Oddly enough there are still people following this. So I guess I should update for you. Inspiration for this particular fic is waning. Most of my ideas come from watching my kids. So if something strikes me I come up with a story. So this one is when Six and Holiday's kids are young.
I'm sure they're not easy to raise.
I do not own this.
Holiday gripped Six's arm. "Six." To anyone else it would look like Holiday was pretty calm. But Six knew his wife's tone. She was in a near panic.
Six followed her gaze up.
"Jade Maisy Holiday, what are you doing?" He called up in a stern tone.
"Climbing." She answered as she clung to a pole three story from the ground.
They were on a family vacation and 7-year old Kenji wanted to try the ropes course. The employees at the ropes course had deemed 4-year old Jade just a tad too young to join her older brother. Jade sulked but sat on the bench next to her twin who had no interest in climbing the ropes.
So Jade enviously watched as Kenji was harnessed and allowed to start the course. She watched him do the zip line and walk across a thin rope bridge. She glanced at her parents and realized that they were distracted with watching Kenji. Then she looked over at the proprietors of the ropes course. They were busy harnessing other clients or helping their customers. No one was looking. Jasmine was too busy playing a game on her tablet, something about matching amino acids… boring.
She snuck up to the back of the ropes course where she would least likely be seen. She stared at the configuration. They had built it so that no one could grab the ropes from the ground. But the ropes were anchored to poles and poles were stuck fast on the ground. Jade kicked off her shoes and rolled up her socks. She grabbed a pole and started to climb up the metal rod. She easily made it to the first platform. Reaching out she grabbed the rope bridge. Hanging like a monkey she thought of her next move. Without a harness she was not limited to the simple rope bridges and simple zip lines.
A grin spread through Jade's face as she realized the freedom she had. So she swung from rope bridge to rope bridge on the outside. She reached the top and shimmied to a pole. As she contemplated her next move, she heard her dad's voice.
"What are you doing?" It was all she heard.
"Climbing." She didn't mean to sound haughty. But it did. She was proud of her accomplishment and all without a harness.
"Get down here now!" Her father said it in a tone that did not allow arguing.
Jade sighed. Then she looked around. She realized she was very high up and although she was good at climbing up, climbing down was another story.
"Don't know how." She squeaked. She could see her mother give a frightened little gasp.
"Six." She said again eyes imploring him to do something.
Without hesitation he made a vertical leap to the first platform. Pulling himself up, he effortlessly scaled the mesh wall. When he reached Jade, he held out his hand. She grabbed his hand and Six pulled her to his chest. She wrapped her little arms and legs around his torso.
"Hang on." Six said. He then climbed down at a slower pace than when he climbed up.
When he reached the floor, he pried his daughter off his chest and handed her back to her mother who grabbed her in a fierce hug.
"What were you doing up there?" Holiday tried not to yell but she was furious.
"I just wanted to climb like Kenji." She said in a small voice. She knew her mother was angry. She glanced over at her father who stood emotionlessly by. Even with a lack of expression she knew her father was angry as well. "I'm sorry." She started to sniffle.
Rebecca sighed as she knelt so she was eye level with her daughter. "I'm glad you weren't hurt but you know you're going to be punished now, don't you?"
Jade nodded. By now Kenji had finished his climb and Jasmine had wandered over. They stood near-by watching her humiliation.
"Okay, tomorrow you're staying in your room when your brother and sister are at the water park. And no dessert tonight." Rebecca decided.
"Yes, mommy." She said quietly.
"Okay, let's go." Rebecca got up and lightly swatted her daughter's bottom. She ran off to her twin. Rebecca and Six watched their children walk back to their car.
"You're going to have to stay with her tomorrow." Rebecca said to her husband.
He nodded. "We're going to use that time to learn the proper way to climb."
Rebecca narrowed her eyes at Six.
"Wouldn't you rather her know how to safely climb up and down? You know she'll try that again." Six said logically.
Rebecca sighed again as she slipped her arm through his. "I knew your kids would be a handful."
"They're my kids when they are well-behaved and quiet. They're your kids when the police ask." Six replied.
Rebecca snorted derisively. From the corner of her eye he could see the edges of his mouth curve ever so slightly up.
"You're secretly proud of her, aren't you?" Rebecca asked.
"How many four year olds can climb up 3 stories on their own?" Six countered.
Rebecca thought about it. "She does take after you."
Six shrugged noncommittally but Rebecca could see his mouth had quirked higher.
She hugged his arm. "Just make sure she's safe."
"Of course." He agreed. "They're my kids."
Rebecca said nothing; she just smiled.
So while on vacation my 7 year old did a 3-story ropes course effortlessly. As I watched older people nervously try to navigate the rickety rope bridges, she easily breezed through it. My 11 year old also tried it. As I watched them with a kink developing in my neck, this story came to me. Hope you like it.
PS Thanks X for pointing out that I mixed Jasmine and Jade up. It's been corrected. Senior moment. Then again you know how hard it is to tell one twin from another, hehe.
