he won't upset Kuvira even more. She didn't say a word... but Baatar took it as agreement and started putting Kuvira's clothes to one of his bags.

When they finished packing, Kuvira took on her dark green sweater and wanted to take the bag from Baatar... but he didn't gave it to her.

"Baatar give me that bag!" she said strictly. Baatar saw how pale she bacame in just a few minutes and stepped away.

"No. I will walk you home. Wether you like it or not." he responded in strict tone but was still worried about her. Baatar saw that Kuvira doesn't have enough strength to fight him back. She looked away and walked out of Baatar's bedroom. He followed her immediately.

Kuvira's seeing was blurry but she insisted on walking without support. She struggled to keep balance but they somehow made it to the gardens...

Baatar walked a few steps behind Kuvira and wondered what was happening inside of her mind right now. That sudden change. She was not herself...

When they headed to the City Center, Zaofu was covered with darkness as it was already 2 a.m... The wind outside was strong and cold and Baatar was glad that the dome above the City Center is closed...

When they arrived to the Central Square, Kuvira couldn't catch breath. She was so tired... her mind was still cloudy and strong headache appeared as well...

Kuvira went closer to the fountain and tightened her grip on it's edge with one hand, her second hand was placed on her stomach... She was taking deep breaths and Baatar couldn't hold himself anymore...

"Kuvira please... let me help you..." Baatar said quietly and tried to go closer to her... but she quickly looked at him and Baatar saw that her eyes are different. It seemed foggy...

"No..." she gasped and ran away. She was completly without energy. Baatar gave her a sad glance. Kuvira was fighting her own psychological battle right now... but seemed to be loosing...

Kuvira felt so much sadness and anger. She was still asking... Why them? Why their innocent baby? Why her family...

Kuvira felt agression in her veins and was ready to fight the enemy who was not around... P'li? Zaheer? Suyin? Korra? She hated all of them. They were responsible...

The Central Square was too dark for Kuvira... Most of the lights were off and she felt lost. Kuvira heard Baatar running after her and she decided to hide in the near by street...

When Kuvira got there, she saw warm light coming out of one shopping window... Kuvira walked closer and adrenalin seemed to stop covering her pain... Kuvira's legs were heavy but they still carried her closer to the shopping window...

Kuvira sighed and looked inside... tears started running down her face... She wrapped her arms around her painful empty womb and was now sobbing loudly...She knew this place very well...

Baatar finally reached Kuvira and rushed closer to her. It broke his heart to see her weeping like this... Her voice was so different and full of pain...

When Baatar tried to find out what made Kuvira so sad... He looked at the shopping window and the wave of sadness ran through his body too.

There was a dark green baby stroller inside of the shopping window...

Baatar sighed and slowly looked at Kuvira. She was walking towards the shopping window...

Kuvira couldn't take her eyes from that beautiful stroller... It was supposed to belong to her little one... She promised her baby to have it when she was returning from her watch days ago... but now... It will belong to another child...

Kuvira put one of her hands on the cold glass while the second one stayed on her belly... Kuvira then quietly whispered...

"It was supposed to be our baby's stroller..."

Kuvira couldn't hold it anymore... The picture of the baby's grave occured in her mind again and tears ran down her face as she suddenly saw darkness...

Baatar saw Kuvira is fainting and managed to catch her in the last moment... She was so tired and her skin so cold... Baatar held her tightly and gave her his own coat as a blanket. Baatar looked at the stroller once more and... he imagined himself and Kuvira on the walk... the baby would be sleeping calmly inside of the stroller and they would be smiling together ... It was such a nice imagination...

But then, sad reality hit him hard...

Baatar knew he has to get Kuvira out of here... and himself too...

Baatar carefully picked Kuvira up and carried her to the Guards' Residence in bride style. She was like a feather... Baatar really wanted to call the doctor but he gave Kuvira a promise he won't do it...

He entered the Residence using back entrance and carried Kuvira upstairs to her apartment... Baatar prayed she will get better soon...

When they got upstairs, Baatar felt how Kuvira is shaking. They got to her apartment and Baatar quickly put Kuvira to bed and covered her with duvets... She groaned in pain in return...

