"Hi Uncle White." Rafael said as he stepped into the room in his hazard suit.

"Who's there?" A cantankerous voice asked.

"It's me Rafael." Rafael berated himself for forgetting to announce himself.

"Rafael? Rafael who? I don't know any Rafael." He said struggling to get up. "What are all these wires for?" He tried to yank them out from his arms.

"No, no, Uncle White don't do that. Otherwise they'll tie you down again." Rafael quickly came over and grabbed his hands. "These are IV needles. They are giving you antibotics for the infections you have." Rafael explained patiently pushing his hands down into the bed.

"What's going on? Where am I?" He asked with confusion.

"Uncle White, I'm Rafael. I'm Rex Salazar 's son. You were his boss. You didn't like him at first but you got use to him." Rafael answered.

"Rex? Where's that kid? Did he escape again?" His eyes narrowed.

"No, Uncle White he's an adult now." Rafael replied.

"Get Six to hunt him down. He's a menace. Can't trust an EVO. He's going to kill us all." White rambled.

"He never did. There are no more EVOs now except on Nanite Island and few idiots who take N-juice." Rafael sat down in the chair next to the bed.

"Nanites! Can't trust anyone with nanites. They can turn at any time." White continued as if Rafael never spoke.

"No Uncle White, dad took care of that already." Rafael repeated.

"Who are you?" White stared at him.

Rafael sighed. "I'm Rafael, your god child."

"What? I don't have any..." He trailed off and began snoring. Rafael settled back and waited a second. Suddenly he snorted awake. He looked around confused for a moment. Then he spotted the white hazard suit.

"Rafael is that you?"

"Yes, Uncle White." Rafael responded.

"You don't have to keep coming to see me. I don't need charity." He groused.

"I like coming to see you, Uncle." Rafael leaned in so he could hear him better.

"Bah, that's a lie. I probably didn't recognize you when you came in." White scoffed.

Rafael made a noncommittal noise.

"Don't be polite. Can't abide by polite people. Just dancing around the subject. Being blunt gets the job done." White seemed to be talking to himself now. "Tried being polite but got stabbed in the back for it. No, the only way to get things done is to tell it like it is."

"Yes, sir." Rafael answered politely.

"See right there. You're going to get eaten alive being that polite." White waved his arm.

"Sure." Rafael agreed. "But I can't really change who I am."

"Of course you can." White scoffed. "It's if you want to."

"Well, I like who I am." Rafael shrugged.

"Then it can't be helped." White sighed. "Well, what's everyone up to now?"

"Dad is running Providence now. Kenji is taking business classes so he can learn how to run the business side of things. But he hates it. I think he wants to do other things." Rafael began.

"But he's too polite to say so, am I right? Tell him he needs to tell Six he doesn't want anything to do with the family business." White interrupted.

"I think Jasmine would be better at it but she's still worried about what Uncle Six thinks." Rafael said.

White snorted. "Again too polite."

"Violeta is okay. Dad's going nuts trying to keep track of her boyfriends. He keeps dragging me out to spy. But I make sure he gets caught." Rafael said.

"Ha! Serves him right." White gave a rare chuckle. "I knew I liked you boy."

"Uncle Caesar has almost reprogrammed the nanites so that they work the way they were suppose to." Rafael went on. "Auntie Becca kept him on track."

"She always was a bleeding heart. That makes her gullible." White commented. "Now Six, Six was always a cynic. I guess it proves opposites attract."

"I don't know about that." Rafael shrugged. "But that might explain mom and dad."

"Bah, Rex is a romantic. Always seeing the good in people." White muttered.

"Um, I think that's a good thing, Uncle White." Rafael said. He was quiet for a minute before talking. "He didn't say anything good about Van Kleiss." He pointed out.

"There was nothing good about him!" White declared with fervor. "Maybe at one point in his life but he was nothing more than a bitter, sadistic, manipulative, son-of-a…" He trailed off. Leaning against the bed, he took a deep breath.

"You okay, Uncle White?" Rafael got up alarmed. "Do you want me to get Auntie Becca?"

White waved his hand. "No, no. I'm fine. Just everything takes too much energy." He coughed. He pointed to the glass on the table. Rafael grabbed the glass and brought it to White's lips. White guiding Rafael's hand, took a sip. He relaxed.

"You should get some rest, Uncle White." Rafael said.

"Maybe, soon. I'm not going to be around much longer." White said.

"That's not true." Rafael protested. "You've still got a lot of time left."

White shook his head. "I have to tell you something but I can't remember. It'll come to me. It was something important." He cursed. "This brain of mine is useless."

"No, it's not. You've still got lots of stories." Rafael told him.

"Stories! I'm confusing things, people, places, things. I can't remember if it's something that happened to me or someone else. Sometimes things are like a dream and I don't know if it's real or something I imagined." White kept talking.

Rafael sat and listened until White's voice dropped low. He kept listening until his mutterings became snores. He stayed until his snores became even. Even then he stayed until he was sure he was not going to wake up. Getting up, he patted White's wrinkled hand before walking out.

Turning around he whispered, "Good night, Uncle White."

Walking into the house, Violeta looked up from her reading.

"Hey, you're back. How's he doing?" She asked.

"Same as always. He keeps telling me there's something important and then forgetting what it was." He sighed plopping into the arm chair.

"I don't know why you keep going to see him." Violeta said. "From dad's stories about him, he was never a nice guy."

"It's not about him being nice." Rafael said. "But dad saw something in him that he was willing to save even when he was a jerk. I think… I think that's why I go back."

"Hmph, I think you go back because you're a nice guy." She smiled at him.

"Oh, that reminds me. Dad's dragging me out tonight to see how you're doing." Rafael said.

"We're going to the New Trendbender's concert. Can you get him off my tail… say before Burger Barn?" Violeta asked.

"Will do." He got up. "Let me go get my supplies."

"Thanks, hermano." She went back to her book.

"You're welcome." Rafael bounded up the stairs.

Strange story, for my strange moods. This is sort of a prequel for my Season 8. I don't know what you think about White Knight but I think as someone's life nears the end, they become introspective and I think Rafael is the more sensitive and introspective of all the next generation kids. Hope you enjoy.