Baatar sat down on the edge of the bed for a while and held Kuvira's hand. He was so sad and broken...seeing his beloved Kuvira in pains and being haunted by her own mind... It was too much for her to bear... And tonight, her mind gave up...

"I love you Kuvira..."Baatar whispered and kissed Kuvira's hand. It was so cold. Baatar was warming her hands for a while with his own and then slowly stood up. He headed to the kitchen to make tea for Kuvira.

While the water was boiling, Baatar thought about Kuvira's sudden mood change... Out of nowhere Kuvira wasn't herself. It was like something changed in her mind, in her brain...

Baatar's thoughts were disturbed by loud teapot sounds and he quickly prepared a cup. He decided to not to use mint tea this time... Kuvira probably had many morning sickness memories with it...

Kuvira started waking up when Baatar put the teacup on the night table next to her bed and watched him closely. She saw how sad and tired Baatar was... How it's all her fault...

"Baatar..." Kuvira whispered and there was still emptiness in her eyes when Baatar looked in them. After a few seconds of quiet, Kuvira added "go home..." Then she turned her head away.

Baatar was confused and felt pain. Did he heard correctly? Kuvira didn't want him around...Did I make something wrong? He was asking himself sadly...He still had to give Kuvira her medicine and being alone in her state was dangerous...

"Kuvira... don't push me away... please" Baatar said and tried to caress her arm but she turned away...

"No Baatar! I want to be alone!" Kuvira yelled and Baatar couldn't hide his shock and sadness. He sighed and looked down...

Kuvira was looking out of the window and felt the mattress move as Baatar stood up. She was so tired of everything...

"If that's what you want...but please promise me you will rest." Baatar said and saw how Kuvira nodded a bit in response without even looking at him. Baatar then looked at the teacup on the night table and hoped Kuvira will at least drink that tea...

"I will come back in the morning to visit you..." he said quietly and slowly walked out of the bedroom. "and I also need to give you another injection... to avoid infection..." he added and took on his coat. Kuvira didn't say a word and was still looking out of the window... It was already 3 a.m...

Baatar unwillingly walked out of Kuvira's apartment and sighed. He didn't want to leave Kuvira here on her own. She needed to recover... but If she felt like having some alone time will help her, Baatar respected it... He slowly headed back to the Beifongs' Gardens and sat by the grave till dawn... Baatar wasn't able to return to his bedroom where everything happened...

...

Kuvira tightened duvets around herself and her heart was beating fastly... The storm of thoughts in her head was haunting her all the time...

Now when she was finally alone... She burried her face in the pillow. Kuvira didn't want to hear her own sobbing anymore... Everything in her apartment was reminding her of the little one so much...Kuvira knew she won't be able to fall asleep...

...

It was six in the morning when Kuvira gave up on laying in bed. The tea which Baatar prepared for her stayed cold and untouched...

Kuvira was watching the ceiling without any emotion in her mind. She felt pure emptiness... but her heart was racing... She slowly sat up and saw her uniform laying on the floor... The guards... She realized she wasn't working for four days already...

The wave of realization hit Kuvira and she quickly stood up. Her body was protesting but Kuvira's mind was leading her... She had to be at work...

Kuvira felt headache and cramps while getting ready but she couldn't just lay in bed anymore. She was angry at herself because being so weak even though she had a miscarriage... She was always so strong and independent... Right now she was not herself at all...

When she saw her reflection in the mirror, she couldn't recognize herself. Kuvira's baby bump was gone... she was just an empty shell with dark circles under eyes and pale skin. Kuvira was disgusted by her appearance... She was so angry that Baatar saw her like this...

Kuvira took a deep breath and adrenalin in her blood made her ignore all the pain. Nobody could know what happened to her... That she lost the baby a few days ago. She just had to go to work and act like she's strong captain as always... She couldn't be weak anymore... She couldn't rest as Baatar wanted her to...

Fully in her uniform, Kuvira went downstairs to her office. She held the handrail tightly and was taking deep breaths. She was barely using make-up but today she was hiding her really tired face behind it.

Her headache was getting worse but Kuvira entered her captain office with all of her strength...She had to work again... same as other guards had to...

...

Kuvira spend all morning by trying to organise guards' schedules and tears ran down her face when she was writing operation report from Laghima's Peak...

She realized her baby was the only victim on their side... Kuvira covered her face and tried to stay focused but it was hard. She felt anger when the ink on the report was destroyed by her tears...

Kuvira threw papers to the bin and sighed. She tightened grip on her working table and was taking deep breaths... She was still asking... Why did that had to happen to her...

The office was filled with sounds of her sobbing and Kuvira felt the wave of fear when she heard knocking.

"Kuvira you have to pull yourself together..." she said to herself and quickly wiped her tears with her sleeve. She had to be professional.

"Who is it?" she asked and hoped her voice sounds strong as always.

"It's Lia." Kuvira took a deep breath and let the guard enter.

"What do you want?" Kuvira asked when Lia was walking towards her working table.

"I am not here because of work." she said and Kuvira's eyes got wider. Does Lia know something? Kuvira was worried but let her continue. "You weren't on the dance practice yeasterday... Is everything alright? I remember you suffered with back pain when we were returning from Laghima Peak... " Lia added and Kuvira's heart was hurt again. She wished it was just a back pain...She had to change her sadness and fear into a different emotion before Lia realizes something is wrong with her...

"Everything is alright." Kuvira lied and frowned. "I had plenty of work these days and if I am not mistsken you should be on the watch right now. So don't waste my time Lia..." she said strictly with authority in her voice. Kuvira wanted her to leave...

Lia seemed to be shocked but respected captain's order. She quickly left Kuvira's office and closed the door behind herself... Kuvira immediately sat down again and put her hand on her belly as she felt another cramp. She covered her face with her second hand.

Kuvira sighed and closed her eyes. She felt so tired... She felt angry that everyone was always so happy and lucky but Kuvira never got something for free. She always had to work hard to achieve everything in her life... and now... she felt like spirits punished her for no reason...

Kuvira felt so much anger that when the door of her office opened again, she immediately started yelling. "Who dares to enter captain's office without knocking?!" she looked in the direction of the door and her heart jumped when she saw angry Baatar standing there.

"What are you doing here Kuvira?" Baatar asked strictly and worries which he felt when he found Kuvira's apartment empty were still in his blood.

"I am working..." Kuvira replied and stood up while still holding onto her table. "and what are you doing here?! Someone will see you there Baatar!" Kuvira added but Baatar didn't seem to listen.

"I thought something bad happened to you when I didn't find you at your apartment. You promised me you will stay in bed!" Baatar said but it somehow made Kuvira even more angry.

"I can't just lay in bed Baatar... I can't be so weak anymore! I need to do my job!" Kuvira argued and Baatar walked towards her.

"Kuvira... you are barely standing and I can say you have to suffer with terrible pains...Don't you see you are hurting yourself!" Baatar replied strictly and Kuvira saw dissapointment in his eyes.

"I don't care about pain Baatar! My crying won't help anyone and I have to be a strong captain wether you like it or not!" Kuvira fought him back and felt rage.

Baatar frowned and said "And what are you trying to prove Kuvira? I know you are strong captain and guards know it too! I am just trying to help you... When will you finally see that some people really care about you!"

"Nobody cared about me when I was begging for help on the airship!" tears started forming in Kuvira's eyes but she held them inside.

Baatar was quiet for a while and could feel pain in Kuvira's voice. "Kuvira please then do it for me...I can't look at you hurting yourself even more... Please... I care about you!" Baatar begged Kuvira but her answer shocked him...

"Then don't!" Kuvira yelled sadly and turned away.

"What?" Baatar whispered as he saw Kuvira is shaking again. His heart was hurt really hard. He decided to convince her other way. Baatar took a deep breath and carefuly said: "Well if you don't want to heal because of me... then do it for our little one... What do you think our child would think when seeing how mommy doesn't want to recover and is hurting herself even more..." These words were too much for Kuvira to bear and it broke her. She lost it...

"Get out! Get out!" Kuvira quickly turned at him and started yelling hysterically. "Get out!" she was crying and threw her helmet from the table at Baatar. She didn't care wether other guards will hear them...

Baatar was hit by a helmet and immediately regreted his words. He didn't want to upset Kuvira so much. "Kuvira... I... I am sorry.. I didn't want to-" but before he could finish the sentence Kuvira started yelling again. "Get out!"

She saw worried Baatar leaving her office and locked the door with her metalbending. Kuvira fell on the floor and started sobbing loudly. She could barely breath as Baatar's words broke her spirit even more...

Kuvira laid on her back and covered her face. "What have I done..." Kuvira's voice cracked as she was asking herself while crying. She hurt the only person she loves...

...

Baatar somehow got to the Central Square and his heart was beating fastly. He was still shocked and sad. If somebody would be talking to him right now, he wouldn't be able to listen at all...

When he found out Kuvira's apartment is empty earlier that day, Baatar was so scared. He thought something bad happened or that Kuvira did something to herself... Baatar couldn't live with imagination of loosing her...

Their lives turned upside down... Baatar wondered if this was going to be the end of their relationship... Kuvira didn't want to see him and fell into deep depression. Baatar took off his glasses and massaged his face. He didn't know what to do... He wanted to help Kuvira so much but she didn't want his help. She didn't even want Baatar around.

Little bleeding wound was on Baatar's arm as Kuvira threw her helmet on him but Baatar ignored it. He wasn't feeling it...

Baatar regreted his words... using their baby to convince Kuvira was not fair... It was so painfull for both of them.

"I wish I would know how to help you... but I don't know it..." Baatar whispered quietly and looked up to the sky. To the grey sky... This can't be the end...can it?

...

Later that day, the Beifongs' Residence

It was already afternoon when Baatar got back to the Beifongs Residence and his sad face was perfectly portraying his feelings. He was like a ghost.

Baatar's heart was beating fastly and fatigue which he felt was enormous. Thousands of thoughts were running in his brain but sadness made them all foggy.

This last few days were like the worst nightmare. Baatar wanted to be with Kuvira and held her in his arms... but he was afraid she doesn't want anything of this anymore...

When Baatar slowly entered the Residence, something was different. All the loud noises coming from the dining room could mean only one thing. Baatar's family returned from Republic City...

Baatar took a deep breath and wanted to avoid them at least for now. He didn't want them to see him, but he failed. Twins ran towards him immediately after he got to the main hallway. Baatar put on fake smile and greeted his siblings. After asking where Opal was, Baatar Senior interrupted their conversation.

"Hello Junior." he said and went closer to his oldest son. He spotted something was going on...

"Hello dad..." Baatar replied quietly and looked his father in the eyes. "Dad... I -..." Baatar felt like talking with his father would maybe help him calm down and put some weight off his shoulders... but before he could ask his father to talk in private, his mother walked out of the dining room and interrupted them.

"Oh. Here you are Junior! Huan told us you were in the City Center..." Suyin said with wide smile and the wave of nervousness ran through Baatar's body when he realized Huan was at home all the time. Baatar prayed he didn't saw or heard something...

"Hi mom..." Baatar said and was trying to sound happy but it didn't really work. "Is Opal here too?" he added.

Baatar Senior wanted to say something but Suyin started talking first. "Don't even talk about it Junior... I hoped she would return home after everything that happened but your sister insisted on staying in Republic City...I was strictly against it but your father convinced me."

"Maybe she's happy there..." Baatar said but his mother rolled her eyes.

"That is nonsesnse, Junior. Where else she could be happy than here in Zaofu with her family." his mother said but Baatar frowned. His mother was doing it again. She always knew what was "best" for everyone.

"Opal can be more herself in Republic City. Maybe she's now happier than here in Zaofu. She doesn't have to be locked all the time." Baatar said and his mother gave him a strict glance.

"Junior! I don't want to hear this anymore... I am sure this is not the case..." his mother said and turned away. Baatar's father followed her as she was saying she can't wait to finally have a bath after such a long journey.

Baatar stayed in the hallway and watched his family leave. His mother didn't even ask him if everything is alright... She didn't even ask about Kuvira or other guards... Doesn't she know they were injured? Her biggest problem was that Opal decided about her future herself...

Baatar sighed and slowly headed to his laboratory. He couldn't go back to his bedroom. Not after everything that happened.

When Baatar got to the laboratory, he sat down to his table and took off his glasses. He couldn't stop thinking about Kuvira. What if something happens to her? Baatar knew she's a strong woman but she's not a machine. She's also very fragille but doesn't allow anyone to see it... Baatar covered his face with his arms and begged spirits to help his beloved Kuvira... She has to recover...

After a while, Baatar opened the first drawer and took the newspaper with Kuvira's photograph out of it. He wished he could go back to that happy times... Baatar caressed Kuvira's cheek with his fingers and somehow hoped Kuvira can feel it... even though it was just her photograph...

Baatar was sitting at his laboratory for a long time and he was studying his books about medicine and anatomy... but unfortunately there wasn't much information about stress and anxiety after miscarriage... or more specifically it's treatment.

Kuvira had to be suffering and Baatar was desperate because he didn't know how to help her. It seemed he made things even worse...

Heavy rain started falling again and Baatar looked out of the window. The City Center was covered in fog... as well as his thoughts... he wasn't able to think properly.

Baatar felt so tired after everything that happened... He was awake all the time since Kuvira had returned and his body couldn't take it anymore...Baatar's eyes were closing against his will. He didn't want to sleep but his body couldn't work anymore. Kuvira's photograph was now blurry and Baatar had a headache.

His head hit the table as he saw sudden darkness. Baatar fainted from being four days without sleep...

Baatar and Kuvira hit their lowest points... It seemed like nothing will ever be the same like before...

End of flashback

...

Zaofu, back in the Guards' Residence, the next day

Kuvira was still laying in bed and was hugging the pillow tightly. Yeasterday after their fight, Kuvira closed her office immediately and headed back to her apartment... She was so sad and broken.

Baatar was the only one in her mind all day and all night. She felt so bad for yelling at him and putting all her rage and guilt at him...

Baatar haven't done anything to deserve it... Kuvira knew it. She was angry at herself... Yeasterday, when he called her a mommy... It made Kuvira so sad and angry but today, Kuvira was proud to be one... Even though her baby is not here anymore, she's still a mom...

Kuvira looked out of the window and thought she was crazy... but she started talking to the clouds... "I... I am so sorry for yelling at your daddy yeasterday... He means so much for me and I hurt him... I am so sorry." Kuvira's voice cracked. "I love him... Please forgive me... " she added quietly.

It suddenly stopped raining and Kuvira took a deep breath. She couldn't let her anger create a rift between them...

Kuvira wiped her tears with her sleeve and picked up all her strength. It was always so hard for her to admit that she did something wrong... But Baatar was more important for her... he is her only family and Kuvira wanted him to know how much she loves him...

She slowly stood up and tightened her bathrobe around her slim tired body. Kuvira walked to the living room and went straight to the telephone...

She had to have very important phone call...

...

The Beifongs Residence, a few moments earlier

It was early afternoon, when the door of Baatar's laboratory got widely open and Suyin quickly walked in.

Baatar immediately woke up and saw his mother walking towards him. He quickly covered Kuvira's photograph with technical drawing and looked back at his mother...

"What are you doing Junior!?" Suyin said strictly and looked at her son with dissapointment in her eyes... but Baatar didn't care...

"I was working..." he responded under his breath but his mother was unhappy with his answer.

"You didn't join us at welcoming dinner yeasterday!" Suyin said and was now standing in front of Baatar's working table... She took a deep breath and observed her son...

"Junior are you going to explain it to me?!" she said and Baatar looked at her. His mother acted like he was still a little child...

"I was working and then fell asleep. It wasn't on purpose." he said under his breath. "And I am old enough to decide about what I want to do myself!" Baatar responded strictly and Suyin acted hurt. Baatar was tired of how his mother was always trying to control everyone. His brothers... his sister... even his father...

"I don't like your tone, Junior!" Suyin argued but Baatar didn't make a single move... "I know you are upset because your project in Yu Dao was cancelled but right now when Opal is finally safe and your family is back... You should behave differently than you do."

Baatar was lost in his thoughts. His mother thought it was all about his project... Typical... She didn't even asked what is going on... She always spend more time with Huan and twins because they were benders... and Opal was her only daughter... Junior was always only like his father...

Baatar wanted to fight his mother back but suddenly the telephone started ringing in his laboratory. The wave of hope ran through Baatar's body. He wanted to pick up the telephone... but before he could... Suyin did it herself...

"Halo? It's Suyin Beifong. Who's there..." she said and Baatar was angry that his mother just picked up the telephone without even asking. The expression on her face was strict when she hang up a few seconds later. "Nobody's answering..."

"It was my call." Baatar said and his mother didn't seem to listen.

"Junior... lunch is in an hour I hope I will see you there. No more excuses!" Suyin said and Baatar didn't have enough energy to fight his mother... Not now... When she was about to leave, the telephone started ringing again.

Suyin picked it up again and said: "Who's there!" her tone was angry. After a few seconds of quiet she hang up again. "Some children are probably making fun of us and are calling everyone..." Suyin said under her breath while angrily leaving Baatar's laboratory and keeping the door open...

Baatar watched his mother leave and then looked at the telephone. He thought about what his mother have said. These two calls... Nobody was answering... Baatar looked at Kuvira's photograph again and then he realized it... Kuvira...

It might was her. She had to be afraid to talk when Suyin picked up the telephone... Baatar couldn't take his eyes from the telephone and froze on one place...

It was barely a minute when the telephone started ringing again. Baatar slowly picked it up but didn't say a word. He was listening carefuly but it was quiet on the other side...

When Baatar was about to hang up, he heard the most unique and beautiful voice whisper his name...

"Baatar...It's me... " Kuvira said quietly and Baatar knew she had to be crying a few minutes ago. "I don't know if you can hear me... but... I want to tell you that... I am sorry for what I've said yeasterday..." she sobbed and Baatar took a deep breath. "You mean so much for me... and... I miss you so much..." she was almost crying again but Baatar felt he can't interrupt her now. "I love you..." it was barely a whisper and then Baatar heard how she hang up the telephone again...

Baatar was speechless. Kuvira rarely show her feelings with words and this was so heart touching... Baatar needed to see her, to be with her ... He quickly stood up and ran outside of his laboratory. He didn't care about what his mother told him... Right know... he had to head exactly where his destiny wanted him to be and where he's needed...

He ran as fastly as he could. When Baatar got to the Guards' Residence him and Kuvira forgot about their fight and immediately fell into each others arms in the doorway ...

Kuvira hided her face in Baatar's t-shirt and held him as tightly as she could. Baatar rested his chin on Kuvira's head and was gently caressing her back...

After a while, Kuvira picked up her courage and said: "Baatar... I feel really bad for putting all my anger at you..." she took a deep breath and the hardest words for her pride came out of her... "I am so sorry..."

Baatar looked in her eyes and knew that it was always hard for Kuvira, maybe even impossible to admit a mistake... Her saying all of this meant a lot... They were hugging in quiet for a long time and then Baatar said: "I should apologize too... I should know that you need some time alone..."

"No Baatar. You didn't do anything wrong... I am lucky you care about me..." she said and closed her eyes. Baatar put a soft kiss on Kuvira's forhead and she kissed his lips in return. "I love you Baatar...I am sorry I am not saying it more often... " Kuvira whispered and put her head on his shoulder.

"I love you Kuvira..." Baatar whispered back as warm afternoon sunlight was casting trough the window for the first time in many days... Baatar and Kuvira were standing in the center of the living room and held each other lovingly. They were together again... Just like they always meant to be...

...

Afternoon turned into evening and Baatar with Kuvira spend all that time in her apartment. Baatar gave Kuvira her medicine and was glad that Kuvira finally ate a small bowl of soup. She also agreed to take two more days off work...

Later, when the stars were high up on the sky... Kuvira fell asleep in Baatar's arms as they were laying in bed. Baatar was guarding her sleep and holding her tightly...Kuvira always looked much softer when she was asleep... her strict face expression was gone and was replaced with face of an angel...

Baatar softly kissed Kuvira's temple and thought about his family... He knew his mother will be angry that he's not at home...Baatar loved his family so much and he didn't want to hurt their feelings... but now, Kuvira was his family too... and she needed him more than his siblings or parents... because Kuvira didn't have anyone else who truly cares for her...

"I'll always be there for you..." Baatar whispered to Kuvira's ear and covered them both with duvets. She cuddled closer in return...

...

Little did Baatar know that at the same time, his mother found out his own bed in the Beifongs' Residence is cold and empty... Suyin looked out of the window and felt angry that her son is secretly sneaking out at night behind her back. She couldn't stand a thought that her son is keeping secrets from her...
